First cup of coffee or juice is on the house.
Well, good morning froggybottom and other frogs.
How is everyone on an early Sunday morning.
It’s high 90s here in the mid-afternoon and the sky is a bit hazy from dust.
Good morning. Hope your trip is going well.
Good reminder that as much as I want winter to be over, I really don’t like summer.
Good morning Andi,
So far so good, on a personal level.
Last I was here (about 5 months ago), I mentioned that I am involved in Mine Action activities. We have a large team here and several contractors helping the Sudanese in the north and New Sudan in the south in surveying dangerous areas for mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) – it is a huge territory, Sudan is the largest country in Africa.
This morning, we received reports on two ‘incidents’, in one case with no injury to people. The other case, unfortunately, involved 4 children playing in a mine field with object(s) they found there. They set off an explosion killing an 11 year old boy. Two other young boys were seriously injured and will have life-long handicaps – the fourth escaped with ‘minor’ injuries (this is a preliminary report, a full investigation has commenced).
The destruction we human beings do to each other isn’t shocking any more but it never loses either its sadness or its horror. I admire you so much for your willingness to confront and surmount it on a daily basis.
Thank you, but my involvement is administrative/managerial from HQ-perspective, thus fairly peripheral to what is actually taking place on the ground. Your admiration should go to the guys (mostly, it is a male dominated field, though we have gender-balance policies) who spend weeks at the time in a camp close to nowhere in the bush in dangerous and uncomfortable circumstances. Malaria and other tropical deceases, skirmishes with the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army) and regular bands of bandits and the inherent risk of operating in old battle areas.
I just make some brief visits in the field, then back to NY.
I appreciate your modesty and I have plenty of admiration for everyone who can deal directly with human suffering but I don’t discount the people who do the work of keeping things running — not only because without management nothing happens but also because you get the full view which can be just as hard to deal with as having a close in view.
Beautiful clear blue day here. The birds start chattering before 6:00 these days, which makes morning easier to face. There was a mourning dove in the branch right outside my bedroom window that I tried to ignore until it was apparent that he would be there who-who-whooing for a good long while, so I got up and fed the cats and made coffee.
Mr. Nature heads to Japan on Friday and one of my sisters may fly down here for the weekend in search of some sunshine and warm temps. Hope the weather cooperates because I miss them. She said all she wants to do is sit out on the deck and drink coffee. Sounds good to me.
Hope everyone is recovered from last night. I’m so old and boring now that I bowed out early. Positively geriatric.
Did Mr Nature get an international cell phone for this trip?
(It’s okay. We found you under the table and tucked a pillow under your head and a blanket over you.)
No, but thanks for reminding me to remind him to check it out. Chances are good that he’ll be going to India very soon as well.
I never realized when I joined this little group there were such travelers.
I’ve never been out of the US…unless you count crossing over into Canada from Sault Ste. Marie Michigan for lunch one day.
Sure. Now you’re a world traveler. Did they speak a different language there π
They said “do you want fries with that?” But they had a weird accent. I’ll count that as a different language.
Good Morning Everyone. It appears to be a pretty day here and I’m trying to stop sneezing.
I have two words for you: generic claritin. I think it’s called loratadine.
It happens every morning for about 5 minutes, then gone. It’s more of a bother than anything. But, thanks.
Probably just a billion dust mites crawled into your nose while you slept. Comforting thought. Get a new pillow.
Now I feel much better.:)
Have you seen those TV reports about dust mites in pillows? Yuck. I got everyone in my house a new one and covered them with hypo-allergenic covers, and my asthma has gotten a little better.
Yea, I seen the reports before. My youngest daughter had asthma very bad, so I went through everything I could think of for it. Hypo-allergenic everything.
I replace my pillows and mattress cover every 6 months. The old pillows get added to the doggie corner in the room.
Good Morning. Bad news Indiana — rain will be heading your way. But if you’re like us you’ll need it.
Good morning maryb. I haven’t seen the weather. You were talking to me?
Yeah, the five day forecast shows that Tuesday is the no-rain day. But it hasn’t been that dry here and the ground already fairly muddy.
It’s not that dry here either and hasn’t been. I know during the mid-summer we’ll want rain, but a little less right now would be good.
Good morning everyone!!! Hope everyone has had a fabulous weekend so far.
The Diva dogs are being… well Divas this am. They actually let me sleep in late since I was up till 4 am. LOL I really do hate insomnia but love that the Diva’s recognize when I have had a bad night.
Well I hope you’re feeling OK. We missed you yesterday.
You’ll need extra strong coffee then. And a nap sometime today.
good morning. I also had less than the ideal amount of sleep and canine interference with good REM slumber.
Morning Booman. You’ll need that strong coffee too.
You wouldn’t mind if, in celebration of BT’s birthday, I post that picture of you in your underwear in the cafe tomorrow?
I doubt I will ever be able to suppress that photo. Maybe I can invoke the 1917 Espionage Act or retroactively classify it?
Gotta do that SN.
I’ve ‘heard’ so much about it, but never seen it.
Birthday is March 13 or 14?
Oops, I thought it was tomorrow! I guess I got my Mondays mixed up and it’s the 13th. Whew! Gives me time to procure that picture from DJ.
LOL we can make a t-shirt out of it. LOL
Oh,and you missed one of maryb’s famous parties.
LOL I was in a 5 hour chat with other designers. I missed hanging out in the cafe also.
To bad, I think or maybe. I couldn’t keep up with everybody. It was a lot of fun though.
Good morning. We were all wondering where you disappeared yesterday. We were very brave and managed to be on our best bad behavior, even without your inspiration.
Andi forgot to say that there were precious few LOLs. π
Andi, I am sure you didn’t need me for inspiration. LOL
Don’t tell anybody but when I’m really stuck for something to say, I just go WWRD and voila, instant clever remark.
rotflmao!!!!!
Geroge is demanding to go out and I’ve got to run into town (not city) for a minute. I’ll check back in a minute.
I bet george just wants to go for a ride. LOL
Missouri rain has crossed over into Indiana and is doing rain/snow/ice in Terre Haute. Time to take the dogs for a walk before any yuck gets here.
Rain and snow are okay but ice scares me!!! I hate ice storms.
Thanks for the note to keep the noise level down for those of us on the Left Coast… π
Just up for a few minutes to have a snack and take morning meds — my goal for the day is to get in all four of my antibiotics for once, and I’m supposed to take them with food, probably to avoid tummy upsets.
Spouse got me a very nice watch — nice but not too dressy — and a gift card for Target so I can go shopping; guess I’ll have to head to the Apple Store myself to find iPod speakers for the trip. π
Expecting rain later today — good day to stay indoors and watch the Oscar hoopla. E! channel is actually starting their coverage at 9 freakin’ AM! But it sounds interesting — a sneak peek at what some of the folks will be wearing, including the jewelry. I can watch and tease the spouse about how he has to buy me all the most expensive stuff — and he knows I’m joking because other than earrings, I’m not really a jewelry person — the only ring I wear is my wedding ring, only thing on my wrists is my watch, and I VERY occasionally will wear a necklace if I’m wearing a scoop-necked or V-necked shirt.
Okay, going back to bed for about another hour…
Morning Cali. I just got back. I’m glad you had a nice B’day.
Glad you had a great BDay!!!!
Happy Birthday, Cali! (I missed you yesteday, sorry ’bout that.)
Where’s the coffee? The little hamster wheel in my head was running all night long…and I didn’t get much sleep. Maybe some chocolate would help?
I guess the upside to not being able to sleep is that I’ve already been to Home Depot this morning to get the stuff for today’s fix-it-yourself project.
Morning CG. Sounds like you’ve got a big project ahead. Coffee, did someone say coffee?
No one said coffee — they said nice non-decaffeinated drink suitable for FM.
Thanks you Andi. I’m actually in the withdrawl thing today. We had relatives come in last night, and they drink coffee all day. It’s easier when you can’t smell the coffee.
I think life is much easier for people who can’t smell the coffee. Ignorance is bliss and all that.
Well now you had me think.
I had lived ignorant bliss throughout my journey.
Until I happen upon a pond, filled with looney frog.
That’s probably the deepest thing I’ll say all day. π
On that fine note I will take my leave for a while. Fresh air is calling. Bye, FM.
Bye, enjoy.
Actually, today’s project is already finished…I just hope the bookcase installation goes half as smoothly tomorrow, because I have to study for an exam while that’s going on. Think I’ll be spending some time at the library tomorrow… π
I’ve moved on to Pepsi Lime.
But I told you the names for teh Diva dogs. LOL I didn’t sleep much last night either so I understand.
Just start the coffee IV and you’ll be your chipper self in no time.
LOL I just brought a large pot of fresh java in for all!!! Cream, low fat milk, sugar, and splenda are available for those who don’t drink it black.
I’ll just sit and drink my water. π
Good morning! Happy March Sunday to one & all.
That’s quite a lovely image above — the eye of the Creator, to my mind; the vision of a greater consciousness (not to be at all confused with Intelligent Design).
It’s an absolutely clear, sunny day here in our mountains; the week’s bitter winds have died down & air temperatures are slowly climbing up, predicted to reach the mid ’50s by next weekend.
This could be it for winter in the Catskills, folks — but who knows?
Sorry to post & run yet again, but I’m waitin’ on a call from my dear, down-home mechanic. I’m developing a community reputation for being hard to contact (as well as an utter loon) — but, as I explain, without tv my portal is the internetz.
See y’all soon! Enjoy the day.
All of my favorite people are utter loons. Enjoy the sunshine!
So that’s why I enjoy this place so much. Everybody is a loon like me.
I resemble that remark. LOL
And here I thought it was the cosmic muffin blowing a smoke ring. π
Could be both. π
No dif, as far as I know
π
(Glad you knew I was talking about the cloud & not the juice/coffee — but I guess either one applies.)
Thanks to all for cheerful greetings! You’ve no idea how luscious you all are (despite the fact that some of us, including me, didn’t get our beauty sleep last night.)
And so, to the day .. yawn ..
LOL I don’t think there is enough beauty sleep in the world for me, but I do have plans for a nap later today. I also plan to start back taking my 5-HTP before bed . It seems to help with the insomnia when I remember to take it.
BTW, that song has been in my head all morning.
which one.. muskrat love or my version of it’s a small world?
I think Andi told me they are called earworms. I hate when that happens.
Well, now one of those two will replace, Blue Skies.
LOL!!!
Yesterday at the grocery store I could not get Take Your Time (Do It Right) by the SOS Band out of my head. Oh god, now it’s back in there again.
Morning Indy – don’t you hate when that happens?
Yeah, see this is what happens when you spend your formative years at gay discos — everyone else gets things like It’s A Small World stuck in their heads, but my earworms are always, like, Got To Be Real.
The thought of anyone having spent their formative years in any kind of disco is just too sad for words. I do hope they let you out every now and again for some fresh air and quiet.
Sad? ::blinks incomprehensibly:: No way, lol, I’d do it all over again tomorrow if I could time travel.
So it’s pretty clear that I’m not going to be a role model for the music and partying part of your life.
It’s that part of my life that generates the need for a role model in the first place, catch the hell up, Andi. (I KID!) ;p
Not a chance but I’m willing to help you cruise Cincy for a suitable candidate.
That’s because you’re a good friend.
Now that I’ve finally got Roomie willing to look at middle class neighborhoods (she wouldn’t consider anything but high end places until recently), we’re cooking with gas. We shouldn’t have any problem finding a nice little house to rent in a decent neighborhood. Hopefully we will also have a guest room so I can invite you up soon as we’re settled.
Um, I won’t put any gay discos on the itinerary. ;p (I hope you know I really am just teasing you; I’ve been in Flagstaff for so long I don’t even know what gay bars are like anymore. I suspect it is all hip-hop stuff that I wouldn’t know how to relate to.)
Not only did I know that you were teasing, I knew that I was teasing. π
I’m sure an extra bedroom will be nice to have but it won’t be necessary for me — Cincy is a day trip and even if I stay over, I can stay with my sister or my m-i-l.
When I want to get rid of an earworm, I can always use ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’ — the problem is that I haven’t come up with anything that can kill that song.
There’s a song from Oliver, I can’t remember it now, thank god, but whenever I hear it, it’s with me for days.
ooh ooh ::raises hand and waves it wildly::
I’ll bet it’s ‘Consider Yourself’.
Once you see Hustle and Flow you’ll never get “It’s Hard Out There for a Pimp” out of your head. It’s really catchy.
Sounds really sweet and sentimental.
