Wow, is it morning already? Sorry to open up so late; hope no one was freezing their little noses off waiting for some hot coffee.
Anybody that stood outside when there was a perfectly nice overnight cafe to visit deserves that red nose.
Love the coffee cups graphic.
How did you apt go this morning?
It was just my regular peridotnist get the plaque removed appointment. Though I think I really prefer the good old days when they just used the metal pick to the water/pick power tools — swallowing whatever water the suction doesn’t get always makes me somewhat queasy.
Hey it’s morning…again. I found out what ‘delayed release’ means as it applies to medicine. Yowza!
I may be a lousy host today.
Did it just make you sleepy or are you feeling it in other ways. I hope just the sleepy because that could ease up once you adjust to it.
Dizzy, nauseous, headache, chills, muscle aches, muscle weakness, flashing lights. It’s fun.
Sounds like you’re watching a State of the Union address!!!
Take care (((SIN))))
If bubbe was still around she probably would have told me not to say something too soon. Have you talked to the doctor yet?
I have thoughts/ideas on this, but I’m on my way out to school now…can I email you later?
Please please do!
I was just napping on this mattress out front until you opened…
Hey, that looks comfy. Looks like you’ll need a delousing as well as some coffee.
Good morning all,
Got a bit homesick seeing this image this weekend:
Caption: “Oslo residents, along with those over most of southern Norway, woke up to a veritable winter wonderland on Saturday. Several days of heavy snowfall wreaked havoc with traffic and power supplies, but created a paradise for skiers. This photo was snapped not far from the popular Frognerseteren tram stop, about a half-hour from downtown.”
I ‘stole’ it from this series in Aftenposten.
If you follow the link, just click on the images to see the whole series, which is taken in the hills just outside Oslo. Apparently, my compatriots got a couple of feet of snow last week.
That’s spectacular! Makes me want to start a snowball fight.
My reaction too. Get in the right clothes and gear, then out for fun in 2 feet + of fresh snow.
Alas, none here in NY.
You can see more in the link I gave, but look above the pictures for link to the next (the Norwegian version only required a click on the picture to continue).
We got a lot of snow this past w/e too in Ottawa. It’s still coating all the trees branches today. Winter really is beautiful when it looks this way. I love the photo you’ve posted.
Heavy snowfall on Saturday (1.21.2006) — the thick kind that clings to every tree branch. This is the colour of the garden now (vs summer colour): white, some brown, and blue when the sun comes out. (view large)
That’s great – and I guess you took it!
Your winter is probably similar to what I am used to from southern Norway. I really miss immediate access to winter terrain. Even if we get good snow here, it’s a project to get to hills or forests, and when there, expect to be in a crowd…
Though I don’t want to ever see as much snow as there is in ask’s picture.
I love wet snows that cling to everything.
Jan. 18 snowfall
Don’t you just love how quiet everything gets when it snows like this? It’s like a thick down comforter thrown over everything.
Yes, it’s lovely — even the birds are quiet and the usual sound of the breeze in the branches is tamped down. What I likd about this snow was that because the creeks weren’t frozen, the quiet of the woods accentuated the sound of the water flowing over the the small rock ledges in the creeks, which is a sound I just love.
“Yes, it’s lovely — even the birds are quiet and the usual sound of the breeze in the branches is tamped down.”
When I first saw this image a bit earlier, my thought was; tranquility.
I feel that way in the woods almost all of the time but there is something special about the first few hours right after a snowfall.
we keep this posting of cold weather photos up and we’re going to cause our SoCal friends to go into hibernation.
It gave me time to read MaryScott’s great diary over at Dk.
Morning, SN! Thanks for the espresso.
I’ll have to hop on over and read that diary. When my eyes adjust to the light, that is.
Good news, I can upload pics from camera now, bad news we are having a big windstorm here and this is one of the victems, 3 trees are over, the sattelite dish blew off the roof and is damaged.
Other than that, good morning all, hope you day is starting out better.
Hi Laura…
Good grief! Sorry for the damage, but glad you didn’t get blown away, Diane.
Not blown away, yet, but I am rocking and rolling in this 5th wheel, and so it was all night long. This wind is supposed to continue until Tues. so we shall see if I get blown away or not…wind is going to be hot and dry as the day gets going, our lovely Santana Winds.
Yikes!! Glad you’re okay, Diane. I love the look of your new place….even blown over. I’ll pop over to the Village later. Gotta go to work now.
turned upside down. You must have very large hands, that’s an unusually thick handle for an umbrella. but the green fringe is an unexpected and whimsical touch.
People with good eyesight miss so much.
So glad you’re safe! Stay that way!! π
It could happen to YOU!
We can have winter weather here too. Not so far this year though. This is Washington State’s famous Deception Pass Bridge a few winters ago.
But today we have fogging of parts.
I love the framing of the bridge shot. If you have a larger version of it online, I’d love a link — I’d love to see the detail of the bridgeworks backed by the trees.
It’s a print photo we took several years ago and it’s in some boxes somewhere in the basement, along with essentially all our life history in Ohio which I’d love to be able to share in excerpts. We have a web page for our friends & family we made up at the time, which is where that digital copy came from.
(I think it is click-to-enlarge though.)
But Puget4 has the fever for offloading, and we’re slowly burrowing down to bedrock.
that’s all there is.
I still, to this day and at my age, still have nightmares about Decption Pass Bridge. Mostly they are dreams where I have to drive over it. The waters below tug at my wheels and my being.
When I was about 2ish my mom was driving late at night with me in the back seat and we came across a car that was halfway off the bridge. The lady was dead. All I remember is seeing part of the car from the red tail lights of our car. But as you know there are so many jumpers from that particular bridge. Probably as many as Golden Gate Bridge here in… (oops I’m no longer there LOL) down there in Calif.
But still she’s so beautiful. I love the photos you share. Spent alot of time in Oak Harbor and later on in Coupevill. I used to swim at least 3 times a week in Penn Cove off of Long Point. swam with tennyshoes on though π
Cataract Falls
I had a great 8 mile hike on Sunday on Mt. Tamalpais. We didn’t make it to Cataract Falls because the road was closed and we didn’t want to do a 14 mile hike to see them. (photo above) We did find some little falls along the way…really nice! I’ll have photos later this week….
We’ll use an alternate route to the Falls that we’ll take on the next sunny Sunday.
Have a great next few days….will drop in if I can.
Alohaleezy – can you email the info on San Diego in March? I don’t want to miss the info and I’m pretty much off line.
Dali’s pet panda, clad only in assymetrical boxing gloves, is challenged for the title bout by a stick.
You owe me a monitor cleaning….
Read that – then spewed coffee! Too early on the left coast for good jokes!
The scary thing about this interpretation is that I can see it too…..with my glasses on!!
SallyCat,
Can you take me on that hike to Cataract Falls if I ever make it home again? Why did I ever leave?
Anytime KB – choice though..
The alternate route is only 3+ miles round trip…or the long trip?
The falls run in the winter after heavy rains…but the hike is gorgeous anytime along the edge of Bon Tempe Resevoir in the watershed.
The long hike — Who knows how long before I get back again (if I make it out at all) and I’ve never done that hike.
Sunday Morning – about 10am – Bon Tempe Resevoir
Here you go with the first of several…spouse downloaded this for me just so I could post for you guys!
That’s looks so pleasant and peaceful. Lovely reflection.
Interesting diaries over at your place, kb–your diary about guided imagery and Ductape’s about laughter.
Thanks — I liked your experience. I almost asked for the guys phone number.
Sounds like a great hike and a very nice respite from the cares of the world (and blogging).
And, of couse, I’m looking forward to the pictures.
Wouldn’t mind hearing the route for the shorter hike — might talk spouse into heading to Mount Tam in April during his next vacation. (We might be in hiking shape by then if we start working out now — need to get in shape for the Alaska trip…)
A bit under the weather today — got the sniffles — so just going to hang local and take things easy. Might try tackling changing the bed on my own again, if I can get the energy…
Hope everyone has a great day… π
make your bed?? Horrors!!! If I make my bed, then I’ll have a place to fold the laundry and then I’ll have to actually fold the laundry and then I’ll have to put them away and then I’ll see that since the piles of laundry are off the floor that the carpet needs vacuuming and..
and
and
and
and I hope you feel better (((Cali))))
I hate copy machines today. I really do.
In other news: last night I was telling my housemates about a blog post I’d read, something about a blogger who had been sending emails to conservative bloggers asking them if they’d still support the president if he were to kill a kitten with a hammer.
Suddenly I heard a wail from their four year old, who was in the bathroom, but had overheard me. “Oh, NO! the poor kitty!”
I hastened to explain that it was a joke. But I don’t think she believed me. We are waiting on pins and needles to find out if she will tell her nursery school class that George Bush kills kittens.
LOL – good luck π
I was called by my son’s school because while on the bus he’d flip off Bush/Cheney signs. His bus buddy, he’s autistic, just about died from holding in the laughter.
They were all, I wonder where Wesley learned that trick.
π
Whenever we go by a car with a “W” type sticker on it – he grumbles his annoyance.
Kids are great. When I was home for holidays, my now-college-aged twin cousins were telling a story about a conversation they had with a teacher shortly after our uncle – their mom’s brother – had moved in with them and their mom. The teacher asked the girls if their mom and their uncle got along. They said, “Oh yes, they have sex together!”
Their mother found out and was horrified. It turned out the girls thought that kissing (on the cheek!) was the same thing as sex. She pre-emptively called the teacher on that one and the teacher assured her that yes, the girls had explained to her what sex was in addition to the juicy tidbit.
Hey, all. Good to see you! Thanks for sharing your lovely images.
About 4″ of snow fell overnight here in the Catskills, creating a clean new blanket over recent messy thaw. I’m headed out to the chores/shoveling pretty soon now — after further caffeinated fortification (aka The Beany Blessings of Heaven). Further snow expected later.
Hi WW,
Always nice to have you stop by even if you can’t stay.
Good Morning All
We’ve just been having rain here. There are flood warning until tonight, but nothing really bad. Usually if it get one foot over the banks of the river people here start to panic. My biggest worry is always thunderstorms and tornadoes. We’ve already had one new roof put on the house. Luckily it has only been a slow steady rain.

okay I’m a diary pimp π
-although it’s not gonna be a bright, bright sunshiny day. We’re scheduled for mizzle for days to come.
I was poking around my computer system settings yesterday and realized that I’d never adjusted the screen refresh rate since we got our flat panel monitors many months ago.
It’d been at the default of 60hz, which I think many users would find somewhat tiring after a time. We both reset ours to the maximum for our equipment, 75 hz. It made the web page scrolling faster & tighter, and the screen is somehow more ‘still’
and easier to study & read.
It’s worth a try if you haven’t ever changed your defaults.
From a diary on DailyKos….
The idea is to vote all 100 senators or at least the best and worst for this poll based on integrity, honor, dignity and character.
http://newpoliticalreview.com/poll.php
Go give Boxer some 7’s and Frist some 1’s!
Let’s get the Dems all the top 20 for this 10 week poll. You get to vote once a week!
I done did dood it, ((((Sallllly)))))
Next week I’m going after Frist and then Inhofe! π
I did about 25 this morning while running some reports!
The usual bad guys – like Hatch, Frist, Santorum, McCain and more…
The usual good guys like Boxer, Durbin, Feingold…
And a few in between – Feinsein got some 5’s….
It was lots of fun!
I read it wrong huh?? π
I’ll bust em out tomorrow morning! I am so pissed with Feinstein…
Our latest Booman mug unfortunately arrived with a crack in it. I emailed the store this morning with a photo, and they’ve already replied that a replacement is on the way.
Thanks folks. We’ll be shopping again.
It’s after 3 and I’m just having my first cup of coffee. Might be time to order a froggy mug.
Thank goodness for digital cameras and email. In the olden days you would have had to pack it up and send it back for a replacement.
for quite a few years now. And so do my customers (& I encourage it).
It’s saved a lot of headaches and frustration in both directions.
Hi folks. Happy Monday. Hope you had a productive day, I did.
It’s girl scout cookie time her in St. Louis. One of my co-workers has a daughter who is a brownie and he just brought her in to make the rounds, which is so cute. Most of the time the parents just bring the list in. If the kids are entreprenurial they make a little note and attach their picture. But he actually brought her in and is taking her to people’s offices so she can make the ask herself (he pre-approved it with each of us so she won’t be dissapointed). She was quite the little saleslady — I asked her if they had any new products and she told me all about the new cookie and how it was good to “dunk in your coffee.”
Don’t worry Katiebird — if I order the cookies at work, I leave them at work and everybody else eats them within a few days. It’s the ones that I order from the neighborhood kids that are the problem. Maybe no one will ring my door this year.
I can eat an entire box of Thin Mints in one day. Even better right from the freezer. I just don’t even buy them anymore, even though I have to pass sad little faces outside the grocery store.
Ha! You’re an amateur! I could eat the whole box of thin mints in an hour! Especially if they are frozen. I like them frozen better than thawed. That’s why I like to buy them at work because I can just put them in the lunch room and let everybody else eat them. I get a couple and then they are GONE.
My favorites are the do si dos — but I only like to eat them with a big glass of milk. Which I have to go all the way to the ground floor to buy here at work. So I can have a couple of boxes of them around for a couple of months. But the thin mints? They gotta go.
my ass. Those chicks are raking it in.
What are they charging now?? 9.50 for a box with what… 12 cookies?
I was so bleeping ticked when I returned to the states and I paid some little browniegirl a $20 for two boxes of the thin mints and instead of 3 rows of squashed together cookies… there was only 2 rows and each cookie had a plastic molding separating each cookie.
Now I look at those girls and they’re the Cookie Mafoisa.
I just toss em a fiver for a cookie-less donation and call it even.
{looking around to make sure katiebird is not listening}
What flavor is it, the one that’s good to dunk in coffee?
check it out: link
Cafe cookies:
“Carmelized with brown sugar this charmingly crisp cookie will delight even cookie connoisseurs. With a hint of cinammon spice, it’s perfect with your favorite warm beverage.”
Serving size is 5 cookies — 150 calories.
hmmm which is a better deal than my favorite do si dos — there you get only 3 cookies for 180 calories.
sounds like he’d enjoy my Snickerdoodles cookies. Great for eating with espresso. If you make them soft-batched you don’t even need to dunk em.
Or forget the cookie part of it all and try my capuccinno double-shot cheesecake bars. π
Do you have horns, a trident and a pointy tail (and cloven hooves?)
No, cloven hooves, but I do have blue toenail polish if that counts? π
It’s one of the things I can bake and have altered the recipe that people just seem to love and crave more of.
Those cheesecake bars
Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers (baked)
Stuffed bacon/cream cheese mushrooms
oh and my really really good blended frozen drinkipoos.
But… I make the cheese cake bars with neuf cheese instead of regular cream cheese with is like 1/3 the fat π
I’ve got a link packed with pure evil. But I’ll save it for the next cafe so no one will miss it.
(chuckling madly)
the money…
sell medicinal brownies π
<ducks>
But seriously, they banned that at Mr. Damnit’s old factory. One of the main bossdudes would bring in a sheet and expect ALL to sign in for his kid. Then the facotry manager would bring a sheet and expect all… then the night supervisor would bring a sheet for his kid.
They finally said stop it. Only things that could be brought in for kids were academia matters. My son was involved with the tri-academathon and he made a killing.
He got sponsors for each correct answer he got in a “Jeopardy” type school game. The first round he got 128 out of 130 questions correct. He ended up coming in second after a week long event.
His tri-academthon ended costing Wayne’s super a bundle π
But no calories were involved π
hah! You must be the one who moved to N CA recently..?
Or is my memory befuddled again… for some historic reason?
Hola NDD π
I moved FROM Northern California and am in Northern Oregon.
OK, different state, same medicine
is not the kiddies selling cookies… NO.
It’s the ones like my daughter who sell…
those buckets of COOKIE DOUGH!
Danni scored over $600 for her class selling that. It’s like Suburbian Crack Cocaine!
That brings back delicious memories of Market Day at the kids’ school…big tubs of blobs of cookie dough. Who needs to back them. Just pop the dough in your mouth frozen. Yeah, I’m a pig.
Don’t say “pig”
Consider eating the raw cookie dough as I do
conserving energy π
I’m a total moosepuppy for cookie dough π
OMG — I didn’t know they did that! I hope no child shows up on my doorstep selling that addictive stuff. I would just stuff it into my face in one day (depending on how big the bucket was).
Our office is pretty low key about the whole thing — there’s not really any pressure on anyone to buy things. Although there are things for sale all the time.
This guy went around to his friends and asked (really asked) if we were planning to buy any cookies — because if we didn’t want any he just wouldn’t steer her to us. I really thought it was cute that at the brownie level she was such a good salesman. Dad is training her well to be a rainmaker — and more women need that kind of training.
But I agree — at $3.00 a box, you should get more. On the other hand …. the way it is now, I pay $3.00 a box for thin mints and only eat a few. So its really just a donation.
Be afraid be very afraid.
It’s fantastic cookie dough, too. STarts with an “O” I forget. They sell all sorts of flavors, too. It’s horrid!
Because you pay for it and then just when your guard is down they deliver it and you can’t help but scarf some of it down before you even bother to actually turn the damn oven on. π
I think it’s cute, too when the kids actually show up and do it themselves.
One cool boss who had 10 people under him told him worker bees to mark down one item they wanted from some Boy Scouts fundraiser and HE paid for it all. Which I thought was hella cool and a nice change π
I hope we go to a new cafe before Katiebird gets here and sees all this junk food packaging lying around.
Now I understand why you alluded to my evilness π
Well… let’s tell her it’s … ORGANIC! Yeah, that’s the ticket! π
Sorry.
Sorry!
Sorry all!
Please don’t kick me out of the cafe. Me sorry. I didn’t realize what I was eatin… sayin… typing.
I meant you were a temptress — like when the little kid has the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other — you’re the devil saying — eat the cappucino brownies.
We need to bribe SN to change the name of this cafe after we leave to something really really boring that KB won’t want to go back and read (even though it has 100 comments — what are the odds).
how does that go now, “none, and slim left town.”
than evil π
or imp π
Cookie Seductress is good, too. Can’t help it, I’m a Scorpio. You think you’ve got demons on your shoulders??? I have entire offense and defense line of bladed demons on mine π
I’m a water sign too — Pisces. Easily led into temptation by Scorpio. (she puts her fingers up into a cross) back, back you temptress and your brownies!
Sorry, I don’t entice with brownies π Cookies, cheesecake or jalapenos are my gig
Ha! Have you ever seen my sugar, frosted cookies?? They’re “BAD”
she point out how unlikely it is that your enticements are limited to cookies, cheesecake, and jalapenos.
I was just thinking the same thing.
I think I’m going to put up an all-nighter now. Still feel awful and I’m going to bed. Sorry guys.
You go ahead and go to bed. I’ll get the cafe.
Thanks, Andi.
I hope you feel better tomorrow and that CG has something good to tell you.
Lawyers out there — DKos is having a great discussion on page one about the 4th amendment. The rest of you … carry on.
Come to the new cafe.
