Thanks for the kind words on the photo. You might very well have the same skills — but you’ll have to move somewhere with forests and enough humidity for fog to happen to find out.
Morning Andi!!! The Diva Dogs & I are doing great. They have eaten and played and are napping. I am busy going back & forth between bloggs and responding and planning my next design and podcast. LOL
Morning, Andi, rf69, and all the ships at sea. That photo needs only a young woman in a billowing gauzy gown stepping out from behind the trees to be pure Gothic goodness.
than to gothic, I was thinking of some alien lifeform with viney tentacles (see or read Day of Triffids) quietly slinking toward the unsuspecting human who is absorbed in trying to hold the camera steady enough to have the picture in focus, given the poor light.
Morning!!!!! I am doing laundry and then will take a short nap before heading out for the day. I have a luncheon with some bloggers and then will go out to dinner also. LOL
Hi, kb. I looked in on that cafe and couldn’t believe how empty it was. I’ll bet the spring weather draws everybody outside on the weekend. What are you up to today? (btw, thank you for doing that thing you did on my site.)
Everything’s in a holding pattern til we find out more tomorrow, thanks. (My mom had a bad heart” episode” yesterday and I had to whisk her to the ER. She is now in ICU, and is feeling much, much better thanks to a nitro patch. A nurse asked her what the problem was, and my mom said, “The problem is I’m 90.”)I’ll be going out to check on her soon and then I have that speaking gig at the Topeka library this afternoon.
That drive doesn’t get beautiful until after Topeka, darn it. But the library itself is beautiful inside, probably the prettiest modern library I’ve ever seen. Even has a cafe with good food.
I’m glad she’s feeling better. It must have been terrifying.
My grandmother had a heart attack when she was 90 and another at 91. She was fine after each one. They must have been pretty minor. And it wasn’t a heart attack that killed her.
of my mom’s first heart attack (heart “episode” if you prefer) back in 1987. She was in CICU (Cardio ICU) at Stanford Hospital, all us kids gathered in the waiting room. The doctor came out and asked us for some medical background, ie, any previous surgeries. We began the litany: hysterectomy, appendectomy, gall bladder, etc. Finally my brother blurted out, “Hell, the only thing left is the box she came in!” Definitely lightened the mood a bit…
Just popping in for a bit till I pack away the laptop for the trek homeward; first thing I’ll do when we get home sometime after 5pm will be to turn on all the assorted surge strips so I can power up the WiFi, so I’ll be back sometime this evening. Spouse’s first thing will be to go start the car that’s been sitting idle for a couple of weeks, then bring it around front; I’m craving something basic like grilled cheese sandwiches for tonight, but we’ll have to actually go get bread first. π
My thoughts are with you and your Mom. Ninety! Wow!
My mom has an enlarged heart due to morbid obesity issues. Each year or so she is rushed to the ER then on to an ICU and we’re told each time that she has a few days…
Given that kansas sees a young maiden and Andi sees an alien being, I think that picture is a great sort of Rorschach (sp?) test for personality types.
Me, I lean more toward the maiden and unicorn – whatever that means.
I am hauling my ass to the gym. Ugh. See you all later in the day. Let’s see if we can get the cafe to move even slower than yesterday!
Just dropped by to say hi. Am meeting a friend for coffee this morning and slept late due to staying up too late…. Hope everyone is having a good Sunday and not either drowning or scorching. It’s a little cooler today since the marine layer moved it.
Back from camping with the SallyCats and what a really nice time we had. Even though my son was rude, crude and totally oppositional… GACK.
Mr. Cat and Damnit went class 2 kayacking and the lack of a splash skirt made that a bit rough for Mr. Damnit as he kept flooding. He at one time hit the rapids, flipped and rode em out on the afloat BOTTOM of his kayak.
Laundry is running to get rid of the campfire smoke.
Have a CP signage making party for Tuesday’s actions. Lt. Watada refused to deploy Thursday (early) and is now confined to base and gagged from speaking. We have several who want to carpool with us. Other groups are standing on various roads. (If people would ever get organized we might be able to take back our country… grumble.) We will do our best not to get arrested or hurt.
Fantastic photo as always Andi! I wish I had the woodsy area to practice my skills (what skills??) on to try to get such fabulous moody views (not to be confused with Moody Blues!) …
BIG news here (and don’t the rest of you all yawn here), we got RAIN for quite some time yesterday afternoon, and another thundershower moved through about 9:30 last night!! Of course, I had deliberately tempted fate yesterday by hanging a load of laundry on the line, where it still is, wet, lol. I don’t even mind that it’s not dry yet because we needed that rain so badly. Supposed to get scattered showers throughout the afternoon as well, so aside from planting the last few straggler plants (some mums, toad lilies and Blue Fescue plants) I doubt much will get done in the garden today. Which means non-stop weeding after work next week… at least it looks like I won’t have to water for a few days at least.
Isn’t it pathetic when the highlight of my weekend is getting excited about rain? lol… I think we’re starting to rival Andi and Jim for 2nd most boring couple… but we still have a ways to go, from what Andi tells me…
We actually had an enjoyable evening quite by accident… there was a loud party up the street and I heard this weird version of “Burning Down the House” playing … which got us thinking about all the great 80’s vinyl we have we never pull out … well last night was the night, and we dredged up some stuff we hadn’t listened to in years and even dusted off the turntable! So there went a few hours of Talking Heads, Shriekback, Butthole Surfers, Wall of Voodoo and other stuff… it was really fun to revisit that era for a bit! We have to make ourselves do that more often.
Oh Andi, I uncovered my Kate and Anna McG albums, a lot of Bonnie Koloc, Maria Muldaur,Joan Baez, John Hartford, Steve Goodman and other goodies from my long past folkie days and thought fondly of you, figuring you know what this stuff is and probably have most of it!
So yesterday was the slowest ever, eh? I popped in once or twice but nothing had been posted for hours, so I left…then when tried to come back the site was pitching fits so I gave up. Looks like it’s working better today … hope to check in again later and see who’s stirring!
So hoping you’re all having a great Sunday… taking it easy here and will head out to plant a few things soon. Heyas to you all!
I thought it was getting eaten by slugs, and it may be, but it also looks like it might have acquired a fungus or other boo-boo of some sort. The stems have black spots on them and the lower leaves are all falling off. Other than that the blooms are a lovely lavender color, though not very prolific.
I think what you’re dealing with, SN, is a bad case of “powdery mildew.” Do the leaves look kind of mottled, gray and just fungus-y looking? If so, that would be powdery mildew, which I discussed somewhat at my b-thingie a week or so in the entry on Bee Balm.
It’s caused by excessive humidity, which I am sure you have right now, and though the powdery mildew shouldn’t kill the plant, it will make them really ugly and they will suffer for a bit. What we’ve found to work is this really stinky sulfur solution that you spray on and around the plants. You should be able to find something like it at better garden centers (not sure about big box stores, we found ours at a local nursery). It will at least stop the infection and better air circulation and a bit dryer weather also help. I’d also suggest that you consider planting some sort of allium around them as well… since we recently found out that they release sulfur into the soil over time and help prevent fungal infections that some plants seem prone to developing. (See the blog for more details.)
So your purple is blooming? Ours is always later than the red (which is in full sway right now) and I’m looking forward to it! Love that stuff.
Oh, and for slugs… I may have suggested this before (don’t remember) but have you tried the “saucer of beer” trick? I’ve read in many places that if you place a saucer of beer close to the base of the affected plant(s), slugs are attracted to the smell, fall in and drown! Now, I’ve never tried it so don’t blame me if it doesn’t work (we don’t really have a slug problem here). But many gardening authorities more vaunted than I swear by it. There’s also probably poisonous solutions, but we don’t use chemicals in the garden (except that mosquito treatment for the yard).
Hope this gives you some direction on what you can do!
That sounds like just the problem, and gollllly it’s been humid around these parts!
As for the beer trick, we used to do that back home (Ohio) when we had little slugs. Every morning we’d have to empty a saucer of drunk, dead slugs from the beer. Ick. They sure do like that beer!
Well, then you’re familiar with that, and confirmation that it really works! I could check one of our references on that but have never really had the problem, so I’m relatively ignorant in that regard. Sure are ugly lil things though (and no, you don’t have to post the link to that pic! lol).
Try the sulfur spray and let me know how it works out… forgot to mention, but Zinnias are prone to that too in the really humid months, though it never really kills them … they just look sickly and keep on blooming!
Got stuff by everybody on that list but Bonnie Koloc who I don’t know. If I went through my lp’s, here’s a few names I’d add to your list: Tom Paxton, Buffy St. Marie, Phil Ochs, Tim Hardin, and Judy Collins.
OH! I totally spaced out the Judy Collins! I even have an ancient copy of the “Wildflowers” album for which I used to hate her because she did an awful version of “Both Sides Now.” I since forgave her and still love her. Never bought any Phil Ochs or Buffy St. Marie, but had friends who listened to them… Ochs I always did want to own though. Bonnie Koloc was from somewhere in the midwest and had (has?) a beautiful voice… she was kind of in that Steve Goodman Chicago-folkie crowd, and her albums were on the same obscure label as his first few…
I was sparing you the obscure — my two favorites in that category are Claudia Schmidt (who we saw at a folk club on Clark — or maybe it was Rush — in Chicago) and Sally Rogers.
Have to admit I’ve never heard of those, so ya got me there Andi! But there was so much great stuff back in the day that with keeping up with being a deadicated DeadHead, I surely missed a lot of great stuff along the way. Speaking of the Dead, have you ever heard any of Jerry Garcia’s side project with Dave Grisman called “Old and In the Way?” There was a great, very entertaining docu on that a few years ago called Grateful Dawg that chronicles that collaboration… even if you say you loathe the Dead, this one would be an eye opener, as it shows a totally different side of Jerry than most people ever knew…. and Grisman is a magnificent musician in his own right…
Oh yeah, forgot about the David Bromberg stuff too, lol. His version of Delia still makes me cry when I hear it.
I have several of Grisman’s dawg music albums but not the one with Garcia — though I’ve heard pieces from it and liked everything I’ve heard.
I always considered Bromberg a blues artist — if you go that route I’ve got all kinds of old stuff (like Muddy Waters, Otis Span, James Cotton, Etta James, Katie Webster, Butterfield Blues Band, Blues Project, Albert Collins …)

Ca va toi,
I started shooting a shell collection I have. Most are 1-4 second exposures, with the light coming from actinic blue lights, which are the last lights to shut down during the reefs photo-period. I supplemented the light available with different flashlights [penlight, spotlight, glove box light. I have hundreds of the darn things, so I`ll be showing you some in the following future. [ as opposed to the pluperfect one.]
The “Olivia” colored one is in the middle I think. HA http://img416.imageshack.us/img416/6357/displayedcaculusdscn72099oe.jpg http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/4472/75x10flatcollection115us.jpg
It was nice … although they were on the waning side. We had an early season here (my garden stuff was about 3wks early) and so to the orchids. I do have pix. I’m working on them now.
So … speaking of 20 questions … did you have fun? What did you do? Did you take some pix w/ the xt? How’s Bu? π
no fun, we had an intense hail storm yesterday that virtually destroyed the landscaping. I’ve not seen a sustained storm like that in all the yrs. I’ve been here.
3/4″ to golf ball sized hail and almost 3″ rain (unofficial) in less than an hour…my environs look like a salad… devastating, spent a good part of the day cleaning up and not even close to being done…:{(
she’s not scared, just doesn’t care for it…all animals are very prescient, in my experience. It is possible to learn a great deal if open and receptive to them.
Well actually having an accountant is certainly a positive … no? π
I know I was more in touch w/ my lovely bed. I spent a lot of time and money getting it just the way I like it and don’t get to spend enough time there. It’s the only piece of furniture in the room besides two side tables.
a lady after my own heart. I have an antique rocker and oak dresser in the BR, and a reading light over the bed. The furnishing’s in my house are very minimal…very monastic, don’t even own a davenport…have only had a sit down din table for aboot 3 yrs…used to be japanese style till the knees gave out…:{)
Mmmmm, this morning I had 2 eggs and (look away!) 3 pieces of buttered toast and a glass of Simply Orange juice. I felt like I deserved it after the gym.
Just made it in the apartment from the Grand Northwest Adventure. And on the trek home, had a great idea — premium fares for adult-only (or maybe 13 – up) flights. This after a youngster right behind us alternated between screaming and begging his mom to read him the “bear hunt” story for the umpteenth time. “We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. And such a beautiful day…” yadda yadda yadda. sigh
Will probably tackle uploading the pictures tomorrow morning; tonight we’re heading out for a nice simple dinner (I’m craving either a grilled cheese sandwich or a tuna melt — something very simple).
Okay, time to get a few things done before heading off to dinner…it is very good to be home…
Looks like another slow night around here, which is not such a bad thing! A very showery day here, and every time I got ready to go out and plant a few things, the rain came through and kept me in again. A very good day, all in all, given the long lack of moisture here! Not. Complaining. One. Bit.
Wandered out a bit after the last pre-dark shower and took a few pics … here’s one that can double for a late night pillow … Artemisia schmidtiana aka, Silver Mound, a plant I’ve been warming up to more and more over the past few years …
Firefoxers do the usual right click thingie, view …
Wonderful stuff, Artemisia. I used to relegate this one to the common ground of landscapiana and old lady borders, but I’ve come 180, given how it grows so naturally and effortlessly from the boulder wall …
Anyway, to anyone still around, friends since retired and lurkers (oh and hey there! ennessay!), good night.
“Good night, everyone” — okay, that’s out of my system.
And now: Good Morning.
LOL!!!! Good night and good morning!!!! I love the fog in the trees. You do have a wonderful eye for photos. I wish I had half your skill.
How are you and the Diva Dogs doing?
Thanks for the kind words on the photo. You might very well have the same skills — but you’ll have to move somewhere with forests and enough humidity for fog to happen to find out.
Morning Andi!!! The Diva Dogs & I are doing great. They have eaten and played and are napping. I am busy going back & forth between bloggs and responding and planning my next design and podcast. LOL

Nice try. But nah, Gothic, totally Gothic. I’d give you LOTR, though, if the trees were a bit more eccentric looking.
Why not a princess riding an alien animal? LOL
Morning!!!!! I am doing laundry and then will take a short nap before heading out for the day. I have a luncheon with some bloggers and then will go out to dinner also. LOL
Good morning Andi and Everyone. Was yesterday the slowest Cafe on record? Now I don’t feel guilty for running out on you all.
Hi, kb. I looked in on that cafe and couldn’t believe how empty it was. I’ll bet the spring weather draws everybody outside on the weekend. What are you up to today? (btw, thank you for doing that thing you did on my site.)
Thanks for reminding me.
I was just thinking about you. Everything OK?
Also I only had 35 people at Eat4Today. I think the fewest people ever.
Everything’s in a holding pattern til we find out more tomorrow, thanks. (My mom had a bad heart” episode” yesterday and I had to whisk her to the ER. The problem with speaking gigs in Topeka is that you have to BE in Topeka. The drive is beautiful. I guess that almost makes up for it.
That drive doesn’t get beautiful until after Topeka, darn it. But the library itself is beautiful inside, probably the prettiest modern library I’ve ever seen. Even has a cafe with good food.
If you have time you could take 24 — I think it’s nice the whole way. That’s one of the roads we take on our picture-taking tours.
Ooo, great idea. Thanks. If I can, I will.
Sending warm thoughts of Love and Healing!!!!
Thanks, rf! I’ll pass them along to her.

What’s eating Gilbert Grape… I kid you not.
The site went down too so that really slowed things down but it wasn’t the joint wasn’t jumping before that anyway.
I think everybody had a fine case of Saturday-itis.
I was exhausted to tell the truth and had a headache that would not quit. Luckily, I am feeling much better today.
Oh, yes, a unicorn, I can imagine that, too. So now we’ve got Gothic, science fiction, and fantasy. Pretty evocative photo, Ms. f.
we could complete the tour with the porn interpretation.
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Well you know them horns and virgins. LOL
Needs Ewoks.
Nice use of light to be a center of interest….
and read this message — have you ever seen the movie Legend (the plot hinges on a maiden and a unicorn)?
Good morning everyone.
It’s actually raining here today. I just cant’ get a break. Now the lawn will start growing. π
We had an actual rainy day yesterday. It poured without stopping for about 7 hours.
Hi KB. Ours is just a sprinkle, but enough for the vegatation.
Seven hours of straight rain. I can’t remember when we had that much.
It never happens here. But it was still coming down while we were grilling the hamburgers (luckily under an overhang)
I’m not to much of a griller. I figure rain days should be a take out day. Just as long as you get the food before it rains.
Good to see you back w/ us. π
Morning Olivia. Thanks. How’re things going up in your area today?
Hey everyone. Feeling better, FM?
Hi SN. Yeah somewhat better.
How’re ya doing today?
Sweaty and smelly and feeling old after an hour at the gym. Why can’t I be 25?
I thought you were 24. Wishing to be older huh. π
Ah FM, I missed that Southern Charm™ π
You miss it? You’re right in the middle of it.
I hate to run, but I’m already being called to do stuff.
See ya’ll later.
About ready to head out … nice sunny day here, so we’re going to a wild orchid conservation to take some pix.
Hope you have a good day there FM … and feel better soon.
{{{{{{{{FM}}}}}}}}}
See you all later — if there’s anyone around tonight LOL.
Have a good time and I’ll be looking forward to some pictures.
Olivia’s going to see an movie? π

3/4″ to golf ball sized hail and almost 3″ rain (unofficial) in less than an hour…my environs look like a salad… devastating, spent a good part of the day cleaning up and not even close to being done…:{(
That’s awful d … did you have any ‘structural’ damage d/t the hail?
but I haven’t really inspected the roof. I’m glad the car was inside the gar. and I didn’t get any broken skylights…it was very ugly.
Bu is convinced, more than ever, that rain w/ thunder and lightning is bad…temp dropped 40º in <10 min, 80 +- to 40ºF…
I think animals can sense that sort of thing … Was she scared during?
Re temp drop … that’s crazy d.
she’s not scared, just doesn’t care for it…all animals are very prescient, in my experience. It is possible to learn a great deal if open and receptive to them.
So what have you got planned for this week … hopefully it goes better than last.
New week…try to reel in that O/G project. Need to turn the ol’ cash flow to the positive side…:{)
I’ll send all my positive vibes your way.
So are you telling me that you didn’t do one fun thing this w/e?
Fun?…slept reaaaal late sat, and took Bu on a long trek to one of her favorite swimming holes…the rest sucked.
LOL … sleeping in on sat morn was one of my highlights!
Hmmm … what does that say about us … I thought for sure you’d be doing more interesting things. π
No, he worries about getting paid…:{)
What it says?…Maybe it says we’re more in touch w/ the things that matter:
Live simply so that others may simply live and all that.
The furnishing’s in my house are very minimal…very monastic, don’t even own a davenport…have only had a sit down din table for aboot 3 yrs…used to be japanese style till the knees gave out…:{)
I hate clutter and knickknacky type stuff. Too much furniture is a real turn off for me.
Japanese sytle … now that’s kewl.
Doesn’t look like our charisma…Ha!…is going to draw the late nighters out of their somulant state, eh.
Think I’ll go read a while…hope fch is fini soon.
Be well, sleep sound, pleasant dreams in your special bed.
G’night O, catch ya on the flip.
Peace
Pleasant dreams to you as well … See ya!
Just a quick hello to let you know I had a blast at the bloggers lunch and now I am on myy way to a fund rasier for John Courage.
He’s got a perfect name.
Hi! Did you ever crack open those eggs? π
Okay, time to get a few things done before heading off to dinner…it is very good to be home…
looks so beautiful and hikeable!
