We voted for the weekend of March 31st. I have done some research on local hotels and negotiated with the manager at the hotel next door to my apartment complex to get the weekday rate. It only saves around $12 per night but still one of the best rates in the area @$98.95 per night for a room with two queens.You need to call the direct line at 858-755-1501 and ask for Liz Walter. You also will need to tell her you are requesting the room rate she quoted to Lee at the Terraces at Del Mar.I highly encourage you to make your reservations now as that weekend is at the tail end of spring breaks. You may also want to buddy up and share rooms to help cut your costs.

I thought we could do a Happy Hour at one of the local watering holes on Friday night.Saturday could be an on your own day seeing many of you expressed a desire to do or see different things.I will host a BBQ on Saturday night and will open my home for the central meetup point. A flight is cheap to San Diego. Rooms are cheap. I think it’s a time crunch with Mr. Damnit. He’s worried and stressed about the house.

Will do Cali. There are several shuttle companies from the airport if you are flying in but they tend to be pretty expensive. I suggested earlier when we first talked about this that folks might try to coordinate arrival times and maybe pitch in for a van or something. I have a little car with very limited “luggage space” so I wouldn’t be much help there but will try to help where I can of course. I will email more info on shuttles etc this evening when I get home from my Grandleezy’s birthday dinner. She’s nine today! How did that happen!?

looks pretty minimal — a couple of routes serving Del Mar (one north/south, one east/west); I need to do some additional research as to travel times. My flight home doesn’t leave till about 7 something in the evening, so I may have a few hours to kill so I could possibly do some schedule picking up for the spouse. I’m also thinking of seeing if I can rendezvouz easily with my niece and her spouse who live in Santee, at least for Sunday brunch or something. 🙂
Going to have a lot of planning to do before that weekend — but it’ll be great to get away on my own… 🙂

Yes, public transportation is minimal. Del Mar is about 20-25 minutes from the airport but an easy shot up The 5. I just got off the phone with JanetStrange and she is going to get a van and is willing to pick people up on Fir as she is coming in on Thurs. You may want to coordinate with her.
Santte is on the southeast side and I am North County coastal so about 40 minutes away. LA is a good 2 hour drive. We have two months to coordinate and think between us all it will work out fine.
Plane and car booked. I decided to get a mid-sized car rather than a van. I figure it’ll have adequate trunk space, etc. for luggage if anyone needs picking up at the airport – or train station! (Diane and Shirl – how cool is that?!)
I think it’ll be really cool to be the picker upper. I’ll be the one with the long white hair in a BooTrib T-shirt. No need for a sign 🙂

Oh those would be great! Hope everyone that is coming out is making their hotel reservation as Sally just said only a few rooms left. I will try to talk to Liz today to see what the story is. There are other hotels close by but you all need to get your butts in gear. Just kidding but I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out! Found a pretty decent combo deal on flight/hotel through Travelocity @ the Stratford — paying a little more per night hotel, but I can afford it so will leave the special priced rooms for the “truly needy”, if you’ll pardon the Reagan-ism. 😉
Room has single queen bed — if anyone wants to crash with me, I’ll try not to hog the sheets. 😉 Giving myself a real break from domesticity — flying in on the 30th and back home on the 2nd of April. I’m even going to bring the laptop so I can maybe get some writing done…ha ha ha…

I booked from Thursday night to Tuesday morning. If I’m flying out there from the east coast, I might as well do some exploring out there. I’ve never been to southern CA, and only once to northern CA, briefly. Actually, that was to the Santa Cruz area over a Thanksgiving holiday. Being a New Englander, it sure was odd to have sunny gorgeous weather on Turkey Day, that’s for sure. Funny how relative such things are.

Just booked my room — the price has suddenly and miraculously gone up about 40% — oh, well. Librarylil is still planning to come, and I haven’t heard from Kamakhaya yet. Luckily, that Friday is Cesar Chavez Day, so the kids (and some of the grown-ups) have the day off.
On a slightly down note, I no sooner voted for the 3/31 weekend in your poll than my local Democratic club announced their speaker for the special 3/31 meeting — Barbara Ehrenreich. Drat! 🙁
I got the feeling yesterday that Liz was going to try to up my rate too. But when she found out I was booking for five nights, she gave me a flat $99. I once worked the front desk of a hotel… My hunch is that her classic car group is paying more per night, possibly with meals or something. My two cents.
