Early to bed, early to rise makes a girl healthy, wealthy and wise. Not to mention boring.
Party on folks, the night is young.
Supersoulsister! Quit being younger than me, you biotch!
Who you callin a bitch, bitch?
I waited to wish you Happy Birthday so I could stand out. HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Thank you Mary.
You stand out wherever you are.
You’re such a …….dear ;o)
(hangs head) sorry.
In real life I’m often quiet.
happy birthday
Better?
What do you mean Mary? It was a compliment ;o)
Now if Katiebird and Kansas come in and call you dear then it’s time to be less conspicuous.
Actually, it was Wilderness Wench and Katiebird who freaked me out with the dearing.
I feel fairly certain that kansas has never called me dear — I generally associate the phrase “a ha” with kansas.
Just because I like to leave now and then for quickies with Atrios. Sheesh.
I’m trying to catch up but I keep coming up a little, well just quit getting older sister biotch
Well, the alternative is…death. So I guess I choose getting older. But damn, I didn’t think you were 3 whole years younger than me. You guys are so lucky that you can grow beards and look distinguised and hide double chins and whatnot.
I’m not hiding any double chins yet but I’m not sure about the what nots. I’ll have to take a look ;o)
…and hey, quit squaking about your age. I’ve seen the pictures ok?
And I might need some counseling to learn how to embrace my inner fat bastard :o)
You’re way ahead of me – I can’t even see my whatnots anymore.
I’ll catch up with you sometime on the big day to deliver the birthday spanking! ;^D
Hey that’s cute.
That’s really cute!
Near simultaneous posting… well they say great minds think alike
Ya gotta catch me first Grandma ;o)
On the other hand, maybe i shouldn’t be so eager to run…Hmmmm
Thank you SallyCat
That McDonald’s commercial reminded me of Toni — grading papers in the cafe.
Well this old man is going to bed.
Everyone have a peaceful night.
Still early here. Say, how about a radical suggestion. The cafe is popular enough that no matter what we do, they fill up and our gracious hosts open new ones way before they scroll very far down the recent diaries list. Do we really need to recommend these, and take up room on the rec list? They’re pretty easy to find…
continuing from last cafe:
I assumed that you hadn’t taken DJ’s advice on what to say to her since we didn’t have to have a BT fundraiser to bail you out of jail. What was she like?
Yeah, I chickened out, though not out of any lack of confidence that the cafe crowd would come through with bail for me.
Actually, she’s very good, and like almost all professional politicians (there are certain exceptions, of course), personally impressive. Strong personal presence, gracious manner, listens to you as though talking to you were the most important thing she had done all day. Then passes on to the next person seamlessly and naturally.
What I saw that was new for me was that she takes her leadership role seriously. I lived in her district for a number of years, and so had only previously seen her as simply the Representative from that district (we now live in Anna Eschoo’s district). She clearly wants to be Speaker, both as a matter of her own desire, and because that would mean we again have a Democratic majority in the House. But the tradeoff for her constituents (basically the northern half of San Francisco) is that she spends her energy on national issues and national party strategy, and not so much on the interests of her direct constituents. That said, she must have one of the safest districts in the nation.
I live in Gephart’s former district. So it was the same for us. Everything was national. Although if you have to be represented by someone in the minority party, it helps to have the most highly visible member. Life is certainly different for us with a junior congressman.
I’m glad you had a chance to talk to her. (And that you chose NOT to risk being arrested. Although DJ will be disappointed.)
I think I’ve mentioned it before, but I grew up in that district, long enough ago to remember when Jim Symington was the Representative, and then when Dick Gephardt was a freshman Congressman.
I work with Jim’s brother Tim (Stuart Jr.).
If everyone remembers to UNrecommend on their way out, there should never be more than one on the reco list. You guys just filled them up so fast tonight!
Wow!
You guys have been busy tonight. Just back in, and seeing two 100++ comments cafes earlier tonight. What’s going on?
Oh, and cheers, BTW.
watching Olympics — pairs skating. DON’T tell me.
Hehe.
No worry, all I know today is women’s snowboard – and I am just back in – have they showed it yet?
Party on, folks. Have to teach tomorrow, and go to interminable meetings. Must appear interested in meetings, at least.
‘Nite.
hmmm… never know how to operate these automats…
Self: Self, may I please have a shot of Irish Mist. A double, and go light on the ice cubes, please.
Self: Certainly, and for your friend?
Self: What friend is that, absent friends or alter-egos?
Self: Any and all of the above.
Self: Right you are, bartending self, leave the bottle and plenty of glasses…. just in case.
Self: Cetainly, self.
Self: Thanks.
Just washing up those glasses now, and filling the ice bucket… won’t be a moment, self.
Ici, monsieurs et mesdames.
I’m sure all the men are going to rush over to the diary about Moroccan penis cutting. Talk about a catchy title!
Is this what you mean when you say you only read the diaries you’re interested in Mary?
Well, I do only read what I’m interested in. And so far I haven’t read that one. So I’m not sure what that says about me.
I am betting it ends up on the recommended list with lots of comments. Its inevitable.
You’re probably right and I can even anticipate who will be commenting.
On that note I guess I’ll head off to bed and try not to have nightmares now.
NIght, super-happy birthday!
Super-thank you CabinGirl
You’re the best :o)
I super-needed that this morning! 🙂
and only check it out for the pictures… 😉
Been out most of the day — got the spouse a Valentine’s Day gift, exchanged a nightgown for my mom-in-law, went to a workshop at the Apple Store, and finally bought the new desktop iMac system I’ve been craving! Now I need to get the desk to set it up on…saw a couple over on the Office Depot site (accessible through the BooTrib link) that I’m seriously considering.
Okay, time to go get in my PJs and watch tonight’s Countdown…according to Leezy, Olbermann and Milbank totally skewered Cheney over the hunting incident…
Hey I forgot to tell you that I got my ihome to work — although I have no idea how I did it. But it works fine now.
Oh, they did but good, Scribe. And Jon Stewart devoted about half the show to the “incident.” This will probably all blow over soon, but I’m enjoying it immensely right now.
Wrong post I know, but happy b-day to super! I hate the damn things these days, and try to forget them. Heh. 🙂
I’ll pass. LOL
ooooh. Is anybody watching skating. ouuuch.
You suppose we’ll spill any beans by talking about those guys, or has everyone else gone to bed.
MachoMahn, or not I needed a hanky for that one.
I was crying when she finished.
US women snowboarding on the half-pipe, or whatever they call that event. Such exuberance! Hard to comprehend from these accumulated decades. But I thank them for sharing the joy of life with us. My new heroes.
They were just flying.
Yeah, and some of them were doing stuff the men rarely or never do, pretty amazing. I think that would be one event I’d put a priority on attending, should I be so fortunate to have that opportunity.
I flipped over to David Letterman to see how he handled the comedy of the Cheney shooting. It’s pretty good.
So far I’ve missed all the TV coverage of that. Sent that Elmer Fudd cartoon to some on my list… ha ha, we deserve some excuses for humor on our side.
BTW I shook hands with Dick G and his wife at the last interim convention that the D’s had which was in Philly ’82. Pissed now that I didn’t get John Glenn’s autograph… what was I thinking. ‘Course he wasn’t my favorite of the bunch then. Although he was the most outgoing/friendly of the whole bunch, including Ted K, Walter Mondale, … forgetting now who else was there.
Dick and Jane are nice people. He had no chance of becoming President and I wish he hadn’t tried. I worked on his first campaign for congress.
aha, seems you’ve been active in politics for a while too. After a fund raiser for Kent Conrad in my home town (out in the boonies)and before he defeated Sen Andrews I drove him back to Bismarck in a blizzard in my ’69 LTD. With studded snow tires that thing was almost as good as a 4 w drive. Got within two blocks of his apt, then we walked in snowdrifts up to our knees to get there. Slept overnight on the couch. Interesting times.
However, I’ve been extremely disappointed in many of his votes lately, habeas corpus, for Altio, etc. Better quit there, before rabies symptoms set in…
I’ve been political since I was a baby. My grandpa was a local Democratic politician and so the whole family was expected to be political. And liberal.
One of my uncles revolted and became a conservative Republican (a very vocal Republican which make family events quite interesting).
The only grandpa I knew used to vote for Norman Thomas when he was running for president. So there’s definitely a genetic component for a liberal gene on this end too.
I have no doubt he’s spinning at the speed of light these days what with our current situation.
Do you watch the TV show 24?
in Fargo on 24, is it worth taking a gander at?
Nevermind. Something just reminded me of it. But it would take too much effort to explain and if you aren’t a fan of the show, I don’t think I could explain.
other than the fire breathing dragon up above us.
Everybody was up too late last night watching the Olympics.
