Holy Indiana Woods! I can’t believe my eyes! Hey there Andi… just as I prepare to bail, you show up. That was your plan all along eh? Nice to see ya as I fly out the door here…
Yes, I feel okay about it since there are lots of things on the plus side such as only 30 hours per week (with no lunch, I hate lunch at work since I never eat, it’s just a waste of time) and a short commute, decent salary… we really need the money. thanks for the cute balloons and bubbly!
trepidation can come later, if need be. At least, as Manny said, you’ll have the cushion of a paycheck if you need to be looking elsewhere in the meanwhile.
Hope you’re happy you’ve at least come to a decision … approach it with an open mind and it may just surprise you. Ya never know!
Thanks, AndiF…. yes it could be part of a transition into consulting, though a friend of mine who is a fundraising consultant warned me that it’s a tough road. She says she couldn’t afford if her husband wasn’t making good money. People are really stingy about paying consultants, etc. Well…. I’m still working on a couple of clients, a music education organization and a non-profit publishing house and we will see what develops. Meanwhile pay the bills, buy groceries, all that good stuff.
Sun is long gone. I was watching GG and then Veronica Mars and at the same time working on something. Gotta fit five days of work into three days this week.
I’ve only seen Veronica Mars a couple of times so I was totally confused, but I liked it anyway. I was busy on something else so I was only giving it half my attention, so that was part of the problem.
At least it’s on a lake. You can pretend you’re in Voyagers. And the combination of the lodge name and a bunch of lawyers will offer all sorts of opportunities to use Thoreau’s trout in the milk quote until everybody is ready to kill the next person who says it.
I actually think it looks beautiful. The Ozarks ARE beautiful (despite being John Ashcroft land). I just wish I was going with different people. And I wish most of my time wasn’t going to be taken up with meetings and I could go fishing or hiking or something.
I’m perhaps jealous of my sister who is a consultant for Deloitte and goes to Nemacolin every year for her retreat. 2 spa services included 🙂
But other than that I wouldn’t want her life.
I’m reading the packet they gave us today to figure out what to take. And I’m laughing because they felt it necessary to tell us that lawyers are a demanding audience and are hard to please.
The thought processes that facilitate consensus building, learning and relationship building in retreat settings do not come naturally to most lawyers.
It already looks like they expect us to rebel against the TEAM building stuff.
I’ve done two of this kind of retreats (one with academics — a much more vicious group than lawyers) and I hate them. I’m much too cranky, snotty and cynical to be a good fodder but I do manage to feel guilty about it.
Need to get some more food in me and see how C’s day was at the insanity shop. Probably will stop back in after Jon Stewart to see who’s still up and carousing (eh, Mary, would that be you??)
Enjoy the ice cream and sunset Manny, Olivia, your hockey puckers, and FM your nappage. Catch y’all later!
You’re funny today … 😛 Yes, tell him thanks. Please. Although, i was just over at the b and he’s read my thank you … and I left another one … oh, what the hell, thank him a few more times! 🙂
No, but they went to the 2nd home game when they lost to Dallas…he really wanted to be there for the sweep. Not working out very well in this series. I think he underrated Ana too.
they picked up the slash fri…still have some relatively minor pruning and clean-up to do, but it won’t generate the debris that the big one did, and there’s no urgency.
Going to start some new planting and seeding this wkend, weather permitting.
Now that sounds like a plan! Looks like we’ll be doing essentially the same thing planned… though we have neighborhood “Scrub Day” to get done early Sat. morning before we can do anything else … but we have major planting to get done too, both plants and seeds. And I want to go get just a few more plants tomorrow night after we get off work. It’s an addiction ya know.
Sorry about your loss dada… I may not fully understand it, but I can empathize.
Well, DUH… I’ve been trying to figure out for days who this “SIL” person was… acronymically challenged brain here just had a revelation.
I forget how volatile your climate is dada… hopefully I can help you enjoy the planting season vicariously as soon as we get stuff in and I can get back on the regular pic taking regimen.
My brain is a bit overloaded right now with sadness to see that yet another fine dog has passed. I was just over to the open thread reading about Greyhawk’s dog and am still very teary-eyed and sad.
I saw that, thanks. I really should scan some pics of her, because she was a very unique and special dog (half Cardigan Corgi, half Dalmatian!). I was off writing a comment to Greyhawk when you posted that. This loss of dogs thing has hit me hard for some reason. Well I know the reason: where dogs are concerned I am a real softie and weeper when bad things happen to them or they die.
Anyway, on a lighter note… as I ponderd that “SIL” thing… the other night I thought I had it cracked as “Sports Illustrated” until I figured out, well no… it has to be a person! Silly me. Thx for sentiment though.
I saw that. These things always bring the memories of my old pals flooding back…still miss them all. It saddens me to know that I’ll have to go thru it again w/ Bu. She just turned 6 at the end of
Feb. so we’ve got a lot of time left. I think in another yr. or 2, I’ll get her a companion pup…she’s getting spoiled being an only child…:{)
Also saw your comment to Booman and Greyhawk about your Coco; that’s a beautiful gesture. Thanks for sharing your love.
Guess we’re just a couple of big softees when it comes to dogs…I, for one, am damn proud to be.
When we welcome an animal into our lives. Their lifespan is shorter, so it is inevitable that we will have to experience this pain. But would we want the inverse? I think not … being the first to go, leaving them to an unknown fate. You’re right, these stories do bring back memories … some sad, but mostly happy.
So true, Olivia. At least I know that should something happen to me, Pepa will be well cared for and loved. I guess these recent passings have hit me hard since she is 12 (as of Feb), though still fiery and fiesty as always. I think she’s in it for the long haul. Rolly, on the other hand, turned 14 last November, and is showing definite signs of advanced age. His hearing has gotten really bad, he has very “creaky days” (just like me, lol) and has developed a stubborn streak I’m not accustomed to. But other than that, he’s still the same goofy, sweet dog he’s always been since I’ve known him, and that’s been 9 years now!
only disadvantage is now there are cars lining the street again…a bit too many students sharing houses in this area (near the U) and each of them has a car…makes you appreciate the school breaks and summer when friends can actually park in front of the house…:{)
Yeah, what Olivia said! One door opens, another closes, and yet another opens again. Alfred de Musset said something along those lines, but I’m too lazy to go look it up at this point.
I thought Keith was getting a big kick out of how he reported that tonight… sounded like he took an extra dose of snark pills! You did catch who he named as Worst Person, right? Same asshat BooMan was railing about last night, hehe. That’s our BooMan, way ahead of the curve as usual! I saw that story on several other blogs today, but I saw it here first!
I’m sure one of his many horned minions was, and will dutifully report back to him on it. If you haven’t seen Jon Stewart yet tonight, there’s a repulsive little slug from Fox News as his guest… you can skip that part unless you want to gag and hurl.
Will show some tomorrow. The people at the nursery were really nice. I asked first and they said yes and then I was there for over an hour wandering around like I was in a daze or something. It’s a wierd place because it’s right next to a very busy freeway, so the roar of engines is really loud. I just wonder what the flowers think of that? Well, they still manage to look beautiful and healthy, the little darlings.
You know me, hon. I’m a glutton for punishment. Thx for the explanation… it’s one of the puns you had to be there to understand, lol. Kind of like a little sign I used to see on the door of an odd video store I went to when I lived in FL. It read: “No Smoking Allowed (or quietly, for that matter).”
This was Coco in June of 95…after several surgeries to try to stop the cancer she had. Her spirit still shone through, I think. Even though she had only about 3 more months to live. Enough said. Olivia, dada, this was the little girl I still miss, but who remains with me in this very room.
I saw the picture first and thought that her spirit came through the photo and then read your comment … You’ve got me crying now. I can see how you would want to keep a piece of her with you. {{{IVG}}}
Thanks. I could go on for hours about how wonderful she was, but we both have to work today, and that can wait. Suffice to say, she saved my life more than I ever saved hers, and she was days away from being put down when I got her. Anyway, now you know who I was talking about. At least we had almost 5 years together, all very very happy ones, and she’s the one who told Pepa all the secrets about being a great dog. It took Pepa a while to catch on at first, but it did sink in. 🙂
I should probably be heading out here. I’ve gotten way too sentimental tonight. But remembering her fondly probably has been good for me in a weird way. 🙂
Thanks for sharing. It’s amazing how these little crazy furry critters can have such an impact on us, isn’t it. Take care and I hope you have sweet dreams. {{{IVG}}} Talk to ya tomorrow!
Many hugz backatcha {{{{Olivia}}}}} that’s a little unbalanced hug, but hope you don’t mind. Thanks for indulging my weepy dog lovin self a bit. I feel better. And having Coco in here for a little bit has reminded me how much she always made me smile. Ok, gotta get to bed. Here I am, closing down the lounge, once again! MM is gonna give me major fits on that, LOL!
Wow, I can’t believe I’m the first one here? Must be a hulloosabination!
Hello/Goodbye – I’ll bid everyone a good night. I’ve got some serious sleep to catch up on.
Everyone have a good night.
Sleep well… but one question… I never did get back to previous lounge to find out if that snake was a cotton mouth… was it?
FM goes to bed and I show up.
how’s the Tuesday treating you?
Not too bad. How’s your thumb?
Holy Indiana Woods! I can’t believe my eyes! Hey there Andi… just as I prepare to bail, you show up. That was your plan all along eh? Nice to see ya as I fly out the door here…
watching tv and the book I was reading. That makes the high point of my social life for the week.
thanks for asking. It’s a resilient bugger.
(i have no idea where the british accent just came from)
What is Hookah?
above in the cafe diary is a hookah. It’s used to smoke flavoured tobacco. here’s the wiki entry.
Well, ..I can’t really say what I want to but..I guess my relatives can learn to smoke “other legal substances” in those devices.
I thought I was replying to the thumb question comment. Apparently not :o)
well I thought hookah was a tobacco…
tobacco is called shisha (now I’m confused, lol)
well the other day I saw a post with a brown substance and it said hookah??
Update: Said yes to the jobber. Start date 5/22. Thought it best to err on the side of caution, all things considered!
if things don’t work out there, you can always do another job search while having the convenience of a paycheck. Hope things work out there for you!
Thanks, Manny! Yep, trying to keep my bases loaded! (To use a sports metaphor….)
Are you feeling good about the decision mm?
Yes, I feel okay about it since there are lots of things on the plus side such as only 30 hours per week (with no lunch, I hate lunch at work since I never eat, it’s just a waste of time) and a short commute, decent salary… we really need the money. thanks for the cute balloons and bubbly!
I know it was a hard decision, so it’s good to hear that you’re happy w/ it! {{{mm}}}
It’s always a relief to have a decision over with… {{{{{{{o}}}}}}}}} Back to you, Flower Photo Guru!
trepidation can come later, if need be. At least, as Manny said, you’ll have the cushion of a paycheck if you need to be looking elsewhere in the meanwhile.
Hope you’re happy you’ve at least come to a decision … approach it with an open mind and it may just surprise you. Ya never know!
and I hope it turns out really well — a nice place to work that gives you time to develop your consulting into a full time job.
I feel a case of lazies coming on, so much for the grocery run.
Do you have enough ice cream to last you tonight? Gotta keep your priorities straight, you know…
I can’t eat too much in one sitting so I’ll have just enough to satisfy the chocolate craving attack.
Well, in that case… you’re all set to laze away. FM would be proud of ya… if he hadn’t run off to the chicken coop to turn in for the night. 🙂
Here, I’ll share … it’s not ice cream though …
I’ll just plop that heart in the middle of my rocky road scoop. It won’t go to waste, you can be sure of that 🙂
Hey everybody. What’s up?
How’s it going down there… real nice weather up here… still low 70s at this hour!
Same here. It was rainy this morning but cleared up real nice this afternoon. Last night it was 50, which is great sleeping weather.
relaxing on my porch, watching the sun set. u?
Sun is long gone. I was watching GG and then Veronica Mars and at the same time working on something. Gotta fit five days of work into three days this week.
Full tilt bummer.
Veronica, OTOH, I did not see any of that end coming at all.
too specific yet because Izzy hasn’t seen it.
But I agree, end of GG was a total bummer.
I’ve only seen Veronica Mars a couple of times so I was totally confused, but I liked it anyway. I was busy on something else so I was only giving it half my attention, so that was part of the problem.
VM is a really well done show. Excellent writing and acting. And very nifty plotting.
Is your retreat going to be held somewhere interesting?
no
link
We’re not big enough to go to a fun retreat place. You know, one with a spa.
Well then you are going somewhere interesting — you’re just being deprived on enjoying it. That ought to be a good morale builder.

Looks lovely, though.
What, you don’t watch the sexy ladies on Pepper Dennis?
no, but I wish I had a name like “Pepper Denis”. Think of the doors it would open.
Personally, it sounds like a porn-star like..Pepper Dennis meets the KC Royals…
Need to get some more food in me and see how C’s day was at the insanity shop. Probably will stop back in after Jon Stewart to see who’s still up and carousing (eh, Mary, would that be you??)
Enjoy the ice cream and sunset Manny, Olivia, your hockey puckers, and FM your nappage. Catch y’all later!
How are you doing tonight?
I’m doing good. I feel asleep when I got home, so feel kinda groggy but I’m coming around now. 🙂 How ’bout you?
btw, is Jim handy — if so, tell him thanks! His explanation is very helpful and I’m looking forward to trying it out.
Jim is moderately handy but he’s no mr fixit. Should I go ahead and tell him thanks? 😉
You’re funny today … 😛 Yes, tell him thanks. Please. Although, i was just over at the b and he’s read my thank you … and I left another one … oh, what the hell, thank him a few more times! 🙂
very well thanked. (Just between you and me — you don’t have to thank him; he loves talking about the camera so you’re doing him a favor.)
g’night Andi
for some reason. Outshot 13 – 23 in 3rd. and ot…:{(
Absolutely amazing. That one’s gotta hurt d — they were so close to turning the whole thing around.
… b/c I now know how heartbreaking that is … :/
I think I’d rather my 9×7, and then I can cry in my basement and have access to my chocolate stash …
No, but they went to the 2nd home game when they lost to Dallas…he really wanted to be there for the sweep. Not working out very well in this series. I think he underrated Ana too.
Changing topics — did you get all your scrub cleared away?
they picked up the slash fri…still have some relatively minor pruning and clean-up to do, but it won’t generate the debris that the big one did, and there’s no urgency.

Rehi Olivia up there!
I like to see them win, but I don’t suffer when they don’t. :{)
Planting this wkend could be pushing it, but it’s just going to be seeds and spring bulbs. Pos. sub=freezing lows forecast for next several days.
Spring’s volatile here, fall is usually more benign.
would save me a lot in chocolate … for crisis management etc. 🙂
Well, DUH… I’ve been trying to figure out for days who this “SIL” person was… acronymically challenged brain here just had a revelation.

About Coco … that is really lovely IVG.
Oh, and if you don’t know, just ask. I certainly wouldn’t want you to feel ‘left out’ … ;o)
I saw that, thanks. I really should scan some pics of her, because she was a very unique and special dog (half Cardigan Corgi, half Dalmatian!). Softie? ME??? LOL… see my comment to Olivia just above yours.
Me too, DAMNED proud! I may be a misanthropic human, but where dogs are concerned… that goes out the window.

Yeah, what Olivia said! One door opens, another closes, and yet another opens again. Alfred de Musset said something along those lines, but I’m too lazy to go look it up at this point.
Catch you tomorrow, no doubt, Andi!

I think I’m gonna go for a walk, cya all later.
Bye, manny. Have a nice walk!
I’ll prob be gone when you get back…I’m beat tonight.
Hi maryb! How was your day?
Good but very busy.
The highlight of the day was lunch. It was somebody’s birthday so we all went out for Greek food to celebrate.
Enjoying the last days of your freedom?
Last days of freedom! LOL. That’s what it feels like. But it won’t be so bad, I hope. I’ll have my mornings….. {-) BRB my son needs the computer.
My son wanted to see the Frank Caliendo (sp?) clip that (I think it was) DamnitJanet posted earlier. ROFLMAO!!!
http://redbalcony.com/?p=367
Anyhoo…. glad you had a busy (and hopefully “productive”) day and a yummy Greek lunch, maryb.
I’m watching KO. Earlier, when he was talking about Nine Fingers and Foggo it was getting kind of surrealistic.
Yes, I did notice that! Go BooMan! There is also something about it up on Raw Story.
Extra dose of snark pills! LOL! He definitely enjoyed the “here kitty kitty kitty” bit! I hope BO was watching!
I’m sure one of his many horned minions was, and will dutifully report back to him on it. If you haven’t seen Jon Stewart yet tonight, there’s a repulsive little slug from Fox News as his guest… you can skip that part unless you want to gag and hurl.
Grrrr………… 🙂
I think I got some olivia-worthy shots at the Ultra Green nursery today!
You take gorgeous photos! Can’t wait to see … 🙂
Will show some tomorrow.
What’s the Oblong thing? LOL
Rehi, MM, Mary, Manny, dada, Olivia … did I miss anyone in the Walton Family? If so, smack me.
That was for AndiF, even though I know she went to bed already. Last time I asked if anyone was still around she said she was oblong.
So? I don’t get it.
It took me a time or two to figure that one out too.
Hardehar har!!!! Nope, I don’t think I would of figured that one out, IVG!
Well, I’m going to hit the sack. See youse guys tomorrow!
See you soon, MM! Looking forward to your petaled friends tomorrow! Sleep well, and glad to hear you finally got that decision off your back!
This was Coco in June of 95…after several surgeries to try to stop the cancer she had. Her spirit still shone through, I think. Even though she had only about 3 more months to live. Enough said. Olivia, dada, this was the little girl I still miss, but who remains with me in this very room.
