I’m calling bullshit on our Echo Chamber, which accuses the complicit and confused Dem leadership of, in the words of Aravosis, "sitting back and scratching their heads wondering why the country isn’t
simply running into our arms while they sit back and do nothing to earn the country’s respect and loyalty," while it does nothing substantive to get the attention of those head-scratchers. They won’t, to coin a phrase, simply run into our arms.
Atrios linked to John’s post. Kos can’t be far behind. Everyone likes the idea of throwin’ the bums out. So do I. I also like the idea of not installing yet another bum at the insistance of the head-scratchers, who so far have only proven to us that they know how to lose, accommodate, yield and lose again.
I’ll say it again: the candidacies of Chuck Pennacchio (my guy) and Alan Sandals in the PA senate race provide our Echo Chamber a perfect cause with which to make our case clear: No more Me-Too Dems. And yet there is silence from our big guns. I don’t know what they’re waiting for. I don’t know what their strategy is. I don’t know why they think that anti-choice, pro-war, corporate Casey is an okay option for the most important congressional race in the country in a state that is wildly moderate.
I used to think that a Casey candidacy was telling women that the Democratic party doesn’t need them to win. Now it’s clear to me that that message of "thanks but no thanks" is extended to every Dem who sees him/herself to the left of Eisenhower.
I’m sick and tired of hearing our Echo Chamber make big bold statements about the change that needs to happen in the party and then sit idly by while the right-wing status quo is more deeply entrenched. So spare me the outrage until there’s some action to support it.
sounds like a plan to me..We had that discussion yesterday here. Wished you were here. Your imput would have been valued too. I am a left leaning independent. maybe more so than some democrats. Thanks for your imput, tho..charge!!!!!! hugs
I’ve been supporting Chuck all along.
We know, Boo, and we love you for it. π
Thank you π
Too bad so many progressives don’t know about the differences between the Big Orange and the Frog Pond.
I love those guys and Georgia10’s peptalk today was awesome, but we have different visions for the party. I want to take it over from the people that run it. They are more focused on getting the people who run it to change their strategies.
Maybe that is not quite fair, but I can’t see how anyone can support Bob Casey and be so outraged about Alito at the same time. And that goes for Chuck Schumer too. I want a party that will call this President a criminal and not back down when they yell WAR!
I want a party that will take the case for Roe to the American people and ask them forthrightly “Do you want Roe to remain the law of the land? No? Then support us when we filibuster Alito.”
If you cannot do that, then I want to tear up the current leadership and start over with non-corporate financed small donors and activists.
By 2008 I want progressive candidates to run all over the country in the primaries, and I want them funded entirely with citizen money.
Take the argument right to the people.
now that one I can get behind 200%!
Now that’s a helluva comment and you usually have great ones to choose from. I can understand traditionalism even if I don’t agree with it. Do you think maybe that element might be part of what holds progressive Democrats from really striking out? Could it also be the top dogs own skeletons in the closets? Has anything ever been mentioned in the way of a sort of party-wide amnesty for those in office who come clean for a new start? I’m not talking about confessing to crimes but confessing to moral crimes of betraying ideology.
to death.
and Salazar was the best that I could do because we were so afraid of the mighty Coors!
Yeah. π But he has been awesome beating up Focus on the Family, though.
We are stationed in Alabama so a lot of that news doesn’t reach me. I am born and half raised in Colorado Springs and I love nothing better than getting to witness Focus on the Family getting what they have coming to them. Thank you for the update! Wish I would have checked back sooner. Makes me feel good because I made damn sure to get my ballot sent to me and sent back properly and my family pulled like hell for him.
If you cannot do that, then I want to tear up the current leadership and start over with non-corporate financed small donors and activists.
Booman hits the nail on the head. This is about money. But those non-corporate small donors can’t afford much. And why would any sitting member of congress cut off his money supply and watch it pour into someone else’s pockets?
We need to stop the big money from soaking the system and we need free tv time for all candidates. It couldn’t be easier to do, but the powers that be will make it difficult and confusing and we’ll all sit down and shut up about it until we get fed up enough to say something again.
In the meantime, now is the time for all good bloggers to come to the aid of their country and stop allowing the PA senate primary to be shut down.
In order to do that,we would have to pass campaign finance reform and cut off K Street at the knees. Realistically,I don’t see that happening, unless the netroots get a lot wider and stronger. Dean made a start at it- it needs to spread–just like all of our lefty blogs-I may not live to see it- but some of your children may- so keep up the fight.
Like this?
Living in Pelosi country, I actually get to vote for some people that I like. DiFi, however, is making me wish for a primary this year. Oy. Was she asleep at the damn hearings? Unfortunately, she’s one of the most popular CA politicians, and ain’t goin’ nowhere. At least she’ll vote the right way on Burkalito.
