Howdy Ya’ll!
We’d like to plan a BooTribbers meetup in Memphis and we have several candidates for dates and times. “Memphis in May” hosts several events every year throughout the month of May. There is also a DFA workshop at the end of March(March 25th-26th, Sat-Sun, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm).
I think if we plan early enough we could probably get accomodations in Memphis during May, but the sooner the better. The DFA Workshop doesn’t clash with any major events in Memphis that I’m aware of.
Hopefully those of us who are interested can pick a time where we could all go. Please take the poll and let’s get the planning underway.
Should we issue the invitation to other blogs as well? If so, which ones?
Hi Blueneck, so glad you got all my messages. I voted for the bbq. I have to be careful not to take but a Friday, Sat, Sun. off for my work is that I can not get days off during the week.
As far as the other blogs, If they come they will be welcome, IMHO. But we did have the idea first!!!:o) Just kidding. Anyone will be welcome as far as I am concerned. Come one, come all. The more the merrier.

I thought we might go for MLW and a few other smaller blogs, but I also thought we might invite kossacks, too. Advisorjim from dkos (“confessions of a former dittohead” author) is known to frequent Memphis, for example. I’d love to meet him…
Also, I thought we would decide amongst BooTribbers what we would be our best dates before we invite anyone else! Then invite others if they can make it.
Hi all! I’m voting for the BBQ weekend too. I forget if this was going to be a weekend only event or include Friday? I would only be able to make it for weekend events (including Friday night).
I think we could have as many or as few events as we like. At least one major get-together time and place would be good so we could try to get everyone in one place at one time. Maybe Sat. night would be best for that.
I haven’t voted, because I can make any of the dates if I plan for it pretty soon.
Hopefully by May, the company will have found someone to cover my call. I hope if all goes weill I will be able to be there on Friday through the w/e. At least that is what I am hoping for. I am really looking forward to this event. Hugs to all…
Blueneck, if you go in to the south, you will see that someone there knows advisorjim. He/she will be able to invite him too. YOu have my good will to invite anyone who wishes to come and join in. I just do not want any trouble causing ppl. I have seen their big mouths over on the big orange. If you can tactfully tell them, this is not going to be a w/e for rebelrousing….:o) Thanks…:o)
If by some chance we can get a big crowd, we can alert the press too. I can take the time to alert the com. appeal and chanels 4&5 and others. What do you say to that one too. If we can get our message out to the public, maybe we can do something in that effect. It is up to the group. As you know, my son is a cop and he can help us with doing it withing the law and help us find safe and security in the process. Maybe we can go and eat at one of the fine places on Beale street too one of the nights/days. I am so looking forward to this. The getting to know each other and spreading our word to others that we are here for them so that they have a voice in things as well. So many feel that way, you know. Yea, I’m with you on the big orange/big mouths. I’m a refugee… It might be possible to cherry-pick the southerners we want and send invites individually, although I wouldn’t be TOO worried about the southerners that hang their hats over there. They’re probably a little bit better behaved than the random kossack crowd. [Is my Suthern bias showing now? 😉 ]
Also, I’m not terribly interested in a huge crowd, as I prefer a more personal and and manageable experience. I don’t envision renting any convention halls or anything, just a few planned meetups and plenty of time for everybody to go their own way and experience some of Memphis with their families and other friends they might have around.

Oh Blue, I wasn’t saying it develope into something big. I jsut was meaning that we can get some hlep in getting the word out if we can make it public. Memphis is as of now a blue county. If we can help th e demnocratic party become aquainted to the progressive part of the world, they just might take a good listen to us. I am not afraid of the TBI or the FBI. I think some of them would even welcome us here..:o) Oh well, Blue, you started this thing you control it. It is your baby. I am just very interested in meeting our folks…for sure!!!!!
…..and eat some great BBQ!!!!!!!!! That in and of itself is worth the trip!!!!! I used to know some of the entrents there. HOpe to find some and maybe help towards the cause….:o) Oh my mouth is not watering to just think of it….WOW!

Barbecue weekend for me too. At my age, food’s about as wild as I get. Besides, I’m in a primary May 2 and I’ll probably need a little resting up before I hit the road.

Sorry to take so long to touch bases. This was my birthday weekend, AND Superbowl weekend. Didn’t have much time for the computer.
I see that everyone who voted chose the BBQ dates. I guess that shows where our priorities lie :^)
Could we get a “group” rate on the hotel if enough of us pre-register? Or at least a list of modestly priced options…
Hi Mara, I have a place I usually stay that is relatively inexpensive. I’ll share the info in an upcoming diary. It’s downtown. It’s not the nicest place around, but it gets the job done. Last time I stayed there I had a room with a beautiful view out the window into a back alley…like I said, not high class, but it does have beds and showers. 🙂 Of course, there are a ton of places to stay in and around Memphis. I’m not sure what the bookings are looking like for the barbecue weekend, but I’ll talk to someone tonight who might have some insight into how big an event that usually is and if we need to hurry up and book rooms.
Anyway, I’ll be posting a new diary soon, announcing the reults and asking everybody a few more questions.
I’m definitely looking forward to the meetup. I think it’ll be great fun!

Barbeque weekend sounds wonderful – I’m already getting hungry for some of the real stuff! (Not to mention slipping away for some appropriately cooked catfish, too). Of course, food is not the purpose of such a confab, I know.
