Well, it has been a couple of weeks since the last diary. (Sorry, I was busy, then sick, then busy again.) The results of the last one indicated interest in locating the meetup in New York, with specific interest in the Catskill region. The time period of greatest interest was May, according to the comments.
I have compiled a few links to large hotels in the region. Many of the old Catskill hotels have ceased operations but these few persist. They offer extensive facilities but are not cheap. It wasn’t clear if this was the sort of thing that Tribbers were seeking or just a cabin near a stream. Indicate this in comments below.
The other issue is proximity in time to yearlykos. That may pose a financial burden for those attending both.
The links are (in no particular order):
Villa Roma Link
Kutscher’s Link
Nevele Link
Hudson Valley Resort (formerly the Granite, I believe) Link
Here is a link for searching other facilities, but I’ve provided the largest ones above. Link
Comment and indicate your preferences, ideas, etc. Thanks.

Hmm…I keep thinking we need a place like this one, but in the Catskills: Cove Farm. This one’s in Bar Harbor, so it’s not a viable choice for the meetup, it’s just meant as an example.
Why something like that, you ask? Because it’s pretty affordable, kid- (and pet-) friendly (with a frog pond and swings to hang out on), it’s in an area where there’s a ton of outdoorsy stuff to do, breakfast in the morning is part of the deal, and you have kitchen and barbecue access if you just want to hang out and have cocktails in the evening instead of going out to dinner (but there are plenty of choices for that too). Oh, and it’s big enough to accomodate us all without being huge and formal. Of course, I tend to be pretty low-key…
Anybody else have any thoughts? I’m not too familiar with the NY area.
You have GOT to be kidding?
Old line borscht belt dumps?
How…unprogressive of you!!!
These places REEK of middle class angst.
Poisonous to any new thought whatsoever.
Please…
How many people do you expect to show up?
We’d be better off taking over a medium sized, relatively inexpensive motel in Westchester. In White Plains or along the river. White Plains would be GREAT. Hundreds of relatively good restaurants, good rail transport into the city and within easy auto reach as well…
Kutscher’s???
What are we…retired tailors from the Bronx?
40-ish singles out for a furtive good time?
Please…

At the end of the Recent Diaries list. My two cents. I would appreciate a pet-friendly hotel myself, as Seth the ex- is not always available to watch Jasper when I travel, so having the option of bringing her along would be helpful.
Catskills area is fine by me. Just say when and I’ll be there. 🙂 Early to mid-May might be best, as folks might be making plans and preparing for travel over the Memorial Day weekend. More two cents. That, plus, it would be a month before YearlyKos, which may make planning a bit easier. I say fuck finances on all this, these are once in a lifetime opportunities… That said, I do recognize and am very thankful for the financial situation that I am in, and it is not all that cushy, mind you. But I do have some resources and things I could do if I needed to. I am just very appreciative of what I do have in my life and what it allows me to experience…
Have I mentionned here? I don’t think I have… I will be co-running the registration/info table at YearlyKos. I am thrilled about that! I will get to meet and greet most everyone who attends. I thought I would be working on the back-end, but am SO excited to be being up front. And, I’ve already checked and had this confirmed, I am allowed to give hugs even in my ‘official’ position. So excited. Who wouldn’t want that job? 🙂
cool about yearlykos — I’m registered.
Great!! I’ll see you there then! 🙂
Me too!
YAY! See you there, and hopefully beforehand in an east coast meet-up! 🙂
I hope you see this…
Look here and tell me what you think! (I’m getting an answer to the dog question today).
Looks great to me! And phallic too. 😉 I saw it briefly in the cafe perhaps? And of course, where do I go first? The Menus!! But honestly, I love that they use organic and local ingredients… big plus in my book. Plus, it looks like they have just a basically cool outlook on things, from seeing what they offer. I mean, nature, music, and the arts… how perfect!
Hope you see this. 🙂
