Joan and Melissa are on TV Guide channel meeting, greeting, and commenting. Ohhh … and WHO are YOU wearing tonight? (I’m wearing the nightie my Aunt Helen sent me — because I haven’t gotten dressed all day! Ha!)
Take the poll for Best Movie … there are some very political films at the top! “Good Night and Good Luck” “The Constant Gardener” … and I think George Clooney is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in “Syriana” (which I never got to see) … the show is on NBC. (For a full list of nominees, check the Golden Globes Web site.)
Slacker. 🙂
Unfortunately I haven’t seen any of the movies that are up for awards. These days most of the movies we see are things we can take our 8-year-old granddaughter to.
I was going to post some nasty comments about the MPAA, but I decided I don’t like it when people hijack my diaries, so I wouldn’t piddle in your petunia patch. Even if you are doing more or less what I wish I could be doing right about now (well, except for the part about Aunt Helen’s nightie, anyway).
Thank god my mother was willing to take Darcy to those films … I couldn’t bear them. I’d take her to awful things like “Die Hard” — when she was FIVE! 🙂
No wonder when she was in third grade, she kept begging me to take her to see “Hoffa.”
I’m watching E! coverage. They have Izaak Mizrahi doing the interviews and he is awful! But the split shots of people walking the red carpet are good.
Did you see Gwyneth Paltrow’s dress? I understand she’s preggers and all, but it looks like someone sewed a bunch of hankies together.
because it’s the only one of the five I saw (and it’s definitely worth it — will be ordering the DVD if/when it’s out!).
Spouse and I going out for soup/salad tonight, but hope to be home for the awards at 8; I’m a sucker for awards shows, and the Golden Globes are the trippiest. Anyone remember when Christine Lahti was late to the stage to accept hers because she was in the bathroom? And they get fed, and drink lots of wine, so you never know what’s going to happen… 😉
[Now I don’t feel so bad about not showering yet, Susan — but better get in soon since spouse will be home in about an hour…]
I love the Globes too. It’s the only one that I can sit all the way through.
I remember the Christine Lahti incident, but what I remember most about it was Robin Williams jumping up on stage and improvising hysterically until Christine Lahti showed up.
I get the biggest kick out of this stuff — don’t ask me why.
And Darcy and I want to see if Angelina Jolie looks poofy yet.
Is she showing up tonight? I thought she and Brad were in Haiti?
Oh, she’s back from Haiti and, Susan, she’s beyond “poofy.” There’s a bunch of photos here.
She has to be more than 5 months pregnant the way she is showing. Unless they’re having multiples… How can they say with a straight face that they are expecting in the summer?
I know! I was shocked — they must have hid it for awhile.
They always try to say it’s way later than it really is to throw the press off. But you don’t just pop out like that with your first one until you’re 5 or 6 months.
Is Angelina very short? Or is Brad taller than I thought? I’ve always thought of him as a bit of a shrimp.
I’m not sure. I think Brad is average height, but I’m not positive. Actually I didn’t see them on the show tonight — did I miss them?
Speaking of Ms. Jolie, someone I know sent a diary that someone I know did about Angelina Jolie’s work for the U.N.’s Human Rights campaigns to the Countdown show, which has been rather ugly in its comments about her and never mentioned her humanitarian work or her incredible journals from Sudan.
Andy Borowitz said that Brad and Angelina’s baby has been named Sexiest Fetus Alive.
Was it the Golden Globes where Ving Rhames got an award and then gave it to Jack Lemon for being an inspiration to him as an actor?
Yup. Only something like that would happen at the Globes. I also like the Globes because they tend to get more political in a left leaning way. 🙂
I think it was! Jack Lemon looked totally embarrassed.
blue jeans, a denium shirt and muck boots. We just came in from a day in the country loading and unloading horse manure. Started a massive compost bed and finished the asparagus bed. My poor old aching body is heading for the recliner in just a few minutes.
Hmm… so what do I want to watch: the Golden Globes, the CSpan re-airing of Gore’s speech (since I missed it earlier) or Olbermann’s coverage of Gore’s speech? On rare ocassions, I wish I had TiVo.
Joan Rivers just interviewed George Clooney, and she asked him why he’s such a huge success, and he told her it’s because he has photos of a lot of people with farm animals.
George Clooney rocks.
And he looks yummy tonight.
He just won for best supporting actor in “Syriana.”
Made a few allusions to the Abramoff scandal, too.
Go, George.
Us Left Coasters got the damn tape delay to wait for…
:x! (angry with exclamation point)
just got me rooting for Clooney to take the trifecta.
What an asinine question… 😡
Until the FCC yanks it — and that’s soon — I still get the East Coast feed of NBC.
When they came and took my television stations away …
Ugh, cheesy intro song…
we are on the same wavelength
Mmmmm…George Clooney. Wonder if he’d come to our weenie roast?
Can we invite Matt Dillon too?
Turned on my TV and there was George Clooney. Yum. Sexy and smart. But what’s with the corny song? I don’t remember that before?
Adrian Brody does NOTHING for me.
What about Natalie Portman? She’s skin and bones!!??!!
aren’t they all?
But she looks concentration camp thin… really not attractive.
Not Geena Davis – now there is one good looking woman with curves!!
And she looked good in her red dress. Although I miss the days when Jeff Goldblum picked out her awards clothes — she’s worn some stunners. I wasn’t wild about the ruffles on this one.
I have to say that it really feels good to spend a few hours in mindless entertainment. This has been a rough week and the mental break is needed.
Go George!! I hope this is one of many tonight!!
He thanked Jack Abramoff! Ha! Jack … off. Ha! I love his mind (and his body’s great!)
I LOLed and had to explain to BF what George said since he’s not paying attention.
If cloning would produce more George Clooney’s for mass consumption, I think I’d set aside my moral objections for awhile.
Has there ever been a more perfect man… great looking, intelligent and funny. Someone please tell me he kicks his dog or something. I need to get on with my life.
I thought that Rachel Weisz(sp) was great in that film, but you could have fooled me that this is the same person. She looks totally different.
She was also good in “The Mummy”. 🙂
I don’t watch scary movies –total waste of money for me to try because I keep my eyes covered the whole time (and if its a rental, I run to the other room).
I don’t like scary movies either, but The Mummy was more along the lines of Indiana Jones and had more tongue-in-cheek moments than truly scary ones.
Mary, that was such a shock. She was gorgeous in that film — and is a fabulous actress — but I thought she looked downright awful tonight. Too much eye makeup + a horrible hairdo.
Vampire eyes
I love the GG’s — Sandra Oh, can’t get to the stage. Would never happen at the oscars.
Candace Bergen is aging beautifully. She’s just a class act.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that 3 Bears commercial before. It was cute. I have no idea what car it was for (although I do think it was about a car).
I’m thinking of, it’s for the Hummer H3 — cute commercial, gas-hog car…
no wonder I blocked out what it was for!
More George!
These people are much funnier at the GG because they’ve had a few drinks.
Hugh Laurie has a lovely accent, even though I don’t watch his show.
And there was just a quick shot of Pierce Brosnan. Excuse me while I wipe the drool from my lips…
He’ll always be Remington Steele to me.
and rumor has it in some of my movie mags that there is talk of making a Remington Steele movie..
Is Matt Dillon that short or is Queen just really tall?
Queen Latifah is 5’10”, so she’s not short and she’s probably wearing heels, so I’d say Matt Dillon is probably average.
Oh good. I can lust after short actors — I LOVE Ed Harris. But I’ve always imagined Matt as being at least my height (I’m 5’8″)
I had a crush on Michael J. Fox and he’s really short. He’s only 5’4″.
I give Reese and Ryan 6 months.
Really? They’ve been together for a while and she’s been pretty open about them going to counceling.
She didn’t seem at all pleased with his body tackle and he was trying too hard to be supportive and after she said the nice thing about him he looked disappointed — like “is that all there is?”
It could have been worse – it could have been like Sarah Jessica Parker completely forgetting to mention Matthew Broderick the first time she won for Sex in the City.
I hope they stay together – not for any idealistic reasons. They just both seem like nice enough people.
I like them both too. Just observing! Hope I’m wrong!
Emma Thompson looks fantastic!!
I’ve loved Emma ever since she said she wasn’t going to starve herself for Hollywood.
If I were an actress, she is what I would aspire to be. She can do no wrong in my eyes and I’ll even forgive her for “Junior”. 😉
That was a lovely speech. I like it when people who’ve never even had a leading role after so many years are finally recognized.
Target and Loreal must have paid big $$$ for all the commercial time they are getting.
Colin Firth — yummy. And the REAL Mr. D’arcy. Has he ever been in anything with Emma Thompson?
They were both in “Love Actually” but I don’t think they had any scenes together. According to IMDB, they are both in Nanny McPhee which has just been released.
The man is fine. Yeah, he is the real Fitzwilliam Darcy. And the real Mark Darcy, too.
Liked him in “The Girl (with? in?) the Pearl Earring” too. Those burning eyes. Lord.
As long as his face doesn’t fall apart…he’s mine.
I hope crash wins
Oh well, the year of the gay cowboys.
Harrison Ford is looking old. And trying very hard to look hip with his goatee. I lost respect for him when he started dating Calista Flockhart.
same thing I was thinking — about the goatee and about Calista.
And he was so hot in Star wars…and don’t get me started on the Calista Flockhart thing…
The new Star Wars could have used a Han Solo character.
Calista = Mid-life crisis
He should have been beyond a mid-life crisis since he;s older than mid-life.
Calista = Proof that the sports car is a better idea
with the man. She hasn’t done much since the show folded. Or been seen much.
Rumor had it he was sneaking into Mexico for some heavy drinking. Calista was getting a little ticked at that.
He’s working in the “Indiana Jones” picture these days.
I think Matthew was feeling Jessica up back stage — look at HER body language.
oops, sarah Jessica
I think I’ll pack my computer up for the night and watch the rest from bed.
It’s been a pleasure blogging the Globes with you all. Shall we do this again for the Oscars?
sounds like a plan

Is this the last season for Will &
Grace?
