Clean cafe and beer is flowing freely.
Gotta run again. Fmom is calling and George is whining.
Back in awhile.
(Mom whining and George calling…)
Been taking it easy today — goal is to get a lot done this week. Next week I’ll be busy in the mornings, helping out in our church office; hell, at least it’ll get me out of the apartment.
Getting frustrated with the status quo…hopefully we’ll be getting a resolution eventually…
Hello. I’m stopping in while preparing to freeze blueberries. How is everyone?
frozen blueberries… š
Looking forward to pics of Andrew with blueberry juice over half his face… lol
I still have some fresh blueberries left, so I might just make some muffins this week. How are you doing Cali?
I am a little afraid of trying a pie. The whole crust thing freaks me out. Plus, I have a birthday cake to make this week.
the pie crust ready made!
‘Course I’ve yet to make pie so far this lifetime. But I did used to make a real nice sourdough bread. That was sort of fun.
I use ready made pie crusts all the time for quiche. If I am going to tackle a pie, I want to try the whole thing.
Sourdough bread needs a starter, right?
out of a copy of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, p 207, but what year???
It could be twenty or more years back. But here’s the kicker, I’m 100% sure it’s still around here somewhere.
Now you have a glimpse into one aspect of the life of a BNF, ha!
All the old timers in the rural areas of ND use Crisco in their pie crust recipe. ( I know, bad stuff, don’t tell anyone you’re using it, ha!) But it makes for a very nice flaky pie crust.
Maybe I’ll work up my nerve to try a pie crust this summer. Thanks for the tip.
Me, too. Crust freaks me out big time. (((Toni)))
What’s going on?
I had to drop off because my kids were starting to hit each other. ACK!!!
I said something along the lines of:
This is a house peace gawd damnit and you better not bit hitting each other like a bunch of fucking warpigs because I’ll have none of that is this fucking house. Do you fucking understand me!?!?! ARRRGGGHHHh
Actually I think I gave them the evil, hairy eyeball… but the above is what I said in my head.
even while talking inside my head, I have major typos… ACK
How are you and the birthday cake coming along ? š
My brain is full of typos!
No cake, yet. I’ll make that Friday night. Andrew turns 2 on Wednesday, but he and I have a toddler and parent gymnastics class that night and one of my best friends (an “unofficial” auntie) is out of town until the weekend, so we’ll have a few people over on Saturday.
My dad-in-law makes awesome pie crusts, so mom-in-law lets him do all the baking. In fact, both my in-laws are awesome cooks, which is probably why the spouse can’t cook worth shit; he never had to (hell, when we started dating he was living mostly on the local fast food places and canned soup). š I’m training him, slowly but surely…it takes a while though.
I’ve been cooking pretty much since I was 9 years old…still can’t handle anything too fancy but I do know my way around a kitchen. Picked up a nearly-new rotisserie cooker at Goodwill; looking forward to trying it out sometime this week…
How’s things by you???
My mom’s side of the family were obsessed with making the perfect pie. It scared and scarred me ROFL.
I never needed to cook. Or when they’d let me “help” I stirred or peeled. It wasn’t untill I moved away and got marrried that I had to learn how to cook. Everything I know how to make… I taught myself.
soon even their great skill of cooking… wasn’t shared. It was hoarded.
and having a “WTF?” moment — dKos and Street Prophets seemed to have totally dropped off the blogosphere. I’ll close and reopen Firefox and see if that works.
Other than that, not too bad — it’s too damn hot here but it’s starting to cool off; got too much to do this week so I can go off and volunteer with a clear conscience next week, and maybe the following week depending how totally lost our new office administrator and new associate rector are…long story…as I said, it’ll get me out of the apartment for a few hours a day…
How’s summer going? When do the schools get back into session for you?
I go back to school the Monday before Labor Day. Things here are good, despite the fact that the house is a wreck, but we are working on that, slowly but surely.
Weather has been pleasant, nothing too hot.
Where will you volunteer? Doing what?
How are you?
I’ve got a bit of the Sunday night — work tomorrow — blues, but overall doing good.
What have you got planned for the week, other than the above mentioned activities. And how’s the dill coming along?
The dill is okay. It looks so fragile, but it is much better than my attempt last year. The rest of the herbs are great. I’ve been using them since we got back from vacation.
How are your herbs doing?
The sage is growing really well (knock on wood), along w/ the rosemary outdoor and indoor (indoor is flowering again), basil, thyme. And the garlic chives are doing their thing.
Oh and I’ve got a massive planting of catnip — so much that I’ve been cutting it and taking it into work for the cat people … š
Fresh herbs are the best.
Do neighborhood cats some into your yard to roll around in your catnip?
I haven’t seen any recently though. Which is good b/c it was driving my indoor kitty crazy watching them outside. š
Time for a break, so I’d stop in and say hello!
Hey there Street Kid. How are things in your part of the world?
Hi toni!
Glad to see you. Have been writing–some of it is harder than I thought it would be. And, it is too damn hot–typical MI summer.
The temp has been fine just across the Detroit River. I was wondering what the other MI people thought of a meet-up. I don’t know if I can make the Chicago one. I might just throw that question up in the regional area.
What are you working on right now – writing wise?
Decided to write a book. Not going into specifics at the present.
That’s great. Good luck with it.
Hope you’re doing well — haven’t ‘seen’ you in a while.
Been busy writing. But I did go fishing this past Saturday.
That sounds interesting… Where’d you go? And what did you fish for?
Just on the Chain O’Lakes. Believe it or not, it was a first (and last) date. I caught a few small mouth bass–having one for dinner now actually. Should have seen the look on the guy’s face when he saw that I knew how to filet fish.
It was priceless!
Why do men always think women either don’t know how to fish, or are really squeamish?
Any of the guys have an answer?
But I’d be interested to know as well … I’ve always cringed at the squeamish ‘ooh gross’ crowd myself. But, hey … whatever floats your boat. I’d rather get on w/ the business of fishing like you SK. Maybe this was a good outing to assess compatibility … š
How’s the fish btw?
Dinner is great. Somehow, fish that you caught always tastes better!
Thought the same as you re: compatability. See we both agreed on fishing and it didn’t bother me in the least that he brought his son (divorced dad w/weekend custody). But, then he started freaking out because I knew what I was doing. (Also caught more fish than he did.)
And his son thought I was cool!
Maybe he was feeling out-fished … a competitive streak showing or something. š
You’re probably right–Good thing it wasn’t hunting season! LOL!!
either don’t know how to fish, or are really squeamish?
Well, it’s perfectly obvious, to me anyway. Most men are hoping you don’t know how to fish, or how-to anything else, so they can show you and revel in their machoness, and thus drive away any insecurities.
Other men have been clipped before having made foolish assumptions as to what the woman can do.
[Disclaimer: I no doubt have elements of both.]
Best story I ever heard was the woman who was changing oil on her own car and was getting grief from her boyfriend.
Boyfriend was wearing white pants… (use your imagination here) needless to say boyfriend unhappy, and woman said she went looking for new boyfriend.
He also made me learn how to change both the oil and the tires … Not that I do it nowadays … š
Sounds just like my late father. I was my dad’s girl. He taught me how fishing, woodworking, and so on. Asked him once if he wanted a son instead–this was when we were rebuilding an outboard motor. (I was 12–this was before his heart attack.) He said, “Hell no! The most important thing in life is not to take any crap from anyone.”
Drove my mother nuts!
somehow this does suprise me too much coming from you… š
does = doesn’t
And men think women are neurotic?
G’night folks. See Andi and FM in the morning.
Great diary re: do-nothing congress!
I think I’ve sort of ODed on the news the past several weeks. So I might just have missed ya! How goes it for you this summer?
How’d you make out today … getting close to finished on your deck?
other than when I was blogging, ha!
I think a half day will finish the railing, and then maybe I’ll need a few more hours for some final decorative trim. Then I’ll have to apply some preservative, so… it could be another full day.
The women I know always double the men’s prediction on expended time relative to doing projects. More often than not they’re right on target.
So what’s your multiple???
Hmmmm … Depending on the size of the deck, the perservative application could take most of a day. And you said you had guests coming so I’m adding more time d/t that … š
deck is not that big, only 8′ X 10’8″, since it’s off the 2nd story.
Guests arrive Wed. Has to be done before that.
On second thought, I may do the preservative after the guests leave, as it may be hazardous for a young child if it is still outgassing in the drying process.
I have no idea how big your deck is or if you have all your materials or if the weather will hold off for staining etc., so it’s a total wild stab in dark. š
Leaving off the preservative for awhile won’t hurt it. (Unless you bought a really soft wood, in that case, it wouldn’t last through the winter even with a preservative.)
Typical summer–getting into its-too-damn-hot days. Just wanted to take a break from writing and see what was up.
Good evening froggies! I trust that all are well.
Hey, b2, how is everything with you?
Stepped away for a second. I’m good, just wish I could have made it to the meetup. Ahh, next time.
You’ll get an abbreviated version of anything important at the next one.
How are you?
Hot! Am not a summer person. Nothing much new really.
Depends on what your definition of “well” is my dear man š
You are here, that’s good enough for me. š
Depends on your definition of “here” š
You’re far too technical tonight. š
Depends on what your def.. oh nevermind š
Just was waiting for the Mister to come home.
I was “evil” and asked the kids to do some very light chores. Which took an hour it seemed.
At what age does it become evil to ask a child to do chores? Andrew kind of helps me pull weeds?
Painting< I wish that I had more time for it. I spent the day setting up the kiddie pool, mowing the lawn and fixing my son’s window, which hasn’t opened in, oh, many years.
if you put the kiddy pool on the lawn, it will kill the grass and you won’t have to mow š
Hmm, I wish that I could get a lawn-shaped one.
Evening boran.
Evening, TT!
Did you and the boran family have a good w/e?
Good, but very busy. Running around for many errands. Little time to relax. How was yours?
A total slacker w/e … FM would be proud. š
He’s my hero.
I notice how smoothly he defers your requests for help w/ the lawn. š
Not from Olivia’s file š
can this cake – Red and Black are both really HARD colors to create.
Love it … š
I’m going to try to achieve this with M&Ms š
And then you have to take pix for us!!! Oh, and try not to eat them all before placement … š
Don’t tell Maryb.
I have a t-shirt with this design.
Don’t tell anyone, but Lil Toni’s birthday isn’t until the end of the month.
But we can have so much “pre-(fill in the blank)” that by the time it is his birthday we’ll be pros! š
Sorry, brain lock. His birthday is Wednesday. Someone else’s b-day is at the end of the month.
Gotta run make dinner and the mister needs the puter.
Nytol! š
“See” everyone later.
Just want to thank everyone for all of your responses, encouragement, and helpful insights into my current dilemma. I think one person’s suggestion, I think it was DJ, of a check in time, say Sunday morning for example, just to say hi and make sure you aren’t staying out of trouble (don’t you dare!) would be a good way to go while I sort myself out.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{FBL}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
You are the best!!!!!!
And don’t you forget it!!!!!
Ever!!!
Wishing you the best in your writing endeavours! Sending good thoughts … and I think it’s a great idea that you’ll check in on Sundays! {{{{{{mm}}}}}}}
