As I said to FM this morning, Spring is definitely arriving here; it’s only snowing a little.
We’ve had occasional flurries all weekend, but we’re definitely seeing ol’ man Winter’s rear end. Daytime temperatures are staying above freezing, the wild birds are pretty active. Some early green plants & mosses are showing.
Tell me about your lovely weather. (Yes, I’m a weather freak.) Where are you?
Sounds truly heavenly! Can’t wait to see the flowers, myself — it should be about three weeks, unless this year’s blooming season is as weird as winter’s been.
All of my years living in the north I seized on every little sign of spring, just like you’re doing. Now that I live in the south, I just don’t appreciate it like I used to. I used to almost cry with relief when winter was finally over. But we got no real winter here at all this year, so you don’t really notice spring creeping in until you realize all the leaves are on the trees and you’ve already mowed the grass a half dozen times.
I remember the same thing from my time in Asheville — though I’m sure we got a bit more of a winter ‘showing’ there than you do. Apparently though, this year it seems the same — WNC saw little winter. So did we, really — aside of the -20 wind chills & frozen door-locks.
They were in the campaign bus and aides were going in and out handing him different polls and stories from blogs, they specifically mentioned Atrios and Drudge. Santos said something like “I’m supposed to take advice from someone named Atrios?”
Say, you wouldn’t happen to have been awake for the first 20 minutes of the Sopranos, would you? I fell asleep for that part…what happened at the beginning?
The first twenty minutes? Anthony Jr. tried to buy a gun to kill Tony’s uncle Junior. Tony had more dream sequences, Paulie Walnuts robbed a poker game and got kneed in the nuts before sticking a knife in the heart of the man. Not sure what else.
Take a good book, and pat yourself on your back that you’re doing your civic duty.
Lawyers used to be exempt from jury duty around here but they changed that rule so I had it a few months ago. Of course they didn’t pick me. I was empaneled for an insurance case and my firm does some insurance defense work. I was hoping I’d get on a panel for a criminal case because they might actually have picked me for that.
Just depends on the number of cases there are. St. Louis is split into two court jurisdictions for various complicated reasons. I live within St. Louis City proper. You will get called every 3 years without fail, there are so many cases. That’s why they expanded the rolls by adding back lawyers (and police). If I lived one mile away in St. Louis County I would be called maybe once every 15 years.
Probably speaks to the efficiency of the system. I heard something a year or so ago that they were grabbing people outside of WalMarts and making them report for jury duty.
Planned on that. It’s County Court…District?.. so I haven’t a clue what it might be. I’ve never been selected for an actual jury…always get rejected by one of the attys…
Just waiting for spouse to come home — he left earlier this afternoon (as I was on my way back from the workout) to take our old printer that died over to a local high school; they were having an electronics recycling drive, all proceeds to go to help pay for Grad Night. Good cause, and a chance to get rid of the dead printer. He obviously must’ve done some other errands — called to let me know he was on his way home and picking up Baja Fresh since it’s getting a little late for me to be cooking dinner. (Fortunately I had a relatively substantial snack post-workout.)
Spent the afternoon playing one of my newer games, Zoo Tycoon 2 — the company (MacSoft) came out with the patch to help it run smoothly on the new Intel Macs, and it works wonderfully. Also much easier to play on the desktop where I have an actual mouse. 🙂 I think early this week I’ll do some planning on one of my writing projects, so I can work on it this weekend down in SoCal — I’m bringing the laptop with me. 🙂
Wonder if I can get in a quickie ride on the exercise bike before the spouse gets home…
I’m definitely feeling better, thank you! It’s a combination of warming temperatures, birdsong & nettle tea, methinks. Especially the latter — it’s a terrific tonic. You can also eat ’em when they’re young.
Don’t you listen to Rush Limbaugh (who by the way was born and raised in Cape Girardeau Missouri)? East coast liberal elites are the biggest problem this country has.
Any reasonably person would infer that the closer you are to the east coast, the more infected you are. The Mississippi River protects me on the east and the Rocky Mountains protect me on the west.
yes, but this cafe’s almost full so you’d better get all your tumult in quickly. The next cafe is going to be run by Republicans and no fun will be allowed.
Your attention please. For security purposes this cafe is to be evacuated immediately. Please exit by the nearest door and meet in the next cafe where you will check in with your official government sponsor.
NDD —WE’RE LEAVING — YOU MIGHT WANT TO COME OVER TO THE NEW CAFE.
The pond is quiet tonight.
Is anybody awake?
hellooooooooo?
Hey there, maryb.
Indeed, it’s been pretty quiet here today — which reminds me of a koan: if you crack a joke in an empty cafe’, is it still funny?
😉
Hope your weekend’s gone well.
That reminds me of one: if a man says something, and a woman isn’t around to hear it, is he still wrong?
I imagine so.
How are you SN?
Hi WW. How was your weather today? Looking like spring?
I was busy most of today and got to spend some of it outdoors. It was beautiful here today.
I’m in St. Louis. It was sunny and in the high 50’s. Perfect spring weather. The daffodils are blooming and the Forsythia. The “yellow” period.
Here there are tons of forsythia and redbuds. It’s our yellow and purple month.
I need some tumultuous merriment. Any suggestions?
I’m only good at the carousing. Did you watch West Wing?
I watched the first half and then I got sidetracked. Looks like next week they deal with John Spencer’s death?
I forgot that I wanted to watch to see who played Atrios. I of course thought it should be George Clooney.
I had no idea they were going to mention him. He was a dorky little dude shown only from the back for about a half second.
Well if they only had him on for a few seconds, that would be appropriate. Just a quickie spot.
Pardon me, maryb — Atrios? They’re writing in bloggers now?
Apparently. I didn’t see the show so I don’t know how they fit it into the story.
They were in the campaign bus and aides were going in and out handing him different polls and stories from blogs, they specifically mentioned Atrios and Drudge. Santos said something like “I’m supposed to take advice from someone named Atrios?”
Sounds less scary than taking advice from someone named BooMan…
That it does, BooMan.
Frankly, I’d say it depends on which BooMan they refer to.
😉
BooMan has been giving me a lot more advice that I want lately. Mostly it is of the “feed me, walk me, scritch me” variety.
As long as he doesn’t start picking out your clothes or giving you grooming tips you should be okay.
Those Newfs are pretty demanding, huh?
yeah. Extremely demanding. It’s hard to ignore a 130 lb. dog with a deep bass voice who feels you owe him something.
No appeasement?
Say, you wouldn’t happen to have been awake for the first 20 minutes of the Sopranos, would you? I fell asleep for that part…what happened at the beginning?
Yeah, I was awake.
The first twenty minutes? Anthony Jr. tried to buy a gun to kill Tony’s uncle Junior. Tony had more dream sequences, Paulie Walnuts robbed a poker game and got kneed in the nuts before sticking a knife in the heart of the man. Not sure what else.
Yo maryb, and WW-good to see you up and about…on the mend hopefully.
Saw this is the LA TImes today and thought of boran2
slushboarding in NH

clik to enlarge
Peace
Thanks for your good wishes, dada. I’m doin’ fine — especially when I step outdoors.
Speaking of: having just made it through yet another ice-cold winter, that slushboarder looks to me like a bit of a loon!
I think it’s a prerequisite.
Aren’t Loons the state bird in NH?
Peace
Apparently it’s actually the purple finch — a lovely little bird, also with shades.
and it’s always good to think of Boran2. Maybe he’s lurking out there and will come by and appreciate your thought of him.
Hi dada, how are you tonight?
Bushed. May have to call it early tonight…got to get up early and report for jury duty tomorrow…ah well, guess I can always nap there. :{)
Peace
Take a good book, and pat yourself on your back that you’re doing your civic duty.

I’m amazed that I’ve never been called. I’ve been a registered voter since 1984.
I lived in Cleveland until 2002…you think they’d have some court cases to contend with.
That is strange.
Just count your blessings I guess 🙂
Probably speaks to the efficiency of the system. I heard something a year or so ago that they were grabbing people outside of WalMarts and making them report for jury duty.
law and order people shop at walmart …
Seems like a system that isn’t very random. Excludes people who shop at Costco 🙂
Planned on that. It’s County Court…District?.. so I haven’t a clue what it might be. I’ve never been selected for an actual jury…always get rejected by one of the attys…

Guess I forgot to check the recent, and the last FBC ain’t officially closed, so I’ve been commenting to myself over there, like this
Maybe if you’d made comments like that about 6 hours ago it wouldn’t have been the slowest moving FBC in history. 🙂
Hah! Now ya tell me. I’m available for shyster duty most any time, just give a hollar!
🙂
Glad you made it over, NDD.
Happy to see you up and around! You’ve got to be better to be posting up a storm again.
I’m definitely feeling better, thank you! It’s a combination of warming temperatures, birdsong & nettle tea, methinks. Especially the latter — it’s a terrific tonic. You can also eat ’em when they’re young.
I saw you talking to yourself in recent but I’d already done my one nice thing for the day, so I left you there 😉
I take back the nice things I said about you earlier this evening!!!!!!!!
heh
I knew you’d regret it 😉
Does this mean you’re all tapped out until after midnight? I’m not going to make it til then. I’m about ready to call it a night.
Not yet …
BTW where’s Family Man? Is he STILL asleep?
As long as you didn’t reply to yourself it’s prob’ly OK.
Peace
I might have… should I go back and look? Nah…
Hellooooooo???
Yes?
Ha. I knew you were around, just waiting for a shot of jager.
Ha. You’re just sooo smart.
And you’re predictable 🙂
No!
Perhaps!
a diplomat
I was worried my indecisiveness would mark me as a Democrat!
we don’t have any of those here, right!
Did ya have a nice sunset?
I was too busy watching the Pistons lose to NJ tonight, but I’ve got a couple of them saved up 🙂
That’s truly lovely — so serene. Thanks, ej.
no problem, glad you like it 🙂
From where and to whence do you vieweth on that one?
Thanks to the wonder of google maps, I can show you exactly!
link
That’s looking out over the Great Salt Lake.
That’s not as nice in the daytime as it is at sunset.
Well, that’s just where the picture was taken from. It’s more or less the same all the time. Or at least, all the times I was awake and not drunk.
Wait. I was never there for those times. Nevermind.
a liberal elite
Pot meets kettle!
I don’t think so
You’re closer to one of the coasts, you’re clearly more elite than I am.
Dammit! You got me there.
You live in a bigger city though. That has to count for something.
You’re the problem.
Uh, no.
You’re right. I had momentarily forgotten how much I hate America.
If you don’t listen to Rush, how do you know anything?
I’m sorry, my head is filled with non-fascist-approved facts.
well, now you know.
It’s OK, you don’t have to thank me .
squeezed in between the two of you… it’s getting hotter and hotter… LET ME OUT!
you love it …
haha. NDD is in the middle again.
ha on you
now he should be happy 🙂
I assume all of this is part of the ‘tumultuous merriment’ that is encouraged in this cafe?
yes, but this cafe’s almost full so you’d better get all your tumult in quickly. The next cafe is going to be run by Republicans and no fun will be allowed.
