It’d sure be fun to see that one 8 x 12.
Sheehan was “arrested for wearing the shirt she was wearing all day, which had the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq…She was lifted out of her seat [in the Capitol Chamber gallery] by the Capitol Police and taken away.”
Sheehan is “now under arrest and lockup by Capitol Police.” He confirmed that moments ago with Gael Murphy, a co-founder of CodePink, an organization which has been working Sheehan. Murphy spoke by cell with Sheehan after the arrest, and they are currently arranging for an attorney for her.
“This not the Park Police,” said Swanson. “We’re used to getting arrested by them. This was the Capitol Police….She didn’t even want to go to the speech, she said she couldn’t stand to listen to Bush, but she went. She didn’t even protest, she was just wearing the same shirt she’d be wearing all day, a black shirt with the number of troops killed. It was already ‘out of date’ and she had to add 3 more to the previous number.”
She was wearing a t-shirt… Good bye America was nice know you. Hello to BushWorld/
The matter before the jury is — does wearing a shirt like that mean that you are demonstrating in the capital building.
Who knows. But she got what she wanted. Publicity. And the fact that she was dragged out for wearing a shirt will play much better than being dragged out for unfurling a banner. (Depending on what the shirt looked like; a bad fashion sense could ruin the whole thing.) We need a picture of the shirt.
that to mention the number of expendables who have been rendered permanently unusable in the crusade is considered un-American.
There was a big todo over some guy who had a sign with the number in his window, it was near a recruiting office, and the recruiters objected, and it seems like most of the townsfolk agreed it was not something that should be on signs.
if the worm were turning. I suspect that inappropriate dress for the SOTU isn’t going to get much sympathy from middle america who weren’t given tickets. But who knows. But at least it will spark a debate – more of a debate than unfurling a banner.
was articulate, but it seemed very soft in nature to me. It was heavy on domestic stuff, very little on Iraq. That is going to be a problem if the party refuses to hit Bush hard on it.
The number of people actually watching him, thank god, is miniscule.
I’ve never figured out why the Dems can’t develop “code” the way the Republicans have. The president says something that makes no sense to us, so it goes right by us as an innocuous statement — but his BASE gets it. Why can’t WE do that?
And another thing — why can’t the Dems have their response in California in front of a big cheering crowd? With the magic of Television it shouldn’t matter where the speaker is.
Sorry, it was a Buffy reference. In other words, just because you live on a hellmouth you can’t let the demons get you down. You have the power to slay them, but you always need help from your friends.
I watched the Pistons, we lost – I did see a reference at TPM from Josh re SOTU and the president saying congress failed to act on his plan to phase out SS, with stony silence from the GOP and cheering from the Dems…
Had a wonderful evening with my in-laws; looks like I will be staying over there for a few weeks, mainly to help with the bandage changing till dad-in-law’s stitches comes out (mom-in-law is in a wheelchair and not very flexible, so she’s not sure how much she’ll be able to do), about 2-3 weeks. Won’t be going over there till he’s home; he’ll be in the hospital at least a couple of days, after that if the doctor doesn’t think he’s ready to come home, he’ll be transferred to a rehab hospital.
He’s a little nervous, mostly about the anesthesia — at his age, there’s always the risk that he’ll go under and not come out of it. But the anesthesiologist called tonight and they had a looooong talk, so I think that reassured him. He also got calls from the intake nurse at the hospital (letting him know what time they need him there) and from the rector of his church.
Okay, time to go get ready for bed and to take it easy…
but mom-in-law has my cell number; hopefully she’ll call and keep me posted. Her best friend is spending the day with her tomorrow; since she lives close to the hospital, the nurse said that they’ll call her about a half-hour before he’s due to go into the recovery room so she doesn’t have to sit around the waiting room worrying — they’re only about a 15 minute drive. And I’ll be heading over to spend a day with her on Thursday, mainly to help her with the e-mail and other computer stuff, then the spouse will come by after work and we’ll go visit dad-in-law in the hospital.
I’m just a little concerned — at his age (mid-70s), there’s always a chance of something getting screwed up. And I love my in-laws a whole bunch; I’m not looking forward to having to be “the rock” of the family if/when something bad happens.
Will let you folks know as soon as I can (somewhere between dinner and dance lessons…). 🙂
Beautiful photo, hilarious headline.
Don’t think I didn’t notice your admission in the Daily News Bucket the other day that you had stopped by for a quickie with Atrios.
lol! So you DID see it. It was for you, of course.
🙂
Of COURSE I saw it.
So do YOU like Gilbert & Sullivan? Or should he go back to Buffy?
Ha! I didn’t even recognize the G&S. One should ALWAYS go back to Buffy.
Thank you, dear Gooserock. I can hear the waves from my mountainside.

Oh, what a wonderful idea…. I’ll put the ocean surf CD on, that will help me sleep…

Now THIS story makes sense. Except that I believe she wore the shirt on purpose. But that’s her perogative.
Can people DO that???
Well many women deliberate for a long time before choosing the appropriate shirt for the occasion.
to deliberate long and hard over just how appropriate her choice was!

Thanks very much, DJ.
I survived the bleaping, barely…
You poor, poor baby, what you must have been through. Quick, someone get a drink! And something cold for the forehead.
Now you sit down in front of the fire and don’t think of that man anymore.
Sometimes only gifiti will do.
when i googled it, it said the “medicine of love”. Are there any, ahem, aftereffects of drinking this?
You should seek medical attention.
You’re far braver than I, Man E.
I s’pose we’re now on ‘spin’ ..
is over, now the spinners are at their game
How boring was the response?

Incredible, ain’t it?
THAT is a thing of beauty! I didn’t know there was anybody that still remembers Olde Frothingslosh!
Or Iron City Beer, for that matter.
Oh, I do need a drink after today and tonight

I don’t know, I couldn’t bear watching it. But I hope so.
The people on the main page might know. They were live blogging the speech, sort of.

Good Luck for your Father in Law tomorrow. If you get net access check in and let us know how everything goes.

Nice, but I thought I’d get a picture of you in your speedo.
I’m working on it! Just thought I’d get you started into the right frame of mind in case you retired early.
Sorry the magnification is so poor!
2 1/2 hours after opening this cafe, I barely realized that I didn’t use the froggybottom account. Oh well 🙂
I’m off to bed, have a great night everyone!
