conscience is forcing me to tell you that the spinach was the only thing available to me for cooking. I really need to go grocery shopping. I need another bottle of wine O:)
but there’s another formula for when it’s time to go to bed — and that’s when the letters sort of skitter across the screen. Which is what mine are doing now so I’m heading off to bed.
There is lots of organizing to do here at the house and about a million people want to hang out with Andrew. In no way was I this popular before the little guy!
How terrible — people suck up to you to get close to Andrew. You are such a truly wonderful, intelligent, and lovely person that I can’t imagine how anyone could do that.
Are you finished with students too, or do you have to go back for a day or two without grades hanging over their heads? We had 4 grade-less days this year and our superintendent bans all field trips and field days during the last week of school.
Cigarettes: Big bucks up in smoke
By now, no rational human would put a cigarette between his lips, so comprehensive are the health arguments against it. Among our three vices, Dr. Kava says, “The biggest threat is going to be smoking, without a doubt.”
While the morbidity rates for cigarettes and cancer grab most of the headlines, Dr. Kava says they only scratch the surface of the toll tobacco takes on the populace.
“The area of concern that I think is not played up enough are the chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases like emphysema,” she says. “That’s sort of hideous, people don’t really have enough breath to do much of anything. As a society, we seem to pay a lot more attention to cancer, but in terms of debilitating diseases, emphysema ranks way up there.”
The problem isn’t the nicotine, she says, although it is addictive and can increase the heart rate and slightly elevate blood pressure; the bigger threats are in the tars and toxins, including carbon monoxide, that get inhaled and absorbed into the bloodstream.
“I would rather see somebody with a lifelong addiction to nicotine use something like the patch or lozenges or nasal sprays with nicotine for the rest of their lives if they can just quit smoking,” she says. “That’s a much better tradeoff for reducing the risk of these very serious diseases. Just about anything is better than smoking tobacco.”
OK, Mr. or Ms. Pack-a-day, here’s your money going up in smoke:
Bankrate average price of a pack of cigarettes: $5
checking radars and only spotty stuff out there. I hope I may yet be surprised later. Guess I’ll go back to the Dog Whisperer for a while and see if conditions improve later.
Big heyas all… for those who may still be up, lol.
lol. Gotta do something about that. Hey there FCH Girl. I know, I’m a whiner about the rain lately. Send it our way if you can 😉
Watched a silly movie earlier that was on IFC… Super Troopers … mindless, tasteless teenage boy humor. Loved it. Not that that’s the normal habitat of my humor, but it fit the mood tonight and was conveniently on when I needed to change the channel from KO!
You wouldn’t believe it … and I don’t really want to talk about it in specifics in this forum, but it was one of those moments that your ‘real’ self emerges in situations that are uncomfortable … let’s just say, when you choose to remove yourself from the sociological group and select ‘other’ … it was extremely uncomfortable — one of the most uncomfortable I’ve experienced — but I’m at peace and happy w/ how I reacted in the situation … that’s what matters in the end.
in the parking lot of the store. Luckily an immigrant gentleman helped me out by jumping the battery and following me back to my complex. Sigh….not what I needed.
the interview that went south? That’s history…wouldn’t take the job if they offered it, and they won’t.
Got rec’d for an off-grid house in the mountains…just got a call from the owner/potential client today. Have to put some info together and set up a meeting…something always comes along…there are 2 things I’ve learned in my prof…the wisdom of an ascetic lifestyle and patience.
Off-grid = totally self contained, not hooked up to any utility ‘grid’…serious energy independent structures…pv, wells, H2O purification systems, active/passive solar.
Something I know a lot about but have only recently…in the past 3-5yrs…found a renewed interest in from clients. I’ve done 3 in that period; 2 in Mexico, 1 in Co.
Nothing like that alternator, car died, nothing I can do feeling. I had a very unpleasant one of those once. But glad to hear you got the wine! How about that Frosty Paws for Bud?
Anyway, hope you’ve uncorked that wine already, amigo.
Hey there dada-O and O-Livia! Just checking in after watching my movie earlier… CG was very good, though the gardening part was a bit on the skimpy side. Rreally liked the visual style of the film a lot and some hot damn gorgeous photography of Kenya. Definitely recommend if you haven’t seen it… and with all my pharma research background it really gave me the willies about trials.
Yes, liked it a lot. 🙂 Mini review above, lol. A bit of rain moving in here, but it’s still spotty and I suspect I’ll be weeding and watering again later today.
See Constant Gardener if you haven’t… it’s a very nifty film, and good politics of course. hehe
was a subtle bribe to someone who I know can’t resist it. The wine is definitely uncorked, but I’m indifferent to it. It’s a 2004 Beaujolais-Villages from France, alittle too dry for my liking but it’ll do for now!
They didn’t have the Frosty Paws for the compadre, I’ll have to check out the local pet store over the weekend. He’s a great friend, knew the second I walked in that I was in a mood. Rather than pounce on me he just sat down, blinked, grunted and licked my kneecap. I almost cooked him a steak to reward his lethal cuteness.
they read. They anticipate your next move. I can’t praise dogs enough. But they are patient (except for Pepa) and kind. Ok, I’ll stop now with the paeon.
Clean cafe. Come on in for free beer.
Thanks, FM, this place is sparkling clean and there’s room to stretch out. Just don’t be a pendejo.
And what have you learned Olivia. 🙂
Just as long as I can comb my mustache. 🙂
and everybody moves to a new cafe and leaves you behind. But I found you! Hah!
You would get along splendidly with Mr. Nature. He just watched that too.
there’s more to getting along than shared tv shows. But I commend his good taste.
I forgot it was on tonight. How was it?
and change out of your superhero uniform, froggybottom.
(it was fine)
Will someone please separate me from this bag of Hershey kisses?
I’m eating a bowl of steamed spinach with onions mixed in. Wanna trade?
I’m finishing up a giant bowl of ice cream. 🙂
What have you done with Family Man!
I’m back. When you become the frog, you are one with the frog. Don’t know what the hell it means, but it sounded good. 🙂
Vanilla covered in chocolate/fudge magic shell. Aaaah. 🙂
Although magic shell sounds more interesting than yummy … 🙂
Magic shell is more interesting than it is yummy.
Admit it, you just really like how you look in the frog suit.
Well it does emphasize certain of my body part.
The feet. 🙂
Oh, I thought it was your pendejo.
Hey, nice — I haven’t seen one of these for a while!
would get your attention 🙂 Have I told you lately how GREAT you look in your pix? Well, you do!
Thanks {{Manny}}. That’s very nice of you.
But, I’d like it if I could talk someone else into posing for some pictures. Because too many of mine look like this
What’s wrong with that? You look happy and full of spit and vinegar.
I’d say it’s a classic example of my circus clown expression.
that made my heart smile. If you recall, I recently had a staring contest with the compadre. I lost.
I love that photo!!
But, I’m afraid that in a clown contest, you would lose and I would win. Sorry.
Frogs don’t have hairy tails. 😛
See what cigarettes will do to a person … 🙂
Yeah, it turns them into the nagee instead of the nagger. 🙂
I love spinach. But unfortunately it wasn’t sitting by the computer when I felt like eating.
a major infraction for lunch and went to Whataburger for a “value” meal so I’m doing penance this evening with the greenery.
Did someone say ice cream?
You commitment is admirable. I’d be thinking I already blew it for lunch I might as well go all out at dinner and start anew tomorrow.
conscience is forcing me to tell you that the spinach was the only thing available to me for cooking. I really need to go grocery shopping. I need another bottle of wine O:)
SN — WAIT!!
Just a little more couldn’t hurt, could it?
Sure, give the to me!
Oh, hello katiebird. Did I say Hershey kisses? I meant steamed spinach – yeah, steamed spinach.
did you revive or is the last gasp before couch time?
I don’t know, I was almost asleep on the couch and suddenly found myself typing insults onto a diary. Then back to couch. Now I’m here.
I’m like a toddler struggling against bedtime. I think I got about 4 hours of sleep last night. And maybe one this afternoon.
So, while I think I’m hear, I guess I could disappear anytime.
(sighing impatiently)
hear should be here.
of typos to words typed that can be used to determine when it is time to give up and go to bed.
probbly, I meen probably. I MEAN probably.
Is that what you mean?
It’s prolly.
but there’s another formula for when it’s time to go to bed — and that’s when the letters sort of skitter across the screen. Which is what mine are doing now so I’m heading off to bed.
Night.
I know what you mean, Andi — Goodnight. Tomorrow is my Boniva day. So I might see you early-ish. Or I might be totally collapsed and sleep late.
I have just finished inputting my last grades for this school year. I am exhausted.
So what are your summer plans besides the trip to florida? Going to get started on that librarian program?
I will at least complete the application – lol!
That’s right, I am wonderful and…hey!
Are you finished with students too, or do you have to go back for a day or two without grades hanging over their heads? We had 4 grade-less days this year and our superintendent bans all field trips and field days during the last week of school.
No kids. Just plain done.
No field trips? No work that counts? Sounds like a brilliant plan.
Hi Toni. Glad to hear you’re through.
Thanks FM. How are you tonight?
I’m doing fine. It must feel like a big weight has been lifted off you.
An even bigger weight will be lifted once I can hit the gym on a regular basis. Grading papers is bad for the waistline!
Congrats TT!
Thanks Olivia. How are things in the capital, since they unraveled the plot to “behead” the PM? I admit that I find that a little dubious.
There are so many things wrong w/ the whole case …
So have you started packing? And how’s your father feeling (I think it was your father)?
I just finished packing my classroom up. We haven’t done laundry in about three days.
My dad is okay. I guess his face is swollen and he feels some pressure in his head. Thanks for asking.
The cafe is smokefree, right?
Tuesday nights, I’m not a very nice blogger without my regular hookah sessions.
(Hi TT! Congrats on being done with the school year!)
Hookah? Isn’t that East Coastese for “hooker”? 😉
Saturdays when maryb hosts the happy hour(s). 😉
Speaking of, I wonder if she made it to The Vegases okay.
I can’t believe how much I miss while I am grading papers.
I don’t usually smoke inside at the computer.
Concern sees and read it. 😛
to be a particularly rational human.
Well it’s bedtime for me. I’ve got to get a good nights sleep so I can appreciate my naps more tomorrow.
Everyone have a good night in the cafe. Cough, cough. 😛
Night FM.
I think that I, too, will take leave for the evening. See everyone later.
checking radars and only spotty stuff out there. I hope I may yet be surprised later. Guess I’ll go back to the Dog Whisperer for a while and see if conditions improve later.
Big heyas all… for those who may still be up, lol.
sorry about the rain, I crossed appendages earlier! 🙂
I’m off to the grocery store, be back later.
Yeah, it sucks, but thanks for the good thoughts! We may still see something but it will be very late if at all from my estimations.
Think I will go watch the rest of César Millan and maybe put in The Constant Gardener since I’ve still not gotten around to watching it.
I’ll check back later too, and don’t forget that bottle of wine and Frosty Paws for Bud!
Sorry about the rain … wish I could send you some of mine.
See ya!
Thx… I’ll pop in later to see if any of the left coasters or Canadian coasters are still conscious. Who knows if this middle coaster will be, lol.
Ciao for now.
or yoyO…or hi O…who’s up?
It’s pretty quiet ’round here tonight … How ya doing?
just got home from the R station, and watched this Marvin Gaye video from 1973…very tasty…different times, better, more revelant music, IMO.
D’you catch the show? Gave you and DJ, Danni and Wesley a shout out…:{)
I missed it! I wondered if it was your time … Figures — now that I have a working internet connection so I could hear you … Next time will ya e/m me?
Thanks for the link … listening now. 🙂
How’s the water sit. today?
How’d your FCH week end…all the “Drama” over?
You wouldn’t believe it … and I don’t really want to talk about it in specifics in this forum, but it was one of those moments that your ‘real’ self emerges in situations that are uncomfortable … let’s just say, when you choose to remove yourself from the sociological group and select ‘other’ … it was extremely uncomfortable — one of the most uncomfortable I’ve experienced — but I’m at peace and happy w/ how I reacted in the situation … that’s what matters in the end.
And the FCH continues … into next week 🙂
if you want to vent or just need an ear e/m me…you’ve got mine, and whatever insights/assistance I may be able to offer.
Here’s a couple more vid’s by an artist who was a very powerful voice in the 60′ and 70’s…my sig is from one of his song/poems…Gil Scott-Heron:
Live NYC…best guess c.1970 +-; South Carolina
Contemporary slide show w/ his Winter in America…song from same period.
His music and spoken word albums will blow your mind w/ their continued relevance…very highly recommended!
Looks like you’re on a roll w/ the great finds tonight.
That second link is very germane …
(I just might take you up on your e/m offer btw.)
Are you feeling any better?
I was countin’ on you to get “wild”…:{)
More good stuff.
Just in a music mood tonight.
Enjoy
Aren’t you always in a music mood … 🙂
check out some of the other ones on the right…some good stuff there.
Steely Dan was one of my favs.in that genre.
I had watched/listened to this one earlier tonight … great minds and all that 😉
#$^!*($@!!!!!!! I think my alternator went out in my vehicle. SHITTY SHITTY SHITTY
Does this mean that you didn’t make it to the store?
in the parking lot of the store. Luckily an immigrant gentleman helped me out by jumping the battery and following me back to my complex. Sigh….not what I needed.
At least you had someone kindly help you get home … But not what you want to have to deal w/…
Did you make it to the market and back?
we’re about to cook the margins…this lil ol’ laptop can’t handle it…:{)
You mentioned it a while back.
I keep it plugged in unless I’m mobile, and then I try to plug in…new one’s about $150us…:{I
Mine’s the same way — doesn’t hold a charge for very long now …
So did you ever get any closure on that business this week (ie. yay or nay)?
the interview that went south? That’s history…wouldn’t take the job if they offered it, and they won’t.
Got rec’d for an off-grid house in the mountains…just got a call from the owner/potential client today. Have to put some info together and set up a meeting…something always comes along…there are 2 things I’ve learned in my prof…the wisdom of an ascetic lifestyle and patience.
Just wonderin’ if you had heard the last.
What’s off-grid? You’re quite the talented guy there d … 🙂
And you’ve got me hooked over at youtube: check out how cheesy this is LOL!
the good old days…:{)
Off-grid = totally self contained, not hooked up to any utility ‘grid’…serious energy independent structures…pv, wells, H2O purification systems, active/passive solar.
Something I know a lot about but have only recently…in the past 3-5yrs…found a renewed interest in from clients. I’ve done 3 in that period; 2 in Mexico, 1 in Co.
Okay … I think you might have said something about that before b/c it sounds familiar (maybe FM’s flooded ceiling diary). Very kewl … 😉
What a shitty night. At least I was able to get the wine.
First work and now this … 🙁
Nothing like that alternator, car died, nothing I can do feeling. I had a very unpleasant one of those once. But glad to hear you got the wine! How about that Frosty Paws for Bud?
Anyway, hope you’ve uncorked that wine already, amigo.
Are O-FCH and D-man still around?
wuzup IVG?
Hey there dada-O and O-Livia! Just checking in after watching my movie earlier… CG was very good, though the gardening part was a bit on the skimpy side. Rreally liked the visual style of the film a lot and some hot damn gorgeous photography of Kenya. Definitely recommend if you haven’t seen it… and with all my pharma research background it really gave me the willies about trials.
Did you enjoy your movie?
my froggybottom suit for a new thread?
Or I can if you want a break …
will have to be summoned…:{)
Yes, liked it a lot. 🙂 Mini review above, lol. A bit of rain moving in here, but it’s still spotty and I suspect I’ll be weeding and watering again later today.
See Constant Gardener if you haven’t… it’s a very nifty film, and good politics of course. hehe
I don’t know anything about it … just snippets. I’ve developed a hair trigger bawling reflex though … 🙂

they read. They anticipate your next move. I can’t praise dogs enough. But they are patient (except for Pepa) and kind. Ok, I’ll stop now with the paeon.
…the Hookah is lit. Come on over.
