“He knew who I was, at that time, because I had a reputation as a writer. I knew he was part of the Bush dynasty. But he was nothing, he offered nothing, and he promised nothing. He had no humor. He was insignificant in every way and consequently I didn’t pay much attention to him. But when he passed out in my bathtub, then I noticed him. I’d been in another room, talking to the bright people. I had to have him taken away.” -Hunter S. Thompson on meeting George W Bush at his Super Bowl party in Houston in 1974.
“[T]his blizzard of mind-warping war propaganda out of Washington is building up steam. Monday is Anthrax, Tuesday is Bankruptcy, Friday is Child-Rape, Thursday is Bomb-scares, etc., etc., etc…. If we believed all the brutal, frat-boy threats coming out of the White House, we would be dead before Sunday. It is pure and savage terrorism reminiscent of Nazi Germany.”
“We are turning into a nation of whimpering slaves to Fear — fear of war, fear of poverty, fear of random terrorism, fear of getting down-sized or fired because of the plunging economy, fear of getting evicted for bad debts, or suddenly getting locked up in a military detention camp on vague charges of being a Terrorist sympathizer.”
“If we get chased out of Iraq with our tail between our legs, that will be the fifth consecutive Third-world country with no hint of a Navy or an Air Force to have whipped us in the past 40 years.”
There’s the problem right there, isn’t it? How do these people get to the place that killing others is some sort of college football game where our “School’s Honor” is at stake. Can’t let ’em whup us again. . .
Perhaps they should figure out by now that eventually people stand up to the bully and whup his egotistical, wimpy little ass.
Too bad Hunter Thompson didn’t turn on the water and let the pigmy potentate drown. . .would have saved the world a lot of sorrows.
ouch. News getting to you shirl?
It once was that under every rock was some disgusting bit of information withheld from us. . .now even the gravel has disgusting slimy ooze under every pebble.
I lost it at the NO CEASE FIRE stance. Can’t seem to see beyond it.
The people in charge here are disgusting, beyond disgusting. We need the bug man with his exterminating crew to spary the lot of them (heh, Tom Delay isn’t that busy these days is he? just that pesky little indictment stuff).
No, none of it makes sense and neither do I any more.
I’m with you Shirl. Every time I see Rice’s inappropriately smiling face talking about “a lasting peace” my head swims.
Rice, the finest young mind the conservative movement could produce.
I figure she became a temporary member of the Culture of Life.
great stuff. Stay cool shirl, his time is approaching very fast.
When gas hits $5.00/gal the populace will go nuts and that will be all she wrote for the:
‘Pygmy Potentate’.
I comes down to that old question, doesn’t it — “but who will drown the rat”?
It should have been easy to be suspicious that the most powerful country ust be so fragile and sensitive to terrorism and fear. How it come that it was so hard to stand up against that fear politics? Were the neo-cons just too well prepared, or was there no counter-tactics against that?
I think it is finally reaching the point that even calm, quiet folks are starting to get sick and tired of living in fear very day of their lives. I keeping asking myself, “how we will know if we have eliminated all the terrorists?” It is question I can not seem to get an answer to and wish someone could enlighten me on it.
Shirl, I can understand your anger at this moment. It just looks so hopeless but it is good to release the anger so it does not consume you.
Thank you for your kind words. I am so far beyond anger that I am not angry. I just want answers to the questions that no one will answer. I hope that others will find the idea of NO CEASE FIRE as untenable and inhumane as I do. . .I am willing to stand at the front of the line anywhere the line forms to demand answers. I really don’t believe in violence of in type. It never is the answer. But I don’t mind yelling and yelling loudly until something is done.
To say we support NO CEASE FIRE is like saying, WE SUPPORT YOU MURDERING INNOCENT WOMEN, CHILDREN AND MEN Well I do not support it and I never will!
As for terroists. . .we know how to solve the problem of terrorist. We just won’t do it. It does not serve this Administrations goals. It may not serve most administrations goals. You give people a helping hand up off the dirt. You train them in ways that will add to the quality of their lives. You respect their beliefs and you offer them opportunities to be successful in the world. Little things like being able to feed their families, being able to go to school, being respected for who they are no matter what their skin color or “religious” beliefs are. We know how to end terrorism, but then who would be our “Boogeyman?” And if there are no boogeymen, it is awfully hard to convince your people to go to war and kill each other for personal and political (power) gain. You lift people up so we can all look each other in the eyes and say welcome brother.
Sorry for running off at the keyboard. . .just passionately feel what it is going to take and wish others would be willing to see it.
Hugs
Shirl

Read Too Late for Empire by Jonathan Schell for information on the curiously fearful mindset of the largest empire that has ever existed. This puts a historical context around the hysterics we are seeing
Medea Benjamin was arrested during al-Maliki’s speech today.
Bless her heart and her courage. Why doesn’t the MSM show any of this? Not a mention of the fasters. . .I am so not surprised.
what is it about certain people that makes them think nuking parts of the world will solve all our problems?
We were angry and righteous in those days, and there were millions of us. We kicked two chief executives out of the White House because they were stupid warmongers. We conquered Lyndon Johnson and we stomped on Richard Nixon — which wise people said was impossible, but so what? It was fun. We were warriors then, and our tribe was strong like a river.
That river is still running. All we have to do is get out and vote, while it’s still legal, and we will wash those crooked warmongers out of the White House.
–Hunter S. Thompson, 2004
