Good advice, and I think I will take that pass anyway. I could just pop over and post a pic with minimal commentary, but that’s not really what my intent is. Better to skip it for the night, and yes, I’m kind of written out after today, as it were. This report will be done in the morning and out the door, so then I’ll be on to writing another interview protocol.
You’re more than welcome for the pic… you know the offer always goes that anything you like you can have the big version. Just let me know.
Set your own standards and go with ’em. We’re a captive audience, so we’ll wait for your schedule. Besides, I’d rather you were here w/ us then off in bloggerville. 🙂
by the looks of those blooms, I say you’re getting them way too early. I only have 1 rose bush that was here when I built the house, and I let the blossoms pretty much drop all their petals and then cut the stem back to the first 3 leaf stem/cluster and it blooms again. Also, cut it back real hard after the first killing frost. Haven’t killed it yet and it blooms like crazy every year.
I try to get them before the petals drop b/c the petals fall on the leaves and it leads to black spot etc. I don’t want to use any chemicals this year, so I’m experiementing. 🙂 And since I can’t get around to them every day, I take some of them when they’re about 3/4 finished. Some have actually gone to rosehips out back — and when they do that they stop budding altogether. Which maybe isn’t a bad thing … 😉
Cassandra Wilson’s latest Thunderbird…the complete album for those that may have missed the link the first time. Very, very good album, IMNSO…Chris, you should check it out.
For NDD, and others, who may have missed in his bacchanalian absence:
Hello all. My recent front page post is going over like a turd in the punch bowl. If anybody wouldn’t mind having a quick look and giving me some cretinism I would really appreciate it. Even one word like “sucks” will do. I just feel a little off my bearings right now, so I would be grateful for some help.
cretinism = Criticism. Sorry. My spelling is so piss poor, even my spell checker gets pissed from time to time. Also, I’m not looking for anybody to get my back, I’m looking to figure out where I screwed up.
you’re doing a great job, your humor is much appreciated by me; especially after a long day of rough/angering headlines. Just be you, that’s why BooMan gave you the keys to the joint, right?
sad that no one even made mention of my pic in the Tuesday cafe. I took it at my parents’ casa on Sunday and thought fer suuure the pank would cause a stir. Alas, crickets.
I didn’t even realize that was one you did, Manny! But I’m notorious for being non-pink, so I hope you didn’t take any offense on my part. Oh, and it’s a geranium. Hehe, that’s another one of those things we don’t do around here. I know, I’m an insufferable snob….
at all, I just wanted to you to have to see it again given its hue 😛
The geraniums in their yard are actually pretty special to my family. The original (now monstrous) plants belonged to my great-grandmother who has been deceased for around 20 years. She could barely walk due to arthritis in the end, but would make one of us take her out to the porch every day to check on her flowers and water if need be. She was one of those people who always found beauty in the world wherever she could find it, so those are a great reminder for us to try to do the same. (she could make a mean nopal jelly too, mmmmm)
I get the point you’re trying to make, but I happen to have the memory of that photo and recall the whole purple heart bandaid dogandpony show at the R convention.
I’s say the post requires a bit more of an assumption on the readers account than is usual with your previous posts and other front pagers.
You might want to add an update that clarifies and fleshes out the concepts that you’re intending to convey.
Uh maybe you know this already but they are papaver somnifera and I’ve been seeing them sold lately as “bread seed poppies” which makes me snicker and snort. They are definitely the ones from whence cometh those seeds but let’s call them by their better-known name: opium poppies. A friend’s father who had a restaurant had to have a special government permit to grow enough for his eastern European pastries a goodly number of years ago. I guess if they don’t catch you slitting the sides and scraping off the gum you’re OK (I learned how it’s done from a Nat’l Geographic article on Afghanistan-really!). They pop up all over out here-I’m guessing the birds spred them around.
haven’t seen you around in awhile, hope you’re doing good! Amazing what a person can learn watching Nat’l Geographic, eh? I was always amused with the eskimo ice fishing. Don’t have much opportunities for that kind of fun here in Arizona.
Yup, we know they’re papaver somniferum, though not when we first got the seeds from a gardening friend (there’s a future blog entry coming about that). Basically, if you buy poppy seeds in the store for baking, that’s what you get. It’s also sometimes referred to as “Florist’s Poppy” in seed catalogues, as a lot of people dry the pods for indoor use.
In any case, we grow them for ornamental purposes only, and the ones I’ve posted tonight were not planted… they come up where they will in our garden (we have a veritable field of them in one spot) and we just let them do it. Amazing how many people stop and want to get seeds for them, hehe.
Funny story… in a more rural county last year here, there was a couple arrested for having 20,000+ of these very poppies planted in huge rows. They professed ignorance, and told the police they were “medicine for the sheep.” That didn’t fly, though.
thanks for asking. I’m working through my writer’s block, which is more of spiritual stagnation than anything. Managed to work on fleshing out my novel outline abit more, so that was exciting. How r u, aside from being a DeadHead. 😉
reading that thread earlier but got sidetracked with work. It’s definitely one of those conversations that gets better with time after different flavours of the discussion get a chance to saturate into the conscience. Thanks for the link.
Too bad I’m on the waning end of things here, as the brain is slowing down on me, but great to see you!
Did you get Bud some Frosty Paws yet? Looks like our pups will probably get some this weekend with dada having sent his infernal temps our way. And I thought he was a benificent sage… hehe.
have to run to the pet store tomorrow after work so consider myself properly chastised O:–)
Today was apparently the start of the “Monsoon” here, I’ll believe it when I see it… Maybe Tlaloc can help you out? (no need to drown any children in the modern age for appeasement)
Peer Gynt was the first classical LP I ever bought. And I used to play Anitra’s Dance on the piano. You do know about the Dvorak connection with IA and the New World Symphony right? If not, I’ll tell ya some night.
Align that spine and have a great day tomorrow/today. I’m about wiped out here myself.
I grew up in a small, rural community and yearn for the quiet most evenings; especially when the police chopper is circling. I’m glad you didn’t write “your damn post” 🙂
You forgot Olivia, dada. But good night, buddy. And don’t forget to buy Bu some Frosty Paws soon, especially on those hot days. She’ll thank ya for it profusely, I’m sure.
And no, I’m not a viral marketing bot for Frosty Paws. Our pups love em, though I tasted some once, and it is kind of like beef flavored ice milk, though there’s no dairy involved.
Good night, amigo. If you find you can’t sleep, go take a look at Some of these
Looking forward to today’s Bud blogging … though I am so woefully behind on blog strolling the past few days. I’m not myself. Inward spirals bug me sometimes.
Persevere today, cuz that’s about all I’ll be able to do.
bunch of us are suffering from inward spiral syndrome at the moment. Hope things pick up for you, talk to you on the flip. (and thanks for the time-spender for the insomnia, it’s much appreciated)
Are we on another ebb …
My “arty” shot for the night, heh.
I’m thinking now that the blog post is gonna have to wait. I’m exhausted and have a headache now, and tomorrow’s another busy day, blechhhh.
Don’t feel like you have to … do it when you’ll enjoy it IVG. 🙂
I read that you’re writing again at work, so take a break tonight. Have you done anything about your eyes?
And thank you for that photo. 🙂
I agree!

ha ha! another good one.
and how do they get elected?…hell, never mind, there’s three of them from here…<sigh>
… what I did tonight after work, to give you an example … so check it out.

Really good points you made. And excellent on the writing! I’m doing okay here. 🙂
I saw that you’ve been rainbow hunting. Any chance that you’ll be sharing that pot o’ gold?
Pot o’ Gold until the Pot o’lottery calls.
came thisclose to posting a picture of the scary leprachaun from the recent horror flicks, but no need to scare away the lurkers.
Just in time w/ the hookah…you da man!
up burning your sage this evening? I was at the Tucson Herb Store earlier today for some allergy-blasting tea and picked up a few small bundles.
Kind OT, but related to your post above re: Tlaloc; did you catch this comment by Alice in BoJo’s diary?
Interesting stuff.

I can’t let this night end without a proper introduction to my last dating disaster
this link should work, all four vids are hilarious
Bummer, they won’t open on the mac…says I need osx10.3, only got 10.2.8….strange, cause the last screaming banshee you posted worked fine.
Thanks for the effort…I still like the irony of a ‘blank page date’ tho…:{)
the void is operative on many levels.
In The Hall of the Mountain King, one of the classical songs (along with another movement of the Peer Gynt suite)

I hope you get to fully study the inside of your eyelids without interruption.
