Because I’m not a snake-handling moron?
Because when they all get together it smells like a sewer
Like Steve Gilliard says, why bother supporting a party that supports shines like Swann, Blackwell and Steele.
Because I have three things which make it impossible: a head, a heart and opposable thumbs.
Good god boo that question would almost make me want to do a diary for the first time…but a short answer might be because repubs are against values not for them..they are anti-union, anti-gay, anti-women, anti-health care, anti-minimum wage raising, anti-civil rights, anti-peace,anti-roe/wade, anti-immigration and so on to any values that are true human values or that value humans.
Their entire agenda is anti-American to me and besides that they all just seem to be sleazy slime-ball corrupt fuck-ups of the highest order.
There is one thing that Republicans are for:
Themselves.
Theirs is a philosophy of “I got mine and to hell with the rest of you.”
This explains the smarter-greedy part of the party, but there is another part. The other part is made up of people who hate! They hate others either because these others are just different from them, or they blame these others for their personal troubles!
Suffice it to say that repubs are really the party that cannot get along long-term, not the dems. This is so becasue hate has no boundaries and greed does not either!
Because I want to continue to be able to sleep at night.
Because I want to be able to wake up in the morning and face myself in the mirror.
Because some things are more important than power and wealth — like, how they’re used.
Well here’s another way at deciphering the difference between a Democrat and a Republican.
A highly recommend read is Dr. Susan Block’s essay on “Hookergate” At Last, A Scandal we can enjoy” – a hilarious but serious look at the players, the weiners and the buns, the pimps, the hookers, including the media hookers and the johns.
The johns? that’s the American people.
Do read the whole piece.
Only one thing standing in the way: conscience
n 1: motivation deriving logically from ethical or moral principles that govern a person’s thoughts and actions [syn: scruples, moral sense, sense of right and wrong]
Peace
I’m not a Republican for the same reason that I’m not excited by the idea of smacking myself in the face with a hammer: what for?
There are many reasons I am not a Repugnant. The primary reason is I actually learned some things in my youth and remembered them from church. You are supposed to take care of your fellow man. That means you fight for his or her rights, well being, health and education. You do not judge someone by the amount of money they make, the car they drive, or the neighborhood they live in. You work for the public good to make even the worst neighborhoods better and help people improve their lot in life. You share the good things in life with the less fortunate. You strive to make it so there are fewer and fewer less fortunate every year if you can. You respect your elders and make sure they are taken care of after working many years to provide for others. You claim a future for children by improving education and making each year a better year for the young than you had as a youth.
I am anything but a religious person but I learned values and those values make it impossible for me to belong to a party that would leave a child to starve while a corporation gets a tax break. I can not watch poor children lose opportunities to a better education because a elected official is more concerned with his property taxes than with educated all children. I can not stand back and watch senior citizens who have given so much to America lose their medical benefits and die from not receiving their medications. I can not watch a party destroy every civil liberty which was fought for with blood and tears of American Heroes.
Integrity issues.
They said they could help me shed mine, but it’s too damned ingrained in my persona so they decided to pass on by.
I’m not? A what, now?
Republicans mean nothing to me.
short and sweet
I have a sense of empathy.
I want to leave this world a better place than when I arrived.
And everything everyone else said so far, too.
Let me count the ways….
Bleeding Heart Liberal because I have blood running through my veins.
Because I don’t lie very well. Because I’m not out just to benefit myself. Because I care about the environment. Because I want people to have bankruptcy protection, health insurance, appropriate retirement benefits and no war. Because.
I refuse to hate myself starting with my conception okay?!
Because when I am being selfish, I understand that the fairytale land they are building for themselves is not self sustaining. The more the scales become unbalanced between have and have not, the more likely that our domestic tranquility is jeopardized.
When I’m not being selfish, I want for all of our citizens an equal shot at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; they don’t.
My first reaction is “because even pigs gotta have SOME standards.”
But the fact is that when I think about the things I think we as a people and as a nation should stand for, and the changes we need to make in our society in order to build a world which is, at the least, minimally habitable for humans in fifty or a hundred years — I find today’s Republicans lined up in absolute and implacable opposition to ALL those things.
If, conversely, I wanted a nation which would be remembered as a curse on humanity for the brief few dozen years that humanity could continue to eke out a miserable existence, I would follow precisely the Bush/Rove/Robertson/Falwell plans.
(This is not to say I trust the Democrats’ intents, goals, or characters one whit more than I do the Republicans… but they’re at the very least a helluva lot LESS efficient at bringing about doomsday than the R’s, and only a fool fights in a burning house….)
Because I’m a mother and I believe in liberty and justice for all, as well as a hot meal and a roof over one’s head.
I’m unlikely to get back into the middle class.
What is in the Grand Old Party for me?
Trouble is so few of the poor vote.
Because I agree with JF Kennedy:
Ask not what your country can do for you…but what you can do for your country.
and whoever coined this phrase:
A rising tide raises all boats.
and John Lennon:
