This is what failure looks like:
“Iraq as a political project is finished,” a top government official told Reuters — anonymously because the coalition of Shi’ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki remains committed in public to a U.S.-sponsored constitution preserving Iraq’s unity.
“The parties have moved to Plan B,” the official said, saying Sunni, ethnic Kurdish and majority Shi’ite blocs were looking at ways to divide power and resources and to solve the conundrum of Baghdad’s mixed population of seven million.
“There is serious talk of Baghdad being divided into east and west,” said the official, who has long been a proponent of the present government’s objectives. “We are extremely worried.”
There is an enormous humanitarian crisis looming, if anyone cares. I don’t know what to do about it. I wish we could replace our government, as they clearly are powerless to help. But on the domestic side, these events are causing the Republicans to scurry for cover.
Events in Lebanon are a distraction. As Joe Cocker said, “you can only bang your head against a wall for so long before it hurts.” Republicans are finding that out now. In November they are really going to need some Excedrin.
Vietnam that the Neocons bought them with all of their contributions and loyalty oaths. It is a sad sad day, one that most people knew was coming a long way off. I wonder how long before Turkey feels fully justified to attack the Kurds now.
yeah, I suppose this shit salad could use a few more ingredients.
As Iraq descends into Congo-scale carnage and 700,000 flee the looming Israeli invasion of Lebanon, the de facto US President probes the depth of psychopathy:
I used to think he was shallow, then I thought he was in deep shit, but he just piles it higher and higher a makes a shit mountain out of it.
Tracy, just look at his face if you wonder what he is.
This is the man who opposed the release of the “terrorist” Nelson Mandela from Robben Island.
I’m a philosopher with a degree in political science. I usually find it unhelpful to simply call leaders evil. Not so in this case.
I feel that the rethugs will use the ongoing carnage in Lebanon to promote the idea that they and only they can be “tough” enough to deal with all the crises. Unfortunately, they are not so tough as stupid and greedy. And our citizenry do not know how to distinguish the characteristics. I thought the idea that Bush’s approval ratings were somewhat in the cellar would diminish his big megaphone, but apparently not. Now we have all the PNAC drones going war war war 24/7. And the so called news organizations are pushing pushing pushing the themes as well.
Dear BooMan . . .
Please, if it is finished, let us end the needless suffering. I thank you for sharing this excellent post. I love the Joe Cocker reference.
What we all knew what would come to pass is.
