No, I think we’ll see the biggest crop of beta testers ever when Windows Vista gets released in January. 🙂
That is, if Microsoft gives people a good reason to switch. The last couple of releases it’s been like, “Um, my computer still runs Word 97 and IE, why should I switch?” for years after the release.
Omir isn’t microsoft shutting down all sort of assistance with thier earlier software. It’s almost like they’re going to make you buy the new stuff just through attrition.
You should try one of the CD-based distributions, like Knoppix or Ubuntu. I put Ubuntu on my laptop, even though I really like Gentoo and use it on all of my other machines, primarily because Ubuntu supports my wireless network card out of the box.
That way you know whether Linux is right for you before you make the big switch.
They keep making noises about dropping support for Windows 98, but last time they announced it so many people who are using it raised such a fuss that they had to continue for a while.
They will eventually have to stop supporting Windows 98. The big question is when.
I have a lot of my stuff in them, but I still need to get the lighting finished, and am holding off on putting anything more in them until that’s done. Plus, I’ve had a lot of work stuff to deal with this week. Hopefully, I’ll finish up by the middle of next week.
I AM denying it. I told you, I don’t kill squirrels. But if they are hurt and dying I do NOT try to save them. I let nature take her course. Same with bunnies.
Actually, I can sorta sympathize. Possibly the worst night of my life was spent trying to keep a litter (?) of newborn rabbits alive when their mom rejected them. Despite my best efforts, they died one by one. I was traumatized. I’d probably do it again, but I just stay away from rabbits now.
On an average day in the summer, my little patch of city property has about 5 permanent bunnies and maybe another 10 transient bunnies in it. They are cute, but they eat everything. So if they are dying I do NOT save them.
Ew. I’ll be remembering this every time I have to call those physicians in the UK for work…and having met these guys, it won’t be a very pretty mental picture.
The mothers of the girls in your school were always saying to their daughters, “why don’t you give that nice Boran2 a chance? He’s going to grow up to be a babe magnet, look at those eyes.”
But we never listen to our mothers when we should.
multipe decades ago. Band release a dozen or so frizbees into the crowd. I’m reading an underground paper in the middle of the floor. A frizbee comes over my shoulder from behind me knocking the paper out of my hands. Half the crowd is laughing at me, ha ha!
Does he still rip the heads off dolls and smash the guitars at the end?
I don’t know if you’d like them, but my favorite bands to see live are The Violent Femmes and The Clumsy Lovers. The Lovers I’d recommend to almost anyone — rock, fiddles, bagpipes, the whole works. They’re from Canada and usually play bars and taverns. They might make it up your way.
They’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love them. I’ve seen them every chance I’ve gotten since the first time in 1984. They lost their original drummer for awhile and weren’t as good, but he’s back now. They can improvise like no one’s business.
24/7 cafe open for business.
Hey bartender, quiet night?
It might seem so now, but wait.
How are you doing Izzy?
I’m doing okay. You? I was just teasing about that quiet thing — I peeked in the last two cafes.
Yea I know. It surprised me how fast they took off.
Those last 2 just flew by…seems quiet now though.
I know what you mean. Before I could 4 everyone and answer a comment, it seemed like we were off on another tangent.
I was so late to happy hour, I didn’t even try to 4 everyone. Oh, the guilt…
I want to get hold of Omir’s 4 machine.
It would save me from carpal tunnel. 🙂
We’ll big the biggest crop of beta testers ever, huh?
All I know is he can count me in.
I hate to get to a cafe late, and it would be so much easier with just the click of one button.
yeah, I’d like one a them thar rube goldberg machines too.

They just recently stopped supporting windows ’95.
OK. I thought it was more than that.
I believe that they are planning on more very soon, probably when Vista comes out. You know, to give one the extra impetus to buy the latest. Ha!
If I can ever get my old computer back up and running again, I think this time I’m going to try Linux with it.

We’ll just have to be the biggest bunch of fournicators ever, then.
Need I say, I’m ready.
It’ll be a fourgy. I can’t wait!
Haven’t heard if you’ve got your bookshelves all finished and set up w/ your books?
I have a lot of my stuff in them, but I still need to get the lighting finished, and am holding off on putting anything more in them until that’s done. Plus, I’ve had a lot of work stuff to deal with this week. Hopefully, I’ll finish up by the middle of next week.
I’m back — and its a whole new cafe. You are breaking my record tonight FM 🙂
One of those unexpected things. 🙂
nuh uh. Talent 🙂
So what have you been up to Mary?
And I was in there giving you a hard time, too. Sorry you missed it.
I didn’t completely miss it, I was lurking while I was working.
Sooo… you’re basically not denying the drugging of squirrels?
I AM denying it. I told you, I don’t kill squirrels. But if they are hurt and dying I do NOT try to save them. I let nature take her course. Same with bunnies.
FINE! I got it. They’re just republicans is all.
Wait just a minute! Bunnies?! You lost me on bunnies, maryb.
On an average day in the summer, my little patch of city property has about 5 permanent bunnies and maybe another 10 transient bunnies in it. They are cute, but they eat everything. So if they are dying I do NOT save them.
I don’t kill them. I just don’t save them.
Did you go out again tonight?
Hey Olivia! I saw your greeting in the last cafe, but it was too loud and jostling to respond properly.
And then I thought I’d come over here to see you too! 🙂
What a crazy night, eh? It was a big flurry of activity it seemed.
Sorry I lost you again. Between the bunny flashbacks and swooning over boran2 I got a little distracted.
Yes, I was just commenting on how nicely shaped his lips are — definite cutie!
Here’s your funny news story of the day. Up to a third of telephone users in the UK make calls in the nude. Most of them are men.
I knew you wanted to know that 🙂
Wow, men nattering naked. I’m surpirsed all the women in the cafe haven’t jumped on that. :p
What do you think I’m busy doing when I’m not hosting? I have a great long distance plan.
I can never surprise you (sigh)
No, no, no! I laughed! Honest! I’m really not a jaded bitch, I just play one on the internet.
Ew. I’ll be remembering this every time I have to call those physicians in the UK for work…and having met these guys, it won’t be a very pretty mental picture.
Just natter about with them. 🙂
pasty, white, naked brits.
what I don’t understand is … it’s cold and damp over there most of the time.
pasty, white, naked brits.
mmmm.
Don’t be talkin’ trash about my people!
OK, I’ll make it up to you. Here’s another one. It’s appropriate for tonight, but I won’t tell you what it is.
num num.
Okay, THAT made me fall over laughing! You and CG are SICK! ahahahaha… cruel of you to make me click the link unawares. I was scared.
Yes we set you up.
Which is odd now that I think about it. Usually it’s just you and me and ej up at this time. CG and FM — you’re up so late!
I’m going to bed in just a minute. I’ll throw up anothe froggy bottom 24/7 and then call it a night.
You should take a real nap more often, you can stay up and play with me and Izzy. and ej if he ever gets back on his late night schedule.
Don’t I count? tears
Me too NDD… 🙁
of course YOU count Olivia, but you’re much better behaved than me and Izzy
Never mind, I take it ALL back!
You guys totally count!
Yes you count. But you usually arrive LATER. This whole night is weird. Must be the moon.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to last much longer…I’m yawning already.
(pout) no, stay up!
:::CG high-fives maryb:::
no, I had some things I had to get done, which still aren’t completely done, but I’m tired of them 🙂
Well sit back and enjoy. Revert back to that ‘Queen of the Slackers’ we have come to know and love. 🙂
I can relate to that! I had to wash some clothes tonight, but I got caught up watching a coupla hockey games and blew it off.
I am so wasted that I’m gonna get up on this table and strip naked…oh forget it. I’m actually sleepy and headed for an early bed time.
you are SUCH a tease
When you get older it’s hard to differentiate, isn’t it?
Who’s older? 😉
Ahhhhh, Ductape. Is that the right answer. 😉
Hey we all saw that cute picture of you earlier…don’t tease us like that! 🙂
Hey, I didn’t see a picture!
It’s in his diary
Wow! I’m swooning!
we’re always having to walk over swooned people in this cafe. If it isn’t you it’s CG. Thank god he didn’t have a beard.
Yep. Otherwise Izzy and I would both be swooning.
Okay, you just ruined the whole thing.
Cute? It’s freaky.
nah, cute. It’s the eyes . . .
Nicely shaped and soft looking 🙂
Really cute! 🙂
Nah. cute, in a “That 70s Show” kind of way…
yeah, too bad you didn’t meet a Demi Moore type woman way back then . . .
No, women shunned me then. Unlike the babe magnet that I am now.
The mothers of the girls in your school were always saying to their daughters, “why don’t you give that nice Boran2 a chance? He’s going to grow up to be a babe magnet, look at those eyes.”
But we never listen to our mothers when we should.
You are too funny!
Wow, I watch a few minutes of ER and you guys bust the doors off the old lounge.
So does Neela have a thing for Ray or what?
Neela just fainted, which means she’s probably pregnant.
Well, now she wants to move out…I’d stay.
Every time the dishes gets dirty and someone spills a marguerita on the rug, we move to a new cafe. I pity the people moving in behind us. 🙂
Here’s hoping everyone is doing well tonight.
Hi Omir. Hell it’s George that gets left behind. He doesn’t mind though, because any unfinished beer he’ll drink.
And a very merry un-birthday” to you.
Actually we need Growth Rate here because he’s the Alice fan.
I love Alice Cooper. Pretties for You was the best.

I’ve never seen him live. I didn’t really like the whole theatrics, but his earlier stuff was great. Now I have the urge to hear Under My Wheels.
I think he’s coming to ND soon, so I was wondering if he’s worth whatever tens of dollars they’ll be asking for a ticket.
MAY 15. Tickets should be cheap for that place. Heard the Animals there once… probably the start of hearing loss.
I think the beginning of my hearing loss was a Who concert I went to.
I saw the Femmes when they opened for the Dead at Buckeye Lake in Ohio. They were fun.
They’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love them. I’ve seen them every chance I’ve gotten since the first time in 1984. They lost their original drummer for awhile and weren’t as good, but he’s back now. They can improvise like no one’s business.
Winnipeg is only about 4 hours drive. Saw more big names there in the olden days than MPLS.
Not familiar at all with those two you named, but sounds like my kind of music, and always fun to run into something new.
Well, the Femmes are an acquired taste maybe, but TCL I recommend without reservation.
24/7 CAFE CLOSED.
24/7 ALL NIGHTER OPENED.
