Hammocks moved into the cafe. Sit back and have a beer.
Good evening Frod Ponders! How goes this delightful evening for ye?
Evening Psi. How goes your day?
It wasn’t so bad – ironically because I got a load of work to do in the latter half of the day. If I’m going to be in the office, I might as well be doing something, you know?
Anyways, I’m pleased that I probably have enough work to do to cover me through until at least early next week. Oh, and I was also assigned a long-term project to research roughly 750 companies or so, I believe. That should be fun.
Well you enjoy that. I’ll take a hammock any day. 🙂
Bastard. 😛
Just letting you know what you can look forward to. 🙂
Heh, if I live that long. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
On another note, my computer crashed for the second time since I’ve gotten back. I’ve lost material I’ve written both times. I think I have to seriously consider building a new computer.
Sorry to hear about your computer probs … that’s not good for peeps like us … :/
Set the a/c on ‘hard freeze’ FM; and George, start linin’ those cold one’s up…
A Few Clouds 95°F (35°C), Wind: N 12 MPH
dada got it chill room temp and I’ll run a tap over to you.
Looks like summer has returned for just about everyone.
Hope you and George and FMom are staying cool and comfortable.
Thanks for asking dada. We only go outside when necessary.
Hope you’re not having to go out too much.
Been wondering if we could mail ice cubes to Olivia. 🙂
We’re all baking today … we got up to 99 here! Currently 95 … :O
99º…I didn’t think it ever got that hot up there…cooking here, forecast has been upgraded to poss 100º F thru early next wk,
The house is about 90 right now and a/c in studio is struggling w/ west window solar gain.
Think I’ll move down to the ctyd and have another beer w/ Bu.
Catch ya later.
We weren’t that hot here today, at least I don’t think so. I went out in the morning and stayed in for the rest of the day.
It was the humidity that pushed it up. We had an outdoor bday lunch today and I couldn’t take the heat — after 15 minutes I had to go back inside.
Hi Olivia and TT.
Hate to say it, but I’m about to fall out of my chair I’m so sleepy. I think I’ll call it an early night.
Ya’ll have a good night.
Good night and sleep well FM.
We’ll venture outside this weekend, if it’s not too hot. Tomorrow is a short walk-a-thon for breast cancer treatment and Sunday is Dragon Boat races. We’ve never been to these before, but with Andrew we thought that it would be a good idea to try and connect with the Chinese community when possible.
Did the cake from the b-day party melt?
Without frosting (I didn’t partake …)
Sounds like a great w/e. Where are the Dragon Boat races held …
Canadian side of the river, near Sand Point Beach, east on Riverside Drive. I think the event raises money for breast cancer survivors.
They held the Windsor Automan triathlon there when I lived in Windsor …
I hope it’s not too hot.
Did you participate in the triathlon?
I had friends doing it … I was concerned about the quality of the water … 🙂
I’ve got some really good memories from that time. I used to run every day along the river (staring at the Amb. bridge) and that was nice.
I’ll swap you. The current outside temp is maybe 50 degrees farenheit, and it’s only a few degrees more inside since I let the fire go out.
Albert is trying to figure out how to upgrade his minions to ones who actually do his every bidding – like keeping the fire at roasting.
Gotta finish getting dinner ready.
Check back in awhile.
To follow up your last post to me in the previous cafe: I don’t care much for lotteries in general and the Washington State Lottery drives me crazy because they have extremely funny commercials for what I think is a reprehensible product. Your comment reminds me of one where some average Joe in what’s obviously a big ornate room in a big ornate house walks over and thumbs an intercom button with a very confused look on his face.
“Yes, sir?” a proper British voice responds.
“James, can you tell me which room I’m in?”
“You are in the library, sir. Would you like instructions on how to get to the dining room?”
And the butler proceeds to give him instructions. The point being of course that if you win the lottery you can buy this mansion.
Did you get a good news phone call while lounging at your “pool?”
Nothing yet, tomorrow I’ll go back to sitting here and staring at the phone.
for the evening. I bid you all a good night.
I posted this in Rub’s Diary…
It looks like I’m going back to Ft. Lewis again.
Suzanne Swift
JULY 15th 2006: NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION TO DEMAND AN IMMEDIATE HONORABLE DISCHARGE FOR SUZANNE SWIFT
Saturday, July 15th marks a national day of action to call for an honorable discharge for Army Specialist Suzanne Swift, who turns 22 on that day. Protests will occur at the gates of Ft. Lewis (exit 119) beginning at 12 pm with a press conference at 3 pm…
Same fucking exit I was on for Lt. Watada. I have a hard time with the base protests. They’re very…. well, scary.
So again I’m gearing up.
Today I had an interview with Aveda. It went well. Just a pt job. Anyways, I’m hoping that we can maybe start a thread for street protesters, marchers, vigilers so that we can provide tips and practical advice as well as “alerts” and “notes of safe return”. Because let me tell ya… it’s getting really scary out there at times.
I followed the link you provided. It seems there should be more info about her situation & why she is presently in it. I followed links from your link & couldn`t get much more.
Not to be critical of what you do, but a more indepth or more informative
source might garner more interest in her [plight?]
Thanks for all you do btw.
seems to sum it up:
This is a web site supporting the case of U.S. Army Specialist Suzanne Swift, a veteran of the Iraqi War and a survivor of systemic sexual assault during her military service.
And here’s a quote from the June 20th issue of The Guardian (UK):
A female soldier in the US military has refused to serve in Iraq, accusing some of her superiors of using the war zone as a pretext for sexual harassment.
In what is believed to be the first case of a female soldier refusing to serve because she feared sexual harassment, Suzanne Swift, 21, a specialist with the 54th military police company, told the Guardian she did not join her unit when it left for a second tour of duty in Iraq because it meant a return to a regime of harassment.
Thank the Galaxy for Google News… 🙂
Thanks Cali, I was confusing this young lady with another one who was physically assaulted & harrassed to the point of near insanity & also refused to return. This was from a few articles I read last year. A very traumatic circumstance for the young lady, as I recollect. [not that it shouldn`t be]
are too damn many. 🙁 Hell, ONE is too damn many.
These women all bought the same story — get your education paid for, “be all you can be”, yadda yadda yadda. They didn’t have to go to Iraq to be treated like dirt…they could’ve stayed Stateside and got the same shit.
There are some men (and women) that shouldn’t EVER be put in positions of responsibility. These folks have no idea about what it takes to be an effective leader — they just think about the power, while disregarding the responsibility that goes along with the power. We see that every day with the current Presidential officeholder.
When the best boss I ever had got promoted to manager of our division, he promoted one of the order entry clerks to supervisor. The guy turned out to be a total jerk, yet he kept his nose clean enough that he couldn’t get canned or demoted. Shortly after that, I transferred to another department (totally unrelated move — I was ready for a new challenge); my boss took me out to lunch at his favorite burger place, and actually admitted to me that was the biggest mistake of his life. (He also told me I had been one of the candidates he had in mind — I probably would’ve turned it down though because I didn’t really see myself as management material.)
If these “men” in the military didn’t have the women to pick on, they’d just pick on and harass whichever of the other men they perceived as the weakest…most harassment has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with power…
I believe you`re right about it being about power. One thing though; I think there are some “men” in the military who feel completely inadequate when it comes to women, that they`ll skip them & vent on a perceived
weaker man. Here`s how the top guy measures up, speaking of inadequate.
