I might need some macro lighting advice from olivia, however. My Coolpix 3200 has portrait features, but not specifically macro settings, at least that I know of.
I think your camera does have a macro setting — called Closeup (under Scene mode). Once you’ve selected that, you should be able to use it on auto or pull up a menu that lets you adjust light settings, ISO, etc. You’ll also be able to use your zoom to get closer to the object. I did a quick search, and found this link:
You’ll have to play with it some I think. Your cameras sounds a lot like mine in terms of size and features…

The problem is that it takes them too long to refresh so you can’t keep up with conversations.
I liked Jim’s picture in the last cafe (or maybe it was the one before, the one with the reflection. I just never got in to say it.
I liked it a lot too (duh). The place where we took that was a natural amphitheter — for some reason, I found being surrounded by white rock to be very comforting.

It was a little too big for that. But there is probably some primal feeling that is set in play in a place where you are protected from any approach but a direct one. And then combine that with the warmth of the rocks (both the warm color and the warmth they reflect) and it’s very peaceful.
You know today it seems like it’s taking a long time for my screen to refresh. Well a long time relative for DSL. So I can see it would seem forever for you.

no, I was more thinking that when they set up the rating system they could have just as easily made a 1 the highest accolade and 4 the lowest. Would have taken less time.
Whichever they decided was the highest, they could have automatically had it on that and if you didn’t agree you could have put something else.
I like the new dKos system — just recommend and troll (I guess troll is there, I’m not a TU there). And really, how many people give 3s,2s or 1s? Especially here? For that matter how many people here actually troll rate — even when its deserved?

I was watching a story on steroid use in baseball earlier — it’s pretty hard to think of tumultuous merriment as a definintion for sport any more.

The Giants are off in Never-Never Land on this one. Heard Larry Baer (sort of the operating manager of the Giants organization) on the radio today; he insisted that the Giants are still planning a big celebration for the day Barry passes the Babe, not-so-many homers from now. Even absent the scandal, it’s hard to know whether he has enough left in him to catch Aaron. Meanwhile, the fans seem pretty lukewarm on the idea of seeing Bonds set any more home run records. Big disconnect coming, even if the investigation doesn’t turn up anything.
I read a theory that he’ll suddenly suffer an injury that will explain why he’s not hitting many home runs? And hence not approaching the record.
I don’t buy it. Bonds won’t be deterred.
Yeah, I think he’s already proved that — in mostly the worst ways possible.
But, leaving aside steroid scandals and Bonds, opening day is NEXT WEEK! That means summer is around the corner.
I love early spring in the woods, especially when the dogwoods flower and make the woods look like they are filled with huge snowflakes suspended in the air.
we were in the high 70’s today — and all the dogwoods popped. No blooms this morning (just buds), blooms everywhere this afternoon.
He’s an odd duck, to be sure. Has a prickly relationship with the press, which I always take to be largely the result of watching his father — Bobby Bonds never had an encounter with a reporter that did him any good. So now that Barry has genuine trouble, he doesn’t have allies in the press, either.
I think me and my massive headache are going to call it a night. Damn, I even beat Andi.

You can take credit other nights but tonight it’s because I had a really irritating day and it takes me a long time to unwind when that happens. However, I think I have finally completely unspooled.

from dinner; walked down the street to the Cafe Del Mar and had a delicious grilled chicken with rice and steamed asparagus, and a glass of sauvignon blanc — then I totally blew the walk by having a dish of Grand Marnier chocolate mousse. Oh well — hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast and only had half the breakfast because I was too excited/nervous about the trip to eat.
Something that occurred to me as I was on the bus (and being flirted with) — if I hadn’t just spent an hour and a half in the air, I would’ve thought I was riding through some of the Silly Con Valley suburbia. Well, there were a few differences; instead of Safeway, there were Von’s Grocery stores, and there were no Long’s Drugs but several Rite-Aids. Other than that, there was a certain amount of suburban sameness.
Oh, and message to Omir and other Northwest folks — I heard from three different people that the best transit system is the one in Seattle! Will have to remember that for when the spouse and I get up there.
Okay, need to go change into PJs — going to try and stay awake for about 15 minutes to see if the spouse calls; I just left him a message on the home answering machine. I think he was considering going to see Will Durst tonight at Rooster T. Feathers comedy club, so if that’s where he is, I won’t get to say good night to him… 🙁 So, I’ll say good night to you folks…good night…
Howdy CS! Sounds like a wonderful dinner! I had a smoked turkey breast sandwich and macaroni and cheese, LOL. Was too exhausted from work to try to cook anything real… that’s my scourge lately in the kitchen… no energy left after work.

Sorry I misse you all, and the previous merriment … I only have been able to pop in sporadically today (work is bearing down fiercely this week!), and by the time I was able to get here, well… you guys drank all the beer and cocktails! Did find a broken pretzel though 🙂
Hope all is well with you folks, and I hope to be able to pop in for a longer, earlier spell this weekend! We had our first big round of severe spring weather move through tonight … was quite dramatic and they blew the tornado sirens for over an hour at one point (everything was well NE of us though). Lots of lightning, noise and RAIN! Things are really starting to pop out of the ground (and no, they’re not the corpses from the old Indian burial ground!) around here and heralding my favorite season of the year … Gardening season!
Oh, and yeah, Mary, this page is tricky for us dial up users… I gotta do something about that, finally. Now y’all know why I’m such a ‘laggard’ posting and keeping up with you folks!
