Haven’t caught up with last café yet, but let me know if I missed anything earth shattering, hehe. Worked some outside today, but scaled plans way back to just planting some moss rose, snapdragons and other annuals, along with a couple of patches of zinnia seeds. Took quite a few pics, and here’s one I particularly liked.

Back now… just had to get the day’s grime off and soak the aches a bit. Did you get your herbs put in? I meant to plant up a little spot with those seeds, but after sowing a whole bunch of zinnias, I’d had it. Trying to take it easier, 🙂
… only a bit earlier and a lot colder. I was hot and grimy … 🙂 All herbs are in place … didn’t get to the seeds, tomorrow.
So how ya feeling tonight?
Actually pretty blah, but I was up way late last night too! Pretty achy, so I did take it easy on the digging. C got off work early because it was so slow, so he came back and moved several ostrich plume ferns from the North side (they were encroaching on an essential path for the meter reader) to just in front of the porch in the front. We’ll see how soon they take over!
Here’s a view of the Woodland Garden from tonight… look for a lupine in bloom and a semi-hidden Pepa…
Oh, and any clue what the previous flower buds were?

It has the word holly in it, but is not a holly. the species name is maritimum so rev up your latin and you should have it. 🙂

That would be it… eryngium maritimum I think I may have posted an old pic of it blooming, but these this year are gearing up for a fantastic bloom time, and producing lots of little plants I’ve been giving away. This is going to be the year I really capture its ethereal blue haze, I swear.
… but wasn’t sure … I’ve never seen it live — Good hint!

I would be glad to give you several starts of it, if it weren’t for the damn border thing… they are really an unusual plant, not commonly seen around here at least. One of our more esoteric ones, and you know how we like those.
Except that I really like living in Canada. But that would be great. I’d pester you with endless questions and always be hanging out in your garden w/ a camera, calling you salad fingers … 🙂
Careful what you wish for… your garden might end up populated by all sorts of bizarre and unsavory characters! (of the flora variety, I mean)
Oh, forgot to mention… I planted 3 castor seeds today (they’re a year old or so, so I hope at least one comes up). Talk about a comment generator, hehe… those ‘Carmencita’ variety ones are really something.

We love em… always makes people stop and stare, and when they get frosted right around halloween, the leaves look like bats hanging from the limbs, lol. Yes, every part of the plant is poisonous. Though I’ve always wondered what the heck they do to make castor bean oil non-toxic… I got that as a child a few times and it’s nasty.
Whenever you feel like opening a new one is fine by me… dial up is a bit peppier than it was earlier today. Still, gotta get me some DSL…
Sounds like you had a productive day/weekend?
Not as productive as I wanted, but I’m never satisfied with the current state of the garden, lol. Did make significant progress in getting stuff weeded yesterday, but am paying for overdoing it today. It’ll be worth it soon though… so many things are already getting into high bloom mode.
on the last cafe you’ll see that Andi, SN and I are working on getting O to come to Chicago in October for the meetup. I’m now recruiting you for O duty too. 😉

looking like it would work for at least a core group of people. I think we may have convinced SN to come from the south since she’s still a midwesterner at heart. Eventually I’ll do a diary. But I find arm twisting is much better than diarying.

I most likely can make it work for me with advance notice. C is more problematic given Michael’s (retail) scheduling rarely gives us time off together, but I’ll bring it up with him and see if he would be interested. He’s never flown before and having heard all my horror stories about the airlines, doesn’t want to! We would have to get a dog sitter, but that wouldn’t be a problem with having our neighbor right behind us. We’ll see, but I am definitely planning on it if that’s the weekend, unless something unforeseen happens!

Thank you very kindly. I figure taking back my country is serious stuff, but sometimes you just gotta laugh or you’ll burn yourself out. If I can entertain a few other people while I’m at it, that’s all the better.
My sister-in-law’s husband is a real nut. He works as an administrative assistant for a bunch of radiologists, but his real love is clowning and entertaining children. While we actually do occasionally sit around and brainstorm uses for an inflatable bear he found at a garage sale or something equally useless, just as often we work up gags and stunts and tricks for the characters he uses in his clowning and entertaining. It’s a lot of fun watching him do his act — it’s obvious he loves kids and they love him, probably because he’s pretty much just a big kid himself.
Holy crap… I just robo-rated and saw this down there! Heyas Omir! Sorry I missed your entrance… Funny, your queen of the universe does ablutions, whereas the one around here rarely does. She does need a good fur cleaning soon, but I’ll have to do that.
