A quick review of the blogosphere this morning gives us some hope for an improvement in the fortunes of those of us seeking to “fight back” in order to “take back” our country.
1. The push-back on the NSA spying story is becoming more bi-partisan: “Republican Who Oversees N.S.A. Calls for Wiretap Inquiry.”
2. Some Dems are starting to figure what’s not working: “Some Democrats Are Sensing Missed Opportunities.” My favorite quote: “Democrats said they had not yet figured out how to counter the White House’s long assault on their national security credentials.”
3. John Murtha! The blogosphere’s favorite Democratic Hawk is getting hugs and kisses from Arianna and John at Crooks and Liars.
4. We’re thinking about strategy NOW for the 2006 national elections: “Our Message In 2006: Republicans Control Congress,” from Chris Bowers.
5. Two Words: Helen Thomas. I know it’s asking too much from Helen to be responsible for regularly kicking the Scottie’s ass, but until she gets more help from her colleagues, let’s be very appreciative.
OK, I know I may be accused of being overly optimistic, but I am trying to overcome my usual cynical tendency to focus on the “tunnel at the end of the light.” Have a great day!
Update [2006-2-8 23:57:8 by howieinseattle]: We have a #6 tonight: “Sen. Clinton Urges Democrats to Speak Up — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday accused Republicans of “playing the fear card” of terrorism to win elections and said Democrats cannot keep quiet if they want to win in November.
The New York Democrat, facing re-election this year and considered a potential White House candidate in 2008, said Republicans won the past two elections on the issue of national security and “they’re doing it to us again.”
She said a speech by presidential adviser Karl Rove two weeks ago showed the GOP election message is: “All we’ve got is fear and we’re going to keep playing the fear card.”
It is always gratifying to see your own sentiments expressed by a member of the US Senate. Now all we need is a card of our own. Arianna suggests that card is Jack Murtha.
I think the piece by Adam NaGOPney is typically biased, a doom-and-gloom attempt to throw a wet blanket on the Dems as ‘not getting it.’ Especially progressives; disdain for Dean, Gore and Pelosi et al while casting DNC types like Bayh and H. Clinton in more favorable light. Worst is the ‘graphic’ attached, with the ‘leaders’ of the party highlighted. The captions are overtly hostile, IMHO.
Yep. I pulled a positive out of it, I think.
New NSA programs are being approved as we speak and it doesn’t seem to gain much opposition.
As for the cartoon controversy, the progressives sound more like Bush today than the GOP does.
That same scholarly debate is creating more divisions within dem and progressives movement for a unified force.
…oh yeah, BushCo announced the redevelopment of the H-bomb.
This is progress?
Is the outrage on the Blogosphere about Cory Maye’s death sentence.
I posted a diary here, but you don’t have to visit that to sign the recently drafted petition now.
From one website devoted to his case:
Just over four years ago a police officer tragically lost his life over a series of bad judgements. A father reacting in protective fear for his 18 month old daughter should not pay for one tragedy with his life for his role in that tragic event. This is a travesty.
We can stop this. If enough of us act and Mississippi knows we are watching Maye’s life may be spared.
Send emails, write letters, sign the petition.
Thank you!
to do other than laying down and playing dead! Or worse, playing “jump up” like Joe.
My attempt to pass out “happy pills” isn’t working, yet, it would appear.
