May the 4’s be with you
We’ve got gallons of this stuff. Take a dive in.
Alas, it’s not an option for me. 10 years on November 22.
Bizarre. Ten years without a drink.
But now I have blogging.
: )
Hi Maryscott it so nice to see you. I’ve been years also without, but I talk a good game. π
How excellent to see ya in the cafe today. π
We’ve got a resident ice cream maker if you’re into ice cream…
Where is this resident ice cream maker of which you speak.. of.
π I LOVE ICE CREAM!!!!
So many fresh fruit farms here, non-spray and even some organic, I’m thinking of getting an ice cream maker just for it. One that will make sorbet, frozen yogurt, too.
He’s become an ice cream making machine! π
Just made another batch and put it in the freezer.
How’d the process go this time … was it following the recipe? Did you have to cook any of it? Flavours …
Didn’t have any heavy cream, so I made a no cook recipe. Just plain vanilla this time, but I do have those little chocolate morsels and toasted coconut to put into it.
I think this week I’ll see what fresh fruit is around and try some with that.
I need an ice cream maker that would produce about 5 gallons at a time. This one quart thing is going to fast.
…when you get up every hour of the night and eat a bowl! Won’t last long that way … π
Vanilla eh? Well, I suppose that’s okay — not as exciting as chocolate though. π
I’ve got the chocolate morsels though. Once this one freezes up some I’m waiting to see how it turns out. The last one was good, but it was almost too rich.
Ok, I’m on board w/ that FM … Great plan! How ’bout strawberry ice cream … that might be tasty … π
Nah, I can’t handle strawberry or peach. Maybe cherry.
Something like blueberry w/ hint of chocolate! I like chocolate and blueberries…
That wouldn’t be bad. So many gallons to go. π
Family Man?!?!?! Anything to get out of mowing the lawn, eh? π
Whatever you do.. skip the waffle cone of Pond Snake Ripple. π
I’d rather eat ice cream any day than mow the lawn.
No snake ripple for me. π
No Crocodile Rock..ee Road either :0)
No reptile ice cream, but I’m still trying to figure out how to make 80 proof ice cream.
For some reason the still recipe and ice cream recipe don’t mix well. π
More ice cream for you to wave your dirty socks over eh?? π
I’ve been thinking about it. Family Mom is starting to like this ice cream to much. But with her all I’ve got to say is George licked the top of it.
There are no rules concerning ice cream. Plus it’s bad for her, well not really bad, but it’s less for me. π
You could make fruit frozen yogurt for FMom and the decadent stuff for yourself.
I don’t know on that. I can’t even get FMom to eat turkey bacon. It’s sort of like when the girls were small, you had to sneak in the stuff good for them.
FMom sounds like a smart woman to me … π
Yeah sometimes. I keep trying to get her to eat healthy, but she won’t listen.
Actually I’m trying to horde all the cholesterol for myself. π
hard to make alcohol ice cream as alcohol doesn’t freeze. Reason no one has come out with raspberry daquirie or Baileys and Cream Ice cream… however… you can put liquor into TOPPINGS.
Nope. This will be the million dollar idea.
I see a lot of experimenting going on thought. π
Yum!
ahhh but it’s the FLAVORing. It’s not alcohol.
My exact thoughts. π
however you might want to focus on alcoholic gelatos. π
No I like your idea of proving adulthood to purchase ice cream. More for me. π
I mean if it was intoxicating… you’d have to have ID to purchase it… actually I’m confused now and not sure of anything at this second. π
Sure it freezes, you just have to get it down to -117° Celsius. Which is . . . um, hold on, add 32, multiply by . . . it’s a lot.
You’d have to do some kind of mondo bizarro molecule that contains the alcohol within a frozen drop of something else. Something the size of a Dippin’ Dot (if you’re familiar with those), but with a 100 proof center. Figure out how to do that and you would indeed be an instant millionaire.
I’d be your designated licker! π
OHHHH that sounds bad!!! π
LOL it did. π
I wouldn’t be able to eat the stuff, since I don’t do alcohol, but boy, I’d sure be happy to spend the royalties from the patent.
That was the main thing I was thinking about. π
My hope is one day modern science will crack that egg and we’ll have martinis on a stick.
Yeah, but as things stand now your tongue would stick to them, or worse.
Still, the image of a bunch of grownups sitting around getting swacked with popsicles in their hands has a certain strange appeal to it. π
Yeah if we could come up with that discovery, Bill Gates would be the second richest man in the world. π
Blogging is a far healthier addiction. It’s one of the things that keeps me from starting up on Marlboro Reds again.
Any hoo, I’m getting ready to step away from the computer for a few days. This week I’ve got a couple days in OKC on university business, and then this weekend we get ready to head out to the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
I’ll probably be able to check out blogtopia (yes, skippy I know) a bit late this week, and then off and on at the in-laws’.
Peace.
Hi Maryscott!~!!!
Where is everybody. A new cafe and for people on dial-up a faster loading cafe.
Depending on the stupid scale, I could answer yes or no. π
You know, if it’s a regional word.
I never had heard of it before. I’ve heard of quilts, comforters, and beddekkers, but not that.
Then again, I’m not that much in to shopping around for linens.
Look at all the names you’ve got there …
But just so you know, fine linens make all the difference. You know that ad you made up last night about your ice cream, well the ‘smooth as silk over bare skin’ thing works for fine linens as well as ice cream … π
I think we lost dada and NDD somewhere.
I think we lost them too.
I almost chocked from laughing a minute ago. Family Mom is more afraid of spiders than Manny. I heard he yell down in the living room, and for an 80 year old woman that doesn’t get around that well, she can move when she wants to. π
Nothing like hairy spiders to get one’s adrenaline flowing.
Yeah I took care of it. Spiders don’t bother me, except if it a horror movie sized spider. Since I’ve never seen one that size, no problem.
π
I have to head out for a minute, Family Mom is calling.
Back in a little bit.
project and some grub for the carpenter.
I’m watching the World Cup final. Italy looks exhausted, and France had a few good chances towards the end.
I’m gonna have to get moving’ here, so stay cool and I’ll catch up later.
Before I lose the link, here’s a short film ya might enjoy that I put up in another diary yesterday that didn’t get the traffic it deserved;
The Dubya Movie…may require QT, if you’re “m$ windows”, free download HERE.
Enjoy
Later
Peace
Enjoy dada. Look for ya later.
That is funny as hell. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Howdy folks!!!! I ahve been having a really quiet day except doing the podcast this am. I have napped and watched cartoons and blown up chickens with my crazy computer game. LOL
Happy afternoon, guys. I just saw the Superman movie and enjoyed it a lot. It’s a good script for the theme of passing the torch.
I drank WAYYYYYYYYY too much last night. ACK
Those Parrot Bay Rum drinks… by Capt Morgan are TOO damn good!
Wesley at graduation with the martial artist “Raphael” from TNMT fame. The PE teacher who was voted by every student to gave the graduation speech. He spoke of effort and integrity. It was an amazing speech.
Wesley graduated and also was awarded a high honor for PE. Track. The boy can run like the wind.
He’s learning a very hard to learn lesson.
Being YOU… is very cool.
Wesley looks great and so happy.
Congrats to you and Wesley.
but the Congrats are all to him.
He looks happier in the pix with the “ladies”. So many female friends. ACK!!!
I’m thinking of taking a break from the blogosphere for a couple of months to sort out some life issues.
((((((((((MythMother))))))))))) I hope things get straightened out and that you are able to return to us.
I have to take breaks from blogs during the week. And about every other weekend π
Take care and please feel free to email me azulism—at—yahoo—dot–com
Thanks, DJ!
I’m not sure taking a break is the right answer for me now, but I’m troubled by the fact that my “writing energies” are not going towards projects that are deeply meaningful to me. The FBL was key to my survival through an abusive job situation. The response and the moral support was essential to transcending that situation and moving my life into a better place. I am so grateful for the support and the healing energy that was sent my way, and hold it as an example of what can be accomplished by a truly exceptional and loving community in the blogosphere.
However, I have noticed that my life has changed and the FBL has gone off in a different direction and very often the comments that I post in the FBL don’t get any responses at all, so I wonder if the big finger in the sky is pointing me in another direction? Maybe it’s time to take a break from BT (and DK) and refocus my writing energies.
I know there are some very successful writers on this forum and I really respect them and enjoy their contribution immensely. But maybe since I’m not able to advance my own writing projects, I need to find ways to refocus and redefine that writing energy.
Like everyone else, there’s little time or energy left over in my life — after dealing with basic survival issues — to invest in projects and goals that I personally really care about. But I know if I need to take a break all of you wonderful, beloved froggies will still be here when I get back again and I will always think of you with humility and gratitude!
The cafes are reeeeeaaallllly slow the past couple of weeks because everyone has summer plans, etc.
I would really miss you if you left! But real life is more important.
π
because you think you aren’t appreciated here because you most certainly are. I know that I haven’t been spending as much time in the cafe and a lot of other people haven’t as well — summer just seems to offer too many distractions.
OTOH, if you want to concentrate on doing something that you feel is important to you, then I can’t think of a better reason to cut back on the time you spend here.
You don’t need it but you have my support for whatever decision you make.
I bounce around these blogs in a weird dance.
Sometimes my ass goes numb from not leaving the net. LOL Other times I look at my computer with a sense of dread or contempt. Other times I try not to look at it because I KNOW that if I go o “just to check” I’ll be at it for hours.
I march and protest so that life will be worth living and I just can’t live while on the net so much.
But… it’s where my friends are. It’s how I meet new friends..
and OH MY GAWRSH.. I just got a phone call from Lt. Watada phone bank. There’s more actions going to take place. See… I’ll have more blogging to do and I hope… we both can work on our lives together.
(((((((MM))))))))))) plus, it’s crazy during the summer I think for the blogmunities. My kids are here at home from school and although they are both evil… they are sometimes fun to hang out with.
I’m so sorry if I’ve missed your posts. It’s so hard to catch up in the cafes. But I know like right now… I’m worried batshit loony over Wilderness Wench and I know I’ll be the same worried about you.
On WW, SN told me that there was a comment about Wilderness Wench last weekend when I was gone that said everything was okay with her and I just went and searched for it. Here it is.
Thanks π
MM I know I would really miss you and your wonderful pictures and just knowing how you are. But RL is always more important. Whether you take the time off or you’re just thinking about it, you’ll be in my thoughts.
I’m going to echo the others above who’ve pointed out the slowness of the cafe — it’s really hit and miss these days. I hope you don’t feel ignored in any way! I do miss seeing you in the late night cafes, but I know now that you’ve started w/ the new job you haven’t had as much time to while away the night with us. But that has sort of tapered off as well. IVG has been refocusing offline so maybe we’re all taking time to recharge. (And if I may be so bold to say that I know he will miss you very much!) But, only you know what is best for you. I hope that you do pop in from time to time to let us know how you are and I wish only the best for you! {{{{mm}}}}
I’m going to reply to myself to try to get everyone’s thoughts in here. DJ, and AndiF, and olivia, and SN, and FM, thank you so much for checking in. It’s important to have the perspective on the cafe that things change during the summer with everyone having different life scenarios to deal with. I know how important it is to have special time to spend with those evil children LOL!
I have noticed a slacking off on responses to my comments but please do not think that I in any way take it personally. As a rule I try not to take things personally, and of course also appreciate that I am a relative newcomer who has been welcomed and nurtured by this community and there is still lots for me to learn about it.
Mainly I am struggling with life issues as to why I have 20 unproduced screenplays and 3 unpublished novels abd countless poems collecting dust on the shelves in my closet and am not doing anything to move these projects forward. Of course I have struggled and beat my sensitive writer’s head to a bloody pulp against the stone wall of getting produced and/or published for so many years that it is no longer even possible to lick my wounds and regroup anymore.
So I need a different strategy and it has been a very positive experience and exercise for me as a writer to be conversational on this forum and to have other conversational voices to interact with. On the other hand, if I have unrealized goals as a writer, then I need to discipline and focus and reflect on how my daily behavior and activities are effecting these goals or if the goals themselves need to be revisited and revised so that I can feel at peace with myself. So that is my dilemma and if I need to wean myself off the blogosphere for a few months, then I had better be prepared to do it!
Ever thought about a “chat” schedule? Set aside a certain amount of time to check up on us goofballs? Or state a time so that we can check up on you?
That way, you get published and we still get some of your days and thoughts, too.
But… first and foremost you need to do what is best for you. Even if we are all selfish and just want you to ourselves while we escape our evil children π
You hit the nail on the head as far as being disciplined about what I do with my time, free or otherwise. If you only have a certain number of hours each day and most of those are taken up with work, householding, and sleep (or in my case trying to sleep), and you only have a certain amount of time left over then I think it is important to know what you find most refreshing to your spirits during that “free” time.
I hope this makes sense.
And here is one more reason to hang around aside from the fact that I would totally miss you guys if I took a break for three months….
I just got a brand spanking new computer that is superfast so I get lots more bang for the buck for my internet minutes!
Just make sure you come back.
Or we’ll sic Manny’s Love Bud after you π
and I know it sounds bad… but in S. Calif there are “cmpassionate” doctors who can help with insomnia that doesn’t leave you tired and “wasted” in the morning. One doesn’t have to get “stoned” to have a sound night of sleep.
It helps someone I know with their insomnia due to stress as well as horrible nightmares that would wake them up and prevent them from sleeping or being able to function clearly.
I once took sleeping pills and I couldn’t wake up in the day. In the middle of the night I got up… as all us moms should be able to… and I ended up cracking my head open laying in a pool of blood and puke and had a concussion. The doc said he’d give me something to “help me wake up” I said he could go take a leap. π
All my best to you!!!!!! Much love and strength my friend.
The internet can be a giant time and energy black hole but it can also offer a responsiveness that is hard to match IRL. So I’d second DJ’s idea of dropping in every now and again to give yourself a break and also, if you choose, to share your words and ideas.
MM, you’ve probably got lots of great writer friends, but if you ever need one more via email, to give you an encouraging word, I’m at Npickard at kc dot rr dot com If you lose that, you can find it again at my website. Did you say (below) 20 screenplays? Wow. That knocks me out. And I know how hard it is to sell them.
I especially appreciated your ocean pictures here in the FBCs. They always brought back fond memories of my time on the coast in N CA.
I’ve enjoyed reading your comments in a variety of other diary topics. I was always amazed how very similar your views were to mine. Hence, you save me the trouble of posting a comment numerous times, ha!
RL and BTing must dovetail, or the union eventually fall apart. I respect your decision to take a break, (and hopefully just a break and not a bye-bye forever.)
As I think about this I realize I’ve taken a break myself over the past few, maybe several weeks. It might not be obvious but I probably spend 90+% of my time here in the FBCs.
I still read many of the diaries, but I don’t get to them all anymore, and I make a point of avoiding the bickering ones.
I’ve been asking myself whether it’s worth my time to continue to add much more new knowledge to what I already know of this Bush Administration. I wonder sometimes if we lefty bloggers aren’t nearly immobilized by the process of learning more and more.
Maybe we could better impede the neocon’s momentum if we were to focus more time on figuring out ways to do something about it.
My very best wishes to you on this sojourn. And please come back to us at some point with what insights you’ve gained.
Thanks, NDD! I feel the same way about your voice and your comments and have also wondered about the role of my activities and behavior on the internet with respect to progressive activism. Mainly for me it has been a matter of encouragement and support and not feeling so lonely as well as knowing where I can invest some time and energy that might minimally be of some help to somebody.
Well, actually, yeah, if that’s what you need to do.
Do what you need to and come back when you’re ready. Or maybe stay, just hang around the cafe and get some support and good-natured razzing.
Penguins, penguins! {{{{Omir}}}}
Yes! Think of the penguins! For FSM sake, won’t somebody think of the penguins?
;-D
ZABAGLIONE GELATO
I had thoughts of moving to Costa Rica and opening a noon time gelateria with adults concoctions for evening.
Gelato comes in amazing flavors and colors. The best chocolate “ice cream” absolutely is Chocolate Gelato.
Gelato is Italy’s version of ice cream, with three major differences.
First, gelato has significantly less butterfat than ice cream’s typical 18 and 26 percent. Tests conducted by Delaware’s Department of Agriculture confirmed Caffé Gelato’s vanilla and chocolate gelato both have less than 10 percent butterfat.
However, less fat does not mean less taste. With the lower butterfat content, gelato is less solidly frozen than ice cream and melts in the mouth faster. Therefore, the customer will taste gelato’s full flavor immediately.
Second, gelato has a much higher density than ice cream. Ice cream is produced by mixing cream, milk and sugar, then adding air. Manufacturers add air to ice cream because it nearly doubles the quantity of their product. But, it cuts their quality in half. No air is added to gelato. The result is a higher quality dessert with a richer, creamier taste.
Third, gelato is served slightly warmer than ice cream. While both gelato and ice cream are served well below the freezing temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, gelato is served 10 to 15 degrees warmer than ice cream. Because it is less solidly frozen, gelato’s taste is further enhanced as it melts in the mouth.
There’s a chocolate store down the street at work and they make the best gelato … so every once in a while we all go down for a treat.
I think I unwittingly decided on what I must get for the new home π
A gelato machine. We have all these fresh fruit stands… YUM!
Between you and FM we’ll be living vicariously … π
I heard that.
Besides you already know I’m trying to soak it all up via my many pestering questions to you … and where’s the pix? Didn’t you say you would take some pix? π
No you wanted some pixs, I never said I would take any.
But since you’re so nice I’ll take some next time, er, probably tomorrow. π
You’re nice too. π
Man these things are expen$$$ive. ACK!!!
What’s money when you’re talking a good gelato? π
I’m afraid I would eat up the inventory before I sold anything.
Gotta run for a minute, be right back.
Just got here-wow-ice cream maniacs!
It’s been a very odd weekend made less bizarre by having lunch with my good friend and former housemate who magically always seems to be examining the same issues as I am despite the fact we don’t get together very often.
Did I tell you how wonderful it is to have this venue to read, reply and sound off? I think I did this morning but let me say it again-THANKS!
Hi soup. How’re ya doing tonight?
I’m trying to catch you ‘live’ for a change!
Today’s weather didn’t know whether to shine or sprinkle. I LOVE Oregon’s schizoRAINic weather.
I’m still serious as a heart attack, we have to meet up soon.
Give me a minute and I’ll open up a happy hour.
Froggy Bottom Happy Hour here
