This Fourth of July is the first in about a decade that I won’t be spending on my parent’s roof in Fairmount, watching Philadelphia’s fireworks show over the Philadelphia Museum of Art. My wife hasn’t been feeling well lately and my parents, in recent years, have taken to inviting all of the regulars from their corner bar. Lovely people to be sure, but I’ve found that I prefer seeing them at the bar. The Phillies have a fireworks show in South Philly, tomorrow night and the next, which I will have a very good view of from my roof deck, so all is not lost. Happy Fourth of July! I hope everybody is having a good holiday.

I hope your wife feels better soon and that the 2 of you enjoy the S Philly fireworks show.
I’m sorry your wife is feeling poorly.
I’ll be sitting in my living room tonight, watching the fireworks show at Denver’s New Mile High stadium (just can’t call it Invesco Field at Mile High–sounds too much like a gated community). I’m north of the stadium with an unobstructed view. The cats don’t like fireworks much, but I’m looking forward to it.
I’ll be sitting in air conditioned comfort listening to the fireworks at the fairgrounds, about 8 miles away. No parking hassles, no godawful heat and no bugs, but it leaves a lot to be desired as far as visuals.
…and remember to designate a driver. DUI is how some people’s criminal record begins.
Excellent advise. I always say that if you can’t find a designated driver and you need one on a regular basis, you shouldn’t be living and drinking in a place where you need a car to get around.
That’s why I drink in my bathtub 🙂
Also, I hope you spouse fees better real soon!
She blew thru town on the 4th. of July
red, white and blue, guns a’blazin’……
Have a good evening and enjoy the show Chris; whatever it might be.
Later
Peace
Git yer motor running!!! 🙂
Hey Chris,
Sorry to hear your wife isn’t feeling well.
Check THIS out. Just click on the arrow. This guy will be at the Blues Festival this weekend. I like a little Boogie in my Blues myself.
I call that butt wiggling music 🙂
I like a little Boogie in my Blues myself.
For some reason that made me think of the words to P. Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) and now it’s stuck in my head and I can’t sleep. This is all your fault.
This is my first fireworks holiday without my dog. I’ll miss watching him go absolutely bonkers at the sounds.
Of course, if I had been a good mommy, I suppose I would have just left him inside so he couldn’t hear the racket.
But that wouldn’t have been any fun for me, now would it?
Happy 4th to all!
Healing wishes to your wife. Maybe she’d feel better if she saw the PANDA in today’s News Bucket.
I hurt my back on Sat. and have spent the entire 4-day weekend in a bit of pain. I’m supposed to be packing and cleaning for my impending move. Sigh. My friend just called me a told me she bought me a birthday cake and her family invited me over for my birthday celebration. How could I say no! So instead of sitting on my ass and feeling sorry for myself, I’m heading over there and maybe will stay to watch the fireworks from her roof. Yippee. I’m sure it will beat sitting home and I should do something for my big 40. :>) I feel blessed to have such a good friend and a site like this to keep me motivated!
We miss you in the late night cafe… Hope you stop by soon!
Thanks O. I will be back soon with more stories to share. :>)
Happy Birthday Kamakhya L :o)
Did you know that 40 is the new 30? ;o)
When I turned 40 someone told me that they had a tradition in Germany that once you turn 40 you’ve lived long enough to have something interesting to say. So they pay special attention to what those 40 and over have to say.
Kamakhya, we listening…..
And Happy Birthday!
That is so cool. I hope I have some wisdom to impart beyond “never hitchhike through Utah”! :>)
Sadly, 30 is the new 78. All of these 40 year olds trading in a decade has to get paid off somewhere and some people are getting mighty pissed about the results. Fortunately for the 40 year olds, the now 78 year old 30 year olds don’t move as fast as they used to.
LOL…I am really looking forward to my 40’s. I think it will be a really good decade for me. :>)
Happy birthday, Young One. 40? Pfft. On the other hand, they say you’re as young as your back, so I’m wishing for you a 20 year old back.
Chris, I hope your wife feels better soon. Maybe a rodent picture would help her feel better? Although I like guinea pigs, my favorite is the prairie dog. Especially a lazy prairie dog 🙂
He looks as if he just crawled out of a mud wrestling pit. You should see the other guy. ((Hi,Maryb))
((hi kansas))
That’s one laid back prairie dude. CUUUTE, too.
You know, I found out just the other day that she doesn’t think rodents are cute. Spend 14 years with somebody and you think you know everything about them, but apparently not. The horror! Nice looking rodent all the same.
I overscheduled last weekend and the coming one as well but forgot to plan something for today and am feeling a bit blue and lonely. I have to work tomorrow anyway. I will be going out to the corner to hang out with the neighbors while they shoot off some fireworks in a bit. Maybe that will be enough. Glad y’all are here!
your spouse is down with the creeping crud or whatever — I dated a Jewish dude many moons ago and he had a wonderful Yiddish word for it that for the life of me I can’t remember.
Was supposed to go to the in-laws for a barbecue, but I was a bit under the weather today (must be something going around) so spouse rescheduled it for Saturday; we’re settling in to watch our fireworks on the TV — got “A Capitol Fourth” on in the background right now, then later we’ll catch the Boston Pops’ annual broadcast, with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith (!!!) performing with the Pops. That I’ve gotta see…
K — happy 40; the spouse celebrated his 50th (!!!) on our recent vacation. Hugs to you and your right-on young woman… 😉
I love creeping crud, I hope you don’t mind too much, but I’ll have to steal it from you.
So sorry about your wife, Chris. Hope she’s back on her feet very soon!
As for me, I’m happy to report that I had one of those fulfilling types of days. Had planned to spend the afternoon going out and doing something with my mother-in-law, who recently came out of major surgery (in which it was touch and go, and we almost lost her for a couple days two weeks ago) But, she was completely drained, so I fell back on pampering mode, cooking her favorite “feast” of crab stuffed mushrooms, Greek salad and baby back ribs. (Upon my arrival, I think there had been quite a bit of anticipation, as the table was set, and my in-laws were both sitting in front of their placed settings when I got there….and yes….admittedly, I was about 1/2 an hour late, seeing as my cooking ego wanted to make sure the ribs were falling off the bone tender – I have a reputation to uphold and all ;^)
Had a lovely visit, with no others unexpectedly showing up on the scene, (my dream environment for in-law visits – with no one there, other than me and the parents ;^), then came home to a neighborhood filled with fireworks. Grabbed myself a Guinness, and sat outside to enjoy. Very good day, indeed!
Happy Birthday K!
g’night
