Helloooo….is it just me and the west coast crickets in here again? The last cafe closed while I was posting.
Had a wonderful hike in the woods with two local herbalists-so much variety! Hillsides covered with wildflowers, babbling brooks, mountain meadows, 4′ tall ferns! Realized that I probably haven’t been out hiking since I went trekking in Nepal nearly 10 years ago-this was of course not as hard.
It was on the southern slope of Mt. Hood (I think) near where the historic Barlow road was and also close to a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. Are you in Oregon/on the west coast?
I’ll bet you even knew that the next thing I was going to say was, “Goodnight.” All this talk of why I’m up so late has made me realize I’m up so late.
Hey ND. Well, I still work…no rest for the weary and all that! :>) My kid goes to a free summer school program for middle schoolers called Aim High. It’s pretty cool. It’s half school and half going out and having fun.
no ac here either, arrived to house at 90F, now about 82, outside temp at 62F, but very little breeze, as it’s from the N and trees in the way, which of course is fine in the winters.
Yes! I’d much rather have it cool — cold — and snuggle up w/ the duvet to keep warm. The best is when there’s a cool breeze blowing the curtains a little.
according to that pronunciation it’s most likely of Fr origin, eh?
Well, I can’t say I know every word in the US English Dictionary, but it’s not too often I run across new ones… except when reading something like the New Yorker, or Nation magazines where they seem to get off on being East Coast intellectual types. And make it all as obtuse as possible, regularly running sentences to paragraph length.
No wonder it’s so easy for Rove to split the population.
There is no magazine I know of, or any other print media publishing a “readers digest” level political mag to present our side and pull people left.
LOL…sadly, no. Just around the block, really. A very short move and I don’t plan on taking much more than my way too huge book collection, momentos, and a couple of pieces of furniture. I want new everything, damn it. :>)
LOL..after the taste I got (in 3 second soundbites), I had to agree! No where near as good as the history of dancing. I can;t wait for my new place, though, as I plan on getting high speed internet. Finally!
I had a long week getting ready for our 2 household annual yard sale.
Hundreds of people return every year & I still get emails from people , who , on vacation in the area had stopped by & spent an hour or so, listening to my stories & showing them some of my collections. It`s always a great time, but very fatigueing. One of my girlfriends died at noon Fri. She was diagnosed only 13 weeks ago with acute lukemia. I had just sent her “THE PURPLE CARROUSEL” on Thursday, so I guess she grabbed the brass ring. Wally came by to see me today also which was quite the reunion. I saved Wally`s life a few years ago & nursed him back to health for a week. He was choking & I did the “Heimlich?” on him but it didn`t work .He was immediately brought to medical care & I then took care of him & wastched over him till the crisis passed A week later he was fine. He surprised me when he ran up & grabbed my arm & started howling. This is my friend Wally , a wolf. http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3158/myfriendwallydscn85067ep.jpg
Just meant to say both sets of art work are impressive as viewed on computer but I would expect them to be even much more so in person.
With regards to the wolf, I had a “dog” I bought some 30 years ago in Canada. Then went to Alaska with him. Most everyone I met there thought he had wolf blood in him. And I saw the spittin’ image of him mounted in a musuem in Fairbanks, labeled “Artic Wolf”.
Natchuk had a peculiar trick he used to pull on everone who took him for a walk. You had to keep your eye on him continuously. If for a split second you lost sight of him, the next thing you knew you were on your back looking at the sky, as he’d come full bore from behind, clip you behind the knees, and you’d end up on your back on top of him, on top of his rib cage. Never seemed to bother him.
I do believe that he thought this was very funny. I doubt there was a time we went out when this did not happen. I always lost concentration, then whammo. I had a nice view of the sky.
When I was farming I’d have a rag in my back pocket, he used to sneak up behind me and steal it, then run off just far enough, tease me to come and get it.
I used to sneak up on him however when he was sleeping, especially if it was cold, he slept very soundly. Then I’d grab hold of his hide from the back like I was attacking him. But I had to be carefull ’cause when he woke up, he woke up in fighting mode, until he realized who it was, ha!
At about two months old he already had the sharpest little teeth. You really had to be careful not to get in the way of them. He never ever actually bit me though.
Upon rereading your comment I now take it to believe that I can see them in 3D but you`re seeing them on your monitor. Correct?
The African masks have much more intrigue to them I think. I see them along with other African masks & sculptures I have & I never tire of admiring those unknown ladies.
… for any late night froggies.

Hey, ‘soup! I just got here, too. The hike sounds wonderful — what area was it in?
It was on the southern slope of Mt. Hood (I think) near where the historic Barlow road was and also close to a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. Are you in Oregon/on the west coast?
Yup — the Mt. Hood area is gorgeous. I’m glad you had a nice hike.
Helllooooo. . . .
Heeeeyyy theeeeeere…
Whew! I thought I was all alone in this dark cave! Did you bring flashlights?
Sure — did you bring chocolate?
So why are you up so late? (not that it’s all that late in my view)
This is so funny. I started to add “chocolate,” after flashlights, but then I literally thought, no, let Izzy do that.
Do you ever think we begin to know each other TOO well on this thing called a blog? 🙂
Why am I up late. Because in a cave this dark it’s impossible to tell if it’s day or night. What’s your excuse?
Did you bring the wine?
It’s the shank of the evenin’, darlin’.
And, actually, it’s way too hot here to think about sleeping right now. Actually, forget the chocolate, too — I need ice cream.
Okay, so it’s not exactly a flashlight…
Laughing so hard!
Because I knew you’d want to know. . .
And saved me from asking. Maybe we DO know each other too well! Spooky.
I’ll bet you even knew that the next thing I was going to say was, “Goodnight.” All this talk of why I’m up so late has made me realize I’m up so late.
Night, Iz. Don’t let the cave bats bite.
Thanks, kansas — sweet dreams!
My bed is calling me and I must answer-goodnight all!
G’night, ‘soup. Hope you sleep well.
Nigh, soup. Does soup sleep in a refrigerator?
Interesting coincidence — the spouse and I stopped to get ice cream on the way home from dinner… 🙂
About to shut down and have said ice cream, then get a good night’s sleep for once (hopefully)…
Nighty-night, all…
Hey, Cali — sleep well! And, um, enjoy the ice cream <turning green>
Hey all. Anyone still up? Any good stories?
what are you and your daughter doing for entertainment this summer?
Hey ND. Well, I still work…no rest for the weary and all that! :>) My kid goes to a free summer school program for middle schoolers called Aim High. It’s pretty cool. It’s half school and half going out and having fun.
I’m up … barely.
Hi O. Yeah, I am rapidly loosing steam. :>)
Ugh. The ac is not working … 🙁
no ac here either, arrived to house at 90F, now about 82, outside temp at 62F, but very little breeze, as it’s from the N and trees in the way, which of course is fine in the winters.
Are you surprised? 🙂
Same here — it’s cooled down outside, but the house is still so hot. I’m a sweaty hot miserable mess.
Good to see you arrived safely.
It’s tolerable for me here that it is down around 35, I think. ‘course I haven’t tried sleep yet.
I don’t sleep worth a damn if it’s hot. And heat will wake me up if I’ve started out cool.
It’s absolutely quiet out here tonight. Not a bird, not sound of wind in the trees, nothing.
Looks like we’er working up to a full moon too. Ya happen to know what day?
And the humidity here is 78% now.
I’m the same way as you — can’t sleep if hot and will wake up too.
Great, then it will still be out pretty close to full on the 12th, as I have some guests staying that evening.
Now for the true test: Would you be know for cracking a window for some fresh air whilst sleeping in winter time.
for your guests.
Yes! I’d much rather have it cool — cold — and snuggle up w/ the duvet to keep warm. The best is when there’s a cool breeze blowing the curtains a little.
In case you’re being serious, here’s a link (it’s a pic tho … dialup beware).
I love my down duvet — it’s like being wrapped in a cloud. Another negative about warm weather — can’t use it cause it’s too hot.
I think it’s the same as what we’d call a “down comforter,” right. And thus I’ve discovered another new <b<Canadian</b> word.
is it pronounced doo vay, or doo vet?
Didn’t realize that it was a Cdn word … 🙂
according to that pronunciation it’s most likely of Fr origin, eh?

link …
I think you like that stuff tho — word usage, phrases and where (how) they are used. You seem to have an ear and memory for that sort of thing.
my mother was an English teacher prior to my birth.
And she’d studied some French. So that’s likely the origin of my interest in language elements.
With a nice down comforter, yes. But, I hate shivering in my sleep too. :>)
Ugh…no ac here either…it’s still in he 70’s, which is still too hot for me.
But in another hour, it will be ok.
For some ungodly reason, I am trying to download the youtube hasselhoff garbage on my dial-up. Why???? :>)
Sounds like 1/2 school 1/2 fun would be a fine way for a youngster to spend the summer.
I think other than seeing An Inconvenient Truth lately, and visiting with RL friends, BT is my main diversion.
I gave up on the damn thing. It was too gruesome to bear!
I’m moving at the end of August, so basically my summer is getting ready for that. KamaKid’s summer school is fun for her and it keeps her sharp.
LOL…sadly, no. Just around the block, really. A very short move and I don’t plan on taking much more than my way too huge book collection, momentos, and a couple of pieces of furniture. I want new everything, damn it. :>)
It’s not worth it … 🙂
LOL..after the taste I got (in 3 second soundbites), I had to agree! No where near as good as the history of dancing. I can;t wait for my new place, though, as I plan on getting high speed internet. Finally!
Hi speed is so nice … Can’t believe I waited for so long. You’ll love it.
Anyone left?
We’re lamenting on the heat … and lack of ac.
Anyone left. Hell, we’re all on the left.
Besides riling up the orange hornets nest… and commuting to the study location, what do you find to entertain yourself with on weekends?
Mask your feelings.

How ya been?
Those are neat masks.

I can imagine the stories you’d have to share — not surprised people would love that. And Wally’s beautiful.
I’m sorry to hear about your friend’s death.
Oh, Knucklehead! What a beautiful fellow! Was he all wolf?
I love the first set. The second is not quite my style, but still lovely.
I’m tuckered all. I’m heading for sleep and pleasant dreams. Take care.
and what a fascinating contrast between the two concepts of “mask.”
And no doubt there’s a much greater depth of emotion involved in the viewing of the 3d versions vs. digital CRT display.
I don`t understand what difference you`re talking about. If you mean their physical state, they are both three dimensional sets of objects.
here in the wee hours.

I remember you mentioned this trick of his before.
He had some other wolf characteristics.

Big, playful … you sneaking up on him sounds a little hazardous though! 🙂
I know the sun is not rising yet in Ottowa, but ya think we ought to try sleep?
Sweet dreams NDD … Have a good Sunday!
Nice visiting with you once again. Sleep well Olivia!

I’m operating at 28.8K tonight out here in the ND boonies, very frustrating, as I am used to 1.5M or whatever it is on cable in the city.
I really need to get on a healthier sleep schedule, I’ll start on Monday 🙂
