It was really just a statement, not a question. I was just looking to see what the various options were in the general vicinity of the Loop/Magnificent Mile for October.
Although I think the chance of getting a better rate increases toward September when they realize they need to run a few October specials.
since we figured out that 1/2 way is only about 2 hours for each of us. Anybody else who wants to come is welcome, but I don’t really expect many people will show up in Effingham IL 🙂
While we’re there we’ll probably plan some meetup stuff. We’ll let Jim decide whether our plans are photogenic enough 😉
No, it wasn’t all that serious and they have their money now. Mary, did you ever notice how flat it is out there and how the highways are really straight and that there isn’t much in the way of traffic? Anyway, apparently the midwest frowns on doing 130 in a 60. Live and learn. It was for the best, as it remided me of why I don’t own a car.
Chicago? That’s no Effingham. I do know it. I’m not saying I’ve been there as often as I’ve been to New Jersey, but I think a few visits to Illinois probably qualifies me as an expert on the Midwest. An enlightened easterner even. Hell, if you cats ever need a despot, I just might be the guy for the job.
I’m all for Chicago. It’s very clean and makes me feel as though I’m in a big Toronto. My wife doesn’t care for it so much and she’s the one who makes the money in the family, so it could be a tough sell.
I’m so glad you liked it. I had fun making it, too. Thanks for stopping over. You made me literally laugh out loud with that story about the woman who was telling your manager.
Oh, I never would last in the coat department — I have a weakness for them, too, and they’re expensive.
I only worked in one department store, my third shortest job. I worked for a day in the gift wrapping department of The Broadway, a store since bought by Macy’s. It was right before Christmas and it was a horror.
I did for a couple of days, but got hot again today. But it was cool earlier on, so I was unprepared when I went out on my walk — it was over 90! A stealth heat wave.
Clean cafe and plenty of space.
Where’s everybody? FM? SN?
I’m here. Where did SN and Olivia go?
Missed you in the other cafe.
Were your ears burning? I found a hotel in Chicago that will do any experience you want, including a bathtub of hot chocolate. 🙂
Any experience?
Well, as I said earlier, I’m going to have to think long and hard about what I want. 😉
Now SN, Mary just said it has to be legal. 😉
It’s not like I want it THAT long and hard. What’s the limit as far as legality?
You will be taking your camcorder with ya, huh.
BTW take your bird along. That would add to the film. 🙂
That video might just pay for all of our trips, if it’s marketed right …
We’ll leave that to you – my PR skills are poor.
of course … the star wouldn’t do her own marketing
So that leaves me and Johnny Wad out of it.
And of course Huge Jorgan.
Man, I typed his name wrong. Hugh Jorgan. Hugh.
I think we have the million dollar idea. 🙂
Legal. But not moral 😉
They say they can do anything — as long as it’s legal.
Legal? Oh well.
Hmmmmmm … interesting.
right?
Another empty cafe to myself.
This keeps up and George is going to be a total drunk.
We’re back to where we started! 🙂
It does appear so doesn’t it. I was just asking where you went.
The cafe was moving so slow I figured I wouldn’t miss much, but then I come back and whoa! 🙂
Thanks froggybottom – I knew you’d come through. Now where’s the bathtub filled with chocolate?
For $349 a night they should have multiple cans of whipped cream also. 🙂
They can do whatever/whenever. Of course so can I – for a price.
So you’re saying everyone has their price?
Probably not everyone. But most people. No?
I agree. Sorry SN, I couldn’t resist. 🙂
Well, it’s most likely true but the price isn’t always monetary. I do things for love I would never do for money.
Ah, don’t we all. Love makes us appear almost insane at times.
Here ya go!
Wow, did you have that ready to go? I’m so impressed, and hungry.
The other day I was daydreaming about a chocolate bath and so I googled it and sure enough … you can find anything on the internet. 🙂
You were daydreaming about a chocolate bath …
where were you when you did this?
I think it was in conjunction with Family Man’s new ice cream maker.
Chocolate baths and ice cream dreams
what better time to lull away.
I guess I should write something before I hit post.
I’m eating strawberry shortcake right now, so your ice cream talk does nothing for me.
Ah but you have had FM brand ice cream.
George licks out of every carton before we send it out.
Quality control you know.
B/c it’s bad for doggies …
No chocolate for George. But I let him lick the mixture before I put the chocolate in. Hah. 🙂
Of course. And since he no doubt licks his hindquarters prior to licking the carton I think you’ve hit upon a new flavor.
Now I need a name for it. Wouldn’t want to be too obvious of the flavor enhancer. 🙂
How about GEORGE’S ASS?
No I think in the current political climate it wouldn’t be a best seller.
However, there’s enough far right that might lick it up. 🙂
I think we grossed out maryb. I’m very ashamed and yet somehow proud.
So now you two have ruined hot dogs AND ice cream for me. <sigh>
It’s the perfect diet. I would never ruin broccoli or water packed tuna.
Come on mary. Give us a favorite food.
We’ll have you never wanting to look at it again. 🙂
these last few days have been almost too much for me … it’s soooooooo exciting! 😉
Good night Olivia, Family Man, maryb, Omir and any lurking birthday girls.
Hope you all have a nice weekend and a safe trip to you maryb.
Night SN.
I’m sure FM is about to sign off too … 🙂
Good night SN … sleep well.
Put em back in the sockets. 🙂
Thanks SN. You have a good weekend too!
I just looked at Orbitz, there are a lot of hotels in Chicago.
Mary I just don’t know how to answer that.
Yes Chicago has a lot of hotels, maybe.
It was really just a statement, not a question. I was just looking to see what the various options were in the general vicinity of the Loop/Magnificent Mile for October.
Although I think the chance of getting a better rate increases toward September when they realize they need to run a few October specials.
Yes Mam.
Oh you worldly traverlers, so in tuned with the accomadations. Isn’t there a motel 8 around.
Would you come if we stayed at a Motel 8? 🙂
Only if it did the any experience thing.
Of course it would have to be a really cheap experience. 🙂
You don’t need a hotel. You can sleep on the train coming up and going back. 🙂
Nah I would get sea sick.
It’s past my bedtime and Olivia be quiet.
See ya’ll in the morning.
Mary be careful. Olivia enjoy tomorrow.
Everyone else enjoy.
Night FM
Now that we’re alone (more or less) did your comment in the Midwest thread mean you’re coming?
No … it meant that IVG was right and we are crazy.
might be a first. We should trash it or something 🙂
Damn, I thought it meant you were committing to coming. I was ready to celebrate.
We’d have to do something pretty spectacular to trash a cafe, you know considering trash is pretty much the norm … 🙂
I’m commited to seriously considering it … how’s that?
since there’s plenty of time for you to decide.
I think Andi and I are going to meet for lunch in August (and Jim — jealous?) in Effingham. It’s about 1/2 way between us. We can plan a few things.
And not just b/c of Jim … lol.
I think it would be fascinating to meet you all in person.
You’re planning things for the Oct meet up?
since we figured out that 1/2 way is only about 2 hours for each of us. Anybody else who wants to come is welcome, but I don’t really expect many people will show up in Effingham IL 🙂
While we’re there we’ll probably plan some meetup stuff. We’ll let Jim decide whether our plans are photogenic enough 😉
I understand that Effingham is the crossroads of opportunity.
to see you there? Effingham is a happenin place (or will be when WE get there).
The last time I was in Central Illinois I got my licence suspended for a couple of years and had to pay something like $1000 in fines. Might be fun.
You might be remembered in Central Illinois. Should I look for wanted posters of you?
I’m somewhat surprised. I didn’t think east coast people voluntarily travelled west of Ohio. 🙂

That settles it — you really DO know the midwest.
That means you MUST come to the midwest meetup.
Chicago, October 7. Mark your calendar NOW.
Chicago might be a bit of a disappointment after Effingham. But, then, what wouldn’t?
But maybe you could cut the town some slack since it’s going to be filled with bootrib froggies.
I’m all for Chicago. It’s very clean and makes me feel as though I’m in a big Toronto. My wife doesn’t care for it so much and she’s the one who makes the money in the family, so it could be a tough sell.
In fact, after talking to me, she might decide to come to the meetup and leave you home.
and anyone else who’s here. How are you doing this evening?
Shoe blogging was great tonight. It was like a shoe travelogue.
I’m so glad you liked it. I had fun making it, too. Thanks for stopping over. You made me literally laugh out loud with that story about the woman who was telling your manager.
She was so affronted with me. I’ve often wondered if she asked for the manager and tried to describe me to him/her.
I’m still chuckling.
BTW, the regular people store with the pre-sale was JCPenney. I didn’t want to mention right in the post.
My old employer. I worked in the coat department though, not shoes. The shoe people worked on commission, the rest of us didn’t.
Those orange shoes WOULD have been great at YKos.
Oh, I never would last in the coat department — I have a weakness for them, too, and they’re expensive.
I only worked in one department store, my third shortest job. I worked for a day in the gift wrapping department of The Broadway, a store since bought by Macy’s. It was right before Christmas and it was a horror.
Quel horreur!
Why am I picturing an I Love Lucy episode?
I wasn’t wild about retail, but it was better than food service.
Why am I picturing an I Love Lucy episode?
Because you’re psychic?
So who’s going to open the new cafe, you or me?
I’ll do it. Give me a minute.
Fine here … How bout yourself? Did it ever cool down there?
I did for a couple of days, but got hot again today. But it was cool earlier on, so I was unprepared when I went out on my walk — it was over 90! A stealth heat wave.
New cafe open now.
