Powell’s Books presents…
AMY GOODMAN
Award-Winning Journalist & Host of Democracy Now!
Doors at 11 a.m.; event at 12 noon | Free | All ages welcome
Amy Goodman is the host and executive producer of Democracy Now!. She is co-author of the national best-seller THE EXCEPTION TO THE RULERS: EXPOSING OILY POLITICIANS, WAR PROFITEERS, AND THE MEDIA THAT LOVE THEM written with her brother David Goodman. The book was chosen by independent bookstores as the #1 political title of the 2004 election season. The book was also chosen as one of the top 50 nonfiction books of 2004 by the editors of Publishers Weekly.
Democracy Now! is a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program airing on over 450 stations in North America. Pioneering the largest public media collaboration in the U.S., Democracy Now! is broadcast on Pacifica, NPR, community, and college radio stations; on public access, PBS, satellite television (DISH network: Free Speech TV ch. 9415 and Link TV ch. 9410; DIRECTV: Link TV ch. 375); as a podcast and on the Internet.
That Baghdad Theater looks cool…and the guys who re-did that have done some really neat hotels too, one of which has a public access swimming pool in it (it’s an old school building).
Other than a picnic Sunday and co-op work/flirting with leftist dudes shift tonight there’s open space! Maybe I should actually do some house projects & maintenance.
Does that mean that you have plans that don’t include SurlyBoy? 😉
(When my sister — lo, these very many years ago — was at the height of her unpleasantness, she would refuse to do anything with the family and we were all sooooo relieved.)
(Don’t tell, but sometimes we feel that way about CBtE too.)
He’s actually HappyBoy today because he did all his homework this week and improved his attitude enough that he can go to the mall with his pals this evening.
BTW, I’m wishing I lived closer to Chicago so I could come to the midwest meetup. 🙂
May HappyBoy grace your abode for many days to come.
I’m trying to figure out how to break it to Mary that neither you or SN are coming. I figure I should tell her within minutes of her arriving home so that the effect will be thoroughly diluted by the combination of Italy euphoria and jet lag.
it needs to be said! This is my conspiracy theory: the NSA is blocking my fundamental right to watch the Daily Show clips. Yep, it’s true. I have Jon Stewart bookmarked and try to watch his clips from overseas. Guess what, I get:
“connecting to media” every time. But it never connects to the “media”. Hmmm, right-wing media?????
Every once in awhile I will get “buffering *%” and rarely do I get my clip of unadulterated humor. I am pissed, I tell you, pissed!
Black-ops have blacked out my humor, now I’m pissed. I now have to suffer through Germany’s answer to David Letterman: Harold Schmidt.
Man, I don’t want to have to think about and translate my humor, I just want to laugh.
It’s a government conspiracy, I tell you, it really is! It’s a good thing my room is coated with tin-foil…..wait a minute…. maybe that is what is interfering with my transmissions…
Happy Friday to everyone!!!!!! I have a pretty neat weekend planned. I will be attending a BRBQ for a candidate running for county commisioner tomorrow, working on designs and web sites, Sunday will be designs and more political stuff and then Monday I will attend the memorial service for Ann Richards and also a Stonewall Democrats meeting.
I want to thank Andi, CabinGirl, Anonymous,Kidspeak, & Teach for sponsoring me for the AIDS WALK!!!! I am posting the design and it will take you to my donations page.
I am so damn glad this week is over. It has been an emotional rollercoaster and I hate weeks like that.
At least I have one offer; I may end up with others by Tuesday or so.
So here we go with another one of my non-patented Pseudo-Random Tens:
To Everyone In The World – Cathy Fink
All The Things You Are – Artie Shaw and his Orchestra
Will There Be Any Stars In My Crown – The Cox Family
The Pub With No Beer – Slim Dusty
Bonaparte’s Retreat – Mac Benford
Down And Out Blues – Scrapper Blackwell
Didn’t Leave Nobody But The Baby – Emmylou Harris, Allison Krause and Gillian Welch
Walk On The Wild Side – Lou Reed
I’d Like To Get To Know You – Spanky And Our Gang
Nashville Cats – Lovin’ Spoonful
One problem with having a lot of classical music — the titles are just too damn long. So here’s a selection from my General (non-classical) Music playlist:
Questions 67 & 68 — Chicago
Steppin’ Out — Joe Jackson
Goodbye Stranger — Supertramp
Get Busy — Sean Paul (also known as the “Cow-shaking” song from the Carl’s Jr. commercials)
West End Girls — Pet Shop Boys
Crazy — Gnarls Barkley
Classical Gas — Mason Williams
Take Me Out — Franz Ferdinand
Can’t Get You Out Of My Head — Kylie Minogue
Glad — Traffic (this is the song that KUFX, the FM station that carries the San Jose Sharks, uses as a lead in to the Sharks broadcasts — at least as much of it as they can; the whole thing is 6 minutes and 55 seconds!)
Made another wasted trip to the East Bay… 🙁
Hopefully will have better success tomorrow; at least I’ve now got a phone number where I can call ahead and see if the person I need to see is actually freakin’ IN THE BUILDING!!!!
Going to bed early tonight — it’s been a long, frustrating 2 days…
Kamakid is great. She’s off on a sleepover with a couple of girls and a boy…a boy she has a crush on. I can’t wait to hear how it turns out.
I’m frazzled. I hurt my knee and have to have surgery. Before I have surgery, I have to move. Lots of changes, but I am psyched to get it all take care of and start fresh and new.
How are you? KamaKid is 12, but going on 20…I’m just at the beginning of teenage hell. Any advice? :>)
I didn’t think his mom would go for it, but all of us agree that well, better face it straight on than pretend it doesn’t exist. My kid has a crush on this boy, but last night I found myself giving her advice on how to attract him. I like him, so that helps. These are cool urban artsy kids with a pretty good sense of maturity and liberal parents who weren’t afraid to talk about sex.
Luckily, I am moving just around the corner, about 3 blocks. I have a friend to help me, but I am ditching most everything I have but my books. I will have a nice, new, clean place to settle into and a new knee and a real break from the past. It will be good, dammnit! ;>)
When I think of what I did, so young, no way in effin hell will I fall for the same stupid lies I gave! LOL
I actually talked to my mom and dad when I got older and came clean. They weren’t stupid, they knew, but believed in giving me a long rope. I don’t know that I can do the same with KamaKid, but I am trying to give the rope and still really maintain communication. I can’t change the decisions she will have to make, but I can educate her on her choices.
Anybody got any cool weekend plans?
I intend to sleep in, at least until 9. Around here that counts as pretty cool.
That sounds good to me. It’s been rough getting back into the early morning routine around here with everybody leaving for school at 7.
Going to be standing down with VFP here in Portland. Might see Amy Goodman at the Bagdhad Theatre.
I’ll be sleeping in Sunday, I hope.
Be safe at the marches and protests this weekend all.
what’s the Baghdad theater?

DJ-is it the VFP music event Saturday you going to?
YES!!! Hey there HomemadeSoup!!! Will you be there??? You’ll find me at the CodePink table.
Not a clue yet-I have to see what my options are (ah the single life…)
That Baghdad Theater looks cool…and the guys who re-did that have done some really neat hotels too, one of which has a public access swimming pool in it (it’s an old school building).
Hi CG,
Briefly de-lurking, check your e-mail, please.
Thanks (I’ll respond shortly). I’m sorry your work week has been so hectic!
Other than a picnic Sunday and co-op work/flirting with leftist dudes shift tonight there’s open space! Maybe I should actually do some house projects & maintenance.
We’re doing weekend clean-up here at Chez Cabin tonight too, so we’re free for fun the rest of the weekend.
Does that mean that you have plans that don’t include SurlyBoy? 😉

It must be the fault of cyber e.coli!!! 😉
I hope it gets fixed soon JD.

Well, shit, of course the trip to the east bay was wasted…you didn’t come see me!!!! ;>)
Hi all. Anyone still up? I’ve finally come down from a tough week, thanks to a couple of glasses of chardonay. :>)
I’m here for a little longer anyway…what’s up? How’s the KamaKid?
Kamakid is great. She’s off on a sleepover with a couple of girls and a boy…a boy she has a crush on. I can’t wait to hear how it turns out.
I’m frazzled. I hurt my knee and have to have surgery. Before I have surgery, I have to move. Lots of changes, but I am psyched to get it all take care of and start fresh and new.
How are you? KamaKid is 12, but going on 20…I’m just at the beginning of teenage hell. Any advice? :>)
Knee surgery and moving don’t sound like a good combination. Do you have plenty of friends to help you move?
Are you moving far?
Advice? I just try to remember what I was doing at that age and be glad CBtE isn’t. 🙂
And I’m thinking sleepovers have changed – a boy? 🙂
The boy has to sleep on the couch.
I didn’t think his mom would go for it, but all of us agree that well, better face it straight on than pretend it doesn’t exist. My kid has a crush on this boy, but last night I found myself giving her advice on how to attract him. I like him, so that helps. When I think of what I did, so young, no way in effin hell will I fall for the same stupid lies I gave! LOL
Sounds like a fresh start all the way around.
Do you ever wonder how you could have thought anyone would fall for some of the fibs you told your parent(s)? I know I do.
I actually talked to my mom and dad when I got older and came clean. They weren’t stupid, they knew, but believed in giving me a long rope. I don’t know that I can do the same with KamaKid, but I am trying to give the rope and still really maintain communication.
