Sorry I’m late…got caught in the summer Friday traffic disaster…

Nice set, Cabin Girl. I finally got turned on to Gnarls Barkley recently, and damn, that voice is the real deal.
It’s not something I would normally pick, but I heard ‘Go Daddy Go’ and ‘Crazy’, and had to have the whole disc.
Heh, he had me at Crazy.
The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing – Persuasions
Peace Piece – Bill Evans
Why Can’t We Live Together – Joan Osborne
Something Wild – John Hiatt
This Is All I Ask – Scott Hamilton, Jake Hanna, Dave Mckenna
Bold Privateer – Eliza Carthy
Easy Rider – Big Brother & The Holding Company
Little Rain – Blues Project
Sea Of Love – Katie Webster
No Long Journey Home – Cowboy Junkies
I bet you know more of mine this week than I know of yours. π
I know all but two but I don’t have a name nearly as good as ‘Echo and Bunnymen’ (but I could swear I saw the movie on MST3K).
I only know 3 of yours. Is the other one you don’t know the Jem tune? You might like that, it’s pretty.
Echo & The Bunnymen were an 80s phenom among the young hipster set who were too cool for Top 40 radio.
That’s gotta be 4, right? Joan Osborne, John Hiatt, Cowboy Junkies, Big Brother.
I know Joan Osbourne, Cowboy Junkies and The Blues Project.
— that’s Janis Joplin’s original band.
I’m surprised you don’t know John Hiatt but you know an old band like Blues Project.
D’oh!
Yeah, I had hippie parents. π What I remember is hazy from the years since and my parents’ friends smoking habits.
I’ve been to an Echo & the Bunnymen concert. All upfront – next to a speaker rack. My ears are still ringing.
I’m jealous.
Hey ask, been a while since we crossed paths, how’re things going? Is your situation with the asklets better by now, I hope I hope?
Hi Indy,
It was ca. 1985.
Yes, thanks – all sorted out.
We just had vacation in Norway, they continue with relatives in Sweden till school starts.
Very nice. I love that Joan Osborne disc with all the covers, and John Hiatt and the Cowboy Junkies are always good too.
I really like Joan Osborne’s voice, especially the way it carries emotion.
She’s been singing with Phil Lesh’s band this year.
Old Man – Neil Young
Bring On The Dancing Horses – Echo & The Bunnymen
Get The Party Started – Pink
Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah!) – Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman – Dr. Hook
Dance With Me – Orleans
Summertime – Janis Joplin
Why Can’t I? – Liz Phair
Amazing Life – Jem
La Isla Bonita – Madonna
membership card but I gotta tell ya, I hate Neil Young’s voice and always have. I went into mourning when CSN became CSN&Y.
I have an ex who was nuts for Neil, and he sorta grew on me.
I bet you were thrilled when Y left CSN, tho’. π
Not hearing Neil Young sing always makes me happy.
It’s not about his voice Andi. It’s about clanging guitars rockin out!
he coulda just played and not sang. π
Yeah I like that too!
Very cool. And I recognize all of yours!
The Philadelphia Folk Fest lineup for next weekend is better than they’ve had in years: PFF
David Lindley and Jackson Browne on Saturday afternoon, James Hunter, Shemekia Copeland on Sunday night, and more. Sigh.
I know it evidences my dorkitude, but Jackson Browne would make it worth the trip for me. π
David Lindley was part of his band way back when…I’ve only caught them playing together once before, when El Rayo X was opening for JB a million summers ago.
Guess we’re both dorky…
God sends his spaceships to America, the beautiful
They land at six o’clock and there we are, the dutiful
Eating from TV trays, tuned into to Happy Days
Waiting for World War III while Jesus slaves
To the mating calls of lawyers in love
π
I gotta run to go have dinner with my housemate, hopefully I’ll see you guys later tonight.
Let’s see what ol’ Uncle Omir has in the musical goodie bag tonight:
I Wish I Were – Da Vinci’s Notebook
What’s A Simple Man To Do? – Steve Earle
Marrakesh Espress – Crosby, Stills & Nash
There But For Fortune – Joan Baez
My Blessed Pain – Blues Traveler
Grocery Blues – Arlo Guthrie
Key To The Highway – Little Walter
Paragon Rag (Scott Joplin) – Joshua Rifkin
Windmills Of Your Mind – Dusty Springfield
Someone Keeps Moving My Chair – They Might Be Giants
For everybody that loves the night sky, this Sat. should be the best night to watch the Perseid shower. The first hour of darkness will have smaller ones showing. Don`t let the moon deter you from watching. The later in the night the brighter the shower will be although you`ll only be able to see the real bright ones. In any event, it`s still nice to enjoy a stargazing
outing.
anybody up? Just got home from my co-op shift followed by a visit to a party around the corner from my place-it featured a punk band singing in Spanish out in the backyard and they were pretty good! I said hello to those I knew and congratulated the people whose birthdays were the reason for the party then came home where I could hear the music perfectly well a block away. All went quiet shortly therafter which leads me to believe that my hunch about police arriving before long was correct. Another party tomorrow night but a bit more staid-reading favorite or original literary works out in a big yard under the stars.
Two parties (both going-away ones) and two art showings next week-no lonely Saturdays for two weeks!
1. Brick House-the Commodores (as always! #1 with a bullet!)
2.Crazy-Patsy Cline
3.Strawberry Letter #23-Shuggy Otis
4.Spy in the House of Love-the Doors
5.Is This Love-Bob Marley and the Wailers
6.Angola-Cesario Evora
7.Pheli War-Bally Jagpal
8.Ballad of the Broken Word-Keali’i Reichel
9.The Last Time-Blind Boys of Alabama
10.Ashes to Ashes-Daniel Trujillo
I’m playing with my new toy: a 160GB External Hard Drive. Finally organizing my iPod playlists after having the darn thing for over a year. That party sounds like lots of fun, I can’t wait for the Ozomatli concert on Friday in Flagstaff. Great latin group.
