VNU will become a private owned company like SAIC
Carlyle Group in bid for VNU Publication Group with
ownership of DataMining companies LexisNexis – Seisint Inc.
ChoicePoint – DBT Online – Voter Purge Florida ’00-’04
Data wholesaler LexisNexis, a division of Reed Elsevier, has admitted that personal information concerning 310,000 US citizens has been stolen. In March, the company admitted to losing data related to only 32,000 victims.
It has since transpired that unauthorized users breached the system 59 times using stolen passwords, and grabbed data belonging to an additional 278,000 people.
The disclosure mirrors the ChoicePoint debacle, in which only 35,000 victims were acknowledged initially, a number later rounded up slightly to 100,000.
In less than seven weeks’ time it has been revealed that, in addition to privacy invasion, ChoicePoint, LexisNexis, payroll handler PayMaxx, Bank of America, health care heavyweight San Jose Medical Group, California State University at Chico, Boston College, University of California at Berkeley, and a large shoe retailer called DSW, all have lost control of sensitive data concerning millions of victims.
- ChoicePoint finds wealth in information
ChoicePoint is not alone in eyeing the government for new business. LexisNexis and others also work closely with national security and intelligence officials. To compete in the homeland security market, LexisNexis paid $775 million last year for Seisint Inc., a rival company with a supercomputer and a counter-terrorism system dubbed MATRIX.

VNU NV, the Dutch owner of the ACNielsen research company, is discussing an $8.88 billion bid from buyout firms including Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company, two months after shareholders forced the resignation of VNU’s chief executive.
VNU said it received an offer of $34 to $34.52 a share from a group that also includes AlpInvest Partners NV, Blackstone Group LP, Carlyle Group, Hellman & Friedman LLC, Permira Advisers Ltd., and Thomas H. Lee Partners LP.

It all comes down to who owns the data. A friend of mine said that 12 years ago, and I’ve watched the “pac-man” advance ever since. In the early seventies Bank of America initiated a thumbprint policy for non-account holders. I told them to piss up a rope, and made my boss cash my payroll check. He laughed until they asked for his.
The policy went away in short order. Now it’s the Borg method – resistance is futile – and people are just not willing to fight it.

Really scary. We are powerless if we don’t get them out of office….would people like Gore, Clinton and Kerry go along with this?
I gave money to and voted for John Kerry, so I feel I have earned the right to ask this: Why did Kerry lie down for the 2004 results?
Is it because of this: “Skull & Bones: The Secret Society That Unites John Kerry and President Bush”?
There’s more to read at the author’s site.
Just saw a 2000 movie on TV, “The Skulls”. It scary as all get-out, but offers the only explanation I can fathom about why Kerry stood down.
/tin-foil hat? or … ?
The control of “data” has become a big issue in advanced countries. The commercial uses are fairly obvious: Walmart can track every item from China to check out, Google can market search terms based upon user patterns, etc.
There is also the concern over secret surveillance and data mining. As I wrote recently this only works when the objective is to spy on one’s own citizens and internal dissidents.
The new “enemy” that the US is so focused on lives outside the world of “data”. Just today the NY Times has a story that says that all the NSA data mining found at most 10 people and even these didn’t pan out. The US is building a Maginot Line against terrorism which will be as ineffective as the original was.
To the extent we are given information, the US has stopped one frightened man from Canada with a bomb in his car, one lunatic who was going to destroy the Brooklyn Bridge with a blow torch, and a “shoe bomber”. All the surveillance hasn’t prevent the bombings in Spain, Britain or Indonesia.
When the US sinks into a real police state (yesterday it was announced that the US is going to build concentration camps) it will also cease to be a competitive world economic power. The cure is worse than the disease.
Here’s a little tidbit about Google from The Times on Line Edition (UK) 3 Feb 06.
Very interesting stuff that I haven’t seen in the American press. Highly recommended.
Peace
Hi,
Oui – What a terrific job you did in connecting the companies.
A.C. Nielsen is the MARKETING arm of Nielsen – It works with Ad Agencies, Large companies like GM, when Crest should put out its new mouth wash etc. For example back in the late ninety’s it worked with CVS pharmacies, which were failing. Now CVS is Everywhere!!
Personal Data on individuals is captured and OWNED by Nielsen TV Ratings. They put little meters on your TV’s and computers, which dial down to THEIR computers at around 2:30 AM, depending on what part of the country you are in. The TV Ratings captures, what kind of house, birth dates of all family members, annual income, languages used, what kind of cars, movies watched, who is primary grocery shopper and other such info. This information is updated every 3 months by the “membership representative”, which I used to be one. They told us they were using it in summary format, and to provide “Only demographic” groupings to ad agencies.
I am HORRIFIED to find out people who trusted me personally are now being so betrayed by Nielsen TV Ratings, and their data being sold to the Carlyle Group!! I am going now to be very, very sick.
