Booman posted a diary today called Is 2006 Really 2002, Or Is It Really 1953. At the risk of once again getting people mad at me, I must elaborate a little on the basic mistake of the left in general that is IMPLICIT in this well-meaning diary.
We…”we”, really, because I simply do not share a great many of the presuppositions that many on the left assume to be givens…seem to generally believe that the stated goals of BushCo and related groups are indeed their true purposes.
On the evidence…the evidence of 60+ years of actions and their results…this could not be further from the truth.

Come on out of the looking glass, BooMan, into the light. You speak as if the BushCo goals in Iraq have not been met. They have. A divided Iraq was the reason we went in there in the first place.

“Lose” the war…fine, just so long as no one is left standing who can really organize things in an effective and peaceful manner. I mean, what does “lose the war” really mean, in this context? It REALLY means have the war become too expensive and/or so bad for the local infrastructure that it hurts business (You know, 1/100th of our nuclear capabilities could have “won” every war in which we have been involved over the past 60 years. But it would have been bad for business. VERY bad.)
Ain’t ABOUT “winning wars”. It’s just about doing business.
