An environmentalist group that once held up Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman as an “environmental champion” is so far witholding its financial backing for the embattled Democrat, RAW STORY has learned.
The League of Conservation Voters, which has endorsed a key group of senators and representatives it believes are good on environmental policy in Congress, has pledged to provide funding for several senators, according to the National Journal’s Congress Daily PM. However, the group has so far failed to fund Lieberman’s campaign, though it did endorse him. […]
The report also notes that the Sierra Club has witheld its endorsement from Lieberman.
Kudos to the Sierra Club and league of Conservation Voters (even if, as I suspect, they are only doing so out of fear that Lamont might win rather than conviction).
Not as damning as the Insurance industry dumping him, but a positive sign. Maybe the start of a trend? Let’s hope so.

You sound like Kos hammering on the “special interests” (as if some of us don’t need clean air and water?) for not playing nice with the Democratic party. Why question their motives? If we want them to hang out in our tent, we should just thank them warmly and move along.
Do we know much about Lamont’s environmental stands at all? I assume he’s saying the right things at least?
You beat me to it, Knoxville. As far as I recall, Lieberman has a pretty good environmental voting record. So it’s the job of environmental groups to advance the cause that their members are there for.
Haven’t followed the SC discussion nationally, but I do know that at the local level there’s been divisive argument on how we define environmental goodness — the Iraq invasion, for example, is obviously environmental destruction, but will it be as destructive as getting more oil flowing again? There are no easy environmental answers, and easy snipes at those wrestling with them are misplaced.
But I see the latest Quinnipiac poll has Liebermann leading 53-41. He leads big with Repubs and Independents and retains over a third of Dems. The endorsement caount may be against Joe but can his lead be reversed?
Oh and Rell leads 60-28 for governor too, so it all looks rather disappointing to me.
