My personal call for a filibuster against Sam Alito

I listened to Al Gore’s speech this morning, and I’ve called both of my Senator’s Seattle offices asking them to stop this nomination by any means necessary.  This means a filibuster.  Period.

I’m not in the Senate.  In Washington State, only two people are in the Senate; Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell.  For the citizens of our state, these are the two people who we can depend on to defend the Constitution against the people who would dismantle it.

The “War on Terror” is a codename for a war against our Constitutional Rights.
Yes, there are terrorists out there who hate and want to kill Americans.  Those people who have planned and executed attacks are criminals, and they need to be captured and brought to justice, or killed.  But if someone hates you, you should be doing what you can do to stop the hate first, while being ready to deal with the people who won’t listen to reason.  But people who think that we can afford to give up our rights for security deserve neither.

Justice Alito refused to answer the questions we wanted answered.  He cares only for large corporations and the rich.  He may not be a bigot on race, but he is a champion of class warfare, and he’s not on the side of the American People.

I’ve called your offices.  And I’m not alone.  The Senate Democratic Leadership are making noises that a filibuster is not worth it.  They’re wrong.  And you should be taking your orders from the Constitution and the people that the Constitution is designed to support, not cowards looking for political gain later while we lose our country today.  Even if it fails, you will have succeeded.  If we lose the filibuster entirely, then the Republicans won’t be able to use it when we take back Congress and the White House and replace their nominees with people who will actually do their job.

Stand up and stop this nomination.  By any means at your disposal.  It’s your duty as Senators.  It’s your duty as Americans.
