Anybody else planning on going to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics? We are! < crickets chirping >
I can barely plan what I’m next month, let alone in 4 years.
Seconded!
I’ll consider it a miracle if I’m still embodied 😉
And reading my comment, I realize I can’t even plan all the words in a sentence.
Me no can plan doing week either. Just day to living gives fits.
Is this winter or summer?
And the answer would be maybe….we anticipate retiring in 2010…
Winter!!! I hope to be a fully capable snowboarder by that time. But alas, I’ll be about 30 years too old to enter the olympics.
in attending, so we’ll keep it in mind — will be four years before he retires, but he’ll be up to 6 weeks vacation by then…
sometimes dreams do turn into reality.
Scientists have discovered a 164 million year old Jurassic Beaver ….I just like saying that, Jurassic Beaver. You think Marmotdude is jealous that he’s not getting this much attention?
Dibs on stealing that for Cheers & Jeers on DailyKos tomorrow….
The warped ones over there will love saying Jurassic Beaver…over and over again!
Marmotdude won’t be jealous unless they find a fossilized martini glass, too.
Or little Oakley’s and a bikini top.
Not to worry — they buried Dean Martin in LA.
(har har).
Just got home from work and am dragging my butt and brain somewhere behind…dinner and a quiet drink and I should be semi-normal again. Well….as normal as I get…
Maybe you are ‘extra normal’.
(category stolen from ‘Local Hero’)
What a sweet kitty!
Let’s not ask what s/he was doing in there ..
🙂
So, who’s still awake?
I’m crossin’ the line, maryb. Reduced to cracking bad jokes, even. How are you?
a little slap happy tonight are you?
I’m good. Just got in. I always find it so odd that people are gone and in bed when its only 9:00 (where I am).
I am not in bed. So there.
Signed: An Old Geezer
<shock>
(picks self off the floor)
speechless
I can render you speechless just by staying up? Well damn, all these years and now I find out I have a super power.
How come you didn’t dog blog today. The slackers didn’t want to play with Luna?
The slackers didn’t do anything worth taking a picture of.
So mary how was your night tonight?
It was very nice. How are you? Mouth sore?
At the moment no pain and I’m a little bit away from reality. Rather nice until the pain meds wear off.
I have to admit that you and Dean Martin jokes did strike me as an unlikely matchup.
Temperatures here reached nearly 40 degrees today — so I’ve obviously got a buzz on.
Plus, I’m still escaping reality — in which I’m generally rather dour.
I’m actually taking my leave before Andi does!
Have a wonderful night, all.
This is truly a shocking night.
Good night!
Good night WW. Have pleasant dreams.
Another shock. Aren’t you up a little late? Not that I’m not happy to see you.
Yep I am. it’s the effects of the pain medicine I took for my dental work today. Always makes me hyper.
in that comment somewhere, but damned if I’m gonna look for it… 😉
Spouse went out to pick up dinner, so I’ve got a bit of time before I have to switch gears into Devoted Spouse Mode… 🙂 (though I should probably take a shower and put on clean PJs…)
Can we all move left? OVER HERE
I thought pain meds made people tired?
(Andi must have her dogs on pain pills)
Great it was getting confusing moving back and forth. No in my case it has an opposite effect.
George must like that? More exercise for him. Or is he just looking at you like your crazy.
That’s the way George always looks at me. Plus George has gotten into the same habit of early sleep as I usually do. He’s passed out on the bed right now.
well, as long as George’s schedule isn’t affected. That’s all that counts.
And George better show up on Saturday. I was lost without him in the kitchen last week.
I didn’t know you were hosting again on Saturday. I’m very happy to hear that. I’ve thought before if you weren’t a lawyer you should have been a talk show host.
And George and I will be there for kitchen duty. Now I’ve got to find a waiters costume to post of him on Saturday.
Okay, now the old geezer is going to bed.
Night all.
see you tomorrow
Night Andi – sleep well.
Yeah, JURASSIC BEAVER!…whew, now that that’s outta my system…whazup?
Peace
Sounds like a Michael Crichton spoof.
How are you tonight?
Stationary.
Got some smooth music on the stereo
makin’ the scene with a magazine
I’m not weird about it
or anything…
I don’t tie myself up first…
tom waits
I haven’t heard Tom Waits for ages. I used to love his raspy voice.
Waits is one of my favorite artists, have seen him many times over the years. First time was in the Cruise Room in the Oxford Hotel in Denver c 1972. About 20 people in the place $3 cover. The Oxford at that time was a pretty much a dive, as was the entire area…not the yupscale paradise it’s now become
Actually had a chance to sit and chat with him and his lady for an hour or so in the bar of the Union Hotel in Occidental, Ca., back about ’83-84…crazy/smart/creative cat…very funny in a very dark way.
Check out his Site if you’re a fan…one of the premiere song writers/poets of our generation, IMNSHO.
Peace
You know … Jurassic Beaver would make a GREAT name for a band.
Are you really Dave Barry in drag?
Peace
uh, no?
Mary is one of those tough women lawyers you see portrayed on the TV. She just drops the guise of she lawyer from hell and becomes the nice mary we know when in the cafe.
Uh, Family Man? TV is not like real life (I know that’s hard to believe but trust me on this).
Actually I’m pretty much the same all the time. I do transactional work which means my entire job is getting people to talk to each other and make a deal. If I did litigation I would be justified in being a hard ass; but in my job being a hard ass doesn’t really accomplish anything.
So really, I’m not much different at work, I just have to talk about serious things most of the time.
TV isn’t real life? I’m so crushed now.
I was just kidding earlier. It’s easy enough to see the people who are really hard asses all the time.
That’s the reason I said earlier I thought you would make a good talk show hostess. No pun intended. And that’s the reason I’m sorry I missed last weeks cafe with you hosting. I’ve thought before that you would make a wonderful host for the cafe.
But TV really, really isn’t real? Go figure.
Nope. Most TV is badly written fiction.
I got a question for you. I know you don’t have cable, but you do watch APT. Are there any of the English comedy show or the English detective shows you watch?
APT = American Public Television?
I don’t usually watch any of the British comedies although I’ve seen that one with Judy Dench. Mysteries — I sometimes watch the one with the two gardening ladies. And the Miss Marple ones when they are on. Inspector Lynley mysteries. Probably a few more.
But I don’t watch them regularly. I think they’re on on Thursday nights opposite CSI, so if I’m home I watch CSI.
The reason I asked is because I became hooked on the one with Judi Dench – As Time Goes By is the name. Also I’ve watched the mysteries you mentioned, but I think my favorite is Inspector Morris mysteries. No one in my family watches them and I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that does.
I’ve seen Inspector Morris, but not enough to really talk about. Same with the Judy Dench show. I’ve liked it when I’ve seen it. But I see it maybe once every couple of months. Sorry!
I used to be really hooked on Masterpiece Theater, but the last few years not so much.
Time to move down and left
Oh well. My hyper medicine is wearing off so I think I’ll going George and go to sleep.
You have a pleasant night.
Bye, hope you feel better
I detect a bit of uncertainty here…perhaps we shold run a few tests.
Vat do you see Maryb? Heh?
Peace
No I’m certain I’m not Dave in drag, I’m just uncertain why you wondered if I was.
You apparently do not or have not read him.
One of his standing riffs is taking strange and innocous phrases and saying…”THAT would be a great name for a band”
No offense…humor doesn’t always work.
Peace
I wasn’t offended, just confused. Since I don’t read him it was pretty much a non-sequitor in my eyes. Actually, I thought maybe I offended you in some way — although why suggesting a name for a band would be offensive was beyond me.
I really DO think Jurassic Beaver would be a great name for a band. Don’t you?
Peace
I agree with your IMNSHO of Waits. I always found his songs to have much more meaning than the top 40 stuff I used to listen to. Thanks for the link.
Mary or anyone who does travelling and makes motel reservations. I can’t think of the website’s name, but which one is it that you can check out the hotels and make reservations at.
Expedia?
Although if there is a chain you like you can usually just go to their website.
Thanks I was just lazy to look it up.
slacker
Hey I’ve learned form the best ;).
Evening from hell with crazed kidlets making everybody loony. Kids asleep, dishes finally done, pretty soon I’ll begin looking for hard alcohol. Anybody still up?
Don’t you think Jurassic Beaver would be a great name for a band?
Sounds great, but what kind of music should they play?
I hadn’t gotten that far in my thinking. Something loud I expect 🙂
Are you still there?
They’ve been showing progress on Bush Stadium III on the news. It’s really strange to have Bush II completely gone and this new monstrosity up right next to where it was.
Still here. Is the demo of old Busch Stadium (well, actually, I’m old enough to have gone to games at the really old Busch Stadium, fka Sportsman’s Park, on North Grand) done? I guess it must be — the new site overlaps the old one, right? Something like the left fielder in the new park will stand where the right fielder stood in the old one, but facing the other way?
It’s done. At least the structure is down, I don’t know if all the land fill is in. It does overlap — they were worried if we had a lot of snow, it might be cutting it close. Ha! Not with global warming.
And you must have been quite young when you were at Sportsman’s Park. I remember them putting home plate into Busch. But I was pretty young.
I was about 8 when we went to Sportsman’s Park. Actually, my very first Cardinals game was Game 4 of the 1964 World Series (at Yankee Stadium) — the one in which Roger Craig pitched six innings of scoreless relief, and Ken Boyer hit a grand slam in the 6th. Cards won that game (and the Series) 4-3.
Five or six years ago I was in St. Louis and ran into Tim McCarver in the gym at the hotel. As it happened, my brother and I had been talking about that Series the night before. One of the plays we recalled was the one where McCarver stole home. So I said to him, “My brother and I were talking about you last night.” You could see him steel himself for some wisecrack about his work as a broadcaster, until I told him we’d been talking about that play. I’d never seen a guy’s eyes light up like that. Who wouldn’t be glad somebody remembered your stealing home in the World Series?
I just opened a new cafe — if you bring this over there, we can continue in cleaner surroundings 🙂
Remember that figure skater you were asking about last night? It was Elene Gedevanishvili from the country of Georgia.
Thanks. How did she do tonight?
I thought she did really well. She has great potential. She ended up coming in 13th overall. Not bad for a little sprout on her first time in the spotlight.
I imagine that over the next four years she’ll become the star that Scott expects her to become.
I didn’t see the skating tonight. But I heard who got medals. Too bad about Sasha.
It broke my heart. So did Irina.
It’s tough. I always like for everyone to skate perfect programs. Make it hard on the judges!
BTW — yesterday’s cafe was great. I’m glad you’re doing Wednesdays.
Thanks.
whooppppeee!!!
Hi
Is the danger passed with regards to the leftcoasters as far as discussing Oly results.
Must be
Actually, it’s not over here until 11 or so. I saw it earlier on CBC. I hope I didn’t screw it up for anyone! Yikes!
It’s hard to know. We’ve been in hot water here before. Guess it depends on who’s still up and around. Hard to be aware of everything when it’s so easy to dump words and letters.
If something is hard to bare, is it bear, sometimes my mind goes totally blank on stuff I’ve known for years.
Bear looks better actually.
On the other hand I’ve got a VISA card number memorized, so go figure.
After the first couple of falls for Sasha I couldn’t bare to watch any more, at least this night, and I did have the vcr running, so MsNDD and I can watch together when the schedule allows.
Anyway, I ended up being very surpised at the outcome. Complicated trying to understand that scoring, no matter how many times they try to explain it to me.
The J woman skater was sure happy. I’m happy for her and J too. Good that they got one finally.
The worst part (almost) is that she skated beautifully after that.
I’m glad you posted that diary about your meeting. It was really good!
I think so too.
that one was sort of spur of the moment. Tried sleeping for while, and than wasn’t working, so hit the keyboard with a vengance.
Actually it was my first to hit the rec list, (as I just posted the other one for jimstaro that I found at ET), I really appreciate the gang here at the FBC for boosting today’s diary into visibility.
This whole diary business is a fascinating process.
You two come over to the fresh new cafe — it will load faster!
here
yeah, Cabin Girl linked to it in the News Bucket
We’re at 102 comments so I opened a new cafe
What’s wrong with going to 175 or whatever it was that night. Did ya git spanked for that one?
