I knew if I didn’t answer you’d do it 🙂
Hey, is that disney world?
So, you were slacking off about slacking? FM would be proud!
It’s one of the Disneys. I just swiped it off the net. I’ll probably wake up tomorrow to one of their attorney’s in my kitchen.
Ask him or her if I can have a job. I’d like to work for the Mouse 🙂
Will you work for “cheese”?
better than working for peanuts 🙂
Well, the engineers are called Imagineers — I wonder what they call the lawyers? Anyway, if they show I’ll ask them for an application right after I get them to make the coffee.
They’re probably called imagination crushers.
If anyone could get them to make coffee, I have no doubt it would be you. Let me know if they wear normal shoes or big mickey-style shoes.
I’m pretty sure they all dress like Agent Smith in The Matrix.
I was raised near Disneyland and they have serious security, too. This one time when I was a teenager, a whole bunch of us went and some guy jumped off the boat onto the treasure island in the Pirates of the Carribean ride. He was whisked away so fast the boat behind us didn’t even see it.
did you ever see him again or is he still doing hard time in the “It’s a Small World” ride?
lol — actually, I never DID see him again! He was with another group of kids that had sort of merged with my group because of a couple of mutual friends, so I didn’t really know him.
I did ask about him after, but no one seemed to know. There was some speculation that his parents might’ve had to come get him, but frankly, I find your Small World theory more plausible.
I beg to differ, lawyers would be called “imagination enhancers”… just don’t imagine anything that hasn’t passed the legal dept. first.
LOL!
I don’t know about your neighborhood, but in mine the kids are already going crazy with the bottle rockets.
So why aren’t you outside joining them..to at least telling them to point the bottle rockets at a vacant house or the local republican poll watcher?
1) I don’t know where it’s coming from; 2) there are no vacant houses; and 3) I’m not sure where the Republicans are. Obviously, I don’t mingle much with the neighbors.
Well hopefully you don’t live in one of those neighborhoods where the covenant says you can only put wood shingles on your roof.
Wood shingles (aka bottle rocket magnets)+ bottle rockets = fire.
It’s 11PM, and they’re still blowing off fireworks out here in the residential neighborhood.
Here, too! The bastards woke me up last night. Tomorrow’s gonna be hell.
so I’m hoping they’ll taper off soon. She’s got a floor fan running for some white noise, but that’s not always enough.
Tomorrow won’t matter too much here as Wed is the beginning of a few days off.
It’s unusually quiet here – so far. The local cops are out in force…chasing drunk drivers and fireworks. Major fire bans and extreme fire danger and they’ve been publishing that anybody gets caught blowing thins up is in deep shite. Max penalty is like 90 days and $1000/per…power to ’em.

I got a gap in my front teeth…can’t do it…:{)
As for the gum…Transylvania has always been a land of the Bizzare…
I hope you’re not revealing more of your nature by linking to that article … that dude was bad. I’ve always found Dracula to be romantic and mesmerizing in a good way … but the real deal is not.
hey, I didn’t see no rabbits impaled anywhere…
I gotta be more careful what I say around here, I see 🙂
Hilarious picture! lol
John

I said I would post these, for KMc and IndyLib so here they are.
The best site is http://www.glutenfree.com/recipes.htm in the Muffin, Scone & Quick Bread Recipes. She likes the Banana Bread and Corn muffins.
I also saw a commercial for this site on Food Network. http://glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com/
She reviews books and recipes.
Good Luck, I hope that this helps!!!!
in case I ever get the chance to cook dinner for Keith Olbermann (aka my imaginary 2nd husband)…
Been laying low today — spouse and I stayed up waaaay too damn late the last couple of nights playing on the computer(s), so as soon as he’s ready to watch Keith on the DVR I’ll be logging off the laptop so we can get to bed at a decent hour. (har har) Tomorrow is busy day — going over to the in-laws for barbecue so I’ve got to go get veggies and dip for the appetizer.
Okay, signing off for the night soon…hope everyone has a safe and (relatively) sane 4th…
Izzy, I went to see “The Devil Wears Prada” while I was in Chicago. It’s a pair of Jimmy Choo’s that sinks the heroine.
Was it good? We’re going to a movie tomorrow I think, and I was wondering if I should lobby for that one. Pffft on the Choos.
Meryl Streep is fantastic.
The guy that plays the heroine’s boyfriend is incredibly cute and you’ll probably know him because he is (according to my sister) on some cable show. But for some reason I didn’t completely buy him as HER boyfriend.
It’s a fun film, with lots of great clothes and shoes. I enjoyed it — but I could never completely suspend disbelief. I mean, why would someone with a degree from Northwestern put up with being the personal assistant (i.e. gopher) to such a nasty person? I don’t buy it. But other than that I enjoyed it.
I just looked it up and it’s the kid from Entourage (not one of my favorite shows). I can see why you didn’t buy it — he’s prettier than her!
Well, it sounds like a movie to see with girlfriends, or maybe my mom. I’m thinking maybe The Da Vinci Code for tomorrow.
It really is more of a chick flick.
I liked Da Vinci code — better than I liked the book in fact.
I’m sleepy from all that sitting in a car, so I’m outa here. Have a great day tomorrow.
You, too! G’night. I’m off for awhile as well — gotta watch Medium.
but the bird had flown, so sorry, dada!!

what’s w/ the big screen? Is that because they’re duplexes?
only here they’re calling them twin-homes. Since each side is owned by a different homeowner, whereas, at least in this city, they define duplexes as both sides being owned by the same owner.
Actually we’re somewhat disappointed in the twin aspect, since the idiot builders have not insulated as well as we expected between the common wall.
So we’re about half ways from apt rental to single family (:
This Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo and several of his/her friends were eating my pinecones this morning. And quite noisily.
for these here parts.
Never have seen one like that before. BTW great photo.
There were somewhere between six and eight of them, but they never held still long enough for me to get an accurate count.
Great shot of the one in flight & the one roosting.
Where were these shots taken? Are these birds indigenous to the area.
The shots were taken in my front yard. I live in Tasmania, as do the birds.
In Tasmania we have Sulpher-crested Cockatoos, Little Corellas (a small white cockatoo with a blue eye ring), Galahs (also known as a Rose-breasted Cockatoos – grey with a pink chest and head), Gang-gang Cockatoos (large dark grey bird with a red head and crest), and the above Yellow-tails.
at least relative to what I’m acquainted with here in ND. I’m having a hard time coming up with a bird I could mention as bizarrely colorful as those.
Keres, I looked them up. I was wondering for a min.
I was in Austrailia in 1975 working for BHP in Whyallah.
I used to tell the Aussies how the town got it`s name. Some even believed me. HAHHARHAHA.
‘The government had hired a middle eastern camel herder to cross the continent from the north down through Alice Springs & on to
Port Augusta, with a herd of camels.
The journey was frought with peril & the heavy rains didn`t help.
He got to port Augusta & asked where Canberra was. A young man told him to head west, but on the road towards Perth he asked again & was told he was going the wrong way. Fed up pi,,ed off & beat, he decided to just stay there while imploring “WHY ALLAH”. And the rest is history.
Btw. I was pouring steel as third ladleman. Really hot work.
The only cockatoos I saw were the pink ones, [gullahs maybe].
I went up to Broken Hill one day & ran into a locust swarm that was so thick, the Holden overheated. The problem was the engine compartment was absolutely filled with locusts. We had to scoop them out with a stick.
Ah, the pink ones! Those are the white ones, usually Long-billed Corellas – tinged a perminent pink by the iron oxide soil.
Very interesting fact about the iron oxide giving the pink tint. Broken Hill is an open pit iron ore mine that`s 30 miles from Whyalah, where I saw many of the birds of which you speak.
What an amazing bird! And this is a great capture with the outstretched wings … 🙂
They are impressively-sized birds, about the same size as most American hawks, and much larger than the more common Sulpher-crested Cockatoos (the white ones) that most people know of.
They are much louder as well. It’s fun to have them visit, which they usually do a few days a month, but to have them all the time would be deafening.
Here`s “My White Brother” a Goffin cockatoo I rescued years ago.
He does all kids of tricks & amazes people with his math tricks.
Definitely a backstreet boy.

What a cutie.
I had seen so many Goffins in the US (I’m from California) and I had just assumed they were from Australia, like the Sulpher-cresteds. But when I got to Australia, no one had ever heard of them. Turns out that they are from Indonesia.
but if my notes are right it’s a “Scarlet Macaw”

It’s red alright – and also at home in Central America, most likely Costa Rica.
The Hakea are starting to flower on the south coast (where we spent the weekend).
All the nectar flowers will be starting to bloom soon, which will bring back the migratory birds.
We planted about a dozen of these in our yard and the paddymelons ate all the leaves off of them. They are now wrapped with chicken-wire guards until they get bigger.
I keep thinking of sea sponge!
Like NDD said, never have seen a black one, didn’t know they made them.
I’ve got a pic of a red one somewhere…all the big birds are really interesting.
I like that railing … was that bird on the other side of the privacy screen?
the “bird’s” nest.
I just installed these 2X2s today. At the rate I’m going I’ll need another year to finish. Well, at least FM will be proud of me, Ha!
larger
So the pic above is the other side of this one? So you really did take a pic of the ‘bird’s nest’? You’re crazy! lol
ah ha! she admits to be confused. Now we’re making progress.
Ah, actually this view is looking SSW. The twin conjoined to us is on the other side, now vacant. The “homeowner” is an investor in CA, and a local company rents it out, which we are not happy about as the development was supposed to be owner occupied… well, so it goes.
The “bird’s” nest is our next door neighbor to the North of us, her’s is the south half of the next twin-home.
I’m genetically predisposed to disseminate confusion, rather than clarity and conciseness:)
So all your previous bird comments are interesting in light of how non-private those back yards are — including the kids’ playthings … hmmmm?
the houses are even closer together. I used to joke that in those houses if you wanted to borrow sugar you could just reach out a window and hand it across. Well, it’s not quite that bad, but close.
So at least this particular development is somewhat better than that. But it’s still too much of a feel of apt living for me.
So it’s lucky that I’ve got the country place too, otherwise I’d go nuts here for sure. Or mostly likely we’d have settled in an older neighborhood to begin with.
You’ve got the best of both worlds I think!
between city and country. In the country I’m an hour from the nearest city movie theater, or any major entertainment for that matter. And an hour one way can be daunting to contemplate when your coming home at midnight at -20F with 20-30mph winds. So several weeks can go by without leaving the domicile.
So the city has its usual entertainment elements, while the country’s entertainment is definitely mostly in the nature dept.
It took me two years of living in the city this last time to get to where the noise level wasn’t constantly bothering me.
And for city dwellers visiting the country… well, sometimes they are unnerved by the quiet.
I like access to both actually. But I find without enough time in the country the spirit begins to wither.
I grew up on 10 acres in the country — actually at the edge of a forest. It took a long time to adjust to living in the city, and I need to get back to the country regularly.
“educational” evening. But my head is getting a little too thick to continue.
So take care if you’re out in the day’s loony traffic. And see you in one of the next FBCs.
I’m going to head off myself as it looks like the others have turned in too … and tomorrow is my Monday -ugh- … Have a fun and safe day everyone.
Sleep well!
G’night as well NDD, hope it stays/becomes quiet for you and Mrs. DD…Happy 4th.
Catch ya on the flip.
Peace
