4’s for all on the 4th
That’s a hell of a watermelon…
Happy 4th to everyone!
It looks like a watermelon cupcake.
Hey, the bi…the humorless one is back! π
Your so cute. Since almost anybody can make me laugh, I’m sure you can do it too. Family Man will help you.
My son said the world hotdog eating contest is on ESPN. They call it Competitive Eating. It’s a sport. The intro said ’emotions are running high.’
LOL!
I bet it’s not emotions, but stomach aches. Is your son going to try to keep up with them as they eat?
First Man Egee, now Family Man? I think the entire Frog Pond is going to become my humor teachers…and for what? To make one person crack a smile? I would think that there are more worthy things to spend our time on. π
I may not be worthy, but I’m worth it π
How old are you anyway?
Me? I’m 20 years old. Probably a baby to you, but age makes everything relative.
I’m not Second Nature, you can’t annoy me by talking about age.
You should come to the meetup in Chicago in October. I was going to say I’d buy you a drink after SN decks you, but you can’t even drink legally yet. Can you? π
I wish, but I’m going to be in school then. I’m in Philly, so there’s a little bit of distance.
As for the drinking legally part…who really cares? Just slide a glass over and I’ll hand you some money under the table. π
It’s Columbus Day weekend and planes exist. And they let 20 year olds fly alone.
Or are you afraid to leave the east coast?
Heh, no, I’m quite alright flying alone. My problems are twofold: first, we don’t get Columbus Day off at Penn. Secondly, I don’t exactly have the money to spend on a flight, a hotel room, and other travel expenses.
It’d be nice to, but I’m a poor college student who will have lots of work to do by mid-October.
whiner
Those of us who work don’t get columbus day off either. And we’re busy too — some of us work weekends regularly.
And you have 3 months to save.
I’ll put SN on your case. π
Heh.
If I get a few more details as to what is going on, perhaps I can start looking at it and figuring out if it is financially feasible and I can fit it into my schedule. With it being October, and a lot of close congressional races around, I’d like to help out at campaigns around the area as much as possible.
Helping out on campaigns is a much better excuse. But you’d better have some good campaign stories for us when we get back. I don’t want to hear that you’ve simply partied away your weekend in Philly when you could be in Chicago where we could abuse you in person.
And I’m still putting SN on your case.
God, you’re such a meanie, Mary! π
As I said, if I could get details about the possible meetup, I might be able to come. My email address is listed right there, if you’re so inclined to let me know the details. π
So far we’ve only picked the date — October 7. Details to be worked out by the end of summer. Still leaving you a month to plan.
But if I were you, I’d pencil it in right now.
And I just looked … if you book now you can fly in and out of Chicago on Southwest all in the same day for about 150 dollars. You get in at 8:00 and don’t leave until 7:30 — so you’d have most of the day with us. And no hotel bills. You’d have to pay for lunch.
See? No excuses.
Where’s he flying from for that price?
Philly — but it’s the super internet saving price of 69 each way. So it will be gone soon.
Yes, YOU should book now too. Are you thinking of bringing the cabin boys or thinking of having the cool babysitters stay for the weekend?
Well, the cool babysitters will be back at school by then…so it might just be a day trip.
I know the date is the only thing that’s firmly settled, but what else do you have in mind for Chicago?
We haven’t decided yet. Planning details is on the agenda for July. But WHAT we do is secondary to who’s going isn’t it? Especially if you’re only going to fly in for the day. We’ll go to lunch somewhere and then do something in the afternoon that we either get a consensus on (or if no consensus exists, Andi and I will decide).
Those of us that are there all weekend will do more.
Here’s a sign that I REALLY want you to come —
It’s 157.10
Depart Oct 07 Sat N/S PHL-MDW 612 Depart Philadelphia (PHL) at 7:00 AM
Arrive in Chicago (MDW) at 8:10 AM

Arrive in Philadelphia (PHL) at 10:30 PM
You can take the El from Midway to the Loop — no Prius is involved π
Wow. Now I feel like I have to come! π
Good, that was the intent. π
You can lead the Philadelphia contingent — work on Psi and Chris.
But remind BooMan that he has to say at least 4 nice things about the midwest before he’s allowed to come.
Hmmm…I can work on Chris at Drinking Liberally…
I’m heading off to the movies (it’s about to rain here). See you all later!
Au contraire, I happen to feel that laughter cures a great many ills. Therefore getting people to laugh is a good thing.
If nothing else, those of us trying to get you to laugh can amuse each other. π
Hi Psi.
Hey there. What’s up?
Not much. You got big plans for the day?
Nope. May go hang out with some friends later, but otherwise, just going to exercise, blog, and go to sleep early because of work tomorrow.
Damn work…
Hey Manny. How’s the day going so far?
quiet morning so far, just got my dad out of the shower and we’re getting ready to head up to Summerhaven on Mount Lemmon. It’ll be a nice getaway from the heat and the city. How about u?
I’m doing fine. Sounds like ya’ll will have a good day. That’s good.
<slurp>
mmmmm, very refreshing. Sorry there’s none left for anybody else π
Except I did save some for SN.
to share it with her like a momma bird feeds her young?
π
I’m off to galavant, have a fantastic day, cafe amigos!
that’s disgusting. Begone silly boy!
Have a great day with your parents! Don’t wear them out.
I haven’t galavanted in years. π
Have fun and remember your parents are very old, so don’t wear them out.
That’s fine, I got burned out on watermellon as a kid.
When you have fields of them around, you tend to overdo.
thanks maryb – we young hotties have to protect each other.
Don’t try and make me laugh too hard, now. π
Don’t mind me, I’m just lazing around until we go over to my s-i-l’s for the afternoon.
That’s one cool-looking centerpiece. My first thought (before I saw the bowl) was, “Carve that out of a watermelon, did you?” and by golly if that’s not exactly what they did.
Hi Omir. How’re ya doing today?
Hi Omir. Did you have yesterday off?
Yes I did. Actually as of Friday I’m between contracts, so I’m taking a couple of days off before I hit the street to see if I can find me a new gig.
I’m in such a foul mood that I’ve decided I must buy something. See you all later.
Buy something for me too while you’re out. I suspect you probably can’t afford a senator, so how about some kettle-cooked potato chips and garlic dip?
Morning all. I hope everyone is having a good 4th of July.
The 4th is a bit weird for me because today is my birthday. It’s lots of fun growing up with big parties and fireworks and parades and stuff. As I got older and more political, my birthday took precedence over the national holiday. So, if you don’t like to celebrate the holiday, do me a favor and hoist a beer (or whatever is your pleasure) for me. :>)
Birthday cupcakes for everyone!
Thanks Mary! Those look perfect for sharing.
I hope you have a great day. And I’m glad to run into you today. Sorry I was in such a foul mood last time we hung out here. I didn’t mean to take it out on you.
Thanks Mary. You had a right to be upset. I must admit that I was a bit taken aback and have kind of avoided the cafe since. So thank you, your post is a really nice gift. :>)
((Kamakhya)) I’m really sorry.
I wish you lived closer to the midwest. Any chance you could come to Chicago for the October meetup? I know it’s far for you. And it takes so long coming from the west. But you gain time going back.
It’s not terribly likely, even though I would love to go. The San Diego meet-up was fabulous and I would love to meet some of you more distant Tribbers. But, I’m not going to rule it out. Chicago’s a great city.
Welcome back from chi-town. Hope you had a good time.
I saw Toni in the cafe last night and told her about the meet-up. She wants to come but isn’t sure yet whether they can (depending on school stuff mostly).
Welcome back from … wherever you went. Where did you go?
Toni at last! Is she back from vacation? I hope she works it out to come.
I went to Evansville, Indiana.
Yup, she’s back and it seems that everybody survived Andrew’s first long car trip in good form.
what is that? 20 miles from you? You and Jim lead such exciting lives π
I think they bicycle there everyday don’t they? π
and Jim stayed home. This was a college chums get together — it’s our third year doing it and we decided to make this the nostalgia trip (we went to U of E).
and surprisingly you’re right π
I guess I forgot how far south Evansville is.
I’m glad you had a good nostalgic weekend. And didn’t get arrested.
Evansville is pretty much a crap city and I wouldn’t have gone back there except for the quality of the company but I fell in love with the Ohio River during the 8 years I was there (Jim and I stayed until we both got our Masters) and it rewarded me with a very nice sunset.
The French called the Ohio River Belle Riviere — Beautiful River. (Actually that’s what the Indians called it — but not in French). They were right.
and I saw you’ve got a family gathering in a bit. Hope the weather is nice for it.
See you later.
Have some cake and make a wish!
Why thank you Andi! It even has the right number of candles, if you multiply by 5. :>)
as it relates to birthdays, we never multiply, only subtract.
Happy B’day Kamakhya. There’s never enought cake.
Hope you have a glorious B’day and holiday.
Thanks FM! It’s a lovely cake. Have no fear, I am having a great day, slacker style!
Then I couldn’t ask for more.
Slack away! π
Happy Birthday!!
I raise my glass of water to you in a toast.
May your days start and end in peace and full of love.
XOXOXO
Glass of water? OK what have ya’ll done with DJ?
PodPerson!!!! π
Glad you’re having water. Back in the days when I used to fast for Yom Kippur, I never had any trouble doing without food but drinking nothing for 24 hours was really, really hard (but it did lead to much more frequent teeth brushing).
Liquids are needed in this heat… but I’m at home.
I’m hearing word that there are arrests in DC. Most of my friends are in Portland… and I haven’t heard from Katie yet… So going off a link I found in Kos.
Happy Birthday! Shall I bring a cake? π
My granddaughter’s mother was born on Christmas, so we always made sure we had Christmas presents in the morning and birthday presents in the afternoon. I just barely missed St. Patrick’s Day, which is fine with me because I don’t think I would have cared to be named Patrick. Not that I would have, actually, but it makes a good story.
Been missing you in the late night FBL.
(Olivia still hasn’t come up with a good story…)
When are you coming to ND for a visit?
HAPPY B-DAY!!!
Been missin’ ya in the FBL Late Nighter…stop by, drinks are free ya know.
Enjoy
Happy birthday!
Got to run real fast. OK walk slowly.
Brother is here to pick up Nephew.
My old diary renewed today over at Kos
Nephew is gone and George has finally stopped barking.
I feel a major slack session coming one.
See ya’ll later.
Heyas to all, and a happy birthday to ya, Kamakhya!!! I don’t have cake, but I have explosive things I can share with you and the rest here!
Howdy, Mary, Andi, Psi, CG, FM, NDD, ManEE, SN, now who did I miss? Oh yeah! {{{DJ}}}!!!
Hope everyone is having a relaxing 4th… I’m tending to household stuff (laundry, yard work) for the afternoon, then we’re having a few folks over for burgers, brats and such this evening, along with the above pictured contraband! (Lucky Mary, it’s all legal down your way… gotta love MO for something!) Trying to keep it a bit more low key this year due to increased police presence (we got nabbed shooting off a few things Sat night, lol) but so far they’re apparently being mellow about it.
Anyway, have to take off to tend to laundry a bit, but I’ll check back in a few minutes to see who’s still around… Hope everyone has a BANG-UP day planned!!
for that…esp. if they go BANG!.
Back from a long hike w/ the Bu before the pm t-strms start…she went straight to her ‘cool corner’ in the gar and prob. won’t be seen till dinner. Shower’s in order and then prep for the evening bbq and a bunch of beer…
Enjoy the fun…we’ll watch the fireworks at the U stadium…it’s about a half mile, as the crow flies, downhill from here so the view of the aerial displays isn’t too bad…Bu will not be pleased.
Enjoy
Hey there dada! You made my day … and yes, Rolly will be hating “explosion day” as we call it around here. He freaks out at smoke bombs that make no noise, so we’ll be keeping him inside this evening till the trembling subsides. Pepa actually likes watching the flashy stuff, but hates those little party poppers with the streamers… those are the only things she objects to.
Great day here, just 81 and sunny … we had some more rain come through last night so everything is well watered for the time being. Now, if the weeds would just go away….
Hope you have a great bbq and beer bust dada, and make sure you give Bu extra treats! Ours will be getting the regular food plus a hot dog from the grill, and a cup of Frosty Paws for dessert… see you later!
seems like it’s been while since you graced the late FBL.
Hope you have a great 4th!
Make sure those tubes stay vertical when ya touch’m off.
A friend of mine was telling about one last year that had tipped over and was blowing fireballs under the neighbor’s auto. They couldn’t set it up again ’cause everytime they got close another shot would go off.
The border collie I had didn’t care much for the explosions either, whether fireworks, lightning, or the aught six. If in the house, she used to go hide in the bathroom, where we’d kept her corralled as a puppy.

See you in the Late Night if yer about.
Peace
at least that’s my reply these days to “U 2”, ha!
“ya think she’s tryin’ to tell us something…:{)” -dada
hey, I missed it first time around, so maybe she was just trying to tell you something…
ha ha ha ha π
Happy 4th to all! (as darkness and thunder descends outside)
Happy hour open!
