I got a blister hiking through the wilds of Central Park to take that photo yesterday. Oh, the sacrifices I make to bring new pictures to the cafe…</melodramatic performance by reformed drama queen>
MY Ten:
Vertigo – U2
Fire Island – Fountains of Wayne
Prohibition has Done Me Wrong – Jorma Kaukonen
Ramble On – Dread Zeppelin
Deep Dish – Ani DiFranco
Blue Mule – Old and In the Way
B’Gock! – Deep Banana Blackout
Laugh as the Sun – Rusted Root
Grandfather’s Clock – David Grisman and Tony Rice
Nobody’s Angel – Nanci Grffith
Unfortunately, I’m already back at the cabin (I was enjoying my last full day of grown-up fun yesterday while the CabinBoys were at sleep-away camp)…but there’s this Chihuly exhibit that I’ll be heading back up that way to see before it’s gone. Maybe we can meet up then?
And I recognize 7 of your artists, but only 3 of the songs! What are Pojo Pojo and The Art of Noise?
I followed your link, and there below the big animated picture were four smaller pictures – three more Chihulys, and “Portrait of Al Gore in Blue” promoting their climate change conference. The climate change conference also sounds great:
Climate Change: Prospects for Nature
A Half-Day Symposium in Manhattan
September 15, 2006 * 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Eminent scientists will present fresh, relevant scientific data. Panelists will provide context and perspective on compelling scientific issues facing life on Earth. And Mr. Gore’s keynote address will set forth powerful evidence that this bout of climate change is not merely part of natural cycles. The symposium, “Climate Change: Prospects for Nature,” will be held in the Auditorium at the AXA Equitable Center, 787 Seventh Avenue, New York City, starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2006.
The half-day symposium is open to the public [$35 per person; $20 for members of The New York Botanical Garden; and $15 for students (with valid ID).] and has been organized by The New York Botanical Garden and Thomas E. Lovejoy, Ph.D., principal editor of Climate Change and Biodiversity, which summarizes the most recent scientific research and current thinking on global warming.
Excellent photo of Gore looking very visionary. If he runs he ought to use this photo in his campaign literature.
The Flying Red Horse – John Gorka
Synchronicity II – The Police
New World Man – Rush
The Four Horsemen – Metallica
Galileo – Indigo Girls
NM156 – Queensryche
Ventura Highway – America
Terminus Eldorado – Ted Nugent
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap – AC/DC
Brian Wilson – BNL
Really? I’ve seen people mention Gorka here before, but he’s fairly obscure. I love that song, though it makes me cry these days. I went and saw him late last November, and I cried all the way through the second half of the show.
I recognize almost none of the songs on your list–some of the artists, either. I’d like to check them out, I seriously need some new music.
Chain of Fools – Aretha Franklin
Lovely Day – Bill Withers
It’s Been Awhile – Staind
Tubthumping – Chumbawamba
Miami Vice Theme – Jan Hammer (shutup)
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
Wonderful Tonight (Studio) – Eric Clapton
The Wind – Cat Stevens
Stay Up Late – Talking Heads
Pick Up The Pieces – Average White Band
Aw, Cat Stevens’ ‘The Wind’…my friends played that on the guitar and cello at some big special party I had a long time ago…probably one of the better parts of that party. 🙂
Would you believe I have never seen a single episode of that show? I’ve accidentally run onto the sets a number of times, and was once even mildly sexually harassed by the two male leads, but never actually sat down and watched the show.
Great image. We should dance 😉
I cannot top that, but here is one from the real Cafe del Mar (the compilations were made by the dj there). Used to be the coolest cafe in the world (apart from FBC, obviously), but has become way to crowded the last decade after the compilations made it famous.
Holy smokes, man, did you spend the entire second half of the 80s under a rock down there in ‘Bama? ;p I thought no one could escape that theme but maybe that was just in Miami. Which would kinda make sense.
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress – The Hollies
Refugee – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Haitian Divorce – Steely Dan
Shine It On – The Allman Brothers Band
Baby I’m-A Want You – Bread
Ghost Train – Marc Cohn
I Have The Touch – Peter Gabriel
Hangin’ On To The Good Times – Little Feat
Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out – Derek & The Dominos
Claudia – Boz Scaggs
I Believe – Chicago
If you don’t remember these, then you were in diapers, or worse yet, not born. I’ve got to get some new music.
I had all my albums recorded into mp3 format on the computer, but then lost it all. It was really a pain to record them all, but one day I’ll get it done again.
My computer didn’t have the connections so I bought a Dazzle USB connector. When I did it, it wasn’t the best, but it was listenable. To turn it into mp3s I just downloaded some free programs that work great.
Al Dubin – Harry Warren / September In The Rain – Scott Hamilton, Jake Hanna, Dave Mckenna
Fearless Love – Bonnie Raitt
Birthday – The Beatles
Chain Gang – Sam Cooke
I’ll Be Around – Joan Osborne
Why Can’t We Live Together? – Steve Winwood
A Foggy Day – Ella Fitzgerald
China White – Little Feat
Teach Your Children – Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Deacon Blues – Steely Dan
from my favorite Joan Osborne cd makes the list again this week. Think I’ll have to listen to that one on the way to get the guys back from camp.
Did I mention that I’m glad they’re coming home today? It’ll be at least a week until I sing “how can I miss you when you won’t go away?” to them again…
Yes, you did mention that…you helped convince me it was a good idea to send them!
They looked pretty happy when I left them there on Sunday, so I’m looking forward to hearing about what a great time they had and that they want to go for longer next year.
And with that, I’m heading out to reclaim them. Catch you on the flipside! 🙂
Hoosegow [E# and Queen Ester]: later
E#’s Terraplane: like showers of rain
James Blood Ulmer: bright lights, big city
Fruitland Jackson: blues 2.0
Renee Marie: how can I keep from singing
Cassandra Wilson: blackcrow
sankofa
estrella’s
redbone
Patricia Barber: summertime

Whatch’all got this week?
Hi CG,
Still in town?
Hm, I only know 2 of your 10 and have heard of one more.
Here’s what came up for me:
Hi ask!
Yes, please let us know next time you come by.
curly is also a Chihuli fan and took me to the store up in Lenox (? – I think it was there) last fall.
Art of Noise; what if I say Max Headroom.
Pojo Pojo – see comment to Indy just below.
RE: Chihuly exhibit.
I’m so jealous!!!
I followed your link, and there below the big animated picture were four smaller pictures – three more Chihulys, and “Portrait of Al Gore in Blue” promoting their climate change conference. The climate change conference also sounds great:
Excellent photo of Gore looking very visionary. If he runs he ought to use this photo in his campaign literature.
Maybe you want to come too? We can pick you up at the Newark airport on the way… 🙂
Ask I only know 4 of yours. The numbers keep decreasing as I head to the top.
In the City–one of my all time favorite Eagles cuts. Nice choice.
that come to mind:
The Flying Red Horse – John Gorka
Synchronicity II – The Police
New World Man – Rush
The Four Horsemen – Metallica
Galileo – Indigo Girls
NM156 – Queensryche
Ventura Highway – America
Terminus Eldorado – Ted Nugent
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap – AC/DC
Brian Wilson – BNL
I’m working my way up the thread and I must be on a roll. Wolverine I know 7 of yours.
Definitely a good taste in music. Of course when I get up to CG’s list I know I’ll be blown out of the water. 🙂
I know at least 7 of yours too, FM–if I heard them I bet I’d recognize them all.
You probably would. Most of these were bought during my top 10 era.
Hey, I recognize everything on your list!
Sorry about that last post, CG. 21st birthday coming up, would have been, been on my mind a lot lately. Didn’t mean to be a downer.
Gotta run, out of work for the week. Thanks for the de-lerk.
Bye!
(((WW)))
I’d like to join CG in handing out a huge hug, ww.
Thank you both.
CD I feel lucky I know 1 of your. 🙂
Sorry, should have been CG instead of CD. 🙂
All that proves is that I have musical tastes that border on the biszarre and obscure. 😉
And the above post proves that I can’t type.
Won’t say that. You’ve put up some links to songs that I liked. I’ll join you in the land of biszarre and obscure.
Not this week though — my score was 7.
Chain of Fools – Aretha Franklin
Lovely Day – Bill Withers
It’s Been Awhile – Staind
Tubthumping – Chumbawamba
Miami Vice Theme – Jan Hammer (shutup)
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd
Wonderful Tonight (Studio) – Eric Clapton
The Wind – Cat Stevens
Stay Up Late – Talking Heads
Pick Up The Pieces – Average White Band
Aw, Cat Stevens’ ‘The Wind’…my friends played that on the guitar and cello at some big special party I had a long time ago…probably one of the better parts of that party. 🙂
I’m guessing which party that might have been and why you’re not naming it. 🙂
Cat Stevens and Gordon Lightfoot always remind me of my dad.
Let’s just say it didn’t end well… 🙂
Hi Indy,
That looks more familiar than what CG came up with. I know all but 2.
I know all of yours today except for Pojo Pojo.
Sorry Indy,
I switched the title/group.
The group is Cyberfit and I picked it up from a compilation (Cafe del Mar – Volumen Cinco).
I have noticed before that we have quite a bit in common (and I think you commented to that effect a while ago).
Yeah we do. And we dance well together, too. ;p
What episode of miami vice is that from?
Would you believe I have never seen a single episode of that show? I’ve accidentally run onto the sets a number of times, and was once even mildly sexually harassed by the two male leads, but never actually sat down and watched the show.
What do you the show for, you’ve got your own miami vices.
Touché.
Great image. We should dance 😉
I cannot top that, but here is one from the real Cafe del Mar (the compilations were made by the dj there). Used to be the coolest cafe in the world (apart from FBC, obviously), but has become way to crowded the last decade after the compilations made it famous.
The place to hang to watch the sunset.
Someday, ask. Someday. 🙂
Indy I know 7 of yours. This must mean we’re really groovy. 🙂
I’m going to guess you don’t know Staind or Chumbawamba, but I can’t figure out which other one?
Those were the two I don’t know.
(Will try to remember to check them out when back home.)
The Staind cut is a little angsty, but the Chumbawamba one is fun.
Add jan hammer and that rounds out for the not known.
Holy smokes, man, did you spend the entire second half of the 80s under a rock down there in ‘Bama? ;p I thought no one could escape that theme but maybe that was just in Miami. Which would kinda make sense.
Most of the 80’s was in Europe. Miami Vice is to Miami like Sweet Home Alabama is to here.
I always wondered since they were from Florida why they didn’t call it Sweet Home Florida.
Woulda been harder to take that shot at Neil Young, iffin they had. 🙂
Here’s the geezerly random 10.
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress – The Hollies
Refugee – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Haitian Divorce – Steely Dan
Shine It On – The Allman Brothers Band
Baby I’m-A Want You – Bread
Ghost Train – Marc Cohn
I Have The Touch – Peter Gabriel
Hangin’ On To The Good Times – Little Feat
Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out – Derek & The Dominos
Claudia – Boz Scaggs
I Believe – Chicago
If you don’t remember these, then you were in diapers, or worse yet, not born. I’ve got to get some new music.
Geezerly? Come on, I have all of those artists and I’m a good, what, 2 or 3 years younger than you? 😉
Yeah sure 2 or 3 years. 🙂
Excuse me, but Marc Cohn definitely gets you out of the Geezer realm, doesn’t it?
And can you believe he’s married to Elizabeth Varga from the news?
Yeah Marc Cohn sneaked in under the geezer radar. 😉
Lots of good stuff, FM.
Little Feat; forgot about them. Still have some albums in a card box in Norway.
I had all my albums recorded into mp3 format on the computer, but then lost it all. It was really a pain to record them all, but one day I’ll get it done again.
Need to bring that box home ask.
Most of the old vinyl is with me here, but the turn-table has given up on me years ago. Could be fixed, I guess.
How do you get it from turn-table to MP3 on the computer?
My computer didn’t have the connections so I bought a Dazzle USB connector. When I did it, it wasn’t the best, but it was listenable. To turn it into mp3s I just downloaded some free programs that work great.
Thanks, I’ll check that out.
That list rocks, FM. Spin the black circle, man.
Thanks wolverine.
Little Feat on two FRTs — must mean it’s going to be a rockin’ weekend.
Al Dubin – Harry Warren / September In The Rain – Scott Hamilton, Jake Hanna, Dave Mckenna
Fearless Love – Bonnie Raitt
Birthday – The Beatles
Chain Gang – Sam Cooke
I’ll Be Around – Joan Osborne
Why Can’t We Live Together? – Steve Winwood
A Foggy Day – Ella Fitzgerald
China White – Little Feat
Teach Your Children – Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Deacon Blues – Steely Dan
Andi I got 7 of yours too.
Great geezers listen alike.
Steely Dan–that’s the second listing for them. I’m going straght home to put some on, then I’m dancing with the kids in the living room.
They would like the BNL I have on in the ear buds right now better, though.
from my favorite Joan Osborne cd makes the list again this week. Think I’ll have to listen to that one on the way to get the guys back from camp.
Did I mention that I’m glad they’re coming home today? It’ll be at least a week until I sing “how can I miss you when you won’t go away?” to them again…
Glad they’re coming home but hoping they’ll go for two week next year, eh.
Did I ever mention to you that I went away to camp for 4 weeks when I was 11, and 8 weeks when I was 12 and 13. I never missed home for a minute.
Drive carefully CG.
Hah I got that beat hands down. I got sent to a military school for a year when I was 13.

no plans other than working on the Blues Fest photos…started once and lost about 6 hrs of work somehow, so gotta start over…that and normal RL stuff.
Just don’t tell anyone … since I’ve still got 1/2hr to go … 😉
Make sure you save multiple copies and often … and use two b/up mediums … like your hard drive and a memory stick or CD/DVD or something … 🙂
I culd use one of those internally…easy for you to say…Luddiville’s where I live…:{)
some days I could really use some help in that dept. too …
yeah, you don’t fool me d .. you’ve probably got an entire drawer full of ’em. 🙂
