Just saw your reply … I see you skipped over the first part … 😉
So, yes … b/c it’s raining I figured I could work on changing the b some more, get my pix saved and cleaned up, and hopefully get PS installed. I’d like to get it done this w/e.
I’m waiting for when you get PS installed. I know I’ve been able to bring out pictures that I thought nothing could be done for them, and it’s just fun to play around with pictures to see what you can do.
Are you still in DSL la la land? I know it’s cheaper and probably should go back to regular modem, but there’s no going back. 🙂
… I feel stooooopid for not doing it sooner. The first thing I did when it was working was go to all the big graphic sites and watch how fast they loaded. And! I can watch dada’s clips now … 🙂
I’m worried that PS will be another challenge to figure out.
I originally bought PaintShop Pro because it was hundreds of dollars less than PhotoShop and it still had all the features that I wanted. I find it much easier to use than PhtotoShop but I’ve only used PhotoShop on Jim’s mac and I haven’t spent that much time with it.
One reason was the saving of files. The version I used you have to go in and save the picture to jpeg, tiff or what ever you wanted to save it as every time. I couldn’t find a way to save them in the format I wanted to automatically. Plus Paint Shop I just found it easier to use.
Yea it’s funny that one little free program can do just one thing better than these expensive mega programs. But, I’ve found this to be true.
It will probably take you a little time to figure out on your printing of pictures. It never comes out as you see it on the screen, so you’ll waste a little bit of paper and ink until you find the right adjustments.
Only a laser … I wasn’t joking when I said I haven’t printed any of my photos. Yours was the first I’ve taken in to get printed. Are you telling me I’m going to have to buy some other piece of equipment … 🙂
I’ve got an hp printer that only cost around $68 and it prints out very good pictures if I say so myself. Plus I think I said it before that I use the three ring binders with clear sheet protectors as photo albums. This way I can squeeze as many photos as I want onto one sheet or have one 8 x 10. Ironically I use a completely different program from any photo program to do this. 🙂
Yep ink is what kills ya. Used to be my family would want me printing out all sort of family pictures. I finally told them I couldn’t afford the ink anymore and if they wanted a lot of photos printed, then they would have to help out on the ink. Sort of nipped the unending request in the bud, so to speak.
So of all the pictures I have, it only the ones I really like that get printed.
Some stuff I’m sure will be a challenge, but to me it’s usually a lot fun, which offsets the challenge. There’s still stuff on my photo program I don’t understand and I’ve been using it for years, but I decided if I really need the function I don’t understand, I’ll learn it sooner or later.
Scorching hot here in the San Fernando Valley, we had to turn on the AC at noon…. ouch my electricity bill, but….. can’t stand the heat and can’t get out of the kitchen, metaphorically speaking, since I live here.
Just trying to slack off today to make up for the past three days! I have some catching up to do!
Yup, I’m pretty thin skinned when it comes to the heat and it doesn’t help that the AC is on the fritz in my office, so going from a hot office to a hot house in 100 degree heat wears out my short supply of heat tolerance pretty fast! What’s the temp like where you are?
I’m glad you are having some nice autumn weather after those days of heat, must be quite a relief for as long as it lasts. I’m hoping this “heat wave” won’t last all summer, but maybe we will get a break….
The news is good that everyone in our family fared well despite the abysmal news over all for that area. Thanks for asking!
I would love to go to a flower market! I’m really feeling the itch… but it’s just too damn hot out there to go anywhere, so I am consoling myself by reorganizing and cleaning out my photo files which are taking up a galaxy of space on my computer, full of dupes and crap that should have been deleted long ago. Plus I used to use iPhoto before I could figure out how to get the FinePix Viewer program that goes with my camera to work on OS X, and iPhoto is a total crap pain in the ass if you ask me! It automatically makes duplicates and all kind of strange files and puts things in endless subfolders…. much too complicated for me!
I guess it’s all in what you’re used to. I started with FinePix Viewer and it’s made for the un-techno savvy, so I don’t want to have to learn a whole new thing.
Yes, I hope it cools off, but am not counting on it!
The program has one of the worst names in the world. It started out only doing graphic file conversions but over the years more and more functionality has been added on to it. I think the only upgrade I’ve ever paid for is when it went from OS 9 to OS X. You can download it a Version Tracker.
Very happy to hear the good news! A blessing — considering that so many others haven’t been as fortunate. I hope your family’s losses haven’t been too severe.
As for the weather: yep, it’s definitely nice to have returned to September from the middle of August, but I do wish the mercury’d settle down a bit. I haven’t the constitution for this bouncy stuff.
Can’t imagine these mountains are much of a temptation to you, considering — but you might reconsider! I know I would.
😉
I always feel the call of the Catskill Mountains! My sister, who lives in West Point, invited me out there while I was unemployed and believe me I felt tempted. Aside from being a military base which is not really comfy for me, West Point is one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen. Plus I would love to go to Woodstock, even though my creepy father still lives there, and I really don’t want to see him.
How are things going with the move and your crazy landlord? I hate people who cut down trees, they should be put in jail. My neighbor just cut down a beautiful ancient jacaranda, everyone here heard me scream my head off about it. But the tree is gone and nothing, no amount of screaming, can bring it back.
That’s right — once they’re gone, all the tremendous energy that’s gone into their growth & sustenance — and all the sustenance they provide — becomes a moot point, a waste.
It’s terribly sad that people don’t get it. It’s about ownership, not stewardship.
I can’t help wondering what they’d rather look at.
In any case, it’s up to us to do things differently.
As for me, relocation’s moving along slowly, despite setbacks. I’ve made the landlord aware that I may not make the July 1 deadline, but that I’ll do my best to vacate this moldy collander asap. Any more I cannot do, but pray for friendly weather.
I’m doing my best to create a warm, peaceful place in these mountains so that any of my pondmates who wish to, can come into these mountains, set a spell & tell the rest of the world to go hang. Naturally, you’re included! I’ll be a bit northwest of Woodstock, but not far. It’s all lovely here — if it’s allowed to be & not screwed with by dummies.
Thanks so much for the invitation, ww! It would be so great to have a glass of wine and watch the sun set over the Catskills with you!
And I agree about the trees. There are a lot of property owners around here who like cutting them down and it makes me want to….. well, I won’t say what!
It helps me, personally, to look out into the valley here & realize that most of the trees I see will still be fully alive, when those who now cut trees down have passed through. Then, of course, they join the trees in their elements.
As for me: I’ll do what I can to let the pond know how to find me once I’ve gone offline. I’ll be in Delaware County near the PA border, right between the two branches of the big river.
The rumored move has been stalled of late, via combination of very unfriendly weather & grotesque illness. I’m doing my best to take control of what aspects of these I can. The rest I leave to Family Man & his weather mojo.
It’s been raining so hard here for the past few days that I’m sure any bird sign left for the landlord has been washed clean away. It’s kept him away, too — as everyone knows that if it rains on our summer residents, they melt similarly.
Thanks. It took some patience to get it — trying to get Giddy to stop wading around, making ripples, and being generally distracting (you may not have noticed the dog in the picture).
Of course I didn’t — but I have now. Yowza! Giddy becomes Enlightened Canine Bodhissatva Of The Infinite Woodland Pool.
That nirvana just shines from within!
They were pen and ink. Giddy’s picture is just more elaborate. I keep looking for the fish head, hammer, basketball, the letter Q, and a portrait of Ernest Borgnine to no avail.
They are all so wonderful and I keep saying that b/c I don’t have any other words to describe it but I really mean it. I like how the tree in the water looks like it is leading to you. And it looks as if Giddy (is that Giddy?) is saying, “Again with that little box!?”
Good afternoon everyone. Beautiful green pic, Andi.
Took advantage of the coolish weather to visit the garden center and took some more pics. They had 5 or 6 different varieties of jasmine blooming and the breeze smelled heavenly.
he can’t hold a candle to Andrew for sheer cuteness but since I still imagine him with a binky in his mouth and a saggy diaper every time I look at him, he’s pretty cute to me.
Next time I’ll take a picture of my horrendous kitchen with dirty dishes everywhere and spilled catfood and tumbleballs of fur blowing through. Or my lovely dining room which, thanks to having no basement, houses our enormous litter box.
… I’ve really missed you and your wonderful flower photos! These are stunning!!! You’re spoiling us today. I thought of you today when I was at the garden centre today … 🙂
These look absolutely stunning, SN. Wish I could see more than about a third of ’em.
If I keep refreshing, they should show up completely. This happens occasionally — something to do with my pokey browser, I guess.
Shame on you? Feh. I’d like to forget about it too!
As for dreaming of BooMan, let’s just say that it was utterly bizarre. Rather surreally intimate. I’ll spare you the details — but I woke & said to myself, Holy moly, wench, you’re ill!

Puget4 told me that a while back, and I’ve been looking forward to this season to try them! I’ve got a salad recipe — can you imagine how wonderful a salad bowl full of lily blossoms all different colours would look! And I have another baked, stuffed lily blossom recipe — which I can’t wait to spring on unsuspecting visitors hehehe … 🙂
I remember that was another use … After I found out about the lilies I went looking for a site that lists all the edible flowers and it made me swoon for a moment — I had to grasp the idea of eating the flowers that I love, sort of cannibalistic LOL. But then, I started thinking of all the ways you could add flowers to make a meal look and taste good. 🙂
That’s right!
It all looks so great in one’s plate & also awakens folks to what they’re eating. Generally they just shovel it in & don’t pay much attention (which is why, I guess, so many of ’em look that way).
A new clean cafe with plenty of food and drink. Enjoy.
Just saw your reply … I see you skipped over the first part … 😉

take it back and get paint shop pro. I’ve been using it for years and I think it’s a great program.
That’s the one I use Andi. I’ve used both and I like paint shop more.
Hmmmm … why do you like it better?
I originally bought PaintShop Pro because it was hundreds of dollars less than PhotoShop and it still had all the features that I wanted. I find it much easier to use than PhtotoShop but I’ve only used PhotoShop on Jim’s mac and I haven’t spent that much time with it.
So what are you all up to today? Is is raining there?
so as you can guess it isn’t raining. We had storms yesterday, though.
One reason was the saving of files. The version I used you have to go in and save the picture to jpeg, tiff or what ever you wanted to save it as every time. I couldn’t find a way to save them in the format I wanted to automatically. Plus Paint Shop I just found it easier to use.
… that you use a few different programs, b/c they all have specific features.
I’ll have to get it loaded so that I start figuring it out. 🙂
Well only if you want to print out at home. 🙂
Sounds like you have a good system set up … 🙂
Yep ink is what kills ya.
Doesn’t anyone else use Picasa? It’s free and it gets rave reviews from all the magazines. I love it.
Some stuff I’m sure will be a challenge, but to me it’s usually a lot fun, which offsets the challenge. There’s still stuff on my photo program I don’t understand and I’ve been using it for years, but I decided if I really need the function I don’t understand, I’ll learn it sooner or later.
The biggest thing is to slack and have fun. 🙂
… that’s the reason it’s taken me so long to do this! 🙂
Yes you’re learning to follow the slackerly path. 🙂
We’re all following you down the slackerpath.
How are all the little froggies?
Morning MM. I would ask how’re you are doing, but I can see. You’re the same as me, can’t do without the AC.
I read earlier about how it’s going at the new job. I’m happy to hear it’s good so far, and I’m hoping it will continue to be that way.
Yup, I’m pretty thin skinned when it comes to the heat and it doesn’t help that the AC is on the fritz in my office, so going from a hot office to a hot house in 100 degree heat wears out my short supply of heat tolerance pretty fast! What’s the temp like where you are?
At the moment it’s only 87 F. Our cool front is moving out and by Tuesday it will be back up to the 90’s.
I’m more of a 68-70 degrees person. Above that and to me it’s hot.
Now you stay inside, keep cool and slack. 🙂
Will do!
Stay cool over there, I can empathize since I am definitely in the same temp range.
So what’s your overall feeling of the last 3 days … if you could sum it up in one word, what would that word be?
I can see you are trying to help me out with my tendency to be long-winded. LOL! So I guess the one word would be: OKAY.
How are things in your neck of the woods?
I was interested in what word you would come up with … I gather from your word you are still sussing out the situation.
It’s raining today, so I’m stuck inside. But at least I don’t have to water … so I’ve resolved my rain issues. 🙂
Hey there, mythmother. Good to see you.
I’m guessing your weather report indicates that we’re still due for some warm weather here in the East — though today feels like early Autumn.
Bummer.
Any recent news on your family overseas?
I’m glad you are having some nice autumn weather after those days of heat, must be quite a relief for as long as it lasts. I’m hoping this “heat wave” won’t last all summer, but maybe we will get a break….
The news is good that everyone in our family fared well despite the abysmal news over all for that area. Thanks for asking!
Are you about due for a trip to the flower market?
I would love to go to a flower market! I’m really feeling the itch… but it’s just too damn hot out there to go anywhere, so I am consoling myself by reorganizing and cleaning out my photo files which are taking up a galaxy of space on my computer, full of dupes and crap that should have been deleted long ago. Jim uses iPhoto and he likes it. I thought it was kind of clunky.
I hope it cools down soon (I hate hot weather).
I guess it’s all in what you’re used to. I started with FinePix Viewer and it’s made for the un-techno savvy, so I don’t want to have to learn a whole new thing.

I feel the absence of that tree forever.
I know your feelings exactly.
Just butting in the thread to see how the move prep is going. And hoping that birds are still providing an opinion on your landlord.
Hey, Andi — glad to see you!
The rumored move has been stalled of late, via combination of very unfriendly weather & grotesque illness. I’m doing my best to take control of what aspects of these I can. The rest I leave to Family Man & his weather mojo.

Hope you’re having a good weekend so far.
I’ve got to run for a little while. Finish up on the cleaning and laundry. I’ll keep checking back.
Everyone stay cool and enjoy your Saturday.
Thanks to Olivia who has graciously cateogorized my photos.
Wow — that’s lovely! What a beautifully serene image.
This is probably one of my favorite images of yours so far (which is saying quite a bit).
Much as I like that image of her, I’m probably going to keep trying to get a non-dog calm water shot.
I didn’t either. It’s like one of those hidden pictures things in Highlights magazine.
I remember those but I think I remember them as pen and ink drawings.
And it looks as if Giddy (is that Giddy?) is saying, “Again with that little box!?”
and she’s saying “why do you keep going ‘Giddy, no. Giddy stop’?”
Well it worked – maybe the confusion in deciphering your instructions caused her to pause long enough for you to click the picture.
One useful thing is that I can now tell you it takes about three minutes for the ripples left by dog wading through water to dissipate.
Good afternoon everyone. Beautiful green pic, Andi.
Took advantage of the coolish weather to visit the garden center and took some more pics. They had 5 or 6 different varieties of jasmine blooming and the breeze smelled heavenly.
Daylily
Bee on Coneflower
larger
The bee picture is really good but I do have to say that neither is quite as handsome and charming as Colin.
he can’t hold a candle to Andrew for sheer cuteness but since I still imagine him with a binky in his mouth and a saggy diaper every time I look at him, he’s pretty cute to me.
He’s quite a handsome guy, SN. In fact, in all the photos you’ve shared of your kids, they each look beautiful inside & out. No surprise there.
Your place looks great, too! I’m lovin’ that table.
Isn’t that the funniest thing? It’s so unlike me that when I saw it at Goodwill I just had to buy it. It’s so ugly that it’s cute.
Thanks about the kids. I can’t take credit for them, I was just really lucky they turned out so great.
I’d say we’re all lucky that way.
And I’d call that table an excellent Goodwill score!
so I would fret some more about how messy my place is, didn’t you.
Next time I’ll take a picture of my horrendous kitchen with dirty dishes everywhere and spilled catfood and tumbleballs of fur blowing through. Or my lovely dining room which, thanks to having no basement, houses our enormous litter box.
That would make me feel so much better.
… I’ve really missed you and your wonderful flower photos! These are stunning!!! You’re spoiling us today. I thought of you today when I was at the garden centre today … 🙂
Did you walk around shoving everyone out of the way to get your shots like I do? They looooove that! 🙂
It was raining so everything was wet, and I thought the rain would keep people away so it wouldn’t be busy …
I’ll have to remember that though, for next time LOL. 🙂
These look absolutely stunning, SN. Wish I could see more than about a third of ’em.
If I keep refreshing, they should show up completely. This happens occasionally — something to do with my pokey browser, I guess.
Oops, sorry for you dialup folks. How are you feeling this afternoon – any better?
Thanks for asking, my dear. I’m apparently healing, since I’m not asleep right now & dreaming of BooMan.
🙂
Shame on me. I forgot all about your infection. I’m sorry it’s still hanging on.
Is dreaming about BooMan bad or good?
Shame on you? Feh. I’d like to forget about it too!
As for dreaming of BooMan, let’s just say that it was utterly bizarre. Rather surreally intimate. I’ll spare you the details — but I woke & said to myself, Holy moly, wench, you’re ill!
Hmmm, that has an entirely different reading than ‘holy moly, wench, you’re sick‘
Well, ‘sick’ is just the normal state of affairs.
🙂
I’m sorry to hear that your not feeling well … sending good vibes winging your way … {{{ww}}}
Thanks very much, Miss O. Hugs back atcha (with surgical mask in place)!
There’s just to much for me to do under pressure & I just gave out. I’ll be back on the job asap — once the Weather Demons decide to stop messin’ with me.
🙂
Just saw your title, Miss O — & as I seem to be fading into slumber here, we’ll soon see.
See you soon!
🙂
You and Olivia are conspiring to make me look more closely at day lillies more closely.
& I believe most are edible, too, Jim!
Just make sure they haven’t been sprayed with critter-killer.
IIrc, they’re great in an Asian-style stir-fry, too — just toss ’em in at the last minute. They don’t need much cooking, obviously.
Enjoy, Miss O!
Btw, you might toss some young violet leaves into that salad, as long as you’re wildcrafting that meal.
They’re good!
And nasturtiums.
That’s right!
It all looks so great in one’s plate & also awakens folks to what they’re eating. Generally they just shovel it in & don’t pay much attention (which is why, I guess, so many of ’em look that way).
I’m back for awhile. Anybody around?
I’m just going to go open the happy hour lounge. See ya in a few.
🙂
Hi Olivia. I’ll meet you over at Happy Hour.
Toddle on over here.
