Some really good news that I can’t wait to share.  My husband Barry Welsh has been chosen as a Feingold Finalist!!

The last few weeks, Barry and I have been pondering the status of his congressional candidacy.  Tonight on my way home, deep in thought, praying to God to guide me with an unquestionable sign about the campaign, the night was dark and the road curvy and narrow between fields of harvested corn or wheat or soy.  I had my high beams on always trying to be watchful and careful of deer and hitting one.  As I was praying to God for an unquestionable sign, I see two deer ahead, crossing the dip in the road and I slammed on my breaks and
tried to weave in between the deer when ….THUNK! I hit one, I looked back and I couldn’t see anything, nothing in the ditch, and then it hit me, smack between the eyes.  What if that deer had been my pet, someone else’s beloved Fido or Mr. Wiggles?  How could God  love me now???!!!  I had just killed one of His creatures.

I got home (I had cried all the way home) and Barry looked at me with such concern, he thought something dire had happened and I told him about the deer and that I wanted him to help me look for it. So Barry examined the car to see how hard I may have hit it to gauge how far the deer could have gone. We get in the car and me thinking this must be the sign I asked for, why a poor defenseless dear?  We searched the stretch of road where I hit the deer and we could find nothing, no injured, bloody deer carcass we expected to find.  We drove up and then down and backed up and parked and looked, but we could find anything.  We drive home and Barry examined the front of the car where I had hit the deer and my headlights were fine and the car seemed no worse for wear, just two small dents and some chipped paint.  No dead or injured deer and no damage to the car – what did that mean?  We get in and I dry my eyes and I asked Barry how his day went, he said “well I was in Indianapolis to meet with State party people and then to Connersville getting my union printing order in for flyers and .I got a few phone calls on the answering machine, one from someone from Senator Feingolds staff asking me to call back.”

I screamed “Why were Russ Feingold’s staff calling you?”

Barry explained that Senator Feingold had a goal of helping 10 well qualified congressional candidates by recognizing them on his website and thru communications that one would eventually get picked to reward,  WOW – I was tempted to say, are you SURE that it was Russ Feingold – THE Senator?? But I knew better than that.

So here I was earlier feeling such despair with the deer crisis, to now, and Barry having been called by Senator Feingold, not to ask for money, like when most Democratic groups call us, but instead wanting to help Barry!  WOW – I guess when it comes right down to it, you never know what’s around the corner, when you think your at your most discouraged, how quickly one can be refreshed with just a little encouragement.  Maybe there is a message for all Democratic people here?  WE all just need a little encouragement instead of discouragement.  I’m encouraged!

I just couldn’t wait to tell somebody, and I write these without venting them through the campaign, so forgive my rushed rambling.
I will come once and a while to give a different perspective on our campaign.

Here’s Barry’s Website again, he is running here in Indiana’s 6th District,  and thank you for reading my diary.
