Today is Blogosphere Day and, no, Skippy did not coin that term. Blogosphere Day originated exactly two years ago, while I was in Sarasota registering voters and seriously offline. On July 19th, 2004 the blogosphere raised $50K for Ginny Schrader, a candidate in Pennsylvania’s 8th District. The money made the seat unexpectedly competitive, and we are going to take it this year with Patrick Murphy. On July 19th, 2005, the Blogosphere raised $100K for Paul Hackett and launched him to national fame. This year we have an added bonus. Ned Lamont has pledged to match every dollar we raise for him with a dollar of his own. Ned will use the money for “an unprecedented ground operation, direct mail pieces, radio, television, and online advertising…”
…while his campaign has raised millions from those who profit from war, high gas prices and expensive prescription drugs, over 15,000 individuals have contributed to our effort, the vast majority in small dollar donations. – Ned Lamont
We need to make news with this year’s Blogosphere Day. Let the Establishment tremble before our power. As Chris Bowers says:
I do not have many complicated messages to give you when it comes to this race. We have already written more about this election on MyDD than any single election since the 2004 Presidential election…It should suffice to say that I believe this election represents nearly everything that the netroots is fighting for in our struggles to reshape the Democratic Party.
This election is only twenty days away.
So, folks, for this years Blogosphere Day please make your voice heard and help us shatter the record we set last year for Paul Hackett. Donate to Ned Lamont and he will match your contribution with his own. It’s going to be a close primary, and we can make a difference.
