Danni and her Dad just returned from there this morning. Now they’re out and about. Family is “mad” at me for spending too much tine online recently rather than other things. So I’m ACK “left behind”.
Now see what you’ve done… first invoking Dr. John earlier and now the Ramones… one of my favorite songs there, and just heard it again last week when we watched House of 1000 Corpses again … which also has a killer soundtrack. How ya doing today pinkie patootie?
Well I could lie and say I was just groovy but I think the best answer is… I’m going out marching tonight. There should be another edition to No War Drum rally later on (sunday perhaps)
I’ve decided that Sunday, too. Instead of feeling my ass numb at the ‘puter… I’m going to start sketching. Blame it on Boran2 🙂
Well the mind numbing melt of work I’ve been doing the last 3 days is finally over (about 15 min ago!) so I can breathe a sigh of relief on that. I’m just glad it’s Friday and I’m outta this refrigerated cubihell in a few minutes! Buying some beer on the way home and something for dinner and then relaxing tonight … well after I get an hour or so of weeding done now that it’s cool and it quit raining here!
Take care and give em hell at the march, but do make sure YOU are ok! I’m hoping to get caught up in the garden this weekend and take it easy after that.
OH, and I picked my very first tomato last night! Haven’t eaten it yet, but will take a pic I can post at some point, lol. Pretty early for me to get tomatoes here… don’t usually get any ripe ones until at least the 1st week of August, but with this heat lately….
Danni just came home and her face is RED from the car trip. It might too hot tonight to go out with the kids. Danni succumbs to heat very easily. So not sure I’ll go as I’d go alone. I might just stay home with her and the family.
They want to rejoin the weekly rally. In fact this is more their gig than mine. But this weekend… okay my husband says he’s not comfortable with going out in this heat with the kids. heat also makes for hostile society.
We have a smal lgardnen now Tomotoes and peppers and some beans. Corn even. But the dog keeps running in it to chase squirrels.

Hi SN… that ligated character is available in the extended character sets of the fonts you already have in Windows. Either use the character map utility or better yet, just choose ‘symbol’ within your app (such as MS Word) and select it from the font set. It will be a character beyond 130 something (not sure which one, but I know it’s ASCII higher than that number.) Pretty easy to do, actually.
Fleeing the ice cubihell right now… but hope to make it back later, if I don’t geezer out like last night! Great list of tunes again, as usual. Hope to you see you later tonight or this weekend… I’m sooo outta here now!
As Cali knows my daughter is involved with a hockey picks game, she’s actually a veteran of it because she’s been doing it for “half her life” LOL She makes picks of players who will score/assist. One year she almost won it… most other players are my age or older.
She doesn’t “chat” in the hockey forum. Mostly just adds photos or birthday wishes… but latelly she’s been adding “Hockey Haiku” her own little creation.
LOL … Andi, when I read your comment in the recent comments section I missed the with first and was wondering what marvellous things you all were discussing … 🙂
the haiku…definitely puts me in hockey mode…and right now a nice cold ice rink sounds quite appealing. The heat has zapped my energy and my appetite…combined with having to be careful not to drink water too fast or I end up with tummy cramps. If this is a foretaste of Hell, Bush and Cheney better get their shit together… lol

Awesome doesn’t even come close. His ride on Thursday was the most amazing athletic performance I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t believe how he descended the mountains. Win or loose he is the winner of the Tour.
He should do well w/ the time trial barring any mechanical stuff or a fall etc., but the way this is going to end w/ the top three so close is going to be great.
Thanks, DJ. We got a call from the electric company around 6:30 saying that we wouldn’t have power until Sunday night, and then around 8:30, the power came back on.
Thanks. Most people have public water and never have to deal with the fact that their well pump stops when the electricity is out. The no water thing is harder than the no power thing, IMO.
And of course, if you work from home and the power goes out for 4 days…not fun.

which would make it about week early. A barley field was combined to the SE of me while I was working on the deck. Fun to watch from a distance. (It’s a very dusting operation.)
Almost done with deck railing finish pieces. I can’t believe I underestimate the time it takes to do projects by so much these days…
well, maybe your high school and univ labs went better than they did for me and my friends, but we almost always had to add a Fudge Factor, which we designated by FF, so then the FF was either an amount added, subtacted, mult, or div to get the “correct” answer.
winter wheat, (planted in the fall, for those who don’t know), which matures earlier than spring planted crops. We never used to have that here in ND, but now with milder climate over the last decade we do.
And we’ve got lots of row crops like, soybeans, black turtles, pinto beans, sunflowers, that 30 years ago we never had.

Hey, I’ve already got one “client” I’m “assisting” in rebabilitating from the high pressure big city type job situation.
In fact I gave her her first assignment today. She’s supposed to go for a walk barefoot on cool wet grass (lawn, not tall stuff) and report back with a sentence or two, or three.
I’ve got more, but I didn’t want her to go into shock or anything.
As far as MsNDD goes, we have a nightly cell phone conversation which must compensate for the 2 hour time slot we normally have for “interaction” when I’m in the city, on days she’s working. Tomorrow is day 4, of 5-12hr stretch. Yesterday’s was 13! I haven’t done those kind of work hours since I quit farming.
Lonely? Ya definitely! But ain’t ya heard, “abscence make the heart grow fonder.”
My brother, from Sioux Falls, SD and my aunt and uncle from Madison, Wisconsin are arriving Sat. However, they’ll stay in town with other family members.
So there’s lots of excitement around here this summer.
The report from the assigned tasks is just so I can monitor progress. So the sentences can be in any form you like, even fragments.
It’s easy for us all to get trapped in certain modes of thinking. We don’t alway realize the necessity of breaking the patterns. And we don’t alway know how.
I’m home alone 😉
My brother who still farms lives in town.
>Sounds like you are really busy …
Maybe I’m good at making it sound like I am really busy, ha!
>”out of sight, out of mind” … 😉
I don’t recall ever hearing that used in the context of relationships…
But there’s the 60s song lyrics, “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.”
Which doesn’t really apply in my case of course!!! But might be a good substitute for out of sight out of mind.
I think my original ideas on this were generated in conversation with a friend I’ve known for a few decades. He claims he “retired” upon graduation from the university. Living where you do, dada, I’ve no doubt you’re familiar with that culture. It has it’s faults, as a life style, but it ain’t a type A existence, that’s for sure.
So in my conversations with him we’ve discussed the type A, 24/7 city folks (could be some in the rural area too, I suppose, but generally city).
Lots of the type As have the income but don’t seem to be enjoying life. Then when they retire they have no clue what to do since they’re still stuck in the momentum of their past working life.
So we used to joke about how we were the “experts” in living the “laid back” lifestyle. So now another long term friend has found herself in that situation. She’s got a great job dollar wise, but not really enjoying it, and having a challenge to decompress from it on the weekends and vacations.
So, so far, we’re kind of jokingly toying around with the idea… since I offered a “seminar” here at the “B&B”.
The “assignments” to be performed are the prerequisite to “qualify” to be accepted for the seminar.
Who knows, it may evolve into something. We’ll see what my friend thinks of the seminar, when we get that far. So far it’s all just tentative ideas.
But with a reflection on the people you know I bet you can see a few who could use such a course.
I’ve got a lot of pretty firmly held notions about lifestyles and choices and am definitely not a type A person.
It amazes me to see the inability of some persons to find that sense of purpose, or persona or whatever, within themselves, that they know is lacking…a very interesting subject on many levels.
It sounds as if you’ve given this enough serious thought to have a pretty definitive idea of how to guide them in the pursuit of whatever it is they’re searching for.
hey, I’d be delighted to have another “client”, so assume you’re in the program. I really think you’d be able to give me some valuable feed back on the “program” as we move along.
So, I’ll email you with the assignment list the same time I email it to my friend.
You mean you really don’t need to be rehabilitated???
Probably the macro flower photography has already done that, right?
I might just have my friend do that as one of her assignments, she’d probably get a kick out of focusing on the little details of life, don’t ya think.
we make the “report” from doin the assignments optional for you… since you’re already rehabilitated.
We’ll say you’re tagging along on the exercises for the fun of it. And then if the spirit moves you, you can comment on any element of it that you like.
Hey my daughter loves the Ramones. I’m trying to find that movie on DVD… anyone finds it… gimmee a holler, please
I love that movie too. Danni has such good taste.
Just searched Powell’s — it’s available online (but not in the store) for $18.28.
Thanks Andi! Hey I never thought of Powells. Duh.

I read it twice and my head hurts now.
The answer is: it comes that way copied from itunes.
But IVG’s answers works too.

Hello Frog Ponders!
It’s the weekend! 😀
time to party?
No – just finished my blog entry for the day. Time to build my new desktop. 😀
Good one on “back dating’.
I read you were building a computer. I`ve heard others elsewhere talk like that. All I know is, I hope you don`t have this problem.

OMG it’s 105 out!!! That’s Beaverton, OR.. just under a few miles from Portland.
Danni’s latest hockey haiku
As Cali knows my daughter is involved with a hockey picks game, she’s actually a veteran of it because she’s been doing it for “half her life” LOL She makes picks of players who will score/assist. One year she almost won it… most other players are my age or older.

but love the kitty’s don’t fuck with me look.
LOL … Andi, when I read your comment in the recent comments section I missed the with first and was wondering what marvellous things you all were discussing … 🙂
Better hope my mom doesn’t read recent comments or I’m in big trouble.
Well we got the cool down but the humidity stayed awful. How about you?
A nice summer day … warm, slight breeze, sun. Cloudy now though.
I saw your (s****r) photo … cool … 🙂
it’s friday night and my brain is in weekend shutdown mode — so I can’t figure out what are the asterisks are for.
I was trying to spare Manny. 🙂
I’d forgotten all about that photo — it was this morning after all — a long time in the life of a geezer brain.
🙂
I thought O was implying there was a “shitter” photo somewhere. ACK 😀
it’s 108!!!!!! a new record!!!!!!
That’s not Kitty btw. A reasonable catsimile though.
Danni uses that puss or a smashed hockey puck for her haiku creations.
the haiku…definitely puts me in hockey mode…and right now a nice cold ice rink sounds quite appealing. Weather report just said that Portland’s heatwave will last through Sunday.
but I just heard that the power is finally back on at my house! Hallelujah!
Hoorray!!!!!! (((CabinGirl))) I’ve been wondering how you’ve been fairing with the trees/electricity down.
Thanks, DJ. We got a call from the electric company around 6:30 saying that we wouldn’t have power until Sunday night, and then around 8:30, the power came back on.
I was so relieved!

Almost done with deck railing finish pieces. I can’t believe I underestimate the time it takes to do projects by so much these days…
What you been up to?
It’s been even longer than my prediction and you thought I was off …
And then we’ll add an FF multiple of 1.5
well, maybe your high school and univ labs went better than they did for me and my friends, but we almost always had to add a Fudge Factor, which we designated by FF, so then the FF was either an amount added, subtacted, mult, or div to get the “correct” answer.
1.5 comes from previous experience I take it? 🙂
was just a WAG.
course, all my experience is w/ wheat…which prob is about to happen, or in progress in ks.
layin low, avoiding doing things i don’t want to do here
winter wheat, (planted in the fall, for those who don’t know), which matures earlier than spring planted crops. We never used to have that here in ND, but now with milder climate over the last decade we do.
And we’ve got lots of row crops like, soybeans, black turtles, pinto beans, sunflowers, that 30 years ago we never had.
down there ims. The fields of sunflowers are really cool to see when they’re in bloom.
That would be something to see …
I try not to go down there in the summer…climate’s a bit harsh.
it’s esp bad tho when the weathers hot and humid. The natives become easily aggitated and more intolerant than normal.
test:
if field is yellow, crop =
if field is blue, crop =
mustard?
alfalfa?
since it’s rare to see a mustard crop, and the farmers actually spray pesticides to get rid of wild mustard, and in recent years we’ve had a crop come down from Candada to ND, so yellow would be canola, and blue, almost a light blue, would be flax, and so far I’ve only seen one field of that this year on the way up to that wedding last weekend.
alfalfa is a little darker, lavender maybe? I’m not so hot on my colours once I get loose from the major ones.
if i have i didn’t know what it was…Google, here I come…brb
But, a field of mustard is a glorious site — glows yellow. I’m going to have to google too …
mustard
canola
flax
great links, great pix. You really found some nice examples of those crops.
Question, do you have cottonwood trees in Ottowa? Or near you?
I’d have to start looking for them … b/c I have no idea. Why?
If you’ve got them up there you might have to go to a park or out in the country. They rarely grow alone. So there’s usually two or three or more together. And they’re huge. They’re native I think to the ND prairie. Out at the Cross Ranch, on the Missouri River there are some exceptoinally huge ones, might even be the tallest trees in the state for all I know.
But you want to go listen to the leaves at diff times of the season. There should be some wind. You need more wind now and less in the fall when the leaves are dry. So there’s a diff “tune” to this huge wind chime depending on the season of the life of the leaves.
I guess late fall when they’re really dry is my favorite time for listening to them. Anyway, there’s nothing else quite like it around here.
😉
No 1 was go walking in the cool wet grass (lawn grass)the cooler the better.
I’ve already failed!
🙂
What if we don’t have any wet grass? Can I artificially simiulate by wetting w/ the hose?
yeah, I reckon you could git by with the using the hose for now, but if it does rain you can still go out and do the exercise.
Oh, and the list numbers don’t have to be done sequentially necessarily.
thought I heard a BNF … look there’s one now. 🙂
so ya survived the work week with mental faculties intact?
… if the damage was permanent. 😉
So are you ever planning on returning to the city … Doesn’t Ms NDD get lonely …?
I might be in need of your assistance there NDD … 🙂 Are these sentences like poetry or free form stream of consciousness type stuff.
Are you at the farm by yourself then? Do your brothers stay there?
I’ve heard the saying … and it’s opposite: “out of sight, out of mind” … 😉
Sounds like you are really busy …
The report from the assigned tasks is just so I can monitor progress. So the sentences can be in any form you like, even fragments.
It’s easy for us all to get trapped in certain modes of thinking. We don’t alway realize the necessity of breaking the patterns. And we don’t alway know how.

Which doesn’t really apply in my case of course!!! But might be a good substitute for out of sight out of mind.
yellow could be sunflowers if you’re in the right orientation, green if you’re not…
blue – haven’t a clue
a vocation or an avocation?
I think my original ideas on this were generated in conversation with a friend I’ve known for a few decades. He claims he “retired” upon graduation from the university. I wouldn’t be surprised if the laid-back guru/teacher ends up learning more than the clients.
to pursue it, imo
Maybe that’s what I should have traded for the photo LOL …
“If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.” Which doesn’t really apply in my case of course!!! Sure it can … 😉
hey, I’d be delighted to have another “client”, so assume you’re in the program. I really think you’d be able to give me some valuable feed back on the “program” as we move along.
