Via Kos, Josh Marshall’s site, TPM Muckraker is reporting that Scholastic, Inc. has backed out of the deal to distribute study guide materials for ABC’s docudrama “The Path to Glory.”
Educational media giant Scholastic, Inc. announced it’s dropping its original classroom companion guides to a controversial new docudrama about the events preceding the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks — and replacing them with materials stressing critical thinking and media literacy.
βAfter a thorough review of the original guide that we offered online to about 25,000 high school teachers, we determined that the materials did not meet our high standards for dealing with controversial issues,β said Dick Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic, in a press release.
What’s your good news?
Eavesdropping Bill Stalls in Committee
That is good news.
Yes…but will it remain stalled…
Sadly I’m skeptical…
Americablog reports that the Democratic leadership in the senate just sent Disney a VERY stongly-worded letter that sounds vaguely like they will take away ABC’s license if they show the 911 movie.

Sounds good to me. Except I’d miss Lost.
Glad to hear there is a little spine beginning to show among the leadership.
Thanks for the good catch.
I’m still breathing…lol!
Good for Scholastic. But who at Scholastic brokered the original deal? Find the mole!
but the real good news won’t come until we have confirmation that ABC is not airing the shlockumentary at all.
I just got out of an interview that I think went pretty well with a clustering system vendor here in Seattle. I should know back about it in the next day or two.
And just before I set off on that interview, I got word that a guy I used to work with at Microsoft is looking for contractors doing stuff I used to do there. So I may be in the enviable position of having two job offers to consider. Better than none, you know.
You’ve aroused my curiosity.
What the heck is that?
Signed,
Somewhat technologically challenged π
A “cluster” is a group of computers that works together as a single unit. Usually when one thinks of a cluster it’s a supercomputer, where a problem is parceled out in small pieces to a group of computers, then the answers to the sub-problems are collated into the answer to the larger problem. They’re the sort of thing you would use in things like DNA sequencing, weather modeling, stuff like that.
This particular vendor makes products that distribute a file system among a group of computers, first off to get more storage space, second to make data available redundantly so that if one node in the cluster goes down, the data can be accessed through a different node.
I hope that explains it, and I hope you’re not sorry you asked.
Hope that the work is plentiful, pleasant, and highly remunerative.
are you ready for some football?
I responded to your question in the morning cafe.
read Harry Potter! Thank you Scholastic!!!!
!
Great news, Kelly! Congratulations!
I’m pleased and happily befuddled at the reception it’s gotten so far.
Does that mean we have to act now to get a copy of the collectible first edition? π
I feel like I’ve just been pitched a big fat softball. Honestly, I don’t know if the first edition will ever be considered collectible, but if it matters to anyone, then yes they want to grab copies already on the shelves. I think both Amazon and Barnes and Noble are currently out and, if so, they’ll be restocking with 2nd edition.
Heh, I was just being a smart aleck mostly. Unless you write the second coming of Gone With The Wind, I doubt that the first edition of a mass market paperback is ever going to fetch a lot of money, even if it is your first book.
But hey, I’d love to be wrong, and it could be that after you have a few World Fantasy Awards under your belt, people will be looking for that signed first edition after all. π
But I know it does matter to some. And if that’s not enough, there’s a slim chance that if my career really takes off, it’ll some day be worth a bit more used than it was at cover price. What more could you ask for?
I was just at the Barnes and Noble near my house this week and wanted to make sure they had your book stocked (I already have one of those valuable signed first addition copies – but wanted to make sure so I could harass the store if they didn’t have it). Not only was it there – but they had it highlighted in the display on the shelf. I wanted to shout – “Hey, I KNOW this guy!!”
Hope all is well with you.
Thanks for checking on the book. Life is pretty crazy right now with Dr.Mc starting back to school, book promotion, and various family emergencies, but it’s mostly good crazy. I hope life is treating you well also.
