I’m airing my nose out — I just took the trash out (the end of the drive is a 1/4 mile away so it takes a few minutes) which had put a dead raccoon in it and the smell was very much not nice.
The porcupines are coming out of the woods and eating their house … literally. They’ve eaten all the wiring out of their last car — chewed brake lines etc. Now the cars are in the garage and barn and they’ve taken to eating the house. It’s crazy. Nobody seems to know why and how to stop it. Thought I’d see if you had heard of anything.
We’ve had raccoon problems but they don’t chew as much as get into things. But over the years the dogs have convinced them that there are better places to hang out. A couple of beagles would probably clear up the problem for your parents.
Wow Olivia, that’s quite the predicament, and I’m clueless as to what one could do (given I’ve never seen a porcupine up close and personal!). I’d have to agree w/Jim on the no dog thing … too much danger for the valiant doggies for me to even consider that.
I did, however, come up with a silly, novel suggestion …
Perhaps, if they blew up a whole bunch of balloons and covered the area with them, the porcupines might bump into them and burst them, hopefully frightening them away. No one would get hurt in the process, though it might be a bit noisy, lol. Not to mention the hassle of replenishing the supply until they depart… oh well, unsolicited half-baked nonsense.
How are you toots? We’re getting much-needed rain here all day and through the night … pretty light but we’ll take it!
Hey Olivia,
Just passing through, but I saw your query.
The pitbull lost, in my opinion.
I`ll post some strange pics [hopefully] later tonight.
I setting up something horney. http://img111.imageshack.us/img111/7739/image0011hl.jpg
Hello! Breathing and got a headache since this morning. EW! Not a vertigo thingy either. Maybe I got some kid crapy bug or something. Trying to shake it off as we got a roller hockey game to go see later and I have a CP meeting tomorrow as well as a job fair to attend.
I am not in the mood for a happy hour but I sure am in the mood for a lot of alcohol. I am really nervous. I found a discolored spot on my arm and went to see the nurse practioner at work. She agreed I should have someone else look at it. She actually called around and got me an appointment for this thursday at 5 with a dematologist. Of course, she says don’t stress about it but I am stressed beyond belief. Please keep me in your thoughts as I wait for the appointment and then the test results.
I am sorry. There’s no way you won’t think about it so the only thing I can suggest is to let the Diva Dogs comfort you (petting dogs lowers your blood pressure) and find plenty of things to distract you.
Good for you to have it checked as soon as you noticed it. Did you have the nurse check for other spots, like on your back … make sure you have the derm check if you she didn’t check.
Sending positive thoughts your way!!!! Can you feel ’em yet? And please let us know how it turns out!
Thanks, The dermatologist will do a full body check on thursday. I know I did the right thing to get it checked immediately but I am scared to death. I am seriousdly hopping it is something simple but my mind keeps thinging the worst.
where the pad from the sunglasses rests on the side of the nose. (I’m speculating that the translucent pad concentrated the suns rays and may have cause the problem.)
A guy from Australia tipped me off to the possibilities that it should be checked out. Guess folks over there have more trouble with the sun.
Anyway, it didn’t end up to be the big “C” but something pre-C, forget what they called it now.
The Dr did freeze it with something on a cue tip, I think they use liquid nitrogen. Came back after a few months for inspection and there was a little left, so they did it again, and no problems since. And it’s been several years.
So if it is something that needs to be gotten rid of it may not be too big a deal. BTW the treatment was pretty much painless as I recall.
They recommended I use sunscreen more diligently henceforth. Good idea for anyone these days.
Hope this possibility helps alleviate some concern.
A nice hat with a wide brim can not only save your skin, but look quite dashing to boot. I live with a redhead, so I’m rarely out in the direct sun, and when I am she insists on maximum coverage. Took a little getting used to, but good for me in the long run.
I didn’t used to be a hat person, but then I went bald enough to burn through what was left of my hair (age 25). At that point the stuff wasn’t doing me any good and wasn’t looking all that great, so I just shaved it off. It’s been hats ever since.
I will be wearing sunscreen everyday for the rest of my life. I am fair and burn easily. I ahve used it for outside events but it will be come a daily thing from now on even if this isn’t cancer.
Thank you!!!! I am sure it will be alright but… anyway, don’t be worried if you guys don’t see me or hear from me for a few days. I am in a really strange mood and might not be up to blogging for a few days.
Hey there RF, sorry to hear about the scare there. Sending you my best thoughts and positive vibes that it’s merely something minor! Definitely soak up the loving from the Diva dogs … Andi’s right, they lower your blood pressure, besides little puppy kisses always make you feel better anyway! (btw, we’re still in the adjusting phase of the new one in our house… interesting!)
I like the idea of a Cowboy hat… you should do it … you know those always make a guy look sexier and turn heads … and you are in TX after all! Ya know what they say about TX… nuthin but steers and ….
Hang in there my friend and keep designing your heart out if that helps distract you! Keep us posted when you’re ready and take a break if you need one! Kind of been doing that myself lately, though I feel awful guilt about it, lol!
I am still going to go for the library science degree. Of course, I still need to complete the application, which is on the list for next week. I know that I should have already completed it, but the end of the school year was, as always, crazy. I haven’t had a good solid four hours to work on it. But, the house is getting under control and both of us are home right now, so that’s my next big project.
Right now, I am trying to decide if I want to focus on k-12 or the public library sector. I sure would miss the summers, but as everyone know, my current school district is …um…(trying to come up with a diplomatic term)unique.
How’s it going out there on the left coast Kamakhya? Nice and rainy here tonight for a switch … the garden is gonna love it! (and so will the weeds that didn’t get pulled last weekend…grrr)
Hey IVG. It’s yer basic, sunny perfect day here, finlly cooling off comfortably. It’s still weird for me not seeing rain for five or six months, but we make up for it in winter. I was just reading today that conditions in the mid-west are way too dry and my hometown in NY was totally flooded last week. The worst flood in their history, overflowing all the flood walls.
despite such a promising spring. I’ve noticed that certain perennials are not as big as they usually are this year, which I attribute to the dry spells we’ve had. Even with my nearly constant watering a while back, stuff kind of looks stunted, but they’re trooping along nicely nonetheless.
Think I’ll venture out on the porch for a while and listen to the rain before I go to bed… trying to get to bed earlier these days, with varying success! Great to have bumped into ya tonight though… still working on resurrecting a salacious story from my past to tell one of these rockin nights, hehe.
Probably will have to dredge up something from my summer in the porn biz back in college, lol. That was eventful and educational to be sure.
Just thought I’d pop in before bed and see if there was anyone stirring… lazy rainy night here, though we did watch Shattered Glass on IFC earlier, and it’s an excellent film … caught a bit of the tail end of Shaun of the Dead before some other drivel came on…
I’ve missed my time here, but things around here lately have been upended to say the least… esp with the new dog. I think it may work out eventually, but I’m not liking how he wants to be the #1 center of attention, which is what he’s been until now. He wants to be a one person dog I think, and has been kind of snarly to Rolly for no good reason other than Rolly is the other male. I know, I’m super protective of Rolly, but he’s in his later years and I don’t want him feeling shoved out of the way. Oh well… we’re hanging in there and Pepa is asserting herself when needed, so we’ll see where this goes.
btw, that was a scary pic knucklehead posted up there earlier! that poor dog! Good reason why dogs + porcupines should not happen!
IIRC … How it would work w/ Rolly. I think I had read that Pepa was sticking close by you these days as well… I hope it works out. I suppose it has only been a short time really, and Andy’s used to being the only dog. It may take a while for them to get the pack heirarchy figured out …
That pic knuckled posted is nasty! That poor, poor creature.
We were hurting on that, after the pre-4th showers! Saw your pic from last night and damn, I wasn’t there to nail it! We have lots of that mallow around here, aka, prairie mallow, which just appeared here about 6 yrs ago… it’s great stuff, though a bit invasive if you’re not careful about it.. but still, it’s a mallow, it’s pretty and reliable, so we let it go. Of course, Olivia the detective had to ID it… lol. Can’t keep that girl down, nope.
and I’m bad on not doing anything at mine for a while, but promise to change that soon… grrr… sweet peas… we struggle with those and never succeed… let me see!
Rats I’m just chronically late getting in here. DJ, sure I’d love to meet up. My email’s on my sig. Re: jobs-my sis is an HR person for Metro and always tells me to have people check their website. Interesting jobs of all sorts.
Nighty-night all
or anything in the area that happens to be breathing.
How are you?
I’m airing my nose out — I just took the trash out (the end of the drive is a 1/4 mile away so it takes a few minutes) which had put a dead raccoon in it and the smell was very much not nice.
Sorry you asked?
EW!
as a description — though it’s not quite strong enough.
The dogs are really put out with me for putting it in the trash — they say aged meat is served in all the best restaurants.
OH my! LOL
I’m speechless!! LOL
I do not think you know what that word means.
(I guess I shouldn’t tell you about the time one of the dogs brought us a deer head.)
very aged meat, works well as a “cologne,” especially after your masters give you a bath.
Yeah, Sniff loves to roll in dead stuff. And then he gets huffy because I won’t let him in the house.
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Sounds like my dogs
I’d say that’s not a very good descriptor either.
I’ve got a question for you — do you have porcupines? And if so, do they chew on the house/ car/ other non-organic materials?
Are you having problems? Out west, they put chickenwire around buildings and trees to keep the porcupines from chewing on them.
The doggies have all gone to doggie heaven — even the neighbours’ doggies. And they’ve told me no to any new dogs.
jim says (heh) I’m wrong.
Dogs are a bad idea.
Porcupine quills are barbed and a dog that gets a muzzle full of quills will be in serious pain and will run the risk of a serious infection.
I vote for a 12 gauge solution.
We’ve had to deal w/ porcupine quills in both our past doggies … Not fun at all.
they’re the PorcuMafiosa, cripes!
Wow Olivia, that’s quite the predicament, and I’m clueless as to what one could do (given I’ve never seen a porcupine up close and personal!). I’d have to agree w/Jim on the no dog thing … too much danger for the valiant doggies for me to even consider that.

Can’t believe the café is so dead tonight!
Sorry to have missed you! Hope you’ve been well and that work has been at least tolerable … 🙂
Hey Olivia,
Just passing through, but I saw your query.

That’s nasty knuckle … and I’m not really partial to pitbulls. I’d have to agree w/ you on the outcome!
Hope you’re doing well.
Sniff brought you a present? LOL
More than likely it was Giddy, the malamutt.
Hope you’re enjoying your summer.
LOL probably but I am sure sniff enoyed it also.

and I feel like shit warmed over.
in the pink (sorry, couldn’t resist).
My grandmother believed you could cure anything with hot tea and lemon.
Hope you feel better soon Janet
One of those had me knocked for a loop this morning — took a whole morning in bed (yeah, alone) to get rid of it…
Job fair? So I assume the Powell’s job fell through…sorry to hear that. 🙁 Good luck on the search.
Okay, time to get myself moving — heading for Sweet Tomatoes tonight, coupon in hand… 🙂
Yeah, they had to hire people with MBA’s and ten years of bookselling experience instead of me. 🙂
I’m reapply though. Again and again.
Have fun!!! and glad you feel better after your morning in bed.

I’ll send some warm, pink thoughts down your way. Let us know what happens okay! Cause I’ll be holding my breath till then.
Thank you!!!!
I am sorry. There’s no way you won’t think about it so the only thing I can suggest is to let the Diva Dogs comfort you (petting dogs lowers your blood pressure) and find plenty of things to distract you.
Thanks Andi!!! They can tell I am upset and hve barely left my side since I got home.
keep us posted!
Will hold lots of good thoughts that it’s just one of those old-age thingies… 😉
I will and thank you.

Thank you!!!! You folks are the only ones I ahve told except for a couple of people at work. I want to keep this as low key as possible.

Oy. No way not to stress about it, I know. But try not to stress too much. Take care and know I’ll be sending positive waves your way.
Thank you!!!!!
((((refinish69)))) Everything will turn out alright. I will keep you in my happy thoughts.
Thank you!!!! I am sure it will be alright but… anyway, don’t be worried if you guys don’t see me or hear from me for a few days. I am in a really strange mood and might not be up to blogging for a few days.

Dear Frog Ponders: have I ever uttered the words, “Geezers are pleasers”?! Because Mary says I have, but I don’t believe her! 😛
LOL I have never hear4d them but I haven’t been around as much lately as I like to be.
Evening all.
Just got my Booman Tribune T-shirt in the mail. I must say I look really hot in frogs. Okay, maybe not really hot.
Actually the shirt is pretty cool.
LOL We want to see a picture.
photo!!!! 🙂
I have no clue as to how to post photos. 🙁
you can st up a free acount at photobucket and then yse the info their to post it here.
Thanks!
I’ll try to figure it out. But since it is happy hour and I’ve had a beer, I’d better not try now.
Yes, sad to say, I can get tipsy off one beer.
I’ve gptta get back to the couch and let the cat sit on my neck. Ciao!
Hey there fellow froggies! How is everyone tonight?
I’ve been meaning to ask — are you going to go ahead with the library science program?
I am still going to go for the library science degree. Of course, I still need to complete the application, which is on the list for next week. I know that I should have already completed it, but the end of the school year was, as always, crazy. I haven’t had a good solid four hours to work on it. I’ll be looking forward to experiencing your degree vicariously — I’ve always thought that being a librarian would be wonderful.
Right now, I am trying to decide if I want to focus on k-12 or the public library sector. I sure would miss the summers, but as everyone know, my current school district is …um…(trying to come up with a diplomatic term)unique.
I will probably start in January.
How was your weekend sleepover?
The weekend was great. Lots of talking, eating, and more talking.
And I see you’ve headed off to bed so — Good Night.
I think I’ll follow your excellent example.
Good night folks. I am very tired this evening.
Looks like a bit late for Happy Hour and too early for the late-night crew, but Hi to anyone still around. :>)
How’s it going out there on the left coast Kamakhya? Nice and rainy here tonight for a switch … the garden is gonna love it! (and so will the weeds that didn’t get pulled last weekend…grrr)

Enjoy your evening out there! Seeya soon, I hope.
Enjoy the rain! I’ll look forward to your story!
I’m here to witness IVG’s comment to you. Sounds like a story w/ lots of potential … LOL.
Hope you’re doing well!
Hey O. WooHoo, an impartial observer! :>)
I’m well, but tired. I’m off to bed soon (after I get my kid off the phone and to be herself).
Take care and pleasant dreams.
Have a good day tomorrow … 🙂
How are you this evening/morning? 🙂
Just thought I’d pop in before bed and see if there was anyone stirring… lazy rainy night here, though we did watch Shattered Glass on IFC earlier, and it’s an excellent film … caught a bit of the tail end of Shaun of the Dead before some other drivel came on…
Ahhhh…. nice gentle rain off and on here….
I was hoping you’d pop back in after your rain break.
How are you? {{{{{{{IVG}}}}}}}} Big squeezes cause I haven’t seen you in a while. 🙂
I’ve missed my time here, but things around here lately have been upended to say the least… esp with the new dog. I just opened a fresh cafe so should be easier on the dial-uppers … 🙂
’twas definitely worth the wait for dialup to load!!!
No wonder you were gone for so long … 🙂 Did you like it? More sweet pea … 🙂
and I’m bad on not doing anything at mine for a while, but promise to change that soon… grrr… sweet peas… we struggle with those and never succeed… let me see!
23C indoors
17C outdoors
hellfire and humidity headed this way starting tomorrow afternoon, to 90 tomorrow and 90-100 through the weekend.
ACKKCKCKCKCKCK!!!! That’s what I get for smarting off last night. Eh? 😉
Well, one more night of hot chocolate…
How the heat situation for ya there tonight? Hopefully better.
LOL … Things have cooled down here — had rain tonight. But like you, it’s going up to the 30s/90s by the end of the week and this coming w/e.
Rats I’m just chronically late getting in here. DJ, sure I’d love to meet up. My email’s on my sig. Re: jobs-my sis is an HR person for Metro and always tells me to have people check their website. Interesting jobs of all sorts.
