This picture of a war widow sleeping beside her husband’s casket, breaks my heart (via Susie). I find it far too easy for myself to forget the humanity behind the grusome numbers. This is my own failing. I wish it were not so. What’s on your mind on this very grey (in the East) Friday?
Then I had trouble reading the description below. Then I had to sob for a couple of minutes.
me, too
wow. that’s an amazing photo and caption.
Pink has a new album out and in one song she takes on W…and this part of her lyrics seems to go along with this photo: ‘How do you sleep when the rest of us cry? How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?’
It may be worth a thousand words but I for once am speechless. My son is a vet and I cannot imagine having lost him for these lies. What a collossal waste of life and dreams.
Meanwhile bush the pig sleeps safe beside his wife every night. 2nd Lt. James Cathey martyred by the lies of a very stupid madman.
Let us not forget the service of the Marines and other military that perform these tasks. I watched a mix of 2 young men, an older gentleman, and an older woman that served as the honor guard for my brother-in-law when we buried him in December. With our family in tears, a war going on, and my brother-in-law a veteran of another war a generation ago having fallen from the problems he brought home with him from that war, these young and old had to stand by and maintain through our grief, present the flag to my nephew, not much older then the 2 young lads… so young these men are… that may end up in Iraq themselves.
And how many of these funerals, how many of these grieving families, do they perform these tasks for? How hard is it for them to stand guard over the grieving widow, as her husband would have wanted them to do, and not see their own mother, sister, wife, girlfriend, and their own possible fate?
with this piece, written by Margaret Cho in April of 2004. She concluded the piece with a list of the dead — too damn many more names have been added to that list…
I have a vision…of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, etc., all approaching the Judgement Seat of God, and walking through the gantlet of eyes staring at them…American eyes…Iraqi eyes…Pakistani eyes…Afghani eyes…
Sunflowers for Russ is a new diary asking for folks to donate to the effort to send Russ thanks for his efforts to censure Bush. Even if you can’t contribute, if you have an account, a recommend would be appreciated. The diary is by “willers” and I’m unaffiliated with the campaign…
Lots of incredible pictures on that site. One photo essay of 37 pictures of homeless women is devastating.
