GM & HB, MB2004!

Good morning, all, and Happy Birthday MaryB2004.

Things are hopping around the pond. Think I landed a job tonight with a small alternative newspaper. Good stuff. There’s no money, of course, but the work will be appreciated.

And I got a letter from an attorney in Berkeley about a story I wrote. That was nice.

I went to a talk given by two independent journalists who served their time in Iraq. I asked the one of them, Jeremy Scahill of Democracy Now about kidnapped journalist Jill Carroll… any news, any hope. No news, slim hope…. he knew Margaret Hassan, a CARE worker who was a hostage… she was killed last year.

There is a dull deep sadness that carried with me all evening in advance of the 3rd anniversary of the war on Iraq. Some of the things these two reporters told us tonight are too hard to bear. Had to leave the auditorium when it came to Fallujah and violations of the Geneva Conventions, something I wrote about last year…. but I needed to leave to smoke a cigarette, use the bathroom, look through the leaflets on tables… basically I just needed not to be there when he talked about white phosphorus.

But don’t get me wrong, I’m not in a down mood. I am in a very good mood. But that’s just me and my life…. not the sadness of this situation…. that I believe we are coming out of…. really do.

Ok, maybe 12 hours.

The ice water did some good as now my head is not in danger of exploding and it froze out any bad thoughts I was having that the happy pills hadn’t already taken care of.

What a night. The concert was great! Seeing kids who are fighting to keep their music, art, drama, science clubs due to the Bush rape of our schools. Met a great kid who’se brother is autistic and he was blown away by Wesley. Kid had tears in his eyes…

Oh … and the upper band did a medly of 007 tunes. It was great 🙂

Okay I’ll be back. I swear. Cause I love this place and nothing is gonna make me hide from it.
