I’m Straight- Modern Lovers
I called this number three times already today
But I, I got scared, I put
It back in place, I put my phone back in place.
I still don’t know if I
should have called up.
Look, just tell me why don’t ya if I’m out of place.
‘Cause here’s your chance to make me feel awkward
And wish that I had
never even called up this place.
I saw you though today walk by with hippie Johnny.
I had to call up and say how I want to take his place.
So this phone call today conerns hippie Johnny.
He’s always stoned, he’s never straight.
I saw you today, you know, walk by with hippie Johnny.
Look, I had to call up and say, I want to take his place.
See he’s stoned, hippie Johnny.
Now get this, I’m straight and I want to take his place.
Now look, I like him too, I like hippie Johnny.
But I’m straight
and I want to take his place.
I said, I’m straight
I said, I’m straight
I’m proud to say
Well I’m straight and I want to take his place.
Now I’ve watched you walk around here.
I’ve watched you meet these
boyfriends, I know, and you tell me how they’re deep.
Look but, if these guys, if they’re really so great,
tell me, why can’t they at least take this place
and take it straight? Why always stoned,
like hippie Johnny is?
I’m straight and I want to take his place.
Oh I’m certainly not stoned, like hippie Johnny is.
I’m straight and I want to take his place.
I said, I’m straight
I said, I’m straight
I’m
I’m straight and I want to take his place
All right you Modern Lovers what do you say?
(I’m straight!)
Tell the world now
(I’m straight!)
I said
(I’m straight!)
Yeah I’m straight and I want to take his place.
I go where I want and I do as I please
Got the freedom to choose
Who I’m going to use
Don’t spy on me ain’t living for free
What’s your address D. H. S. S.
Cos im quite disapointing
Yes im quite disappointing
Quite disappointing, it’s a disease of the neighbourhood
Quite disappointing, north west east and south of here
Quite disappointing, quite disappointing
Quite disappointing, quite disappointing
I don’t need to pretend, ill win in the end
I’ll get my name in the news
And my point of views
Don’t give me your rules cos I’m no fool
I’m out on my own so just leave me alone
Raffi! I’ve just been introduced and I find myself wondering who do conservatives listen to with their kiddies. I mean it, he has a song about organic farming, the evils of consumerism, and he covers a song that says “I’m not gonna study war no more.”
Having said that, I do start to convulse when I hear it and Andrew will dance to Bob Marley!
C’mon, I know I’ve seen Jack Johnson and some other hip folks on your lists…and you’re the person who actually knows who Keller Williams is, aren’t you?

I actually used to see them perform in Madison in people’s basements for after bar parties, and they were always a hoot… you guys are dredging up a lot of good memories with some of your picks on the lists. Thx!
Well it was Madison in the 80’s lol. Believe it or not I was somewhat connected to the band scene, so got to meet lots of fun people through friends. My favorite was to hang out with the guys from Killdozer and the Tar Babies, both bands which have morphed into something so far from the original they’re not even recognizable anymore. ๐
I’ve finally got all the estimates I need (breathe, breathe) and should be able to book, hire and schedule on Mon & Tues. Looks like the moving van will be coming in 3 weeks or less. omg 3 weeks. ๐
My roommate’s too. It always reminds me of her, and it’s funny it came up today because she’s been out of town for a month now and I miss her. My faves are probably Sweetness Follows and Belong.
I hope you’ll post one of those cutie pie pix of Andrew dancing to Bob Marley soon. ๐
I’ve tried to take pictures of him dancing, but it doesn’t turn out right. Today, he did try some new moves, so I’ll have to try to capture those tomorrow!

I hope this is my last FRT from a Friday night skating session until October or November.
These are up now, but not blooming yet… from April 2005.
You can’t see them from this shot, but the blue muscari I posted earlier are keeping these great yellow and red Darwins company. The BEST tulip variety to plant, because they are much longer lived and bloom much longer than the fancy varieties. These should brighten up this gray, dreary day so many of us seem to be having.
If you look in the distance, you can see the lovely Miss Pepa and my legs LOL
Guess so! Not a whit of sun here today… gray, windy and dreary, after a beautiful day on Thursday. Spring is so fickle, but so beautiful as well. I’ve got to dig up some other pics that show off our boulder bed better… you can barely see them in this one.
Aww, SN … hope that’s a good thing. Yeah, our neighborhood is a pretty old one… our house was built in 1902 and the rest of the area is pretty similar. Lots of old houses, trees and tons of character. Best thing is, it’s on the way up and is very diverse ethnically and socio economically, which we very much appreciate. Unlike the stratified pretentiousness of such burbs as West Des Moines and Urbandale… ewwww. We’re staying put here for the long haul.
Thanks MM and Refinish… I hope to get even better pics of this area this year… that was their 1st year in that position, and there’s a lot more going on there. After they were done, the delphiniums came up amidst a bunch of huge pink poppies, and it was something to see. ๐
Thanks, Olivia. Yes we do veggies too, but in the back part of the yard, mostly tomatoes, cucumbers, all sorts of peppers, and a few greens early in the season. We’ve tried broccoli 2 years running and we’ve given up on it… it just bolts and blooms in the hotter months and we never get much from it. ๐
Think we’ll try some other things this year just for fun, but not sure what yet. And yes, basically our whole yard is being slowly converted into a garden, and at this point it’s the front, north side and some of the parking. Anywhere there’s enough sun and decent soil! (Which actually, we have plenty of, fortunately.)

You reminded me how fun they are… about 6 months ago they came through town, and I would have gone but found out after the fact and kicked myself in the ass for not paying better attention!

This quote from today’s Washingting Post tops all my top ten lists. Give it numbers one through twenty. Bush swept up in his own degraded shit storm.
“The former official said Bush erred at the beginning of the [leak] scandal by saying he wanted to get to the bottom of the case and fire any leakers because he implicitly accepted that an illegal leak had occurred. That set the impression that anyone involved must have done something wrong. Now the documents suggest he was involved, and it is hard to argue that nothing wrong was done, the former official said.”

that, as one climbs up out of that canyon, and the weeks turn into months, which turn into years,at intervals during that time you look back and think, OMG I was really down that far? Those thoughts came to me at least the first couple of years on the way up the up-trail.
The process certainly has contributed to my appreciation of life!
Thanks. I know I have a long road ahead of me but feel I am well on my way to full recovery. It is so hard to believe that just a couple of months ago I could not leave my home cause of fear, tears and anxiety.
I will be cleaning house and doing designs. I am also typing this in from my new laptop I finally got set up. LOL I bought a new external hard drive to back up designs. It’s almost time for Real Time w/Bill Maher, so heading out for a bit. Hope to check back later and see who’s up (sleep well, Andi!). Hope you all have a great rest of the evening!

OH baby you’re so vicious…
Second only to that surfing song he wrote…
Me too! Are you familiar with Sally Can’t Dance? We think that’s one of his great unknown albums… lots of good stuff on that one.
No, but I just listened to a little of it on itunes; what lovely cover art!
999?
I must be ancient. Human Sexual Response is a band?
yup.
An ancient band.
No wonder I’m totally unfamiliar with them – I listened to nothing but Sesame Street and Raffi albums from 1980 through roughly 1995.
Not Raffi, oh please, not Raffi…(cringe)
“Baby Beluga”
No eeples and baneenees?
Raffi! I’ve just been introduced and I find myself wondering who do conservatives listen to with their kiddies. I mean it, he has a song about organic farming, the evils of consumerism, and he covers a song that says “I’m not gonna study war no more.”

We were fans of Buckwheat Zydeco (still are) and CBtY loved Trout Fishing in America.
So where’s your totally hip list, SN?
You mean the one loaded with John Denver and Dan Fogelberg hippie peace love music?
C’mon, I know I’ve seen Jack Johnson and some other hip folks on your lists…and you’re the person who actually knows who Keller Williams is, aren’t you?
Here’s the problem…do I have to physically type all ten of them or is there a way to copy and paste it? I’m too damn lazy right now!

I hate moving…except for the part where it gives you an excuse to get rid of stuff you don’t need anymore. ๐
I like the part where you have to buy stuff to furnish the new place. ๐
Nightswimming is one of my favorite REM songs.

Hi TT, I love David Gray. Done with grading papers?
I am never done with grading papers, but I am better organized right now.
Howdy everyone!!!!! I hope you all had a fabulous day!!!! I am loading new cds into my ipod so really don’t have a random list ready. LOL
Do you ever have an unfabulous day? I want some of what you’re having.
mood and energy enhancement, so me too, whatever refinish is having is good for me too.
LOL I just love life and being able to make people smile and think.
Everyday I wake up is a good day!!!!! I let depression and anxiety almost lead me to suicide and will never let that happen again.
yay! Depression survivors unite!!!
Yeppers and I am never going back down that road again. Not saying I won’t still need help now and again but never as desperately as I did.
Good for you Refinish! Can you bottle that and pass it out in the lounge here? Sounds like most have had a ‘challenging’ week, and could sure use some! ๐
LOL I have my down monmenets also but they never last long now. Music and laughter are the best medicines areound and I try and share them when I can.

that you obviously love your work, and you’ve got plenty of it to keep you busy.
From my observations of life it seems like the people who are busy doing what they love have somewhat of an immunity to the “d-virus”!
I might not be immune but I do know how to ask for help when I need it and also take a break- even if only a couple of days. LOL
Did you have a fabulous day?
It was an okay day but it keeps getting better!!!!
Big plans for this w/e?
I will be cleaning house and doing designs. I am also typing this in from my new laptop I finally got set up. LOL I bought a new external hard drive to back up designs. I will be busy with all this stuff and also calling everyone in my precinct that voted in the primary to get them to go vote in the runn off.
Sounds like you’ll still be busy — just busy inside your house! You’re the busiest guy … The Diva Dogs will be happy to have you around.
Are you enjoying the laptop?
The laptop will mainly be for live blogging and travel. I will keep using the desktop the most. LOL
Even though it kind of looks like one! LOL
Just noticed this little guy broke ground today, and should be blooming in a week or so… it’s a fritillaria species, though the variety escapes me right now. Never grows higher than 5″ and is a very odd flower… We planted 2 of their huge cousins (The Crown Imperial types) last fall and I just figured out where they are, cuz they’re breaking ground too!

Hey Cali, nice to see you. Recovered from the big trip yet? Still waiting for those pictures…
and all those who claim that “global warming” and climactic change is a bunch of hooey:
This meeting of the Drowned Rat Society, Left Coast Division, will now come to order…we’ve had so much rain, even the spouse is getting grouchy… ๐
How did you get that picture of my cat?!
ROFLMAO!! How on earth did you get that cat to pose so perfectly? That almost made me do a DJ snort! Thanks for the ear to ear smile you just gave me, Cali.

I love them also. I was a floral designer for 15 years or more. LOL
These were easier to locate than I thought! D’oh, why did I not think earlier to go to my stored web pages to find what I want?
molucella laetris, better known as Bells of Ireland.
I will have to get my mom to send pictures of all her flowers later in the year to share. She loves flowers and now that she lives beside my brother she makes him disc up more flower beds each year. LOL
I could see all your flower pictures.
YAY Andi! So glad you’re reconnected, so to speak. ๐ Has the weather calmed down a bit out your way tonight?
all the warning and watches are over.
I didn’t want to have to turn in my “assignment” late!
are you waiting for tonight?
You going to post them in this one?
next, think you can hold out?
on how long I have to wait before CG opens the next one.
Or I guess I could go open one myself.
so not sure she’s around at the moment
Good to hear that! You and Jim have a great night!
Hey Miss Andi!!!!!!
Have another busy day today? I’m sure you’ve already said somewhere in here but I’m doing a reverse-playboy and only looking at the pictures, not reading.
That’s a full Playboy. But of course you knew that.
Wow a front-pager! And I can say I knew you before all that fame and glory.
I’m not too big to open an all-nighter for you little people. Is someone else in the process?
I was just going to go do it so NDD could post his pictures. So you can just stay here and be a diva till I get back.
Oops i just did.
ROTFLMAO!!!!! I am always busy but love it so much.
Political doings this weekend?
And did you ever get that laptop out of its box?
I got it out and even used it to post one comment tonigh. The desk top is still much faster and I love fast internet. LOL
It’s almost time for Real Time w/Bill Maher, so heading out for a bit. Hope to check back later and see who’s up (sleep well, Andi!). Hope you all have a great rest of the evening!
I have been up since 3 am and need some sleep. I will check in tomorrow.
you will wake up from a deep sleep, refreshed, with new T-shirt images…
