Bev Harris of Black Box Voting has a new article up at her site. She also diaried it at Daily Kos where DHinMI promptly went on the attack.
Harris claims:
The internal logs of at least 40 Sequoia touch-screen voting machines reveal that votes were time and date-stamped as cast two weeks before the election, sometimes in the middle of the night.
Black Box Voting successfully sued former Palm Beach County (FL) Supervisor of Elections Theresa LePore to get the audit records for the 2004 presidential election.
After investing over $7,000 and waiting nine months for the records, Black Box Voting discovered that the voting machine logs contained approximately 100,000 errors. According to voting machine assignment logs, Palm Beach County used 4,313 machines in the Nov. 2004 election. During election day, 1,475 voting system calibrations were performed while the polls were open, providing documentation to substantiate reports from citizens indicating the wrong candidate was selected when they tried to vote.
Another disturbing find was several dozen voting machines with votes for the Nov. 2, 2004 election cast on dates like Oct. 16, 15, 19, 13, 25, 28 2004 and one tape dated in 2010. These machines did not contain any votes date-stamped on Nov. 2, 2004.
Below the fold I’ll show you an example of one of the logs. I don’t know quite to make of her information. The info is too incomplete for me to assess. But it doesn’t look good when the votes for a November 2nd election are date stamped on October 16th.

I saw Jpol over there this morning tangling with the disruptor. As far as I’m concerned this constitutes evidence that at least shows an anomalie within these machines that needs to be investigated further.
Big thanks for front paging this Booman.
ps
used to live in Jupiter across from the lighthouse on a boat. Nice place but I’m not sure I’d want to cast a vote there now.
Frankly, I’m personally of the opinion that as long as significant anamolies exist in the implementation of these machines, regardless of possible explanations, electronic voting should be totally scrapped. Period.
But of course, due to successful ‘promotional efforts’ by concerned companies, we’re generally moving in the opposite direction. Business interests, not national interests, are now driving our system of governance from the top to the very bottom.
And as these interests directly meet the interests of the current ‘leadership’, all’s right with the world.
I second your appreciation for the front-page post, as well.
If you want to know why the trade union movement died, look at rump Lane Kirkland types like Dhinmi. That is probably why he is so sensitive to conspiracy theories. I do believe they are plants.

I despise bullies and abusive personalities and they do tend to stand out on political blogs. DH is the worst of the lot on DK. I deeply and genuinely loathe him and have no respect for or trust in the men and women who enable him. none.
Without trying to get into the potential merits or flaws of the Bev Harris analysis, is it possible that at least some of these logs are only reflecting results from Florida’s early voting process? Or has that been fully accounted for separately? I recall that there were widely reported instances of problems and glitches regarding early voting in, among other places, Palm Beach County.
That’s a relly good question. I hadn’t thought of that.
Another possibility is that the clock on the internal PC was just set wrong. Take a look at your machine and see if it has the right day and time.
Newer machines that are hooked to the internet can sync their time automatically, but I doubt voting machines have this capability.
Even if is just an oversight, if these were paper ballots and had such glaring defects they would probably be disallowed.
I don’t have enough info to assess this.
But she is claiming that the logs show the accurate times for the Logic and Accuracy tests.
The implication seems to be that the clocks were accurate two weeks before the election, so why would they be skewed on election day?
I really don’t know if she is onto something or not, but the machines clearly should have accurate time stamping.
I recall all the fervor leading up to the 2004 election. I gave money to BBV after reading about the troubles with these untracable vote changing methods with the flawed eVoting machines. And then there was this all out attack in calling Bev Harris some kind of loonie crazy person right after the election when it was apparent that there was in fact a whole shitload of fraud in one way or another. I hadn’t heard from her since until now. Looks like she’s been hard at work crunching numbers and fighting the man. Awesome.
And then there was this all out attack in calling Bev Harris some kind of loonie crazy person right after the election when it was apparent that there was in fact a whole shitload of fraud in one way or another.
Yes. I find these attacks, their origins and the passionate viciousness of them…curious. I’m unable to reconcile the clear and obvious refusal to even consider the evidence she brings foward and the attacks on not just her character but the characters of those who are willing to consider the possibilities of her evidence from Dem operatives with the notion that they want to win elections or foster dialogue.
Imo, the whole business of Bev bashing was very much related to the “popularity contest” nature of ALL liberal blogs (hey, don’t mess with me, I have lots of screenname friends who will come in here and beat you up if you do). I was on DU when Bev turned from Hero to Heretic (let the collective blog-bang begin, let the defamation of character begin, let Benjamin’s Rule be broken [i.e., if all else fails, just tell her she needs to see a shrink], let the hero fall, we’ve got a replacement all lined up here).
After the fallout b/w BBV and DU, there was a fallout b/w Bev Harris and Andy Stephenson, who subsequently fell ill and actually died. I’d long since stepped out of the fray by then, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Bev Harris was also accused of actually contributing to Andy Stephenson’s death. All these personal spats and catfights continue to this day to obscure the issues and the work BBV is doing. To all of our detriment.
As far as I could see, what it boiled down to was your standard, garden-variety blog-bang: people blindly taking sides in a Ms/Mr. Liberal Bloghero of the Month Contest, and accordingly, taking stabs, ripping the shit out of Bev Harris and elevating Andy Stephenson to Godlike status. Who knows? Even Andy might have lived long enough to be dumped into the dustbin of Liberal Blog History–though it’s highly unlikely: seems it’s easier to characterize women as “hysterical” than it is men (you rarely see Benjamin’s law broken with regard to men).
Personally, I can’t imagine having been at “groundzero” in those days immediately following the election–anyone, regardless of their degree of “emotional stability”, no matter how “well-adjusted” they may or may not have been, would have been confronted with an extremely stressful situation. For christ’s sake, I was freaked out just watching the story unfold on DU and elsewhere. I cannot imagine the shape I’d have been in if I’d been dumpster diving for poll tapes, as Bev Harris and her crew were.
I wonder why in this diary the reference is to Bev Harris’s “claims”–looks to me like what is being presented here are the “results of her research” in a report.
Is this a claim, or is it de fact what the logs show?
Is this a “claim” or is it a statement of fact?
Again, is this a “claim” or is it the report of a “finding”, as the author has described it: a “find”. This is what she FOUND, it is not a claim.
The conclusions drawn from those findings…well…again, are they “claims” or are they “conclusions” drawn by someone who obviously has a much better grip on this stuff than most of us do (it’s fucking GREEK to me!)?
The issue of electronic vote manipulation is one that either you believe it’s happening or you don’t. There has been so much credible evidence out for so long, that opinions are fairly well established.
I’m convinced and I believe Rep Conyers is too.
Of BH’s rep, or minor imperfections, or data unexplained, the bottom line is simple: Electronic voting should be error free, and easily verifiable. Nothing less is acceptable.
She also diaried it at Daily Kos where DHinMI promptly went on the attack.
DHinM on the attack? I can’t believe it 🙂

Thoroughly predictable. If the election was stolen, their justification for screaming “Move to the right! Go! Don’t stop to think! Right right right! Throw off the women and gays and blacks! Move!” disappears.
And hippies! Ban the hippies! And the vegetarians!
Bev H put up a DKos diary on Diebold and CA the other evening, and DHinMI was right there with a completely insulting first comment (the first of many from him and others). Armando, bless his heart, questioned Bev respectfully on the substance of the diary.
DH mostly seems to live for the delight of jumping all over DKos diarists these days. I wish he’d direct that energy at the Right. He’s as poisonous to the comity over there as anyone has ever been – and there is some stiff competition for that honor in the three-plus years I’ve been reading DKos.
I was heartened to see so many rise to Soj’s defense when he lit into the Muslim cartoon diary a week or so ago.
No matter what other issues some of us here may have with him, Armando’s always been very respectful and rational about the whole vote fraud mess.
Don’t forget to ban the leftwing radicals, either, and to punch Ward Churchill in the face on your way in!
So long as these companies proprietary interests are protected over the public’s interest in transparency, I’m afraid we’re going to be stuck debating questionable anomalies & other fun facts.
…and whining about Democrats losing elections.
Lots of blustering flamewar in there from popular dkos personalities. But I didn’t see any direct attacks on Ms. Harris’ analysis of the data, or the data acquisition and/or reliability of the data. What I saw were a slew of ideological attacks and personal insults against Ms. Harris regardless of the facts. Ms. Harris linked to the raw data. Have a problem with her conclusion? Refute the analysis.
I’m disappointed in the behavior of many in that diary.
I dug up this comment to another post about election fraud with electronic voting machines in Ohio.

I’m convinced the 2004 election was just as tainted as the 2000 election. When we can get all the “inconsistencies” revealed, we will be aghast. (if that word doesn’t slightly imply being pissed off as well as flabergasted somebody help me with a better one.)
outraged?
