Running out the door now, but I’ll check in later…
Lordy, CG! Slipknot??!!! LOL.. ya know they’re from right around here and C works with the wife of one of the band members. I’ve never ever heard them though … I’m either a snob or a slouch (or both) not sure…
Cooling off any out your way? Beautiful here today, 86, very low humidity and lots of sun. 25 minutes and I can escape cubihell here…
given that after Andi and Jim, we are perhaps the 3rd most boring couple in the world! Lol… actually just the usual gardening upkeep and pic taking, maybe a few more blog posts and if we can swing it, we are dying to go see An Inconvenient Truth. I’ve already seen the presentation and it blew me away… expect the film will be even more powerful than the poorly shot video I saw on LinkTV.
Connection, as obscure as it may be … C knows more about them than I do, but I’m not really into the thrash metal stuff much anymore since I graduated from my Husker Du, Killdozer and Butthole Surfers phase.
I do know that they wear funky masks in concert and nobody really knows that they look like… nice nod to The Residents there, I always thought.

It’s good; she’s good; it’s bad that she doesn’t record more. She and Suzanne Vega are at the top of my I-wish-they’d-come-out-with-something-new list.
Heya Andi! So glad you include Steely Dan, Bonnie Raitt and Joni Mitchell, otherwise I’d be clueless! How are the pups and the woods today? Nice weather out your way or still rainy?
I thought it was an excellent post! Makes me even more eager to see it now … and we’d go tonight if I weren’t afraid of nodding off, which happens a lot after 9 hr days and a little food and a beer… I sit back and leave the world for a little bit, lol.
I’m sleepless from jetlag and went down to the business center for another hour of hanging on the blogs (it’s 1.50 am now).
By chance with iPod attached to ny ears. Random 10:
I suspect that few of the froggies are familiar wit Asian Dun Foundation. A progressive group, if there ever was one.
Sample lyrics from album “Community Music” released in 2000:
Song: Color Line
Today the colour line/ is the power line/ is the poverty line
Racism and imperialism work in tandem
And poverty is their handmaiden
Those who are poor and powerless to break out of their poverty
Are also those who by and large are non-white, non-western, third world
Poverty and powerlessness are intertwined in color, in race
Discrimination and exploitation feed into each other today, under global capitalism
We are back to primitive accumulation – plunder on a world scale
Only this time, the pillage is accompanied by aid, sustained by expert advice and underpinned by programmes and polices that perpetuate dependency
The IMF, the World Bank, Structural adjustment programmes
General agreement on tariffs and trade-gatt
Are just a few of the organizations, schemes, projects
Which under the guise of developing the third world. Plunder it
Trade agreements and commodity price fixing, patients and intellectual rights
They lock them into paralytic dependency
There is no such thing as illegal immigrants, only illegal governments
Today, the colour line/ is the power line/ is the poverty line
and too damn lazy to unpack the iPod, so no FRT from me today, sorry.
Spouse doing our 4+ loads of laundry, I’m mellowing in the Secure Vacation Bunker, with Countdown on in the background; with Keith on vacation last week and me away from TV this week, I’ve had severe Olbermann withdrawal. lol
Actually, the “news fast” was delightful — we had CNN International available via satellite, but I didn’t spend much time watching…spent more time with ESPN and some of the shipboard movie channels when I wasn’t out sightseeing. Biggest news I saw was four of the top Italian League teams are under investigation of match-fixing — they may end up relegated (kicked out) out of the top league and sent down to 2nd or even 3rd level. For an American parallel, imagine the entire Yankee team (ownership and all) sent down to AAA or AA. (Hey, there’s an idea…) Can’t wait to get my soccer-fan brother-in-law’s input…
I did follow news enough to see there were no more resignations, no more indictments, and pretty much the same old same old in the world of governmental inaction.
Sorry I don’t have a random ten list, but mine would be boring anyway! Just home from the office and feeling better though still with a bit of a cough.
I’m enjoying my daily ration of chardonnay and hoping there are some froggies around, since I’ve missed my little froggie friends while being too sick to participate!
Spouse went out to find a local pharmacy to get something for my cough…he’s a good boy. 🙂 When he gets back, I think I’ll take a hot bath and turn in early; would like to get the energy to actually go out and play tomorrow. Of course the best weather hits at the end of the vacation, so I’d like to get in some photography.
If I don’t pop back in, hope everyone has a good night…

here on this end too. ‘Twil henceforth be known as the “Lost Week of the Summer of ’06”
Wednesday I drove 90 miles to recharge a battery! Today, replace brickmolding behind a friend’s screen door, but the work was interrupted by two rainstorms. The last one we went to Woody’s for burgers, after which the sun shone and the project was completed.
ahh, the old goose egg.
About the same for me other than this evening project. No progress on any of my projects, however, just other people who made progress on their projects, some of which were worthwhile in other ways, and somewhat unavoidable.
In city now but leaving again tomorrow for a day then back again, crazy, crazy.
Hey, dada, actually I think you did. Posting those photos of the pad in Cabo was very cool.
A few questions if you don`t mind.
What is the opening from the livngrm to the hot tub if that`s where I`m talking about. It looks like an opening anyway.
The outside railing on the deck is the best one I`ve seen. ever.
In LA you can`t build them like that. When the building inspector comes by, he might just bring a ball 6 ins. in diameter. If it fits through any opening in the rails vertically or horizontally & the railing is not 36″ high, you`ve got a problem.
So basically you can`t enjoy your deckwith a top rail in your eyeline.
Definitely a beautiful rail.
Next thing I liked was the leaning bar behind the radius couch with a toekick that`s not a toekick. Very nice also.
Now that I`m done with the very high compliments, there is one thing I would change, if it`s not too late. I think those sculptures should be bronze. The ones that look like donkeys. Apart from that, I see no fault, & the view is spectacular. My compliments.
the small opening is a “fireplace” w/ a 1/2″ glass back on outside…so you can enjoy the fire from the hot tub…fire is actually a gas “fire starter” buried in the crystals that you get when you smash tempered glass. The flame can be manipulated by using a poker and moving the chips around…very cool effect – will also work w/ a fine silica sand, and I’ve designed ext. fire pits using that.
The new IBC code railing space is 4″ and horizontals are discouraged. No such code in Mexico. That rail is cast concrete @ 18″ W and 16″ AFD…bench footrest combo. In fact, the entire house is concrete…took 2 yrs to build.
The view is spectacular, and I can’t take credit for that…just tried to use it to the max. advantage. Also serious consideration was given to solar orientation, shading and the prevailing on-shore and off-shore breezes as there is no A/C.
The burros are wild and all over the place…the mexican’s really mistreat them, as they do most animals down there…it’s really unfortunate as they are very gentle and nearly tame.
Ya, I spaced on the code, it used to be 6″ years ago, & I know it`s 4″ now.
I couldn`t find fault with anything in those pix so I had to say something. I could only use the donkeys as a foil, & it seems I`ve just perpetuated the abuse of them. I could get quite medieval with someone who hurts animals. It`s strange how one could bash someone in the head for bashing an animal. NAH
Do you have a website where I can see more of your works?
not proficient enough to deal w/ it…lots of people have ?’d me about doing one…$’s get in the way. I’m basically a one man op, and all my work is thru referrals/recs/people who have seen my structures.
Lots of stuff has been published but I don’t have links…prob should track some of them down. I’ll upload some more stuff in the future and post it, as I’ve got a film/slide scanner now…stay tuned.
No offense taken @ the burro’s…I feel the same, it was not easy being polite. Although when I was around the workmen were on their best behavior as I did talk to the contr. @ it.
The owner’s feed them when they’re down there and they’re damn near pets now. Also, their caretaker provides for them when they’re not there…one does what one can.
I am back in the big city once again, due to the electrons moving from the auto’s battery to it’s parking lights. MS NDD had to take a cab to work Wed morning, now minus $23.
But leaving here again tomorrow at 11AM for the farmstead and an art show here.
Yeah, what’s weird is there’s a great variety of artists and from what I’ve heard they like that show ’cause their work sells well. You have to wonder where the people come from though.
I think paintings, photos, blown glass, pottery, etc.
Here’s a couple of artists that I think will be there, for example.
Wow, can’t believe you two are talking about Joy Division! I was a big fan while they lasted … have all 3 of their albums, lol. Stuff you see in the FBL, I tell ya…
I haven’t seen that movie — they used Echo and the Bunnymen?!? Wow, now I really am flashing back. Do you remember Killing Joke? I saw them play the Whiskey way back when — all those depressed pre-goth or proto-goth bands. I saw Bauhaus once, too, but didn’t care for them live.
hey, those look like a whole lot of fun. Be sure to schedule your gallery opening to coincide with these next year, so I can hit them all in one shot, eh?
Hot day um! Dat’s sum purdy pitcher ya got dere Sven!
Nice! Can’t believe there’s actually life here, since I’ve been practically lifeless tonight. Weeded, ate Chinese stuff, watched KO and a couple of episodes of “Spaced,” and I snoozed off for a bit…
Wasn’t really a nap … more of about 20 min snoozing half awake, then I washed the grime offa me from gettin personal with the weeds tonight. I’m not 100% there, so don’t go gettin all lippy there, ok?
I think it must have been the capper for everyone’s Semaine de merde absolue that did us in. Sure did me, and then had to have the fool idea of weeding for 1.5 hrs after work and 2 beers… we’re making progress though!
Use this hydrant if it gets too hot. I just noyiced it today at 5:00 & had to
stop what I was doing to shoot it. Sometimes my cacti get ahead of me.
A lot of the ones I have bloom for 24 hrs. and die in the heat of the next day, so I`m lucky I saw this one.
I`m going to send you a few medieval pics on that door in a min.
A quick suggestion. I don`t know if you do or not but I would bracket my shots & you`ll quickly get the feel for setting speed & aperture automatically. Mes deux sous. http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/6706/firehydrantdscn71831pv.jpg
For that, you must accept today`s rose. I had gone over to shoot some opium poppys but they`re done for this year, when over in a side area of the yard bekoned this flower. It must have known you`d call. http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/7058/yellowrosedscn71785xz.jpg
Scratched my head over that one, since I’m not the greatest at wildflowers … best I can think of is it’s maybe some kind of wild Coreopsis given the leaf structure and bloom, but that’s my best guess. And I’m probably wrong at that. And as soon as I open this beer, I’ll be even more off base, lol.

I’m impressed that there’s a Iowa band that rates with CG’s uber-kewl musical tastes and that you’ve got a connection.

It rained this morning but it’s supposed to be gone through the weekend and even better, it’s cooling off.
Just wanted to thank many of you here for the comments and recommends regarding my little post yesterday on Al Gore’s film.

Hey MM – glad you’re feeling a little better. It’s a verrrrrry quiet night in the frog pond. 🙂
It certainly seems that way. Everyone busy IRL, it seems!
Glad you’re feeling better.
The comments are getting closer together. Inside of 10 minutes!
if I weren’t on dialup.
How are you this evening — feeling even-tempered?
Very even tempered. The Mr. is home from England and off to his parents to see his long lost brother. So the bed is mine alone.
So this would be a good time for you to take up chewing tobacco so we can see if the joke is true.
For me it would be melted chocolate frosting dribbling evenly out of both sides of my mouth.
I guess I should clean the kitchen now since no one else is home to do it. Damn these helpless cats.
Maybe I’ll be up early enough to chat with you morning people. Seems like FM might have a migraine.
I think I’ll head off to bed.
I hope you’re wrong about FM; it would be shame if the treatment didn’t work.
Well, anyway — good night to you and your big bed. See you (maybe) in the morning.
sweeet dreams!!!!
I missed out on saying hello and goodbye to AndiF in the time it took me to make potato salad!
Well, hi and goodbye until next time, AndiF!

Me? I’m looking for someone to entertain me so I don’t fall asleep…:{)
That was last week and I stayed back — all by myself, nice and quiet.
Entertain you, eh? I don’t think this is the most ‘hoppening’ place tonight … a mighty task I think. 🙂
yeah, very quiet for a friday…I think everybody had a shit week…I know I did.

I’d also be delighted to see more of your work, dada.
If I ain’t around when you post it, I’d sure appreciate a link to it later on.
Here, have a hug …
I came across the National Geog photo contest the other day: World In Focus. They have the pix of last year’s winners … have you seen?
Oh, and for laughs … 80s music vids … some crazy stuff. 🙂
Are you still BNFing? 🙂
technically speaking, no.
I am back in the big city once again, due to the electrons moving from the auto’s battery to it’s parking lights. MS NDD had to take a cab to work Wed morning, now minus $23.
But leaving here again tomorrow at 11AM for the farmstead and an art show here.
LOL … the whole ‘city’ fits on one photo. 🙂
What kind of art will be displayed NDD?
Yeah, what’s weird is there’s a great variety of artists and from what I’ve heard they like that show ’cause their work sells well. You have to wonder where the people come from though.
I think paintings, photos, blown glass, pottery, etc.
Here’s a couple of artists that I think will be there, for example.
Jon Offutt
Robert Kurkowski
I like those blown glass flowers and the bird pots are wonderful.
RK does these too
Love ‘smoke’ … 🙂
Oh, man, Olivia! The Blow Monkeys!! I’m having flashbacks! Plus, it wasn’t even the good Blow Monkey’s song.
Hey, there’s actually a couple of gems in there. I’ve never seen that Joy Division video.
Glad I posted the link then … 🙂 It was fun to look back at a couple of ’em …
Wow, can’t believe you two are talking about Joy Division! I was a big fan while they lasted … have all 3 of their albums, lol. Stuff you see in the FBL, I tell ya…
Yes, there was a period in my teens when I couldn’t hear enough Joy Division. The video in that link is of Love Will Tear Us Apart.
I love that song! Glad they used it in the Donnie Darko soundtrack, along with Echo and the Bunnymen’s Killing Moon.
I haven’t seen that movie — they used Echo and the Bunnymen?!? Wow, now I really am flashing back. Do you remember Killing Joke? I saw them play the Whiskey way back when — all those depressed pre-goth or proto-goth bands. I saw Bauhaus once, too, but didn’t care for them live.
never saw Bauhaus, but got sick of Bela Lugosi at every after bar party I went to, lol. Ok, O says new cafe comin up here…
I’m not sure I want to go there…on second thought, I’m positive not.
Photo site looks pretty cool tho…thanks, and hugs back atcha from me and
Mr T wasn’t the worst part of it either … 🙂
Ok … these two links might be more interesting …
Ottawa jazz fest on right now.
Ottawa blues fest starts July 7th.
hey, those look like a whole lot of fun. Be sure to schedule your gallery opening to coincide with these next year, so I can hit them all in one shot, eh?
and a rather loose interpretation of what constitutes Blues…not necessarily a bad thing…:{)
Here’s a couple mp3’s by a local guy who’s pretty good…a bit predictable still, but has grown a lot since I first met him:
The Johnny O Band [elec. trio live]
Gotta be some changes made
JO & T Duo [acoustic]
Matchbox Blues
An ‘interesting’ mix … some are b/c they’re Cdn etc.
Thanks for those links!
Ain’t these guys in your neck of the mtns.
They were a Fargo last winter, (or maybe the winter before, ha ha no memory tonight) and I very much enjoyed their concert.
up in Ned erland…@ 15 m up the Canyon…AFAIK, they still do. Pretty good jam-grass…which I like as well.
But Bruce Springsteen is going to be on TV any second. And I can’t possibly sleep before I see him.
(yawn)
Hey, Katiebird. What’s he gonna be on?
Conan O’brian — he’s on now!!
And so good.
BRUCE!!
Cool! I’ll have to try to stay awake for it. Enjoy!
He was great. Perfect. It was coooool. You’ll love it.
(smiling sleepily)
I’d better get to bed, I’m hosting tomorrow!
Is this Bruce singing or Bruce talking?
Singing/Playing
An anti war anthem and a big jazzy dance song. Even Conan’s playing the guitar.
At farmstead looking east over glacial Lake Agazziz
larger
The clouds are wonderful.
You all still here for a bit?
come draggin’ in at midnight…after a nap…and wanta know if we’re stayin’ up…welllllllll, I dunno…:{)
I told you it wasn’t me that did the nap thing … 🙂
Wasn’t really a nap … more of about 20 min snoozing half awake, then I washed the grime offa me from gettin personal with the weeds tonight. I’m not 100% there, so don’t go gettin all lippy there, ok?
Dada must have lured us all out using some sort of psychic brainwave ability. Until he showed up the cafe was Empty.
Good to see you!

For that, you must accept today`s rose. I had gone over to shoot some opium poppys but they`re done for this year, when over in a side area of the yard bekoned this flower. It must have known you`d call.

See ya over in the new cafe …

Scratched my head over that one, since I’m not the greatest at wildflowers … best I can think of is it’s maybe some kind of wild Coreopsis given the leaf structure and bloom, but that’s my best guess. And I’m probably wrong at that. And as soon as I open this beer, I’ll be even more off base, lol.
Olivia will nail it, I’m sure. She’s resourceful.
but it’s up north, and just noticed this little guy had bloomed as I was driving out of the yard, so… stop, back up, and then phototime.
Sounds either painful or very fun … 😉
I was off getting the new cafe done b/c it takes me so long. I think I’m going to pop it up now. NDD — I’ll take a look at the flower when I get back.
New cafe here.
