So, it appears this is pissy adolescent maneuvers week in the executive branch. First, drawing up that list Pelosi demanded only to classify it so she couldn’t see it, then refusing security clearance to the NSA investigators to shut down their investigation, now Homeland Security is launching investigations into directors who dare make fictional films that are percieved to be critical of the administration.
Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly could be forced to miss the Cannes Film Festival because his passport is being reviewed by the US Government. Homeland Security is investigating 31-year-old Kelly, reportedly because there is a James Kelly on the terrorist watch list.
…
The Virginia-born writer/director fears the issue could be connected to the plot of his new movie, which is in part about security measures taken by the Us Government following 9/11. He says, “The paranoid conspiracy freak inside me is starting to think this has something to do with the film.”
Does Homeland Security have nothing better to do then get payback on an American director who may give, god forbid, a bunch of French film snobs* a chance to reward film critical of their policies. You know, like inspect cargo containers or something?
