So what are you drinking tonight?
Well, if it’s on boran2, line ’em up.
but in the Lounge I’ll choose between
or
Oh and nice cactus you got there but I prefer my guys not to be pricks.
Yeah, he is kinda prickish, isn’t he? 🙂
Black Cherry Vanilla…mmmm, yummy! I usually can’t stand diet Coke or equivalents because of the aftertaste, but this one I absolutely love! 🙂
Got the new printer hooked up…so I feel a sense of accomplishment for the day. 🙂 Now I can work on my shopping list and menu for next week, knowing I can actually print it out to post on the fridge — my goal is to plan homecooked dinners at least 4-5 nights a week and stick to the plan. Just 4 Today…I will stick to my planned dinner menu…of course we’re just having frozen dinners (Healthy Choice) tonight so that’s easy, but tomorrow we’re going grocery shopping so I need to do some planning.
Got the frog baker the other day, but the spouse put it away somewhere and I need to find it; instructions said to soak it in boiling water before first use so I want to get it ready just in case I use it next week… 🙂
Looking forward to actually getting cleaning done this weekend, if I can get the spouse to cooperate at least…
I told someone once that Wastin’ away again in Margaritaville was my theme song.
She said she’d never met anyone before who had a theme song.
Due to the festivities of last night, tonight, all my drinking will be here at the FBC lounge, straight shots of mescal. Brace yourselves…
People who insist on setting up last minute conference calls at 4:00 in the afternoon on a Friday should be … well, what I’m thinking wouldn’t be at all pleasant for them.
It interferes with happy hour.
So, what shall we drink to? Today’s big dip in the stock market?
People who set up 4:00 pm Friday conference calls should be cactusized.
Let’s drink to re-charging over the weekend and hopefully shaking off the gloom…I even feel down this week, and that doesn’t happen too often.
OK, I’ll drink to that.
Put some 4’s in the jukebox, we need some music — where’s a random playlist? (I’m at work so I can’t do one.)
You want it? You got it!:
Light My Fire — The Doors
“Four Seasons” Concerto, Spring [1st Movement:Allegro] — Janine Jansen & Ensemble
Fooled Around and Fell in Love — Elvin Bishop
Cherry Tree Carol — Peter, Paul & Mary
Armistice Day — Paul Simon
I Couldn’t Live Without Your Love — Petula Clark
Cannonball Run Theme — Chuck Mangione
Summer — War
“Four Seasons” Concerto, Winter [3rd Movement:Allegro] — Janine Jansen & Ensemble
Words — Bee Gees
Wow, great lineup this week… 🙂
BTW, a note on the Janine Jansen “Four Seasons” — instead of a full string orchestra like many performances, or even a small string ensemble, this was done with just one instrument per part (one first violin, one second, one viola, etc.). Very minimalist, but quite effective IMNSHO. (I had a crush on a cellist in college, so have a soft spot for good strings…)
That’s the third list tonight with the Doors on it.
I like your list — I’ve heard of everybody on it, except for the woman doing the Vivaldi.
I hope I’m not too late to the party. Here are 10 that I slid on ice to tonight.
Walk Out The Front Door – Bonnie Raitt
Chasin’ The Wind – Charlie Parker
Blood Makes Noise – Suzanne Vega
Quilombo, o El Dorado Negro – Gilberto Gil
Cry To Me – Professor Longhair
Mood Indigo – Jimmy Smith
Wrapped In The Arms Of Another – Susan Tedeschi
E De Dar Agua Na Boca – Nando Cordel & Amelinha
The Way My Baby Walks – The Blues Project
Soul Of A Man – Susan Tedeschi
jf
I like your skating music!
may be the only one you got in web-search-land…their stock has plummeted over this…
buy low…sell high…think about it
Peace
It is an interesting thought — for all people who value privacy to invest in a little Google stock on Monday.
I actually might just do that…
can’t buy much, but I’ve already left a message for the agent of my SEP/IRA to do just that, 1st thing Monday.
I think their corp. motto is: Don’t Be Evil
Gotta like that
Peace
as they say, “money speaks”, lets shout!
Need to stop at the liquor store on the way home (in this county, you can only buy hard liquor at a state-run store — next county down, there’s a liquor store on every corner, go figure.). I’m out of almost everything (or at least everything I keep in stock….), even beer…
Can’t have that on a weekend!
Full story here.
Threads – Carrie Newcomer
Peggy Sue – Buddy Holly
Cest La Fin – Mediaeval Baebes
You’re The Two = The Roches
Schooldays – Kate & Anna McGarrigle

Ooh, I loaded up a half-dozen more cds today…I’ll be right back!
wow, ask and I receive. And it includes Buddy Holly. And Bob Marley. And Shirley Horn. It’s an omen. Gonna be a good weekend.
Who are (is) mediaeval Baebes?
Allmusic Guide will tell you all about them.
I can’t begin to describe what they sound like but they have gorgeous voices and harmony.
You can hear some samples at Amazon.
Bella – Santana
In The House of Stone and Light – Martin Page
Couldn’t Get It Right – Climax Blues Band
I’m Ready/The Promise – Tracy Chapman
You Can’t Bring Me Down – Suicidal Tendencies
I Will Not Go Quietly – Don Henley
What Have You Done For Me Lately? – Janet Jackson
No One In The World – Anita Baker
Sexy MF – Prince
Used Ta Be My Girl – The O’Jays
This is the Hit-n-Run Edition, since my roommate got back in from out of town a little while ago, so I’m off to hang out with her. Happy weekend, everybody!
Climax Blues Band has always been one of my favorite group names because I am soooo predictable.
This is a shocking list — I recognize everyone on it but one (Suicidal Tendencies).
Freud would have a field day with the Tribbers…:{)
Peace
Devil’s Harvest – Deep Banana Blackout
Rain Come Down – eastmountainsouth
It Must Have Been the Doses – Grateful Dead
Stay Home dialogue- Shrek Soundtrack
Stumptown – Nickel Creek
Something’s Wrong – Hartford Dillard Hartford
Cupid – Jack Johnson
You Belong to Me – Jason Wade (Shrek soundtrack)
Gotta Get Over Greta – The Nields
Where I Go – Natalie Merchant
And after my success with Indy, I fail at your list where I know 5 (assuming that Dillard Hartford Dillard are the Dillard Brothers and John Hartford).
You’re rightt about the Dillards and Hartford…is my musical taste that um, obscure?
I have no idea because my current musical knowledge is so pathetic and my taste run mostly to blues, jazz, folk, and classical.
I heard the Dillards at the York Cafe, Denver, circa ’71-’72. Doug was playing his harmonica from completely inside his mouth, puffing out his cheeks on both sides, hilarious, ’twas great music, and a great evening.
Lucky you! I’ve only ever heard John Hartford.
Glitter Grass from the Nashwood Hollyville Strings and Permanent Wave are some of my favorites for long drives…
Santana, Climax Blues Band, Don Henley, Janey Jackson, Anita Baker, not to mention the O’Jays …. I feel like I’ve entered an alternate universe. Usually I haven’t heard of anyone on your playlists.
Have a great weekend. Remind me to report on my publishing conversation this week with my editor friend.
Straight from the iTunes Party Shuffle:
George Murphy – Tom Lehrer
The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring – Gilbert & Sullivan (The Mikado)
Low Cotton – Josh White
Jumpin’ with Symphony Sid – Joe Jackson
Wild Honey Pie – The Beatles
Crossing – Taj Mahal
La Tentacion – The Iguanas
Waltz #3 in D-flat – Chopin
100% Pure Fool – The Derailers
It Ain’t the Cactus, It’s the Motion – Maria Muldaur
OK, I rigged the last one, but the rest were truly random…
and look what she’s learned…
how to suspend the little magic wand in mid air.
Amazing what one can do with a little book learning.
Correction… that’s the 6th Harry Potter
Spare some change?
Peace
Someone give the guy a fiver
Peace
Aneurysm – Nirvana
Sell My Soul – Midnight Oil
Charlotte Sometimes – The Cure
Break on Through – The Doors
Cherokee Chief – Jerry Harrison
Helpless – Neil Young
Color Line – Asian Dub Foundation
Slug Dub – The Orb
586 – New Order
Antistar – Massive Attack
Margaritas; yes, please!
See you later – heading home from cubicle prison.
Looks like the Doors are the band of the night. Which reminds me that I have no Doors in MP3 format.
When I was in college I had 5 roommates. One of them LOVED Neil Young and one of the HATED Neil Young. The other four of us were indifferent. To this day I can’t see Neil Young on a playlist without immediately assuming that an argument is going to break out.
I only know of two of the songs listed. Not only is he an international man of mystery, but he has an uncanny knowledge of contemporary music.
Hi,
Actually, I would only call 2 of them contemporary (as in released in this century); ADF and Massive Attack.
My guess is that you recognize The Doors and Neil Young.
Jerry Harrison was in Talking Heads.
Did you see my response on your Drinking Liberally comment the other day (it was late)?
the info about Drinking Liberally and might show up some day. Hoboken is not too far from me.
They just busted a terrorist cell. They call themselves ELF. Help me, Help……I can’t feel safe, we can’t feel safe and secure in America! They just said that and they just used ElF and Osama in the same sentence! Help! Fuckin Help! It took them four years but they got that ELF cell, how many other horrible terrorists cells are there out there on my own soil? OMG, this is just horrible and here we were whining about them looking up our asses everyday and all they were trying to do was save our lives. I just feel horrible. WHAT A MOTHAFUCKIN CHARADE!
I’m sure we’ll be hearing shortly about how animal libertation has known ties to Al-Qaeda.
Confused? Well, it all makes complete sense if you just insert the word “communist” for “terrorist” and “communism” instead of “terrorism.”
A few decades ago, the same authorities claimed that all the anti-Vietnam-War groups were infiltrated with communists… Some things never change.
but no need to link it to terrorism…ooops, sorry, wrong ELF…
(just trying to insert some levity into the room…)
the morning cafe so it drops off the list…Thanks!
Oddly enough, the lyric “Searching for my lost shaker of salt” was going through my head this morning — I even added aloud “Salt! Salt! Salt!” while in the shower.
But no margaritas for me this evening, alas; I have this awful (ahem) allergy to tequila, which tends to manifest itself the following morning with throbbing headaches, nausea (occasionally to the point of vomiting), cottonmouth, and general all-body crapitude.
This round’s on me, regardless what poison you choose.
What’ve you been up to these days?
Actually, at this very moment I’m enjoying one of these:
And I do have enough to share.
But I am shocked, SHOCKED to find I’ve lost TU status in my absence. Me! Of all people! Who would know what happened in the year of their UID if it weren’t for me? <sigh> Looks like I’m going to have to bus Café tables for a couple days to get back into the community’s good graces. Shall I clear that for you, ma’am?
You have been gone awhile! Here’s a dishpan, get to work… 🙂
But my shift ends when BSG comes on (10pm EST).
really say that?
“When I get a little money I buy books; and if any is left I buy food and clothes. – Erasmus”
Yep he did, somewhere in his voluminous correspondence, but I can’t track down a specific reference at the moment. Dunno how serious he was — he did subsist solely on his living as a writer, but then again he was pretty successful at it, and I’m sure was never in danger of starving amid his books!
Gotta go get some of that WORK
antidote…just wanted to let you know there’s nefarius folks about
Take all necessary precautions. Another Pubic Service Announcement from your ever vigilant friends at the mighty Boo-Trib.
Enjoy…I will.
Later
Peace
Everyone is soo quiet tonight. Has anybody seen the new Queen Latifah movie yet? I’m thinking of heading out to see it with my sister. We wanted something light.
online after this long and grueling 10 days with tales of computer fritzes, delays in everything, and more, much more but for right now I just wanted to stop in and say hi, it’s been killing me not to be able to get online as you can probably imagine…had to do a complete restore to my computer, so now I have to go and acquire all my links and etc. so I have a busy night ahead, but gosh it is goooood to be back..
Hope everyone is fine and the earth didn’t end while I was off..
Oh, Diane — I feel for you. My computer crashed 3 times between Thanksgiving and last week. I’ve finally got my “new” one going and I’m still confused.
(have you been to Eat 4 Today yet?)
Heading for the couch or hanging around the cafe?
I don’t know — I’d love a cocktail, but the couch sure looks comfy.
Normally, I’d tell you to hang in the cafe but I’m heading over to couch to read for awhile and probaby fall asleep.
I’ll see you tomorrow in your cafe.
Watcha readin?
How’d you know I’d come back?
The Pagoda in the Garden by Wendy Lesser. It’s called a ‘novel in three parts’ but I’d call it three thematically connected novellas.
You are a very ambitious reader considering this is a Friday night! I could hardly read the description.
that I’m over hear talking to you and not on the couch reading.
Yes, I guess that’s a point.
I’ve been poking around trying to see if anyone has written anything about Sundance today. Weirdly, not only does my brother-in-law have a film showing today (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints), but so does a guy who used to work in our library (First Date — supposedly cast completely with library patrons.
I can read a few pages and then come over to the cafe for a few minutes. Doesn’t work too badly.
You’re just a magnet for celebrities — you b-i-l and the ex-library employee and of course the Big Secret™ famous author.
can’t be put off any longer.
couch & cafe!
So you’ve taken you ‘puter to nap with you?
it’s stretching out my back that’s important. And this way I can watch mister play video games and talk to you at the same time. Although since I’m typing one-handed, it’s slow.
Sounds very comfy. But I see where going to get a little cramped over here on the right. If you don’t fall asleep before you answer me, move back over to the left margin. I’ll find you.
I’m watching Cowboy U on tv
Found you!
What, asks the TV innocent, is Cowbody U?
It’s a reality show where people want to be cowboys. They really want to be cowboys.
I thought ELF got you.
Hi Diane. I thought you were just having a nightmare move, I didn’t realize your computer died on you too.
My computer went into a freeze up, got a replacement computer and it had modem and ethernet problems, did a complete restore on it and still didn’t work, so I did complete restore on mine and then it worked…and don’t even ask me about the telephone company’s part in this, finally got phone service and they said oh dsl next week, I begged and got it today, 3 days after phone was installed…truely I didn’t think I could go another day.
Hi Katie and Tracy and Cabin girl, btw and I missed you all and the site and the internet and everything….
I’m just glad to see you. It sounds like you’ve got a permanent connection?
Hope you managed to find all the important stuff in the boxes…
Spouse had a weird event on the computer; he couldn’t open any of the programs! Everything in the Dock (remember, we’re Mac users) turned into a question mark. To his credit, he didn’t come in and wake me up to ask me what was wrong — he just mentioned it when heading out the door for work. So, I ran “Repair Disk Permissions” and somehow a ton of permissions had gotten corrupted; all appears to be well with his account now. Good thing we’re both not technically challenged…
Is anybody still standing up?
Margarita sounds great, but it’s probably wine tonight (not too bad, either). Strange day. Don’t know where to begin.
Yeah, but you still have daylight now…What was so strange about today?
Couldn’t really dig into anything today because I was on standby for jury duty — ended up not having to go, but I couldn’t really settle in. Also ended up watching the market slide from the open to the close, a pattern that’s a lot more unusual than you might think. But I did get some random tasks done this afternoon, so the day wasn’t a total loss. Ready to get out of here now, though.
New cafe here
